American Drillers Are Getting Gut-Punched by Low Oil Prices — but a New Report Says They Can Take It.

How low can oil prices go before American drillers are forced out of business?
A lot lower, one firm is saying.
While Morgan Stanley analysts have estimated that most shale oil plays need oil prices to be above $75 per barrel for extraction to be profitable — meaning current low oil prices could kill the American shale oil boom — Business Insider reported Monday that Goldman Sachs has a very different outlook.
According to Goldman’s analysis, prices would need to hit $40 per barrel for six months in order to seriously cripple American industry because companies have taken precautionary measures.
Drillers won’t expand into new territory, but their existing fields should keep going, Goldman’s analysis claimed:
The more credit intensive companies are already in maintenance mode where cash is being reserved for maintaining fields only. We now expect US supply growth to slow to 400,000 barrels per day, year on year by the 4th quarter of 2015.

Additionally, while these two “establishment” Republicans square off, a third, the moderate Mr. Christie, seems likely to join the fray.

Imagine that, conservatives? A three-way battle for the soul of the [establishment] GOP? For its money, consultants and votes?

    Good news, we think.

Because at the same time the establishment wing of the GOP if flying into disarray, the right’s presidential candidates appear more serious, and more organized, than they have been in decades. Sens. Ted Cruz, Rand Paul and, yes, Marco Rubio, aren’t just selling books and going on cable– they’re actually current and elected politicians hurriedly laying the necessary foundations for a serious presidential run, working grassroots activists, party leaders, pastors, donors.

Your evaluation of the cop is correct, but what about the level of intelligence of the gun store employee ?

We can all agree the LEO should have double-checked the pistol to see if it was loaded, but why shouldn’t the primary and prior responsibility reside with the employee and store owner ?

Most of the commenters agreed the store should shoulder a significant share of the blame.

    Dropped into the ole mail-box;
    The Haircut

A teenage boy had just passed his driving test and inquired of his father as to when they could discuss his use of the car. His father said he’d make a deal with his son, “You bring your grades up from a C to a B average, study your Bible a little, and get your hair cut. Then we’ll talk about the car.”

The boy thought about that for a moment, decided he’d settle for the offer, and they agreed on it. After about six weeks his father said, “Son, you’ve brought your grades up
and I’ve observed that you have been studying your Bible, but I’m disappointed you haven’t had your hair cut.”The boy said, “You know, Dad, I’ve been thinking about that, and I’ve
noticed in my studies of the Bible that Samson had long hair, John the Baptist had long hair, Moses had long hair, and there’s even strong evidence that Jesus had long hair.”

(You’re going to love the Dad’s reply!)

“Did you also notice they all walked everywhere they went?”

This is truly a must read on our blundering through the Iraq/Afghanistan campaigns.

The Chinese sincerely believe America purposely created ISIS in order to destabilize the Middle East. To an outside observer fairly ignorant of Yankee naivete and international ineptness, this is understandable.

    David P. Goldman at PJMedia

The story already has been told in depth by Lt.-Gen. (ret.) Daniel Bolger, whose memoir Why We Lost appeared last year. I reviewed it in Asia Times Online after observing that not one of the mainstream media reviews mentioned the most important assertions in Gen. Bolger’s excellent book: First, that American success in imposing majority rule on Iraq in 2006 set in motion the Sunni insurgency, and second, that America’s sponsorship of the Sunnis in 2007-2008 (the “Sunni Awakening” built with American funds as part of the “surge”) made the insurgency intractable.

Put David Goldman on the list of those unimpressed with David Petraeus.

“That’s right, that’s exactly right,” laughs Lynch in reply.”Having armed all sides of the conflict and kept them apart by the threat of arms,” I wrote in a 2010 essay on Asia Times Online, titled “Gen Petraeus’ Thirty Years’ War”, “the United States now expects to depart leaving in place governments of national reconciliation that will persuade well-armed and well-organized militias to play by the rules. It is perhaps the silliest thing an imperial power ever has done. The British played at divide and conquer, whereas the Americans propose to divide and disappear. At some point the whole sorry structure will collapse, and no-one knows it better than Petraeus.”

Nope, they certainly shouldn’t have had a loaded gun under the counter but the PRIMARY responsibility for the LEO’s safety remains with him, why, because it’s his finger! I see you clear a weapon and hand it to me, the FIRST thing that I’m going to do is “clear the weapon” because as KatFish says it’s ALWAYS assumed loaded. MHO

  14. Katfish Avatar

#10 & #13 – Brother I’m only observing – and I’m with SD – IMHO there is only a modicum of ‘shared responsibility’………..IME I have NEVER seen weapons in a display case that were loaded – that is truly bizarre (and unacceptable IMHO)

If anyone hands ME a weapon and doesn’t obviously show it CLEAR before the hand off – that’s the VERY FIRST thing I’d do!

    I put fault at 50-50.

The first thing a person should do when handing off a gun is identify whether the weapon is loaded or not. The receiving person should have assumed the weapon is loaded till he checked for himself. BOTH are at fault here.

There is a reasonable expectation in a gun store that the weapon is unloaded when it is handed to you. So I think the cop has a good chance of winning a lawsuit. I think everyone is fortunate that the gun store employee/owner did not get shot,

Holy crap could you see the flap if the cop shot the guy behind the counter?

His parents, Rodney and Joan Pistorius, were told that he was as good as not there, a vegetable. The hospital told them to take him home and keep him comfortable until he died.

But he didn’t die. “Martin just kept going, just kept going,” his mother says.

His father would get up at 5 o’clock in the morning, get him dressed, load him in the car, take him to the special care center where he’d leave him.

“Eight hours later, I’d pick him up, bathe him, feed him, put him in bed, set my alarm for two hours so that I’d wake up to turn him so that he didn’t get bedsores,” Rodney says.

That was their lives, for 12 years.

He’s alive today and remembers most everything from 10 of those years. And we have been told again and again these people in a “vegetative state” might as well be dead – they know, feel, see, hear nothing.

Fortunately, I have no snow on the ground here.

Although, in light of the new fatwa declaring snowmen to be anti-Islamic and the murder of more than a dozen innocent people in France, I nominate Texanadian to make a large, fat snowman that looks just like Muhammad. A nice kefiyyeh for the head and a bomb or two in the hand will be great. I think a nice touch would be a little snowgirl beside him to represent his 9 year old wife.

I had an uncle on my father’s side of the family that “lived” his last years in one of those semi vegetative states. He was cared for during this time by the family, but it was hardly a life that one would envy.

My father was hurt the most by the experience. He could not imagine living his last days that way and made it clear to me and his physician that no heroic efforts were to be taken if he had a similar stroke.

Ironically, I was out of the country when it did happen and another well intended relative interceded as the physician was allowing nature to take its course. The hapless soul started screaming the “L” word (Lawyer) and suddenly the stops were pulled out and my father lived another six months in a state not of his wishing.

These are decisions that should be made by individuals in concert with close relatives and the counsel of physicians.

The state has no business in this decision loop, unless there is foul play.

These are decisions that should be made by individuals in concert with close relatives and the counsel of physicians.

And those wishes can be legally listed on a DNR order. Do Not Resuscitate order. CAN BE WRITTEN UP BY YOUR HOSPITAL AND/or PHYSICIAN.

My Mom and Dad have/had one. I have one. This thing was invaluable to us when my Dad passed away. It removed all questions about what to do. It hurt like hell to watch my Dad die, he was given a pain killer, but it was what he wished and discussed with us. We gave the paramedics the DNR form, they transported my Dad and that was that.

I am a firm believer that folks should specify in advance their wishes to remove that awful burden from their family. My folks had already paid for their funeral arrangements years ago. they only thing my Mom was saddled with was deciding what was inscribed on the headstone. Because they had pre-payed btw they saved some $5000. I am a firm believer in prepaid prearranged funerals. My lovely wife knows if i go first she is to have me cremated, no services and she can do what she wants with the ashes. I figure she will pour em on the floor and vac em up.

Oh man, I’m tard. I am temporarily having to do both our chores. I think it’s been 12-15 years since I last took out the trash. David gets up early and does that on trash morning. I don’t get up early so I figured I better fill up the bins and roll them to the curb tonight. Also I’ve trekked upstairs 6-7 more times since I last posted (whined?) but truth is, coming downstairs is much harder on my store-bought knees. I haven’t put much of my exercise time into stair climbing.

Tedtam, I have not even suggested moving downstairs to him. About the only times I’ve seen him out of bed today, he’s in the upstairs computer room, checking on email. A complication is that one of our 2 old frail cats lives upstairs and only likes him. She has let me feed her today, but was only glad to see the food — not me. 🙁 I have one more trip to make upstairs, to give her the bedtime meal. Because of her frailty, she is fed 4 big meals a day to keep her from withering away. That’s nowhere near as extreme as the frail girl who lives downstairs with me. She gets unlimited food, by finding me and giving me a certain wistful look. I don’t count them, but I think she eats 10-12 small helpings of soft pates every day.

Yes, this is my boring life!!
