In a first for me, the fire alarms in this upscale hotel went off a while ago. On the way out, I noticed there was a lake in the hallway.
Meanwhile, we’re all out in the parking lot in our jammies.
At least it’s not raining.

We are on the way home from a cruise around the Baltic Sea. Had limited email service on the ship and asked ST who also inquired to please forward my reply to you, but guess it didn’t make it. Lots to tell. Will be home tomorrow evening and likely wiped out. Have sort of kept up with doings at home, glad that the TX House passed the abortion bill so fast and hope Dewhurst doesn’t screw it up again.

Two brothas playing b-ball. I ruled out ND.

The reason why I asked is that it appears there was a Sharknado in Flarda that went unreported in the media.

Two brothas playing b-ball. I ruled out ND.I took a parking lot full of nearly identical white trucks and to Pyro’s employment history to indicate oil field activity, and the long construction dumpster to the left of the apartment as being evidence of rapid expansion of population and since west TX had already been ruled out, went with ND.

Correct.

HEADLINE:
‘Crackers,’ a ‘teenage mammy’ — the sorry truth about race and Zimmerman trial
“White Hispanics,” “Creepy-Ass Crackers,” “Teenage Mammies,” and “Suspicious A–holes who always get away” — that is the vernacular of the George Zimmerman trial.
George Zimmerman faces life in jail as a jury considers second-degree murder charges against him for killing 17-year-old Trayvon Martin. But thanks to the media he is already sentenced to life in the American public’s mind as a racist. So far, so good. He is correct that the LSM has viciously slandered the character of Z. Then there is this:
Jeantel’s testimony set off a stupid debate, requiring total ignorance of slavery and legal segregation, about the equivalence of blacks using “cracker” to describe whites, versus whites using the word “nigger” to describe blacks.
The issue of slavery is moot, completely irrelevant as it was ended over 150 years ago. No one living today has a parent who was a slave, it is highly unlikely that anyone living today has a grandparent that was a slave and was alive at the same time as the living person today. It is a dead issue and we should leave it in the grave along with the half a million or so white people who made it so.
The end of segregation is a more recent development, but that too was accomplished over 50 years ago. In a act of atonement, white males have been specifically discriminated against in government contracting for 40 years through the affirmative action programs. None of the people in the job market today had anything to do with segregation of the past, so why are the whites (mostly males) still being punished with the affirmative action and minority set-asides?
Language is language, and that language which is designed to hurt, as using the N word is or Cracker, should be treated in the same fashion. If it is inappropriate for a white to use the N word in referring to a black, it is also inappropriate for a black to use that same word to refer to another black. Likewise, if the N word is inappropriate, so then must the Cracker word. If we want everybody to be treated as equals, judged by the content of their character instead of the color of their skin, then the standard(s) must be the same across all lines.
No more affirmative action, minority set asides, extra points or consideration given to anyone based on skin color or genetalia or sexual preference. The time for all this racial division to stop is now. The ultimate glass ceiling (POTUS) has been broken, so let’s stop with all the non-sense and let everybody stand on their own merits. -
When you said water tower and stadium, I knew.

IT IS FRIDAY
/Oh wait two more work days till Monday. -
Got back from the chiropractor. I’m doing well enough that he wants to go for only twice next week, cutting back on one of our trips.
Unless, of course, I make the mistaken assumption again that my fresh-out-of-back-surgery-MIL will have her sister with her to help me, and I end up fishing my wheelchair in and out of the back of the car by myself. Dammit.
Ice pack. Check.
Ibuprofen. Check.
Kicking myself. Rain check.
But I’m better, so I’m happier. -
Interesting eyeglass story, btw.
As technology changes, so will the labor market have to ebb and flow. I wonder if TBO will be upset about the changing technology putting people out of work. You know, like ATMs. Because obviously people can’t retrain for other jobs. -

It must be hard to navigate the buildings for the New York Times and The Washington Post.
There’s a new woman in town, and her name is Julie — not Julia.
Remember Julia? She’s the woman that the president promised to care for ’till death do they part during his re-election campaign.
She wasn’t a real person.
But while Julia was make believe, Julie is as real as people get. A real person whose concerns over the past week have been ridiculed, dismissed, and called dishonest by The New York Times and The Washington Post.I mean, you can only make left turns in the hallways.

Warning: Some rough language!16 best quotes from the retiring Gen. James Mattis
BY: Washington Free Beacon Staff
March 18, 2013 3:16 pm
Gen. James Mattis, known to his troops as “Mad Dog Mattis,” is retiring after 41 years of military service.
The Marine Corps Times is calling Mattis the “most revered Marine in a generation.”
Mattis has been commander of the United States Central Command since 2010 and led the 1st Marine Division into Iraq in 2003.
According to reports, President Barack Obama decided to force the Marine Corps legend out early because he rubbed civilian officials the wrong way, and forced them to answer tough questions regarding Iran.
Mattis was an inspirational leader of men and his powerful words will go down in history.
Here are some of the best words that the “Mad Dog” has had to offer:
1. “I don’t lose any sleep at night over the potential for failure. I cannot even spell the word.”
(San Diego Union Tribune)
AP
2. “The first time you blow someone away is not an insignificant event. That said, there are some wissholes in the world that just need to be shot.”
(Business Insider)
3. “I come in peace. I didn’t bring artillery. But I’m pleading with you, with tears in my eyes: If you wiss with me, I’ll kill you all.”
(San Diego Union Tribune)
4. “Find the enemy that wants to end this experiment (in American democracy) and kill every one of them until they’re so sick of the killing that they leave us and our freedoms intact.”
(San Diego Union Tribune)
5. “Marines don’t know how to spell the word defeat.”
(Business Insider)
6. “Be polite, be professional, but have a plan to kill everybody you meet.”
(San Diego Union Tribune)
7. “The most important six inches on the battlefield is between your ears.”
(San Diego Union Tribune)
8. “You are part of the world’s most feared and trusted force. Engage your brain before you engage your weapon.”
(Mattis’ Letter To 1st Marine Division)
9. “There are hunters and there are victims. By your discipline, cunning, obedience and alertness, you will decide if you are a hunter or a victim.”
(Business Insider)
10. “No war is over until the enemy says it’s over. We may think it over, we may declare it over, but in fact, the enemy gets a vote.”
(Defense News)
11. “There is nothing better than getting shot at and missed. It’s really great.”
(San Diego Union Tribune)
12. “You cannot allow any of your people to avoid the brutal facts. If they start living in a dream world, it’s going to be bad.”
(San Diego Union Tribune)
13. “You go into Afghanistan, you got guys who slap women around for five years because they didn’t wear a veil. You know, guys like that ain’t got no manhood left anyway. So it’s a hell of a lot of fun to shoot them. Actually it’s quite fun to fight them, you know. It’s a hell of a hoot. It’s fun to shoot some people. I’ll be right up there with you. I like brawling.”
(CNN)
14. “I’m going to plead with you, do not cross us. Because if you do, the survivors will write about what we do here for 10,000 years.”
(San Diego Union Tribune)
15. “Demonstrate to the world there is ‘No Better Friend, No Worse Enemy’ than a U.S. Marine.”
(Mattis’ Letter To 1st Marine Division)
16. “Fight with a happy heart and strong spirit”
(Mattis’ Letter To 1st Marine Division)
And one final quote for returning Veterans:“When you men get home and face an anti-war protester, look him in the eyes and shake his hand. Then, wink at his girlfriend, because she knows she’s dating a (female kitty)”
Anybody surprised Obama forced this guy to retire early?
-
I needed to and should have hauled water to my adopted oak this morning. But I didn’t get an early start and it was so hot and I didn’t and now I feel guilty. I was going to do that as the first leg of an errand run. I got everything else done. Wonder if I would dare to do it after dark tonight? This tree is on an esplanade on Antoine. There is a reason why HPD has the designation “Antoine Corridor” in their stats.
-
10. “No war is over until the enemy says it’s over. We may think it over, we may declare it over, but in fact, the enemy gets a vote.”
Winner of the YOU GOT THAT RIGHT award.
Whether I agreed or not with the wars in Afghanistan or Iraq makes no matter, the fact remains we were there to fight a war. WE LOST those wars the moment we went in because Bushco was not prepared to do what it takes to set the jihadis and Taliban on their heels for the next 40 years. The moment I heard the arguments that we needed to win the hearts of the people in the midst of what should have been the heights of hostilities by the US I knew we were screwed.
Peace is the absence of war, nothing more. The trick is to have the world believe you are the baddest dog on the planet and not start crap with you. When they get stupid enough to slap you well you punch kick and stomp them till they cry uncle at least 10 times. THEN you MIGHT have peace for a short time. -
11. “There is nothing better than getting shot at and missed. It’s really great.”
He’s a kindred spirit to this guy:
“Nothing in life is so exhilarating as to be shot at without result.”
— Sir Winston Churchill
Gotta differ with this:Peace is the absence of war, nothing more.
Peace is the absence of the desire for war. You have to beat your enemy so badly that he not only can’t fight anymore, but doesn’t have the desire to either.
-
You have to beat your enemy so badly that he not only can’t fight anymore, but doesn’t have the desire to either.
Not quite; you have to beat the enemy so badly that the few who remain slap themselves for even thinking about starting any more schizzle with you. In fact, they slap themselves for starting schizzle with you in the first place. This behavior needs to continue for at least 100 years or the error of their ways was not made clear enough.
-
More to my #71: We could do it the way that Y-VH told Israel to do it: kill them all, including wimminses and chirrenzes; kill all their animals and burn all of their possessions. Erase their memory from the earth.
-
The problem is bunson, the desire for war will never ever be eradicated. The mass of people may be afraid but the embers of conflict are always burning.
I realize the evidence is anecdotal, during my time in Germany I spoke with many “old soldiers”. Amazing what a little bit of schnapps can do to loosen the tongue. These were men that fought against us in the latter part of WWI and WWII. To a man they would fight us again today if given the opportunity because of their nationalistic beliefs. I venture to guess had they been a little younger as emotions rose they would have start a fight with me right there in the gasthaus even though I had been their friend for years before (and after) and benefactor of drink at the time.
NOPE
Peace is the absence of war, nothing more. -
Individually you may be right. But as nations, Germany and Japan were done fighting.
Destroy their cities so that no stone rests on another, then salt the earth. -
Bones
#72
True
And here is a reality not thought of….. we can eradicate all our enemies abroad and bigger than WHOOHOO IT IS FRIDAY we will fight amongst ourselves. It has been 200 years since we have had a civil war, during that time the embers of hate and distrust have grown and soon I think we will see a war amongst ourselves again. In fact we are at war here in our nation today, only the cannons have not been rolled out……… yet. -
Someone axed about the Zimmerman jury yesterday. All of the six members are women. Five are white, one is Hispanic.
-
bunson,
#74
given the right conditions and a couple different prime ministers GerJapmany would go to war today with the peoples blessings.
Take a look at the history of Islam. After the Ottoman empire was beat back, broken up, the Islamists were relatively quiet. No one foresaw the day we see now that began in 1979 in Iran. Why the Islamist nations were our buds then bang here came Khomeini in the 70’s to inflame the youts of Iran. The thirst for war is always “there”. I believe God’s providence keeps it beat back till he decides different and then the willing accomplices step up to the plate. -
#75 Squawk: We don’t have to do it to entire nations even, just a city here and there to make the point that we can and we will; continue the process for as long a necessary. Until the enemy is utterly defeated, with no capability to fight back and even less desire to do so, the war is not over.
As far as your German friends go, I would be willing to bet that they would much rather fight with us against a common enemy (communism, islime, etc) than against us. They know that honest capitalism is the best way to prosper the most people. -
When one considers islime, one really need not go much further than Genesis:
Gen 16:11-12
“Behold, you are with child,
And you will bear a son;
And you shall call his name Ishmael,
Because the Lord has given heed to your affliction.
12 “He will be a wild donkey of a man,
His hand will be against everyone,
And everyone’s hand will be against him;
And he will live to the east of all his brothers.”
NASUThe above has been true since it was written. It will not change until HE returns.
-
I would be willing to bet that they would much rather fight with us against a common enemy (communism, islime, etc) than against us. They know that honest capitalism is the best way to prosper the most people.
Ummmm no. And here is why. After WWII Fr Eng RU and the US were occupying nations to keep Germany from rising up again. RU, Eng FR over the years have pulled out for one reason or another, The US is pulling out of Germany even now. THERE ARE NO US tanks in Germany today. But I digress.
There was a faction of people that were grateful to us for rebuilding their country. However as that generation died off resentment slowly slowly but persistently set in that we were interlopers on their soil. The other half of the old timers were resentful that they got beat and we were interlopers. Nationalism runs deep in Europe and one reason why the EU has not performed well is because the folks have woke up and seen no borders and nationalistic pride under attack. The folks do not want to be states to a United stares of europe. They are going to become that but not just yet.
There is growing animosity against the US. Oh we are their best buds as long as we provide money but after that the the “luv” is waning. -
For those we love to hate.
I’m thinking the yellow teeth one for Nazi Pelosi. At least it’ll keep the wiss-eating grin off her face in front of the cameras. -
