This is just sad, sad, sad:
101M Get Food Aid from Federal Gov’t; Outnumber Full-Time Private Sector Workers

The number of Americans receiving subsidized food assistance from the federal government has risen to 101 million, representing roughly a third of the U.S. population.
The U.S. Department of Agriculture estimates that a total of 101,000,000 people currently participate in at least one of the 15 food programs offered by the agency, at a cost of $114 billion in fiscal year 2012.
That means the number of Americans receiving food assistance has surpassed the number of full-time private sector workers in the U.S.
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), there were 97,180,000 full-time private sector workers in 2012.
The population of the U.S. is 316.2 million people, meaning nearly a third of Americans receive food aid from the government.
Of the 101 million receiving food benefits, a record 47 million Americans participated in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), commonly known as food stamps. The USDA describes SNAP as the “largest program in the domestic hunger safety net.”
The USDA says the number of Americans on food stamps is a “historically high figure that has risen with the economic downturn.”

This administration is the sorriest, ragtag bunch of **** I’ve ever seen.

TT, have you had an actual medical diagnosis as to what is wrong with your problem hip? I forgot to ask last night, but I think you said you had a filling in a baby tooth. How is that possible?

TT, have you had an actual medical diagnosis as to what is wrong with your problem hip?

I REALLY aggravated the nerve that runs through the hip, and I just haven’t been able to rest it enough for it to get well. I’m trying harder in that area, but it’s hard to keep me still. And as soon as I get to feeling better, I push myself harder than I should. My steps should only be a few inches at most, but yesterday when I felt that I was holding people up who were holding doors or walking behind me, I tried to take 6 or 8 inch steps. Big mistake. Big, big, mistake.
We’ll see what the x-rays show tomorrow.

I forgot to ask last night, but I think you said you had a filling in a baby tooth. How is that possible?

I have inherited a condition from my father where I have retained baby teeth and missing adult molars. The enamel on the baby teeth is pretty much gone. With the wacky tooth thing, I also have problems at times with my teeth migrating or moving around in my jaw. It’s been quite a few years since I’ve had that problem, but when this tooth goes, that will probably spark a race to fill the space, which will throw what alignment I do have out of whack, and I could experience intermittent jaw pain as the teeth move around and find new grinding surface angles. That could be off and on for years. A spacer will really help.
Considering how many babies I have, it’s remarkable that I have so few cavities. This one chipped off (that’s happening more often lately) which left a hard to clean space in the tooth. I haven’t had any pain, thank goodness, but I need to have it removed before I do.
BTW, Dr. Payne, my dentist in college (and YES, that is his name) told me that the baby teeth thing is becoming more common. That was mmfmmf years ago that he said that.

Your symptoms in the hip joint sound like bursitis to me and that is helped by simple cheap medication. Shouldn’t you be seeing an orthopedist instead of a chiropracter?

  10. Tedtam Avatar

That may be next. Dr. B. has always been able to get me through similar, though not as serious, problems. I have an appointment with my regular doc soon, so if things don’t get better, I may end up with a coritisone shot. I’ve had that before. Hated it.
But then, I hate this, too. 🙁

This is interesting. It has been widely reported that dogs can detect cancer by scent, now there is a machine that can detect bladder cancer with 100% (to date) accuracy. It is still in the testing phase, no telling what hoops the USDA are a gonna make them jump through to get this in every doctors office.

  12. Bonecrusher Avatar

#13: While a cortisone shot may cure the symptoms, it does not address the real problem. Additionally, the site of a cortisone shot suffers from a permanent decrease in circulation; this will tend to make the next incident more severe and harder to treat.

Senator Rand Paul may not have made up his mind about whether to run for president in 2016, but he is already having some fun at the expense of a possible opponent in the GOP primary. Appearing on Fox News’ Hannity this evening, the Kentucky Republican was asked to comment on both his own presidential prospects and those of Texas Governor Rick Perry, who announced this morning that he will not seek re-election to his current office. Paul replied, “Well, I don’t know about what I’ve decided yet, but if Governor Perry decides to run for president, I think there are three good reasons he could be president: You know, Texas is a big, successful state; he’s a long-term governor; . . . I can’t remember the third one, but, uh . . .” – Will Allen at The Corner

That tribe is a long, long way from any landmass that still has black-skinned natives. It would be neat to have their DNA and see what could be learned of their origins.
Regarding the remains of the boat, it’s been there for 30+ years, hasn’t it? It looks to be mostly submerged. I would assume it has been damaged by waves and storms. Wonder why the big tsunami didn’t dislodge it from the reef?

#59 TexMo I assume that you need 120 AV to 24 VDC? How much current/watts, if its just a display it should be less than an amp, if so almost any small DC transformer, will work. 24 Volts is harder to come by than 12 or 9. Try Amazon 24 VDC 600mA AC Adapter $15 bucks. Also you may want to check Radio Shack or EBay.

Bout my #63 I have a whole box full of old adapters from 6 VDC to 24 VDC in all shapes and sizes from anything from portable phones to computer junk. For years I had an old flat bed scanner that had unbelievable resolution for its day. The first computer that I used it on didn’t have enough RAM to run the thing high resolution. Along about the third computer I could use it to its best advantage and the 12 volt power supply went south. It was around 600-800 ma I think. I found and old transformer that went to a portable phone and tried to use it but the AC hum showed in the pictures. Then I found one that came with the boys defunct Jeep radio/TV/lamp/flashlight/dishwasher….etc and it worked perfectly. Sadly a few years later Microsoftstupid changed their software so my old scanner wouldn’t work with my newer computer. I’ve NOT had as good a scanner since then.

I just put BK’s flea collar on her. When I bought the product, I thought I was getting separate treatments, like drops. It came in an unusual can packaging that I hadn’t seen before. I was reluctant to open it, as BK has usually fought anything on her neck. I cuddled her under a blanket and while she was soporofic, I gently placed the collar on her. Other than a slightly annoyed “meow” she didn’t really react.
Now let’s hope the expensive piece of plastic does it’s job. It’s supposed to be good for 8 months, so I shouldn’t have to change it until February.

I have restrained myself from overdoing today. I wanted to get new covers for my crutches. The pads are old and are coming apart. That would be one stop. I needed to go to the bank. I wanted to go by Wal-Mart and get some spinach and stuff for dinner. (I use spinach in my morning smoothies.) WM has the motorized scooters. Hubby told me I was trying to do too much again, and we’d send Handsome to get the (expletive deleted) crutch pads and other stuff. He thought that crutching from the car to the store to get to the scooter might be too far. And I wanted to return the flea collar and get something else for Barf Kitty, because I really thought she’d take a few fingers in the attempt to put the unfamiliar thing around her neck.
I used the drive through at the bank, so that was good. When I got to Wal-Mart, there was a cart guy driving a cart back to the store. I honked my horn and told him I could use the cart, and would he please take it to the last available handicapped spot over there? He gladly drove it over, so I had all of one step from the car door to the cart. (BTW – I saw a very fit woman drive another handicapped parked car away. Wisser.) So I was able to shop from the cart. Felt weird. And slow. I wish that thing had gears on it. Anyway, got a cold pad that’s supposed to be cold for a long time for when I go to sleep tonight. I think that’s what took me from feeling very sore last night to okay this morning. I had to be sure not to get more than I could carry on crutches. Back to the car and skipped going to Walgreens or CVS for the crutch pieces.
Once home, I started dinner (one of those stick-in-the-oven things), put the cold packs in the freezer, and grabbed my blue-green duck tape. I taped what was left of the cushioning on the crutch, so I saved a few bucks and another stress on my hip. And they’re pretty, too!
As far as the flea collar, Barf Kitty has allowed me to put it on her, so that was a trip to the pet store that was avoided, too.
Maybe my guardian angel’s looking out for me today.

I started reading your activity wrapup and it sounded like your son was going to run some of the errands (although we have heard that doesn’t always work out quite right). But then you went out and did most of it yourself anyway. Isn’t this why you keep having relapses? For example, while you are buzzing along OK in the motorized shopping scooter, don’t you have to get out of the thing and stand up to fetch most of the items you want? Then get yourself back into the scooter…

He’s got the kitty’s bed set up so she’ll sleep on the other couch tonight (although she’s being darn clingy). He and Hubby have both been fetching fresh ice packs for me and Hubby brought my dinner to me so I didn’t have to get up. Handsome put together the salad I requested for dinner, and I’m hoping he finishes the dishes tonight. My neighbor across the street carried Barf Kitty in for me yesterday after the vet visit. OH3 also fetched and toted for me today while we were in the office, and dropped off some papers to MIL’s house just down the street on her way home. Handsome has also gone to pick up my mother’s laundry twice for me now, and will probably go again this week. Hubby’s been willing to buy dinner so I wouldn’t have to cook.
