Re oc pic and story: I read a story about this one dude that kept a rattle snake and fed it live mice. One mouse the snake never ate and it lived quite some time in the cage with the snake, every other mouse before and after got eaten promptly. That one mouse was the pet of the snake.
    Strange stuff happens out there.

I had a friend with one of those snakes. Kept it in a transformed TV cabinet (you know, from a time years ago when TV’s were big contraptions and not flat screens?). Then one day, a mouse fought back. That snake never touched that mouse again.

    We nicknamed him “Mighty Mouse”.

Good morning Hamsters. We have to wait until early tomorrow morning for the tropical whatever to arrive, but there likely will be some showers today. Suddenly it’s gotten cloudy and rather dark after a beautiful sunny morning thus far. Shower just started that I hope will pass quickly.

We have a small gathering (7) of crows in the back yard and playing the drums on the garden room roof while they squabble over cookies I threw out in the back yard yesterday morning. They were sugar free chocolate chip from HEB, bite size for a person and the most tasteless, blah thing with only a few small chips that were equally tasteless. Guess they marinated in the dew over night, and this morning the crows found them. They are fighting over them in the yard and on the roof. No accounting for taste I guess.

I keep thinking “Animal Farm” as I read this story about water usage in California:

People โ€œshould not be forced to live on property with brown lawns, golf on brown courses or apologize for wanting their gardens to be beautiful,โ€ Yuhas fumed recently on social media. โ€œWe pay significant property taxes based on where we live,โ€ he added in an interview. โ€œAnd, no, weโ€™re not all equal when it comes to water.โ€

    /snip

โ€œCalifornia used to be the land of opportunity and freedom,โ€ Barbre said. โ€œItโ€™s slowly becoming the land of one group telling everybody else how they think everybody should live their lives.โ€

    Pot, meet kettle.

โ€œIโ€™m a conservative, so this is strange, but I defend Barbra Streisandโ€™s right to have a green lawn,โ€ said Yuhas, who splits his time between Rancho Santa Fe and Los Angeles. โ€œWhen we bought, we didnโ€™t plan on getting a place that looks like weโ€™re living in an African savanna.โ€

So don’t move to a place that is, essentially, a desert.

Funny how the rules for everyone else doesn’t apply when it hits close to home.

  19. Bonecrusher Avatar
    Bonecrusher

Aren’t most of Califorincatia’s water problems self inflicted, by not installing more dams, tearing down other dams, and standing firmly against nuke power which would be ideal for massive desalination plants to make potable water from sea water? When will the people of the granola state finally recognize cause and effect?

  20. Tedtam Avatar

Another story of CPS run amok. This baby is finally thriving – despite CPS but is going to be adopted out anyway, instead of going home to a loving mother and father? WHYYYYYYY!

    Save Baby Bella

  21. El Gordo Avatar

#21 – That story does not pass the sniff test. While CPS probably has no right to be involved, the idea that the doctors and the hospitals are conspiring against this poor lady just doesn’t make sense. I’m as big a skeptic of CPS as anyone could be, but I just think there are some missing components to this story as presented.

  22. Bonecrusher Avatar
    Bonecrusher

#21: Those up there seem to think that parents are only there to produce the baby, after that the baby is the state’s responsibility. It is a power play that really needs to end in a huge lawsuit, naming the party’s responsible, the stupid Dr. who refused to listen to the parents, the DFC or whatever that agency is named, the individual at that agency and the supervisor jointly and severally liable.
This sort of thing is just the beginning and I expect it will get worse.

  23. Tedtam Avatar

    #22 El Gordo

This actually happens. I know personally of a story where CPS tried to take a baby from a loving home when there was a valid medical reason for the baby’s condition. I’ve heard via a reliable source of at least two other similar cases. And that’s just from what I’ve heard going on in Texas.

CPS has incredible power, and those people think they know better than the parents how to care for their children.

Office Help and I were just discussing the upcoming panic over the weather. “Save your milk jugs!” I said. “There’s no need to rush to the store for bottled water. Just fill ’em up from your tap.”

“Wow, what a great idea,” she says. They go through 2 gallons of milk a day at their house full of people. Plenty of water storage capacity.

I still have “hurricane food” set aside from the last event. Matches, candles, lights, etc., – no need to panic. I never understood the last minute herd mentality towards the grocery store shelves.

But it was not just lower-than-expected turnout that hurt Van de Putte, according to her backers. She was up against a woman who had galvanized the city’s social conservatives through her opposition to a nondiscrimination ordinance in 2013, and the city’s fiscal conservatives through her decision to effectively kill a plan to build a streetcar system downtown.

IOW, she appealed to Socially Conservative Black Protestant & Hispanic Catholic Democrats, as well as Fiscally Conservative White Folks.

  50. El Gordo Avatar

I’m thinking that if we (conservatives, Republicans, sane people) just allowed these freaks of nature called Democrats to just run wild with their social programs, their race and grievance mongering, their PC bull stuff, etc. and ignored them; focusing instead on the real issues facing us today – economic, financial, military security, and the like, that they (the Dems) would eventually run out of steam and turn on each other. Why do we allow the Dems to bait us into these traps rather than just ignoring them all together. That’s called “passive aggressive” and there is nothing that PO’s an agitator more than being ignored – they eventually have to duct tape their heads to keep them from exploding, and there is nothing more fun than watching a liberal’s head explode.

  51. El Gordo Avatar

Excuse me, but did I hear that the county and the city are pulling out all the stops for weather, and this low pressure area has not even reached TD status, much less tropical store or hurricane or the like. #63, GJT. Most here probably remember when hurricanes only had female names. ‘Who ever heard of a himmicane’ was the joke. Now they have opened up a whole new can of worms. What gender, transgender, politically correct freak is going to sue because having a storm’s name is construed to offend them. This could be a fun contest. How would the media rate a storm based on gender, the potentially affected, what Republican stone walling politicians contributing to global warming caused this to happen, did Boehner cry and wet himself enough to fill California reservoirs, etc. Replace storm names with acronyms. Instead of I think this one might be called Bill try CRHID. Caused by Republicans Hope Illegals Drown.
