I think the local news whores have been interviewing the same old guy at Banana Bend every flood event since I moved to Houston in 1981. He talks about how turrible the flood is this time, they ask him if he’s ready to move to higher ground, and he always responds “Hell No! I love the river!”
I’ve lost so much confidence in our public officials that I would go out of my way to defy their orders. And the media hype that accompanies (or in many cases leads) these public announcements and pronouncements just makes it worse. It had been building for years but seemed to peak when Rita was out there, resulting in the absence… Read more »

About bobo, he pops up on my page “Over Yonder” once in a while and MOST of the time is screaming, crying and moaning about how the stupid Republicans/conservatives are screwing up Texas and he’s just glad he is in Colorado, which BTW, is being taken over by fruits and nuts like him. Lately his rants are about gays mostly… Read more »

#29 Tedtam, thoughts and prayers for the family, how awful. I always have a very hard time with this kind of news,… 🙁
I got to see a fantastic light show last night as the storm moved through. My patio glass doors provide a wide view, and I’m located on elevated terrain, so at night I can see for miles. So as the storm moved through, I just turned off all the lights and sat on a chair staring out at the constant… Read more »
I got some bad news via Lovely Daughter this morning.
A very good friend of theirs has passed away. He leaves 3 children under five years of age and a wife. Please pray for the peaceful repose of his soul and peace and comfort for the family.
Thank you.

back 50 years to the old Scuppernong vine here at the old home place
Is that vine still alive and producing?
I never have been much of a wine drinker as it usually no longer tastes like a grape. I really like grapes, just like they are.

I stopped by the Perdido Vineyards on the way over here yesterday, I’ve driven by it a thousand times, just never stopped. They’re the first vineyard established in Alabama, (1979) since prohibition. They only use Muscadine grapes and I got a bottle of dry red (Ecor Rouge) and a sweet red, (Marengo) I usually don’t like a sweet wine but… Read more »

According to Merriam-Webster online dictionary, the meanings of evacuate are:
So my use of the word in a non-medical context seems perfectly legit. Maybe you’ve had too many enemas lately?
Sarge, you’ve mentioned a lovenest but does that mean you moved? I saw your pix on FB but not clear if the flooding threatened you or not.

Nope, they were visitors to Flarda. From up north.
