U.S. Seen as Biggest Oil Producer After Overtaking Saudi Arabia.

The U.S. will remain the world’s biggest oil producer this year after overtaking Saudi Arabia and Russia as extraction of energy from shale rock spurs the nation’s economic recovery, Bank of America Corp. said.
U.S. production of crude oil, along with liquids separated from natural gas, surpassed all other countries this year with daily output exceeding 11 million barrels in the first quarter, the bank said in a report today. The country became the world’s largest natural gas producer in 2010. The International Energy Agency said in June that the U.S. was the biggest producer of oil and natural gas liquids.
“The U.S. increase in supply is a very meaningful chunk of oil,” Francisco Blanch, the bank’s head of commodities research, said by phone from New York. “The shale boom is playing a key role in the U.S. recovery. If the U.S. didn’t have this energy supply, prices at the pump would be completely unaffordable.”
Oil extraction is soaring at shale formations in Texas and North Dakota as companies split rocks using high-pressure liquid, a process known as hydraulic fracturing, or fracking. The surge in supply combined with restrictions on exporting crude is curbing the price of West Texas Intermediate, America’s oil benchmark. The U.S., the world’s largest oil consumer, still imported an average of 7.5 million barrels a day of crude in April, according to the Department of Energy’s statistical arm.

Oh man, contrast that to the current H1-B mess in the USA, where foreign workers are preferred, to the point that is part of why Tom Donohue of the CoC and others are paying big bucks for Congress to blow the lid off immigration caps.

Alright, all you Linux and Tor users face the wall and put your hands over your head. These officers will escort you to jail.

The Linux Journal, a Linux user community website, has been flagged as an “extremist forum” by the United States’ National Security Agency (NSA), while its users have been flagged as “extremists” under the agency’s XKeyscore program, according to leaked source code.
The source code, which was published this week by German public broadcaster, ARD, also identified at least two German Tor Directory Authority servers — one in Berlin, the other in Nuremberg — as being under surveillance by the NSA.
The Tor Project is an independent, open-source anonymous software and browsing network that directs traffic through its free, worldwide, volunteer network to conceal users’ locations and usage from surveillance.

I had the BEST weekend with Lovely Daughter and Aggie Beau! I got to hold, tickle, and play with Sunshine, and I played Scattergories with Lovely and AB. (Hubby doesn’t play games, and I grew up with them, so this is a real treat for me!) Lovely and I went shopping with Sunshine, who charmed everyone she met and stole a few hearts along the way. She blew raspberries on my arm when she was fighting going down for her nap, and it was all I could do not to laugh out loud, which would have delayed the nap time considerably. I was really touched by their consideration for my diet restrictions, and their attempts to help keep me on track. That was very thoughtful. They even asked me about some options for Sunshine’s birthday celebration, so I’ll have something on my diet that I can eat when we celebrate her first birthday.
    Missing them already.

We’re starting to see some unintended consequences of the mess on the border. Not only are people across the country becoming more aware due to the humanitarian element of having little kids showing up in massive numbers, but there is a growing groundswell of antipathy toward H-1B visas (the kind the tech companies use to bring in lower-cost tech workers).

    Hand cannons.

In the links below that story is this travesty:
It purports to be a list of “The Best WW2 movies”, but it was obviously a list made by someone who doesn’t watch a lot of WW2 movies. It kinda pizzes me off, so you’re gonna get a long post.
Let us carefully examine this list. I’m doing this so you don’t have to.
#12: Red Tails The fact that this movie made this list, as well as a couple of others below is evidence that not only the the guy making the list not watch a lot of WW2 movies, he smoked crack while watching the ones he did watch.
#11 In Harms Way It pains me greatly to say that this movie does not belong anywhere near this list because its a John Wayne WW2 movie, but this turd is best described as a soap opera with guns ‘n splosions—a concept which sounds good until you see it on the screen
#10 The Thin Red Line Somewhere in this 171 minute lobotomy is a good 60 minute WW2 action film. I’ve often wanted to edit out the bad parts, but that would require me to watch the entire film again and I think doing so will affect my gonads in a negative manner.
#9 The Battle Of The Bulge C’mon man, you’re killing me here. I’l have to resort to the time tested Ambrose Bierce quote, adapted for the screen: “There is entirely too much time between the opening and closing credits of this movie.”
#8 Letters From Iwo Jima The only movie directed by Clint Eastwood taht I refuse to watch. Politically correct trash that attempts to put the perpetrators of the Rape of Nanking, Pearl Harbor, the Bataan Death March, “comfort women”, biological warfare experiments on POW’s, and the inventors of kamikaze and sepuku in a sympathetic light.
#7 The Bridge Over The River Kwai Now we’re getting somewhere, although it lacks sometimes in historical accuracy, this movie is both great cinema and a good action movie that does accurately depict the Japanese, but does manage to get us to feel a bit sorry for them. Clint should have studied this one a bit more.
#6 Schindler’s List Should be higher on the list. A movie that combines great cinema with accurate history. This movie almost makes me forgive Steven Spielberg’s donations to Liberal Democrats. I said almost.
#5 From Here To Eternity Soap opera with guns ‘n splosions done right. The movie you want to show your wife or girlfriend that WW2 movies aren’t all bad. Its depiction of Army life in the days before Pearl Harbor, particularly its sympathetic portrayal of the Enlisted Man as the Officer/Enlisted dynamic is excellent
#4 Saving Private Ryan Should be #1
#3 The Dirty Dozen OK–yah–it does belong on the list but #3? WTF? Its an action movie that is a rip roaring good time.
#2 The Longest Day A movie that should be remade today with the same script, but modern special effects that accurately portrays WW2 combat. The only problem with that would be the screams from the pantywaists out there who will say that it will make our children go on killing sprees instead of stand in awe of the Heroism and sacrifice of the Grandfathers and Great Grandfathers.
#1 The Great Escape. Ok, yah—it belongs on the list, but somewhere between Saving Private Ryan and The Dirty Dozen.
OK, so what would I replace thos first five turkeys with? That’s easy.
Tora Tora Tora A lot of criticism went its way due to a lot of no-name (at the time) and veteran character actors filling what would normally be starring roles, and a slow build up to the climax—but with the attack on Pearl Harbor that’s how it should be. We were asleep and got woke up hard.
Run Silent, Run Deep How that hockey puck that wrote the original list manage to put 12 WW2 movies together with one—ONE–submarine movie is beyond me.
Battleground Watch this movie and you won’t need to watch Battle of The Bulge. A movie that loves the WW2 soldier.
Kelly’s Heroes Another rip roaring WW2 adventure movie. I’d replace The Dirty Dozen with this one if I had to, but both should be on the list.
They Were Expendable The special effects in the opening sequences of this movie rival those we see today—especially when one considers that they were using real ordnance for a lot of it.
The War Lover Another soap opera, but this one with B17s and Steve McQueen. Its on the list because its an airplane movie and the cinematic version of 12 O’clock High kinda sucks.
    Honorable mentions:
Hell Is For Heroes Steve McQueen again. The only thing that spoils this is the schtick from Bob Newhart.
Sands of Iwo Jima Yah. You’re gonna want to put this in the place of one of mine.

BBC admonished for giving climate change deniers equal air time.

The report found the BBC remains prone to “over-rigid application of editorial guidelines on impartiality” that resulted in the news service giving “undue attention to marginal opinion.” The author of the report, Steve Jones, emeritus professor of Genetics at University College London, cited the existence of manmade climate change as an example.
Since the review began in 2010, nearly 200 BBC senior staff were sent to workshops to learn what it means to cover science impartially. Andrew Miller, chairman of Parliament’s science and technology select committee, said in a statement: “The key point the workshops tried to impart is that impartiality in science coverage does not simply lie in reflecting a wide range of views, which may result in a ‘false balance.’ More crucially it depends on the varying degree of prominence such views should be given. In this respect, editorial decisions should be guided by where the scientific consensus might be found on any given topic, if it can in fact be determined.”
The Trust cautioned this does not mean critical opinion should be excluded: “The BBC has a duty to reflect the weight of scientific agreement but it should also reflect the existence of critical views appropriately. Audiences should be able to understand from the context and clarity of the BBC’s output what weight to give to critical voices.”
The BBC was accused in April of misleading viewers about climate change by giving too much air time to unqualified sceptics. A damning parliamentary report singled out the BBC’s “Radio 4 Today” and “World at One” programs. “Given the high level of trust the public has in its coverage, it is disappointing that the BBC does not ensure all of its programmes and presenters reflect the actual state of climate science in its output,” the report said, according to the Guardian. “The Today programme and other BBC News teams continue to make mistakes in their coverage of climate science by giving opinions and scientific fact the same weight.”

Another movie that suffered from the tendency of studio heads of the 1960’s-70’s to shy away from an accurate depiction of combat. In the book, Luke Skywalker has a very psyche shattering experience during the North Africa invasion that sets the tone for his behavior for the rest of the movie: one of the enemy coming towards him has his head blown off and it rolls right up to him and stares at him with those dead, vacant eyes as he’s taking cover on the beach. For the rest of the war, he’s just no good in combat. Without that scene being filmed in that manner, he just comes off looking like a weak wussy scared by loud noises.

Even the right man in the presidency is not going to right this ship anytime soon. I do not think we have seen even the tip of the iceberg of harm that 8 years of Obama has brought on this country. At best it is going to take a a generation to turn this boat around and i ain’t got that much hope.

After 18 years, is there any credibility in this tale of obstruction in the investigation of the TWA 800 crash in 1996?

I’m not sure what you mean, but if you are asking whether the FAA investigation was fraudulent, mishandled and covered up ?
And should the investigation be reopened ?
I would answer both questions with an emphatic yes.

Leave it to Madonna to turn jury duty into a celebrity photo op.
Whatever her motivations, if she inspires other citizens to fulfill their duty, then so be it.

Then question #2: Is that likely to happen, or has too much time elapsed?

I don’t know. There are a lot of very determined people involved in this effort. I really hope they succeed.

    This is hilarious.
The enviroweenies are screaming now because all the pot farms in California are consuming an alarming amount of water in a state where water is as rare as gold.
They have special police all over the state now whose only job is issue tickets and investigate people for washing cars or watering plants. Forget trying to water your grass.

OK, so we always keep at least a portion of the gas right-of-way cut behind the house so we can use it for an extra part of our yard for our get togethers. One of our neighbor kids sometimes cuts our grass for extra money and he cornered the wife and asked her if he could cut the right-of way because he needed money to fix his skate board, so for $25 bucks he and his two friends came over with two mowers and cut the grass. Yannao’ a few years ago this wouldn’t be a story BUT today it is so hard to get anyone, let alone a kid, to do anything. Anyway it did my heart good and these young men will always fend for themselves, they’ll not need welfare or a “Lone Star Card” …….Did I tell y’a that life is good? 😀
