Things are going to be interesting down there at city hall in Sugarland this morning for the person who has the email address…[email protected]

From yesterday : Hwy 249 from the north Sam Houston Toll road headed north used to be an absolute nightmare to take into Tomball at 5pm. Once past Cypress wood or so all the traffic would be diverted to the feeder and it was the death crawl to get to Tomball. Now one does not have to get off and it is clean, smooth, multi lane superslab into and around Tomball. The 99, Grand Parkway exit is not yet opened as 99 is not finished yet, before this time next year it wii or should be.

As I have said many times, I have nothing good to say about the Republican presidential field. This may be unfair. I have not taken a considered look at their platforms, and rejected them as lacking. As we get closer to the primaries, I will be looking more closely, but at this point, as someone who has been alienated from mainstream politics for about a decade, I don’t feel much obligation to look more closely. Every single thing I hear coming out of the mouths of Republican candidates for president is a retread of the things we have heard every four years for as long as I can remember. Let me be clear: I have kind of a bad conscience for not looking more closely, but so far, they look like carbon copies of each other. I could be wrong, but I don’t think I’m wrong.

I believe that the Republicans don’t think that there’s anything wrong economically in this country that giving big business (as distinct from small business) more power, and increasing globalization, will not solve. I believe that Rand Paul possibly excepted, they think that there’s no foreign-policy problem that the application of military force will not solve. I believe that they would be better on “social issues” than Democrats, but I also believe they don’t really care about them, and in any case, those “social issues” are being worked out primarily in the culture, not in politics. Mind you, I think the Democrats would be marginally better on economics and foreign policy, and a lot worse on social issues (especially religious liberty, which is massively important to me). As a conservative, I typically vote Republican in national elections, by default, but my heart is not in it, and has not been since 2004. I am the sort of conservative who longs for a constructive populism.

The idea that Donald Trump — Donald Freaking Trump! — is the embodiment of American populism is, to me, a sign of political decadence. The man is a plutocratic billionaire known only for his flashy swagger, his boundless egotism, his trophy wives, his casinos, and for being a reality TV star. If David Rockefeller were a hip-hop superstar, he would be Donald Trump. He is a demagogue. White Trump supporters who wonder why black people fall for the blatant hucksterism of an Al Sharpton ought to look in the mirror.

The Houston City Council used the wrong language when it put its non-discrimination ordinance for gay and transgender residents on the November election ballot, the Texas Supreme Court ruled Wednesday.

As part of the ongoing legal challenge to the Houston Equal Rights Ordinance, also known as HERO, the council placed the issue on the ballot asking voters whether the city should repeal the ordinance. But the court ruled the city council must reword the language because the vote should be on whether to affirm the ordinance, not repeal it.

That means the ordinance will not take effect unless voters say so.

I‘m not asking for consistency with his previous statements from Trump at this point — but can I at least demand a little familiarity?

This rankles me particularly, because I was giving Trump a Second Look based on the document released over the weekend. All right, I conceded, on this issue, I guess he’s serious about it.

But now he starts talking about the wonders of foreign workers again, and I have to take a Second Look at my Second Look.

Does he bother reading the documents drafted in his name, or what? Is this all just “What’s in Trump’s gut at any particular moment”?

Apparently another PP video has been released. If this is the kind of stuff that the majority of our population is willing to tolerate, and if this is the kind of President who admittedly supports infanticide, it’s no wonder our country is falling apart. If mothers are killing their babies, the most innocent among us, why should we think that marauding teens killing each other is a big deal? I don’t think God is on our (the USA) side any more.

No Child Left Behind was co-authored by Ted Kennedy and George Bush although the critics right and left seem to somehow forget that and passed with huge Democratic support.

Medicaid expansion has been pushed far more by Democrats than Republicans.

And here is a good refresher on TARP:

    3) TARP was bipartisan. More Democrats voted for it than Republicans in both chambers, but the level of bipartisanship in the TARP vote was pretty much unprecedented for such a controversial piece of legislation. In the House, 171 Democrats and 91 Republicans voted for it. In the Senate 40 Democrats, 33 Republicans and 1 Independent voted for it. See the full roll call details here — Senate and House.

    4) In January 2009, at the beginning of the 111th Congress, The Senate voted in favor of releasing the second tranche of TARP money and the House voted against releasing it. Under the language of the law, both chambers would have had to vote against the second tranche for it to be blocked (though, even then the bill to block the funds would have been vetoed by Obama). In the Senate 6 Republicans joined 44 Democrats and 1 Independent in voting to release the second tranche of funds. In the House, the vote on blocking tranche two was passed by 270-155, with only 4 Republicans voting against the bill (i.e. in favor of releasing the additional money).

    5) According to research from MapLight.org, senators and reps. voting in favor of TARP have received 47% more money from interest groups like commercial banks, securities companies and the Chamber of Commerce that supported the bill.

I don’t see how the author of your quote can justify all that he said. He seems to be a semi-low information voter.

I don’t disagree. But you have to admit a minority of Republicans voted for the first round of TARP funding and very few, 6 senators and only 4 House Republicans voting for the second round. That’s pretty significant.

It’s also the main reason the Republicans trounced the elections in 2010. The biggest problem we have is in congressional leadership, not the rank and file. Boehner and McConnell and their lackeys need to be gone.

Andrew Breitbart was critically right about one thing:

Politics are downstream from culture. The cultural and social breakdown has been mainly non-political plus the insane rulings of SCOTUS.
