Mascot Monday

Click the link at your peril. You have been warned!

Buried in the photo gallery of a recent event attended by the Associação de Assistência às Pessoas com Câncer, a Brazilian non-profit that helps people with cancer, is a photo of its horrifying mascot.
The mascot, we are told, goes by the “Mr. Balls,” and he works to raise awareness about testicular cancer. According to the AAPC website and courtesy of some Google-translating, “Both children and adults loved taking pictures with the mascot , a friendly snowman in the shape of testicle.”

RIP Bob. This is the song that started Texas Swing/Rockabilly. Thank you, Bob.

    Fiddler Bob Wills dies
    May 13, 1975
On this day in 1975, Texas swing musician James Robert (Bob) Wills died. He was born in 1905, near Kosse, Limestone County, Texas. In 1913 his family moved to Hall County, where Wills learned to play the fiddle; in 1915 he played at his first dance. He played for ranch dances in West Texas for the next fourteen years, and his life and career were greatly influenced by that environment. During that time he brought together two streams of American folk music to produce western swing. He had learned frontier fiddle music from his father and grandfather, and blues from black playmates and coworkers in the cottonfields of East and West Texas. In 1929 Wills moved to Fort Worth, where he performed on several radio stations, organized a band that became the Light Crust Doughboys, and worked for a future governor of Texas and United States senator, W. Lee O’Daniel. In 1934 Wills moved to Oklahoma, where he made radio and musical history with his broadcasts over Station KVOO. During his years in Tulsa (1934-43) he and his new group, the Texas Playboys, continued to develop the swinging western sound he had pioneered in West Texas, and his recording of his composition “New San Antonio Rose” (1940) made him a national figure in popular music. By the time of his death in 1975, he had received numerous honors, including a Grammy Award from the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences.

Not having met bunsonburner, I thought he was your alter ego. I mean there have been times when “you” disappeared without explanation and “he” shows up, “faithfully” policing the couch. And of course “he” is always posting the “where is” open comments.
Seriously has anyone seen bunsonburner? And if “you have”…… how do we really know that he is not some Hammie plant? All tooooo convenient don’t ya think.

#8 – OTL – I got to see a Bob Wills performance in the late 1960’s somewhere around here. We also ran into Arch Yancy who was a big time DJ on KIKK back then and knocked down a few brewskis with him. Bob didn’t participate much but just stood there and periodically would say something, but it was apparent then that he was on the way out. Once about every 30 minutes he would announce “here’s a little number that took us off hamburgers and put us on steaks for a while” and they would do San Antonio Rose. He was a living legend at the time – now he’s just a legend I guess.

The Coming GOP Civil War Over Climate Change?

Last summer, Michele launched a new group, Young Conservatives for Energy Reform, aimed at amassing grassroots support for lawmakers and legislation addressing clean energy and climate change. She is channeling her network of connections among the Christian Coalition and the Young Republicans.
She works closely with Brian Smith, a 32-year-old Air Force veteran and the chairman of the Midwest chapter, who is also a former cochairman of the Young Republicans National Federation, a training ground for party leaders founded in 1931. The energy group is structured like the Young Republicans, with volunteers staffing city, state, and regional chapters. So far, the group has state chairs in Florida, Georgia, Indiana, New Hampshire, Ohio, South Carolina, and Texas—all of which have Republican governors.
Over the past year, the group has held a dozen events in those and other states. In October 2012, it sponsored a get-together in Washington for GOP congressional staff. The gatherings—mostly of young professionals in their 20s, 30s, and 40s—feature hors d’oeuvres, cocktails, and a talk from retired Marine Gen. Richard Zilmer, who makes the case that both climate change and U.S. oil dependence are matters of national security, and that policies to cut fossil-fuel use are consistent with conservative values. Emanuel has also spoken at some of the events.
The goal, Michele says, is to build a database of voters who will, at some point, come forward to back Republican candidates who support cutting carbon pollution. “We are building a grassroots army of young conservatives around the country,” she says. “When the time comes, we’ll have the grassroots to organize around candidates or legislation, and we can activate them.”

    And who is Michelle?

Mother and daughter Roberta and Michele Combs are pillars of the Religious Right. Roberta, president and CEO of the Christian Coalition America, got her start in Republican politics working with celebrated strategist Lee Atwater. Michele, who was named Young Republican of the Year in 1989 and worked as a planner for events such as George W. Bush’s inauguration, is the coalition’s communications director. With their white-blond bouffant hair, penchant for fuchsia lipstick, soft South Carolina accents, and sterling conservative bona fides, the Combses are familiar presences in the ruby-red heart of the GOP establishment.

She’s been an operator in Establishment politics for 25 years.

Did any one hear the interview with Michael Berry and Kathleen Englebright this afternoon? 6 months after she filed 504 tax exempt paperwork for True the Vote in 2010, she gets audited by the IRS for both business and personal multiple times, she proceeds to get visited 6 separate times by the FBI, 2 or 3 times by the ATF, she gets visited by OSHA and EPA, and I don’t know what all else. She is a local Houston person so the problem is not simply a local Cincinnatti office issue, it is country wide and far reaching. It is not just IRS, but FBI, OSHA, EPA, BATF and who knows what other agency looking to harass those who hold to the original intent of the Constitution and the basic rule of law, AKA NOT socialist bastige Ds.
Based on SArges #55, do you think a significant portion of the rest of the LSM will wake up and start to actually investigate the treasonous behavior of the JugEared Jackass admin?

Bravo Bravissimo to the trial jurors who slogged through piles of grisly testimony and days of deliberations on 260+ charges. Now for the punishment phase…. They must be physically and emotionally exhausted. God bless them and give them strength. Glad that PA still has the death penalty.

Mixed emotions today, I had a great day yesterday, with both kids/spouses and cooking burgers for mothers day. This afternoon I went to the boy’s store to get two new tires for the old pick-um-up and he had the place running like a fine Swiss watch, he showed me the computer where they had ran 12 cars through in one hour and his in box was empty. It did get busy after I got there. That said, one of my guys at work passed away on Saturday, he was a veteran and had served in desert storm, he died of cancer about 10 months after he found out that he had it. He was a good family man and one of my best workers, always willing to jump in and do what was necessary to Get-R-Done. He will be missed. 🙁

Coincidentally (or not) Ben Rhodes’s brother, David Rhodes, is the head of CBS News.
Furthermore, Ben Rhodes is married to Ann Norris, senior foreign and defense advisor to Senator Barbara Boxer (D-California). One might with some justification expect Sen. Boxer to run interference for Ben Rhodes should investigations begin to focus on his role in the Benghazi scandal.
