A few years ago, Bonnie Prince Barry and his Stormtroopers at the EPA declared war on Texas:

The necessary precondition for Texas’s unique economic success – a beacon in a deep recession – is energy. And the EPA is closing in for the kill.
This would be one thing if Texas were an outlier among the 50 states in terms of dirty air or an otherwise demonstrably imperiled environment. But the truth is closer to the opposite: the air in Texas has been getting cleaner; in the urban areas, much cleaner. And in spite of being by far the largest electric power producer of the 50 states, and heavily reliant on coal, Texas has been steadily reducing its emissions of the EPA’s least-favored compounds from coal combustion (e.g., sulfur dioxide and nitrous oxide). Its emissions of NOx and SO2 are substantially lower than the national average; Texas is ranked the 11th lowest in NOx emissions (.098 lb/mmBtu in 2009, versus a national average of .159 lb/mmBtu), and 24th in SO2 (.309 lb/mmBtu in 2009, versus a national average of .458 lb/mmBtu).
But the EPA isn’t really making the argument that Texas is an environmental pigsty. It’s not putting any data or findings behind that premise, at any rate. Instead, it is simply acting high-handedly, assuming an authority that nothing in written law confers on it, to pronounce Texas’s procedures in violation of EPA rules – even when there is no basis for making that claim. To put it bluntly, the EPA is making a power grab.

Texas fought back. Without much fanfare, it was announced a couple of weeks ago that the EPA goons had “reached an agreement” with Texas. The “agreement” was that the EPA backed down and the State of Texas won. Kudos to Greg Abbott and the TCEQ for refusing to be bullied:

Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott issued the following statement regarding the Environmental Protection Agency’s announcement that it has reached an agreement with the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality for approval of Texas’ long-standing and successful Flexible Permits Program:
“For almost two decades, the Texas Flex Permits Program has been an effective and legal Texas-based solution to air permitting in our state. We are pleased that the State successfully negotiated with the EPA to obtain a long-overdue path to approval and an agreement that ensures the continued success of this long-standing, successful state air permitting program. This agreement strikes the right balance between helping keep the air we breathe clean while allowing Texas businesses to operate efficiently and create jobs.”
Texas’ Flexible Permits Program was established and sent to the EPA for approval in 1994 – when Ann Richards was Governor of Texas and Bill Clinton was President of the United States. Although the TCEQ has been issuing flexible permits without interference from the federal government since Texas first established the program in 1994, the Obama Administration’s EPA rejected the rules and disapproved the Texas program on July 15, 2010.

About the EPA, it’s just a shame that it took so long to get it done and for no reason other than politics.

Foggy good morning Hamsters. Everything outside on the moors is dripping. The neighborhood looks like Mirkwood, dank and gray. Visibility has improved a bit from 6 when only yard lights pierced the fog, seeming floating halos of sparkling gauzy droplets with no recognizable support. Houses and trees now have vague shapes, an improvement in getting one’s bearings. Temp at 59 shall soon begin a drop into the upper 40s by afternoon, or so the weather folks sayeth. A northerly breeze awakens and gains strength, the leading fingers of the next cold front.
According to Edd Hendee this morning, NOAA reports that 2/3 of the lower 48 is snow covered; 80% of the Great Lakes is frozen over now. The next Polar Vortex will add to both. Batten down.

Yea for Greg Abbott’s strength in defending Texas and American values. Looking forward to him as Governor.

80% of the Great Lakes is frozen over now.

    Yup.

The Great Lakes ice cover on 7th February had reached 78% and will continue increasing in the coming days – at least until the 3rd week of February.

Ice continued to build this past week on the Great Lakes due to the cold air and temperatures staying below freezing, and Lake Superior’s new record shows it.
The lake is 92 percent frozen, toppling a 20-year-old record of 91 percent set on Feb. 5, 1994. That statistic helped total Great Lakes ice cover soar, and we can expect to see more form in coming days.

Ice cover on Lake Huron rocketed up an additional 14 percent this week, climbing to a total ice cover of 86 percent. If the ice continues to build at that rate in this next week, Lake Huron could be almost frozen over, or frozen over by the end of next week.

The meat sacks on the left are now trying to spin people losing their jobs due to O’JugEarsCare as a good thing, now they are no longer held captive to their jobs just so they can have insurance. Never mind the absurd conflation of health care insurance with actually receiving health care. Never mind that people work so they can eat and enjoy a comfortable lifestyle, never mind that depending on the gov’t handouts amounts to subsistence and slavery and all that.

  10. Hamous Avatar

Or that somebody else has to work to pay for their subsidized health care so they don’t have to.

Just so we all are reminded what a lying shrew, utterly dangerous and yet blitheringly incompetent this woman is we have this:

In an interview with the New York Times as she ran for president in 2008, Hillary Clinton said she had never seriously considered adopting a single-payer system, in which the government, using funds appropriated from taxpayers, pays for all health care expenses.
“You know, I have thought about this, as you might guess, for 15 years and I never seriously considered a single payer system,” said Clinton in the interview.

If we are to consider what was said in the quote above as anything other than steaming BS, what then was HillaryCare all about if not single payer?

The biggest success of the lefty’s which, by definition, represents the greatest failure of the American Public disEducation System is the inability/unwillingness of the bulk of the populace to engage in second and third order thinking. Never are the consequences of actions explored. The likely outcomes of a given policy and the results of people rationally changing their behavior as a response to those policies are never explored. The CBO is prohibited from engaging in this logic, which is why they produce such laughable BS on such a consistent basis.

#13 continued: The link provided by M42 to the NY POST, although lacking the story to which she alluded, did produce this interesting story

HEADLINE: Congressional Budget Office sends death blow to ObamaCare
    /snip
The one-two punch: Virtually as many Americans will lack health coverage in 10 years as before the law was passed — but 2 million fewer will be working than if the law hadn’t passed.

So let me get this straight, the ACA, which was supposed to provide insurance to the uninsured,
    1) will result in almost no increase in the number of people covered by insurance: FAIL!
    2) was supposed to decrease costs to the consumer but in fact will dramatically increase premiums, co-pays, and most significantly deductibles: FAIL!
    3) the decrease in those working, people losing their jobs as a direct result of the ACA will place an additional tax burden on those who are still employed, literally taking food off of the table of those who produce to feed those who refuse to work: FAIL!
    4) The overall cost was supposed to be under a TRILLION dollars over 10 years, now it is going to be 3+ trillion and counting: FAIL!
Come on Mr. Boehner, defund this abomination now and if necessary shut down the govt to slay this monster.

C’mon, “progressives”. Just think of it as a post-birth abortion and you’ll be okay. Here’s a nice giraffe-skin blanket to keep you cozy. There you go. How ’bout a juicy Giraffa camelopardalis steak? It’s kosher!

BTW, while the giraffe is kosher, the lion, leopard and camel are not.

BTW, while the giraffe is kosher, the lion, leopard and camel are not(??)

Perhaps I’m simply ignorant (wouldn’t be the first time 🙂 ) regarding Kosher vs. NOT Kosher…………..aren’t ‘cloven hoofs’ part of the qualifiers?
Camel and Giraffes both have cloven hoofs if I’m not mistaken
Or………………what else am I missing or uninformed about?

  20. Bonecrusher Avatar
    Bonecrusher

The camel’s foot is in fact cloven, but it is not a hard hoof, like a sheep or a cow or a deer, but in fact is soft-ish therefore not kosher. A pig has a hard cloven hoof but is not a ruminen, (or how ever that word is spelt) ie, possessing a 4 chambered stomach, like the critters above, therefore the pig is not kosher.
The qualifier is two fold, a cloven hoof (implying hard keratin fingernail like) and chewing the cud.

    #22 – Bonecrusher:
The giraffe is in fact a ruminant – having a 4 chambered stomach and the ability to chew it’s cud. It also has horns – albeit short and small – called ossicones, which are present on both genders.
I believe that these characteristics would qualify it as kosher.
BTW – if you want to butcher one, plan to spend a while, giraffes have some of the toughest, thickest skin of any mammal around.

More senseless violence and bloodshed from the adherents of the religion of peace.

He was a Christian walking in a Muslim enclave, carrying wood to sell. In these tense days, that is enough reason to die in the Central African Republic. A Muslim mob confronted Pumandele, 23, on a side street and pushed him around. Then, they threw him into a ditch. At least one man stabbed him before his throat was slit.
