Finally, a story worth linking to from the Houston Chronicle:
That’s all Pearland West has done in the run to the World Series. It has posted a 14-0 record and outscored opponents 184-20, including a 4-0 mark in Waco with a 41-7 run differential.
Ostrom, who entered the title game without a hit, added an RBI single in the fifth, and Lloyd Richards III tacked on Pearland West’s final run on a wild pitch.
“Carter is a great player. With him hitting a home run, 11 of our 13 players have done so in our 14 games,” Solomon said. “He was one who hadn’t hit one during all-stars, but it was awesome. It was just a matter of time. Everyone on this team can hit one out at any time.”
Despite the lopsided final score, it was a close game through three innings.

โPutinโs return to the presidential seat heralded a rather sudden pivot towards a deep-seated domestic nationalism,โ Moscow-based journalist Anna Arutunyan wrote recently. โYet nationalism as a state policy and identity, initially implemented to shore up Kremlin power, now has the Kremlin itself trapped and threatened by forces that it initially nurtured, but can no longer fully control.โ
and,
The potential for ending sanctions on Iran puts a powerful new player and competitor โthe worldโs third-largest natural-gas producerโin the game. And the Ukraine conflict and Moscowโs aggressive posture toward the West have led EuropeโRussiaโs most important marketโto change its energy policies and seek alternative suppliers. Moreover, rather than looking the other way as the Russian state-owned energy company Gazprom repeatedly flouted the European Union’s antitrust laws, Brussels is now cracking down. If one looks at Gazprom as a barometer of Russiaโs fortunes, one statistic says it all: In 2008, the company had a market value of $360 billion; today it is worth just $55 billion.
and this one hurts,
According to the Pew Research Centerโs new report, only three countries in the world have a net positive opinion of Russia: China, Vietnam, and Ghana. Worldwide, a median of just 30 percent of respondents viewed Russia favorably.

Seventy years ago today, after having dropped two nuclear bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki, the USA and its Allies accepted the surrender of Emperor Hirohito and cessation of hostilities in the Pacific theater.
Three months earlier, the Nazi government of Germany had unconditionally surrendered in Europe.
The war was finally over.

One rainy Friday morning in March 2015, Dr Laila Woc-Colburn saw two patients with neurocysticercosis (a parasitic infection of the brain) and one with Chagas disease, which is transmitted by insects nicknamed ‘kissing bugs’. Having attended medical school in her native Guatemala, she was used to treating these kinds of diseases. But she was not in Guatemala any more โ this was Houston, Texas.
and this,
This suggests that what Woc-Colburn sees in the clinic may be just the leading edge of a gathering crisis. Diseases once associated with ‘elsewhere’ are increasingly being found in the southern states of the USA. Infectious disease physician Peter Hotez was so concerned that he founded a school of tropical medicine at the Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, well within the territory that Hotez argues is one of the world’s ten hotspots for so-called neglected tropical diseases.

Clear and cogent op-ed on why Hillary! and her minions should be prosecuted and serve long prison terms.

Animal rights protesters disrupt pig rasslin’ event.

Katfish, enjoy your trip and stay cool on the road! (How do you stay cool on the road, BTW?)

re: # 9
It’s beyond disturbing to think that there is a class of people who operate completely above the law and without consequences from their actions, but that is unfortunately where we find ourselves as a society now. Lawlessness reigns.
-
#10: They are actually speaking of charging the victims (the pig rasslers) with assault because they repelled the protesters. Why not charge the protesters with assault and criminal tresspassing and generally being a bunch of azzholes?
Here in Texas it is or used to be illegal to disrupt a lawful hunt. I find it really stupid in the extreme to think that a protester will challenge someone knowing that they have a loaded firearm in their hands. . .
IIRC the penalty can amount to jail time for disrupting a hunt. -
This movie will probably cause a bloodbath everywhere it shows.
http://www.thewrap.com/la-police-beef-up-patrols-around-theaters-ahead-of-straight-outta-compton-debut-exclusive/Sort of like the non-riot where an NBA social event closed down the Houston Galleria.

Good news for all you paranoid people out there!
You no longer hafta rely on tinfoil to pertect yer “bathing suit area”.
No word on whether they work on heads, although squack might know since he’s a connoisseur of stylish headwear.

In this Bazaar story linked on Drudge (prolly NSFW), Sharon Stone speaks of her brain aneurysm and her fight to get back to normal, well normal for her.
She is a far left moon bat. That being said, I have nothing but praise for someone who claws their way back from such an event/ -
I first thought that photo was the hobo line at a lamp post in San Francisco until I found my glasses. I guess it’s really a hobo line at a tree.

Its kind of bizarre that she’d tell that story in a Bazaar

Mebbe I’m wrong, but aren’t most of you Couch dudes too old to worry about sperm viability now anyway? Not that you are too old to have children, but too old to keep up with them in your golden years.
//Is this harsh? -

Yeah, I bet that sign will really boost his chances of selling that house! -
Man, she harshed my mellow.

Totally!

Children? Shoot we couldn’t keep up with the younger woman!

You know, WB, I was thinking why would a guy wear these just to protect his jewels and not his brain ? Maybe he should wear a pair on his head also.
But then I remembered my mother’s saying about certain men that went, “He’s got his brains in his britches”. So some men would be fully protected after all.

Eric Erickson over at Red State is still whining about the backlash from exposing himself to be the establishment R that he is. Of course his wounds are all self-inflicted, but he cashed out when he sold Red State to Salem Communications and was planning to leave soon anyway, so why would he care – unless he wants to work someplace other than MSNBS for the rest of his life. I’m disappointed the way he turned out because I thought he was showing promise.

On FOX just now they were floating the idea that themanbearpigcrazedsexpoodlelyingsackogcrapalgoricle may run. Wouldn’t it be a hoot to see Joe and AL on the same debate stage as Hildebeyotch, Fauxahauntus, Bernie the Commie and Kermit the Frog?

Those Pmurt supporters that sent those emails are the scum sucking spawn of Luap Nor days passed. I hope they get what they deserve.
Erik Erickson is an honorable man, undeserving of such attacks.

I see bunsonburner is going out this weekend, Stay off the roads y’all.
-
#33 – I used to think that myself until his actions of the past couple of weeks betrayed his story.
-
It is really hot out there! Then again, it is August in Houston, TX; I wasn’t expecting snow!
-
Not sure why it’s a big deal that a crony capitalist Democrat with a penchant for paying the government to exercise eminent domain was disinvited to a conservative gathering. The surprise to me was that he was invited to the begin with.
-
What about the black guy that he didn’t invite?
-
Hope that Dril-Chem fire west of you, Squawkie, isn’t affecting you and yours.

Just finished my shower – I worked out for the second day in a row. Gently. Felt good.
I was going to go see a movie tonight, but I only go to one theater in Pearland. It’s an older venue, but the ticket prices are cheap. For some reason, I just can’t get excited about seeing any of the options tonight. Guess I’ll stay home and watch TV. I wish our DVD player worked. It seems to be stuck in “eject” mode. I’ve tried rebooting the TV about five times, pushing the little pushie thingie in the DVD slot, and gone online to see if there’s a solution (couldn’t find one). It’s a TV/DVD combo. We have a separate DVD player, but it’s not hooked up and I don’t want to go messing with the cords. Well, maybe later. Maybe.
I have access to Netflix, so between that and broadcast channels, I should be able to find entertainment. I also have shelves of books and some crochet I need to work on.
Right now, I’m just glad to feel clean, turn the air conditioning to a lower temp, and about to go warm up some leftovers. I was invited to go with Hubby and MIL to his friend’s house for BBQ, but I have problems dealing with friend on a good night. Sitting there in the heat and humidity would shorten my temper to a point where I think I might endanger what little relationship we have. So, I’ll stay home with sole control of the remote and enjoy myself this evening.

I didn’t know that Pyro was into square dancing. -
My goodness. Now it is 60% chance of rain on M-T-W !
I hope so.
Maybe these people will back off on all their water usage. -
We were not affected by the fire. The wind took the smoke away from us. My lovely wife is coming home via Cleveland. She is not to happy about that. That is East County and really a strange area to travel through.
-
What about the black guy that he didnโt invite?
He also didn’t invite Santorum, McCain’s girlfriend, or John “Compassionate Conservative” Kasich.
-
Bought the first season of NYPD Blue.
Just for nights like this when there is zero worth watching.
Watched the original pilot a few days ago. Episode 2 tonight.
I forgot how good the show really was. -
Whodda thunk I’d find a pretty darned good GYRO plate in Post Texas?
YUMMY!
-
IF Bernie the Socialist or one of his ilk is the next potus, this could be a reality.
HEADLINE: Drudge, Fox News could be censored under new federal rules, experts warn
The lefty moonbats simply can not allow free speech if that speech shines the light of truth on them.

Found the movie “Hitch”. Perfect for tonight.

Was there a pirate on NYPD Blue?I remember Caruso’s character, and Sipowitz and Simone. But no pirates.
-
Typo. Pilot, not pirate.
-

From that same show: Pink Floyd and some hipsters playing a song that is probably forbidden now.
-
Joan Osborne is on that stage as well. Dunno why she did not make it.
-
The guy Sipowicz, Dennis Franz played two different characters on NYPD blue.
Harry Morgan played 2 different characters on M*A*S*H -
Glad you made it safely, Katfish.
-
#65: Beautiful in form, figure and voice.

I like this song, but probably the first time I ever heard the lyrics. From somebody who speaks no more English than the nurse who takes your bp.
-
Always liked this gent’s tasteful g-solos.

Here ya go, gto: Tie in with Levon and the Hooters.
-
#70 TT: That is hilarious. I guess the lecture was a bit boring.
-
#73, where did you find that? What a great sound.
-
Kind of ironic that the libs that feasted on this in yesteryear are the Soviet style Regressive-Oppressors of today.
-
where did you find that? What a great sound.
I bought the album when it came out. Lots of great musicians. Taj Majal, Joan Osborne, Garth Hudson, Levon Helm, even Cyndi Lauper.
-
Here’s one with Joan (link should be to the entire album).
-
#79 Pretty sweet. I’ve seen her with Jeff Beck on TV somewhere.
-
Walsh plays Levon
I truly love Joe Walsh.
But that’s just wrong.
Sorry. -
Osborne has the sexiest voice.
