At any rate, today I’ll apologize for a number of things, such as thinking that Stalin was merely a “hard driver” and not a “supremely cruel misleader.” I guess anyone who calls himself a Christian should be prepared to apologize for the Inquisition, the burning of heretics by Protestants, the slaughter of Jews and Muslims by Crusaders. White people in the U.S.A. ought to apologize for stealing land from Native Americans and enslaving blacks. Europeans could apologize for worldwide conquests, Mongolians for Genghis Khan. And supporters of Roosevelt could apologize for his support of Somoza, of Southern White Democrats, of Franco Spain, for putting Japanese Americans in concentration camps. Who should my granddaughter Moraya apologize to? She’s part African, part European, part Chinese, part Japanese, part Native American. Let’s look ahead. — Pete Seeger

Well Petey, no Christian alive today is personally responsible for the Inquisition or Crusades. No white person alive in the USA today stole land from the Indians or enslaved blacks. No Mongolian today ever raped and pillaged with Genghis Khan. YOU, on the other hand, are directly and personally responsible for a lifetime of hawking your failed communist ideology on multiple generations of misguided youth, and now, your day of reckoning has arrived.

OK as of 5:10 today I know for a fact that there is NO HOPE for this once great country! I got a text from NASA/JSC that since the temperature will be below 29 degrees and raining, the site will be shut down tomorrow!!!! Beam me up Scotty, there is NO intelligent life down here!!!
BTW; What do you wanna’ bet that my trash will be picked up tomorrow? I know that it WILL be picked up, they may run late but they will pick it up. Even though I was Annexed @ gun point by the Peoples Republic of Houston a while back, we got to keep our private garbage company, and guess what, it is better and cheaper than what our Gay mayor has to offer.

In the traditional sense of the word, she’s not very gay, in fact she’s downright angry most of the time (but her shoes are comfortable). But, in fairness to the City of Houston, we don’t pay a fee for garbage service so yours can’t be cheaper unless their paying you for your garbage.

One has to really wonder how someone that stupid and unethical could ever get appointed to the bench.
The possibility of an Elizabeth Coker presiding over a trial anywhere is reason enough alone to justify even the most obnoxious defense attorneys.

These people, Tax Analysts, are non-partisan tax researchers and reporters. They’ve spent their own time and money doing the hard work on the Obama administration’s IRS scandal over conservative non-profit approvals. FOIA requests and suing the feds costs money.
They are worth following and if you are inclined, send them a thanks for what they do.

But, in fairness to the City of Houston, we don’t pay a fee for garbage service so yours can’t be cheaper unless their paying you for your garbage.

It can’t be free so does it come out of the taxes on your house or is it included in the water bill like it is in Alabama? If it comes out of the property tax then I pay for my garbage twice same with the water bill. My garbage comes out of the CIA fees, which very low @ $295 and we have a pool to maintain. FWIW; When Houston stole our MUD district they doubled my water bill and starting taxing me without providing any other service.

Hammy is correct. There is no itemized city bill for garbage pickup or for recycling pickup. The latter has not been available in all neighborhoods, only those where some data they had about the residents indicated they would put out recyclables at a high enough percentage to make it worthwhile to send the truck. At some point CoH says they will do single-stream recycling from one bin.

In case any of you missed my news late last night, Meglet had her baby just a few weeks early. Isaiah Nolan was born yesterday morning around tennish. Meg’s Hubby and Mommy are frantically rearranging the home for the baby, since he wasn’t expected quite yet and they obviously were taking their time putting up the playpen, crib, moving the master bed, etc. (All according to her FB post, anyway.)
So, Meg, I don’t know if you lurk or if you’ve moved permanently over to FB, but I’ll add my Couch congratulations to my FB ones. Enjoy motherhood, no matter how rushed! You and your hubby will be great parents, if you just relax and enjoy every moment. Especially now, while he’s so tiny. These moments, when he’s just this little ball of wonderfulness, passes way too quickly!

    Well, this doesn’t shock me!

96 Percent of Dems Who Support Minimum Wage Hike Don’t Pay Their Interns

Liberals are really pushing raising the minimum wage for 2014. … Yet, a new study from the Employment Policies Institute (EPI) has exposed the proponents of raising the minimum wage of their “hypocrisy.” It seems that 96% of Democrats who support such measures don’t pay their interns.
The abstract of the EPI study noted that “the same Members of Congress who are supporting a 40% wage hike on private sector employers are simultaneously failing to provide any wages to their own employee interns.”

And as for that “War on Women” thing?

Last year, I wrote for Newsbusters about how the media rail about the gender wage gap, but seem to ignore that the Obama White House paid their female staffers 88.3% of what their male ones earn.
Furthermore, then-Washington Free Beacon reporter Andrew Stiles reported in May 2012 that the female members of the Senate Democratic Caucus are some of the worst offenders concerning the gender wage gap.
“Female members of Murray’s staff made about $21,000 less per year than male staffers in 2011, a difference of 33.8 percent,” reported Stiles.
Additionally, “a significant ‘gender gap’ exists in Feinstein’s office, where women also made about $21,000 less than men in 2011, but the percentage difference—41 percent—was even higher than Murray’s. Boxer’s female staffers made about $5,000 less, a difference of 7.3 percent.”

  38. Hamous Avatar

I didn’t say we don’t pay for garbage service. I said there’s not a separate fee for it. My point being, Super Dave is paying the exact same taxes I am AND he’s paying for private garbage service. In essence he’s paying for garbage service twice.

The two least “Bible-minded” cities in the United States are the adjacent metros of Providence, R.I., and New Bedford, Mass., according to a study out Wednesday from the American Bible Society.
The study defines “Bible-mindedness” as a combination of how often respondents read the Bible and how accurate they think the Bible is. “Respondents who report reading the bible within the past seven days and who agree strongly in the accuracy of the Bible are classified as ‘Bible Minded,’” says the study’s methodology.

Sprinkles off and on, 31 and windy. Icicles forming on the fence rails, ice on the house roof and tree leaves, just wet on the sidewalk and drive.
My friend in Austin called shortly after 10 this morning to find out what Houston was experiencing, as she heard it was pretty much shut down. She related that the Austin area was somewhat surprised to have freezing rain, sleet, and snow early this morning that left ice forming on roads and highways just at rush hour. People already at work and those trying to get there became marooned where they were because of it. Austin and environs were icy and cold (21 this morning). Some school districts closed, but not all at first. She lives off 290 a ways beyond Oak Hill heading toward Dripping Springs. Apparently the powers that be with Dripping Springs ISD were unaware of conditions until several school bus drivers informed them that it was darned icy out there as they deposited their charges at one school, and the schools were then closed for the day. ‘Cept the children already there are sorta marooned with whatever staff also made it there until road conditions improve so they can go home. Bet that school will be a lively place today. 🙂

Not really surprised to hear that Austin and environs is still not well coordinated for winter ice response. I worked in downtown Austin for about 5 years and most of the approaches to the building I worked in were quite hilly. There was never any sanding. You were on your own to see if you could drive the hills, and of course you couldn’t without chains on your tires. Several times I parked on a level street several blocks away and then walked to work. At least one of those times, I had no sooner got there than I heard we were closed for the day. This was in the olden times before instant mobile communications had been invented.

We were told to stay home today. Partly in response to a huge internal push for safe driving (due to some less-then-intelligent drivers in the ME) and the abundance of tall bridges on most approaches to the office.

Maybe we can trade ours for Austin’s. It seems most of us in the Houston area could have safely made it to work today. It is funny how we collectively react to weather. Katrina did a number on N.O. so we abandoned Houston in droves at the coming of Rita. Not enough people stayed home last Friday and there were 500+ wrecks in the area. Today we all sat at home while the roadways were fine.

Not that I drink, nor do I watch TBO, but what are the rules for tonight’s drinking game? I suggest:
    1 drink for:
    – every time he blames Bush
    – every time he points out a victim in the gallery
    – every time he mentions the plight of the illegals
    – every time he criticizes the Supreme Court
    – every spending program he mentions
    – “let me be clear”
    – every time he praises Obamacare
    2 drinks for:
    – every time he blames the Republicans for holding up legislation / gridlock / resistance
    – every time he says “the economy is better / improving”
    – every Tea Party reference; this includes “extreme wings/members of the Republican party”
    3 drinks for:
    – playing the race card in any form – blacks, hispanic, or martians
    – Benghazi reference
    – F&F reference
    – IRS targeting conservative groups references
    – every time he says he will circumvent Congress / bend the Constitutional rules
Democrats have to finish their glasses if:
    – Obama takes responsibility for Benghazi – like mentioning someone getting fired, etc.
I am sure that the drinking host will be arranging taxis and rides for those participating in the drinking games, since all participants will be snockered within a half hour.
