First up, Sebelius states the Obamacare website never crashed.
I see – the error message really means “you’re too wissing stupid to manage your own health care.”
FLOTUS thinks kids will prefer fruits and veggies to candy.

Just imagine what will happen when we take our kids to the grocery store, and they see Elmo and Rosita and the other Sesame Street Muppets they love up and down the produce aisle. Imagine what it will be like to have our kids begging us to buy them fruits and vegetables instead of cookies, candy and chips.

And, in case you didn’t know, Craigslist is a safe site from which to buy a home.
And last but not least (and maybe not even the last), Obamacare premiums are a great success.
I want their drugs. It might help me get through the madness. I can probably get it from the RFU’s magical horn. Or maybe I need to pass through the rainbow.

About the fake home listing, back in the 80’s after the oil boom bust, a lot of people were upside down in their homes. Crooks would put up cardboard signs on the roads that said “I will but your house”. They’d get the owners to pay a small fee ($1000-$2000) and take over their payments. The owners would move out he’d rent the place to somebody, then never make the mortgage payments while collecting the rent for about 6 months. Later the folks that sold the home would find out that they DIDN’T really sell it after all and now were facing foreclosure.

Way back when I was a kid the people that decided it was for our own good to give us fruit instead of candy were put on a special Halloween list. They usually only tried that one year.
This lady, however, is taking it to a whole nuther level:

“You (sic) child is, in my opinion, moderately obese and should not be consuming sugar treats to the extent of some children this Halloween season,” the letter reads. “My hope is that you will step up as an adult and ration candy this Halloween and not allow your child to continue these unhealthy eating habits.”

I wouldn’t even want to be her next door neighbor on Halloween night.

Good soggy morning Hamsters. Mugly 75 and air you can wear and bathe in as well while walking from here to there. Yuck. Flash flood warning boxes are all over the map north of us. So far 0.4″ in our rain gauge from last night and early this morning, and obviously there is so much more to come. Kin in Madison, WI called last night to say Happy Birthday to spouse and reported they were getting rain off and on all day from the same weather system we are slogging through. Bring on that front.

The Republican candidate in NYC should have locked up this race. But Joe Lhota is possibly the worst campaigner I’ve ever seen. Leftist New Yorkers will willingly vote for Republican candidates because, typically, the local Democratic machine nominates clinically insane candidates who are drooling sycophants of Stalin and Mao. New Yorkers know what they have to do for survival, but this current episode is absolutely suicidal.
It’s going to be entertaining to watch this city swirl down the drain. Between Obama and the impending Sandinista-sympathizing Bill DiBlasio administration, conservatism may get a real boost from unlikely places.

  12. Hamous Avatar

Texpat – it seems that the one bright spot in NYC over the last 20 years has been the significant drop in crime. That will change drastically. Couple that with the financial ruin sure to accompany a communist mayor and you’re looking at a NYC circa mid ’70s.

Here’s another one for you, Hammie.
Drudge links to this interview with William Peter Blatty.

Mere steps away from lunch is evidence of the fallen, in his eyes: his beloved alma mater, which he believes has drifted perilously into secularism. This month, Blatty submitted to the Vatican a petition with thousands of signatures and a 120-page institutional audit that calls for the removal of Georgetown’s Catholic and Jesuit designations if it does not comply with every little rule in “Ex Corde Ecclesiae,” John Paul II’s constitution for affiliated colleges. The university, for its part, says the “Catholic and Jesuit identity on campus has never been stronger.”
Bill, what are you doing? people have asked him.
Bill, times change. Let it go.

An interesting question: will the Democrat nominee in 2016 run proudly on the “progressive” failures or will they seek to resurrect the ghost of Slick Willie?

The reason why CBS and other news agencies have finally started getting honest about Obamacare and are carefully crafting a Benghazi narrative that is damaging to Barry and casting Hillary as blameless is precisely because the Democrats are going to be running back to the Clintons crying like little girls.
The tragedy is going to be that the Establishment republican party is going to run a candidate that will be selling the same soap as Hillary will be: Smaller Big Government that runs better, and will therefore lose as they have become accustomed to doing as it really makes no difference to them who wins because that goal will be reached regardless of the outcome.
Conservatives are going to have to come to the realization that they are going to have to back somebody like Rand Paul or Ted Cruz in order to provide the necessary cover for past sins of government and policy and offer a contrasting vision that emphasizes personal Liberty married to fiscal sanity and moral judgment. We’re going to have to look past some of the problems we might have with some policies of whatever candidate runs, but that calculation is going to have to involve the fact that our choice will be limited to Hillary or a republican just like her, or somebody who will stop the insanity.

If the LIV starts to see the press be critical of JugEars (even though now it is irrelevant as he will not run for re-election we hope) they will be roped in again to now vote for the first woman president exactly the same way they were fooled into voting for the first black president. Hitlery’s genetalia will be the only issue, her positions on policy which are perhaps even to the left of JugEars will never be discussed. Anybody that tries to bring up her history and her advocacy will immediately be branded a misogynistic, knuckle dragging, neanderthal whose opinions mean nothing.
If anybody remembers and brings up the fact that in Hitlerycare, any physician that chose to treat somebody for cash and not be under her socialized program would be committing a crime, they will be branded a hater. The LSM will claim that Hitlery has evolved and any assertions to the contrary are simply absurd.
Anybody that brings up the utter foreign policy debacles of Egypt, Libya, Iran and Syria will be cast as uninformed and unable to understand the nuances of complexities that exist in that part of the world. The full court press for Hitlery to be prez has already begun with the Sen D wimminzes and will continue for the LSM before the 2014 elections.

An all-day rainy spell saps ambition, invites napping, and ups web browsing after viewing the radar. Spouse is waiting for a break in the rain to go vote. I’ve decided that doing laundry is not an option until all this mess is out in the Gulf. On the off chance that a thunderboomer cell rips through and knocks out power, I’d like to avoid having clothes caught in a dead washer or dryer. And if the steady rain continues unabated, the puddles and ponds now forming in the yards and pastures will saturate the septic system drainfields (we have two), meaning water discharge from the house must be conserved for only the most necessary uses.

I came home from my class last night, and parked in the driveway on far side of the yard because otherwise I’d be parking halfway in mud. I had my purse and netbook slung over my right shoulder, and my cell phone in my right pocket. It’s really dark on that side – no lights at all. I took one step, and the second step landed my left leg in the hole left behind when a tree fell over last year. My menfolk hauled the tree off, but never bothered to fill in the dang hole.
Fortunately, all of my electronics missed being dunked in the water, and I didn’t wrench my back. I had mud up past my knee, and my rain boot was pretty useless as a rain boot after that. I slogged to the front door, banged on it so Handsome would come and get my belongings, then took my boot off and poured the water out. Wissed, I was. Very wissed.

    You know…
It’s all swell and all that Sibelius took responsibility for the healthcare.gov launch failure. Lots of mid to high-ranking government officials have taken responsibility for lots of things over the years.
But, at some point, we need to figure out a way to not only hold these people responsible, but hold then accountable as well. Personally accountable. A failure of the magnitude we’re talking about in this instance would likely not have happened in the private sector, not because the private sector is perfect, but because the private sector has better controls that would have likely pulled the plug before this project was only double its budget.
The CIO, program/project manager and a good chunk of their staffs would have been fired in the process. If the failure was particularly egregious (i.e. could have been easily and significantly mitigated or foreseen), there would be a very high likelihood of shareholder action and/or chance of prosecution of the rest of senior management.

  26. Tedtam Avatar

Saying “I’m responsible” means nothing if there are no consequences for bad behavior or incompetent execution.

Michelle Malkin has a nice read on the Ocare disaster and its follow-up.
JugEars boldly proclaimed that if you like your plan you can keep it. Then in the law he inserted that it was illegal for insurers to offer certain plans that you may well have liked. Because the law made it illegal for the insurers to offer these plans, they were by necessity of the law no longer available and therefore, no matter how much you liked your plan you could not keep it.
In an Orwellian hurricane of BS, JugEars then goes on to claim that all those plans which are being cancelled (you know, the ones you liked and wanted to keep) were substandard and therefore you were too stupid to know this so we had to put you in a better plan for your own good.

  37. Hamous Avatar

Unfortunately not much help to the Highland lakes. Most of the heavy rains fell below Lake Travis:

The storm that poured 5 to 8 inches of rain on parts of Austin late Wednesday and early Thursday caused localized flooding and prompted LCRA to open floodgates on Tom Miller Dam in Austin for several hours. However, the rain will do little to help the severe drought affecting the region’s water supply because it fell downstream of the Highland Lakes’ watershed.
In order for rain to fill lakes Travis and Buchanan, the region’s reservoirs, it must fall in the 11,700-mile watershed surrounding the Highland Lakes, an area upstream of Austin stretching north past San Saba and west past Fredericksburg and Junction.
Less than an inch of rain fell in the watershed that runs off into Lake Travis, and there was no measurable rain in much of the area that runs off into Lake Buchanan. The combined storage of lakes Travis and Buchanan increased slightly overnight and is now at 36 percent of capacity.
Through noon Thursday, Lake Travis had risen about 6 inches and Lake Buchanan rose about half an inch.
Much of the overnight rains fell into creeks in the Lake Austin watershed, below Lake Travis. LCRA opened floodgates on Tom Miller Dam, which forms Lake Austin, for several hours late Wednesday and early Thursday to keep the lake within its operating range. LCRA has no way to capture floodwaters that enter the river below Lake Travis.

My rabbi is a long-time Adobe subscriber and Photoshop user. The hackers cleaned out his bank accounts last week and tried to use one of his credit cards.
I hope no one here was exposed.
It seems the Adobe situation is much worse than first thought.

At the time, a massive trove of stolen Adobe account data viewed by KrebsOnSecurity indicated that — in addition to the credit card records – tens of millions of user accounts across various Adobe online properties may have been compromised in the break-in. It was difficult to fully examine many of the files on the hackers’ server that housed the stolen source because many of the directories were password protected, and Adobe was reluctant to speculate on the number of users potentially impacted.
But just this past weekend, AnonNews.org posted a huge file called “users.tar.gz” that appears to include more than 150 million username and hashed password pairs taken from Adobe. The 3.8 GB file looks to be the same one Hold Security CISO Alex Holden and I found on the server with the other data stolen from Adobe.

    and this…good grief…

As many readers have pointed out in comments on previous KrebsOnSecurity posts, Adobe has offered a year’s worth of credit monitoring to customers whose encrypted credit card data was stolen in the breach. As it happens, Adobe’s offering comes through Experian, one of the three major credit bureaus and a company that is still reeling from a security breach in which the company was tricked into selling consumer records directly to an online identity theft service.
