Good morning Hamsters. The SOTU fiasco reviews roll in, none very complimentary so far. Glad we did not waste oxygen watching it. Wonder how many folks are hung over from playing the drinking game while forcing themselves to watch it. There were so many opportunities to imbibe I hear.
Today should be much warmer and so welcome. Maybe the plants on the back porch can go out on the patio for a few days before the next front rolls in. The mares will be happy to get out of the barn today and move around some. Sunlight would also be welcome.

Ted Cruz on Obama’s use of Executive Orders:

There is no example of lawlessness more egregious than the enforcementโ€”or nonenforcementโ€”of the president’s signature policy, the Affordable Care Act. Mr. Obama has repeatedly declared that “it’s the law of the land.” Yet he has repeatedly violated ObamaCare’s statutory text.
The law says that businesses with 50 or more full-time employees will face the employer mandate on Jan. 1, 2014. President Obama changed that, granting a one-year waiver to employers. How did he do so? Not by going to Congress to change the text of the law, but through a blog post by an assistant secretary at Treasury announcing the change.
The law says that only Americans who have access to state-run exchanges will be subject to employer penalties and may obtain ObamaCare premium subsidies. This was done to entice the states to create exchanges. But, when 34 states decided not to establish state-run exchanges, the Obama administration announced that the statutory words “established by State” would also mean “established by the federal government.”
The law says that members of Congress and their staffs’ health coverage must be an ObamaCare exchange plan, which would prevent them from receiving their current federal-employee health subsidies, just like millions of Americans who can’t receive such benefits. At the behest of Senate Democrats, the Obama administration instead granted a special exemption (deeming “individual” plans to be “group” plans) to members of Congress and their staffs so they could keep their pre-existing health subsidies.
Most strikingly, when over five million Americans found their health insurance plans canceled because ObamaCare made their plans illegalโ€”despite the president’s promise “if you like your plan, you can keep it”โ€”President Obama simply held a news conference where he told private insurance companies to disobey the law and issue plans that ObamaCare regulated out of existence.

I worked until 1:00 a.m. AGAIN last night – at least it wasn’t 3:00! But I went to be early because I needed to access something from the internet, and the inet just wasn’t working. I could get to it, I could see the screens, but reloading the web pages took for-wissing-EVVV-EERRRRRRRRR. I finally gave up and went to bed.
So, this morning, I’m just getting into the office. I have a luncheon to attend for our professional organization, then I have to prepare for tonight’s class. I’ve been warned that one of my helpers may not be there due to a sick kid, and this is the lady who handles all of my administrative stuff for me. I have to make my copies myself today, which means I need to be up at the church early. Somewhere between the lunch and church I have to work in a possible bank run and cook dinner.
That’s after I load up with my caffeine this morning and get myself rolling.
It’s going to be a long day. Y’all keep me in your prayers. And my class, too. I’m either going to be a bit dodgy tonight or really angry. I’ll try to lean to the silly side. I don’t want to be sued by some angry parent. I have enough stress already.

Grimm released a statement following the incident.
“I was extremely annoyed because I was doing NY1 a favor by rushing to do their interview first in lieu of several other requests. The reporter knew that I was in a hurry and was only there to comment on the State of the Union, but insisted on taking a disrespectful and cheap shot at the end of the interview, because I did not have time to speak off-topic. I verbally took the reporter to task and told him off, because I expect a certain level of professionalism and respect, especially when I go out of my way to do that reporter a favor. I doubt that I am the first Member of Congress to tell off a reporter, and I am sure I wonโ€™t be the last,” reads the statement.

So a congress critter with an R next to his name actually behaves like he possesses cajones, whoodathunkit? I hope more and more Rs finally get a belly full of the cheap shot, hyper partisan press and take them to task for it. Bust their butts when they step over the line and violate the agreed format.

U.S. Border Patrol agents last fiscal year apprehended about 57,500 more people attempting to cross into the United States illegally via the southern border than in 2012, according to data released this week by the agency.
The spike, however, is attributed mainly to an influx of immigrants coming from countries other than Mexico. Agency officials said in a statement that those immigrants were โ€œpredominantly individuals from Central America.โ€

Apparently twenty people are challenging Senator Cornyn.
The Larouchees are always so much fun.

The fifth Democrat in the race, Rogers, is the only candidate to have previously won two Democratic primaries, both for a U.S. House seat in 2010 and 2012. Yet she is also the most controversial candidate, as she advocates for the impeachment of President Obama for his โ€œadvancing the post-9/11 banker’s dictatorship initiated by his predecessor,โ€ according to her campaign website.
A supporter of political activist Lyndon LaRouche, Rogers also supports replacing Obamacare with a single-payer health care system, increasing funding for NASA and reviving the Glass-Steagall Act, a Depression-era law that curtailed financial speculation by commercial banks.
โ€œMy first priority would be to bankrupt Wall Street, to shut down the bail-out and bail-in policy,โ€ Rogers said.
But itโ€™s her support for Obamaโ€™s impeachment that has prompted the Texas Democratic Partyโ€™s executive committee to actively oppose Rogers’ campaign. On the partyโ€™s website, the other four candidates for U.S. Senate are listed, but not Rogers.

I met someone with the most confusing background ever, I believe.
The waiter at our association luncheon today joined in the conversation as we were “discussing” Obamacare. He seemed to be very conservative. I talked to him afterwards (because I talk to everyone), and found him to be quite an enjoyable conversationalist.
It turns out that he’s a Bulgarian adopted by a Chinese father and Korean mother. His name tag read “Trey” but his real name is “Peter”. (They ran out of name tags, he said.)
So I have a conservative gay guy wearing a name tag with a name not his own, who’s ethnicity is Bulgarian but has a Chinese last name, and two Asian parents from two different Asian countries.
I’m assuming none of that keeps him up at night.

Lovely has informed me of this:

Don Luis Cruz brightened the days of many on the southeast side of Houston with his violin playing during prime traffic hours, proving that talent can be found most anywhere, at any time if you just listen close. Cruz was known for playing on the sidewalks near busy intersections for tips. It was reported that he used that tip money to make sure his grandchildren received an allowance.
Cruz passed away on Tuesday according to family members. He was 90 years old. Many didn’t know his name or his story, but he was a part of their daily lives. He had thousands of Facebook followers, was a pop culture fixture on the south side of Houston, and he even had local rapper Chingo Bling in his pocket.

I have passed this man near Woodridge and Loop 610 several times. It always brightened my day to see him playing on the corner. He didn’t beg for money, he earned it. He always had a smile on his face and seemed to really enjoy what he was doing.
    RIP, kind sir.
