Waddyawanna bet that no one in the administration is going to refer to the Virginia shooting as a racially motivated hate crime? This crime can be laid at the feet of not just the shooter but the poverty pimps like AL Sharlaton Jesse Jackass and the whole black victims movement.

I just learned that a friend of mine was kilt on his motorcycle last night on Alan Parkway. It was a one vehicle accident.
DAMMIT!! He really was a good guy, engaged to be married, just finishing the remodel of his house, promising career and had his life snuffed out way too early.
I am not a happy guy right now.

The future of Govt run healthcare:

The infant’s parents were reportedly told not to worry because they “had another son”Granted, this unspeakable event happened in India, however, that type of callousness towards the most innocent and vulnerable, is evident of the decay of mankind.

My condolences. It’s a shame that such a promising life was snuffed out so soon. I pray for comfort for the family and friends, and the your friend is received into Heaven with great rejoicing!
-
Imma take advantage of the nice weather and do some yard work this morning. As soon as I wake up, that is. It was a nice morning for sleeping, too.

How do we stop the government from taking kids away from loving parents?

Thank you TT.
The guy, Nick, would help a stranger change a flat tire and he always had a smile on his face. He focused on the good in people and was a joy to be around. My life is richer for having known him.
-
Hubby beat me to bed last night. I had stayed up to do some bookkeeping. That meant his snoring would start before I fell asleep – which meant I would have a problem falling asleep. Then, he got up early to get ready for his trip. So, at 3:00 a.m., the smell of bacon and noises in the kitchen wake me up, after only maybe 2 hours of sleep.
Yep, it’s gonna be a long day. I see a nap in my future.

Prayers for you and your friend, Bones.

Amateurs everywhere
[T]he role and authorities of the Ambassador’s chief of staff are not clearly defined, leading to confusion among the staff as to her level of authority, and her role in internal embassy communications.” This has led to problems such as “a misunderstanding on the part of the chief of staff and the Ambassador regarding the responsibilities of an embassy public affairs operation,” and this is turn has led to “confusion and inefficiency among public affairs staff.”
-
If your spouse is keeping you awake due to snoring, these really do work wonders. It doesn’t shut the noise out completely, it just turns the volume way down.
Ask me how I know. . . . -

I have those silicone ear plugs used at the shooting range. Those are the best ones, I’ve found. Unfortunately, I was so tired I forgot where I had put them and was too tired to get up and look.

At the time, however, the tensions in the Neuhaus family were too much; Richard was sent to a boarding school in Nebraska and later to a cousin’s house in Cisco, Texas. The school experience ended in his being “invited” to not return. Once in Texas, he promptly dropped out of high school and became the youngest member of the Texas Chamber of Commerce when, with a small stake from cousin Dorothy, he purchased a gas station.
His cousins, friends, and pastor convinced the wayward but intellectual teen to take a shot at school again, and at 17 the dropout talked his way into Concordia-Austin, a small Lutheran college, where he further developed a penchant for authoritatively talking about anything and everything (nickname: arbiter elegantarium) and resisting authority. He wasn’t expelled this time, however, and he continued his schooling at Concordia Seminary in St. Louis, where he would develop his own increasingly Catholic-tinged interpretation of Lutheranism and explore the worlds of Judaism and civil rights, notably over a summer internship in Detroit that revealed to him the needs of the black community.
After a year of pastoral training in a fairly typical white Chicago Lutheran congregation, in 1961 Neuhaus answered a pastoral call to St. John the Evangelist in Brooklyn, “a racially integrated congregation in a poor district of New York City.” It was a congregation as Catholic-tinged in Lutheran self-understanding as he was. The 25-year-old launched himself into urban ministry and helped create a community of parishioners eager for his brand of integrated Christian witness to the spiritual, bodily, and social needs of their neighborhood. This community not only provided fellowship for the aspiring celibate, but also provided more time for him to begin what he always thought of as his ministry of intellectual work and advocacy for social change.
So he had to come to Texas to be inspired to a great life…
Today, many young conservatives of a religious bent seem inclined to view as a mirage Neuhaus’ mediating position between theocracy and secular domination. Most of them are more than ready to damn an America that is simply and without remainder a product of an unadulterated Enlightenment liberalism. They’ve taken to heart Neuhaus’s more radical and despairing laments over Babylon while rejecting his optimism and balanced assessment of the strengths and weaknesses of American institutions and culture. We need more reflection on Neuhaus’s thought, but we also wait for another—doubtless different—Neuhaus, who loves his flawed country enough to fight for it and expects to meet God as an American.

CBS Ch11, has this info on the death of my friend.

#37 – several likely theories…………..as I recall Allen Pkwy down yonder is as BAD as the similar stretch of Memorial Drive – massive whoop-de-doos in the pavement from subgrade heaving – some of those ‘mini ramps’ are abrupt enough for a rider to get a full foot of ‘air’ under his butt if traveling more than 25 – 30 mph……..
another common mistake is riding way too close to the curbed median – it only takes an instant for that concrete curb to ‘grab’ one’s footpeg which will inexorably suck the bike right in and cause it to flip…………..and then there’s always “dodging a cager that aint looking”

Kenedy County , Texas 116%
Terrell County, Texas 111% (pop. 984)
McMullen County, Texas 109%
Irion County, Texas 107%
Jim Hogg County, Texas 105%
Culberson County, Texas 104%
Presidio County, Texas 102%
Polk County, Texas 101%Most of these are in South and West Texas and are very sparsely populated, except for Polk County. It is in East Texas so it’s not surprising.
There are a couple of counties down in southern Illinois with 190% and 176% head counts. -

Speaker of the House John Boehner stunned audience members Wednesday evening at a Colorado fundraiser by referring to Republican presidential candidate Ted Cruz as a “jackass,” two people in attendance tell The Daily Caller.
At a Steamboat Springs event for GOP Rep. Scott Tipton, the Ohio Republican quipped that he likes how Cruz’s presidential campaign keeps “that jackass” out of Washington, and from telling Boehner how to do his job.
That remark rubbed some attendees the wrong way.

Boehner looks like he gets a head start on it most days. He’s kinda reminds me of Pat Moynihan’s droopy pallor, even with the spray-on tan.
Moynihan never went on the air after about 4 or 5 in the afternoon. He was too far into the tank by then.

OK….
So I join the Facebook Group called “Gear Talk”. Apparently, I made an error. Its about a new language, not gear.

A piece of Charlie Daniel’s mind.
The history of this nation is written in the blood and courage of men who stood in the face of overwhelming odds, politicians, soldiers, statesmen and ordinary citizens who sought to do the right thing regardless of the cost or the consequences.
Well, ladies and gentlemen of the United States Congress, it seems that that particular pen has run out of ink. The courageous politicians that once championed this nation have been replaced, for the most part, by a breed of milksop, politically correct, scared of their own shadow, pushover, pathetic excuses for public servants who are supposed to be representing a constituency of citizens who have to live with the circumstances of their timid folly.
You don’t even have the courage to face down an out of control president, even when he makes a deal with the devil. Don’t you bunch of timid capons even care what kind of world you’re leaving to your children and grandchildren, not to even mention the rest of us? Are you really party partisans before you’re parents and grandparents or even human beings?

Well, I found that fascinating, Sarge. Do none of the 10 functions actually work? I watched you take it apart and show each itty bitty tool, but you didn’t say what was wrong with them. BTW, do you have a pony tail? Not that there is anything wrong with that, I hasten to add.

I’m tellin’ y’all right now, if you ever see me on the news and I’ve gone postal, I guarantee you it’s because some egg-sucking, tiny-brained-having, low-eared, cross-eyed, no-driving, booger-eating moron was texting while driving in front of me.

#61: Yesterday I had to go out to Hempstead. On the way back there was this azzhole what would get just off the rear axle of an 18 wheeler and block anyone from getting around. I managed to get around him and he went over 80 from under 65 to do the same thing to me again. After the 2nd time he came flying up on me again and I hit my brakes hard. He kept his distance after that .
He just wanted to inconvenience whitey to make up for all the racism and such. I have been at stop lights in heavy traffic where the same type of provocative jackal would crank up the rap with all his windows down while we were all stopped and turn it back down when we were rolling.
Deliberately trying to pizz people off is not a great way to promote race relations. -

Alabama-made Blue Bell is due in HOU-Brenham-Austin on Monday.
It’s a damn frenzy. Security and crowd control being set up at Kroger. Purchase limits.
No limits at Walmart.
It’s a freaking event.
Pretty cool. -
There’s a rumor Adee was found face down, passed out in an Alabama Motel 6, surrounded by a couple dozen empty Blue Bell cartons.
So sad. -
Moving back into public works I’d forgotten what prima donna’s plant operators can be. Sweep out the control room, all the lights worked till you guys showed up, that control panel is too low for me to read the numbers. I’d also forgotten what uber pr*cks they work for. They refuse to accept a job until they get the stuff they want and know is out side the contract and free to them. I’ll skip the details but as a lowly sub I have to shut up, just anything to get through the final inspection.
Another is a first for me. Customer bought a grinder, lathe, polisher for rotors driving directional drilling equipment. The two start up techs for the machine are Chinese. Only one has any bit of English. “230 volt” is all I got. First time I hit that language barrier.

“Active shooter” detained at Mississippi State in Starksville, and the situation has been defused. Only a couple of problems with the story – there were no shots fired, and the perp did not have a gun. Other than that, the story is perfectly accurate.

Heh.
The new owners of my water system have had their regional electrician/control guy at my plants this week installing some emergency notification equipment that will call me when any overloads trip. (Oh, joy).
He’s a pretty cool guy and we have hit it off pretty well.
I was watching him today trying to cram/pull two more control wires thru an offset conduit fitting that already had about ten-too-many, among other retrofit headaches.
He kept throwing his wire trash into a bucket he had brought for that purpose.
My comment was, “Wonders never cease. An electrician that actually cleans up after himself.” -

I’ve been trying to keep up with the Bluebell saga. I hope it works out and nobody gets killed in aisle 11.
I will never be able to explain to these people up here why a Texan might commit a capital crime to get hold of an armload of Bluebell ice cream. They do know me and assume the rest of you are as crazy as I am, though.

I am so proud of my students today for how quickly they responded to make our classroom as safe as possible. There were leaders and protectors and comforters and planners. I am so grateful for how calm and level-headed they were during the horrible situation we were in. That being said, I believe that kindness can save lives. You just never know what someone is going through internally. The next time you encounter someone who doesn’t seem emotionally ok, please reach out and show kindness and compassion. You may just turn their anger and sadness into hope.I wish people would just realize how embarrased they should be.

I’m sure if that girl and her cameraman in Roanoke had reached out to the shooter he would have just dropped that pistol and given them a big hug.

I’ve begun to realize these news sites with monthly limits on articles read are running a scam. Yes, I know, I risk appearing naive.
But the #69 link is to Newsweek and I know I haven’t bothered to go to their site more than once or twice in months. They say I’ve used up my monthly alotment of 5 articles. What utter B.S.

Just got back form the gym. Did my first full mile in the pool since my last Oh Crap event. Before I left, I decided to defrost my freezer. The door didn’t get all the way closed one day, and their was a thick layer of ice on some of the coils.
I think the only good thing about having a non-frost free freezer is that it makes me take periodic inventory of what I have. I found a lot of food that’s no longer on my diet, so it’s going to Office Help and her family. I put the food into my washing machine, a covered laundry basket, and my refrigerator, then left. I came back and took out the little bit of remaining ice, dumped my water buckets, wiped it down, and sprayed it with cooking spray to make it easier to clean next time.
Now, I’m waiting for the freezer to cool down again. I’m going to cook myself some dinner while I’m waiting.
Hubby’s not home tonight. I have sole control of the remote and my own schedule. It may sound boring and silly, but being able to defrost the freezer tonight actually gives me a sense of satisfaction.
-
I’m taking inventory as I reload the freezer.
Turns out, I’m the queen of cauliflower. And sausage. And it seems I believe in sausage diversity.
BTW – when you defrost, put all you can in your washing machine. Those ice chunks are falling off and I don’t have to pick ’em up again.
-

I have one like that.
The most important monitor in the building.
The very pale digital screen is in a dark corner.
Eighteen inches off the ground.
After climbing over valves and pipes. But hey, I’m just glad an electrician is willing to come out to the boonies.
Especially at two in the morning.

…digital screen is in a dark corner.
Eighteen inches off the ground.Don’t you understand ? It was late, his wife was ringing his cell phone repeatedly, the beer store was closing and he didn’t have time to walk out to the truck to get more control wire so he just mounted it wherever his cable ran out.
Have a little sympathy, man.

I hear you, and I know. Well, not so much about keeping the house clean and tidy. But after a recent mow and edge of my smallish main lawn in the back yard, I told Hubs it makes me happy to see the grass look so smooth and trim.
I am still working on establishing a second lawn further back. I have some grass growing well back there now, and the rest of it cleared of tree saplings and ruellia, to the point that I can mow the weeds. I did that this morning and it is starting to look suburban again rather than jungle.
Good exercise, too, Maynard. 🙂
