GLBQTJFKIRSLBJIBMM&MEIEIO Pride

It’s late June.
We all know what that means.

It’s time for an oppressed segment of our population to flood out into the local streets to express their pride in being who/what they are, even if one of them happens to be the first elected leader of a major American city to wear comfortable shoes openly in public.
By running around in public dressed in a manner that would have gotten them arrested a few short years ago. What this has to do with pride in oneself escapes me, but it is apparently essential to this expression.

Essential to the “celebration” is showing fearlessness in couture choices.

Sassy!
There are those among the community who lament the current celebratory activities as simply an excuse for the local youths to get inebriated and/or baked to excess, whether they happened to be members of the “community” or not.

After all of these years, I am still clean and sober and I am here to report that last night’s parade was perhaps the most embarrassing and angriest night of my life as a gay person. Some 300,000 people thronged the streets of lower Westheimer Saturday night. Most were young straight and gay kids who were all pretty much messed up on drugs and/or alcohol like we used to be. Some things never change.

Drama Queen.

I find it outrageous that Bud Light was well represented at the front of the parade. Hooray for Bud Light, turning millions of gay people into alcoholics one light beer at a time. And I was outraged at the other corporate floats as well: Shell, BP, Chase, JP Morgan. Where is the community outrage? Shell and BP are apparently very gay friendly and had their gay minions marching with their floats. Have we lost our minds and forgotten that these two companies are destroying the planet?

You should all just giddyup on down there.

Planes flying into Houston are burning less fuel and making less noise than before, thanks to an FAA project implemented this month. Instead of the conventional descent—leveling out between drops in altitude—pilots will follow a steady path to the ground with the engine throttle near idle.
The shift, along with changes that will ease air congestion around Houston, is part of NextGen, the FAA’s $37 billion program to modernize how American airspace is managed by 2030.
Usually, planes approaching an airport drop altitude in steps, cranking up the engines to level out in between. That makes it easier for pilots to control descents and for air traffic controllers to keep track of everyone and manage spacing between planes. Crews check in with the ground at each interval, making sure they’re clear to drop a few thousand more feet. It’s a safe but inefficient way to get lots of planes on the ground

Texpat’s ominous #1 seems to say the planes are using less fuel but descending less safely. OMG, we’re doomed! Well, I’m not, I’m nowhere close to an airport.

Re: FAA changes to flight approach
Hubby and I went to a meeting last week to hear about the proposed changes at Hobby Airport. They’re realigning some runways to meet new standards, adding parking, etc., to get it ready for international flights. There’s been concerns in the surrounding neighborhood over the changes – aircraft noise, increased traffic, flooding, etc.
The airport director told us about the new flight approach method, leaving behind the leveling out points. It’s also supposed to reduce aircraft noise in surrounding homes. This also reduces the noise footprint, which also means the FAA or airport authorities don’t have to buy out as many of the surrounding parcels as they might otherwise take. they can’t have any residential homes in areas over 70 decibel levels. They were originally going to buy one of our rental homes, but they have an option where they may not have to do that.
Oh, and the takeoffs are going to be a “straight up and out” method also.

Good windy morning Hamsters. Pleasant 75 at 6 is long gone, but the breeze keeps getting stronger, and the possibility of a vigorous popup storm is still in order according to the NWS site. Scattered of course and totally unpredictable. It’s summer in SE Texas so one must expect that unless there’s something nasty marauding in the Gulf or heading toward the Gulf.
Regarding the opening posting for today. Gad, what happened to consenting adults in private? Freak show on parade. Rather freaky lament on the Drama Queen’s blog but can agree with him on why have this event in summer?

My husband was heading out and asked if I had checked the forecast because it looked so cloudy. I said had checked only for the morning, since I didn’t otherwise expect to be out. He left but could not have completed the long backout from garage to street before the absolute bottom fell out. Heaviest rain I’ve seen for awhile.
I mowed the small back lawn this morning and enjoyed the exercise. I need to buy another Black & Decker Grass Hog line trimmer. The one I got a year ago just suddenly stopped working several months back. Pressing the On button doesn’t even make a noise.

Čabrinović swallowed his cyanide pill and jumped into the Miljacka river. Čabrinović’s suicide attempt failed, as the cyanide only induced vomiting, and the Miljacka was only 13 cm deep due to the hot, dry summer.[65] Police dragged Čabrinović out of the river, and he was severely beaten by the crowd before being taken into custody.

Good morning Hamsters. Reasonably tolerable 76 to start off, partly cloudy, and the breeze is just getting energized. June is almost gone, July 4th is almost upon us, and delightfully there are more flags displayed around our area in advance of the holiday. Perhaps some of those who have slept through the last 6 years are finally snapping to what’s been going on as it finally dawns on them that light at the end of the tunnel is a train roaring toward them, and it has Obama’s grinning face on it.

As one commenter pointed out, the inhabitants of a vet cemetery are not bothered by the presence of a giant whipping wind turbine. Seems like families that came to pay their respects would have complained before now though. But as another pointed out, the media would not be inclined to cover such a complaint.

Although the tramp stamp on the back of the waist is (as far as I know) sort of reserved for female tattooines, there is other territory where I’ve seen ’em on wimmins. On the clavicle is sort of tacky, especially if the tat is large enough to be peeking out above the neckline of a garment. If it’s a tiny butterfly, that’s one thing. A larger design, only partially revealed, inevitably makes you wonder how far it goes. I’ve also seen large tattoos on some wimmins’ calves. Gruesome.

Nice to see a slap at CNN’s uber sensitivities toward the enemy included in the script regarding the good guys shooting the goatherds who stumbled upon them or letting them go lest they tell the Taliban where they were. Rules of Engagement killed them ’cause they let the goatherds go, and those immediately told the Taliban upon returning to their village. The dominoes fell from there.

Like the fella says, in Italy for 30 years under the Borgias they had warfare, terror, murder, and bloodshed, but they produced Michelangelo, Leonardo da Vinci, and the Renaissance.
