Happy Hangover Ash Wednesday. The O/C pic looks like he had a hum-dinger the night before.
Oh, and firsticus ifn you don’t count TexMo at 6wissin30 this morning on yesterday’s entry. -
I can’t seem to get the daily Dilbert comic strip to pull up. . . . . .the site comes up fine, just no comic strip – dammit.
-
it’s a conspiracy

I don’t think I needed anyone to tell me this.

Wow.
At first I thought someone had dug up that old picture of me in front of the Main Gate at Fort Sill.
Then I noticed its the wrong helmet.

Reading some of the comments from this article featured on Drudge about the incineration of the Dorner, confirms that there are some real sickos out there. We know that Dorner had issues with the LAPD, HOWEVER, that does not give him cover to murder innocent family members of the people with whom he had the dispute. The LAPD burned the cabin which they believed was hiding in, it is unknown if there were any hostages with Dorner and if they were alive or not prior to the fire. There are many facts that will likely never be known about this whole episode.

According to a very old prophecy, the next pope will be known as Peter of Rome, this guy seems to fit the bill.

So Peter Turkson is satan?

They’re missing a great marketing opportunity here.

Unfortunately, they only get the slow ones. -
This guy will be voting on the next pope and, according to the article, it has some Catholics upset.

I demand an apology for the apology for the apology! -
#10: I don’t know. It is interesting how the very old prophecy seemed to accurately describe a large percentage of the popes long after it was written.
One thing that I do believe is that we earthlings are in for some incredibly rough times in the very near future. -

I’m sure they are carefully following Canon Law.
Though I tend to agree that he ought not participate, assuming he actually has that option. -
On a completely different subject, I am about to buy a couple of small voice recorders. These need to be small (pocket sized) able to hold an hour or so of recording, preferably voice activated and easy to turn on and off. Any suggestions?

Good morning Hamsters. A crisp 44 at 6 and a breeze with teeth. Neighborhood that is usually quiet has something going on in the subdivision behind ours. Our neighbor next door called about 45 minutes ago saying there were many cars around a rental home on the only street in the subdivision, the Sheriff’s department initially among them, and many people wearing vests going in and out of the house. She at first though it was DEA, but upon getting a better look through binoculars discovered it is Homeland Security (?!)
One of our neighbors works for Channel 2 and is observing the scene. No clue as to what is going on, but you never know what might be happening in a quiet neighborhood. -

Bwa Haha Ha.

Cayce’s “prophecies” were written in the 20th century. I wouldn’t consider that “very old”. I also listen to Jesus’ warning about false prophets in His name and trust the Holy Spirit to guide me. Not concerned about “end times” either:
But of that day and hour no one knoweth, not the angels of heaven, but the Father alone.

#19: Directly from the link:
Saint Malachy (1094 – November 2, 1148) was known as great prophet. While in Rome in 1139 he received a vision showing him all the Popes from his day to the end of time. According to these prophecies, only two Popes remaining after John Paul II.
St. Malachy was reported to have possessed the powers of levitation, healing, and clairvoyance. While on his way to the Vatican to assume the post of papal legate for Ireland, he fell into trance and saw a line of papal reigns stretching from the successor to Innocent II and extending through centuries to the last of the line, identified as Peter of Rome. Malachy assigned short descriptions in Latin to each pope when he committed his vision to paper. These mottoes usually refer to a family name, birthplace, coat-of-arms, or office held before election to the papacy. Some of the phrases are multiple prophecies, written with ingenious word play.
Through the centuries, his prophecies have turned out to be amazingly accurate, even prophesying the date of his death. In all, 112 popes and their characteristics are listed from 1143 to the alleged end of the world, or perhaps religion as we know it, when truth is inlay revealed about human creation and destiny.
Saint Malachy’s final words were: “Rome, the seat of the Vatican, will be destroyed and the dreadful Judge will judge the people.”
Prophecy of the Popes is a list of 112 short phrases in Latin. They purport to describe each of the Roman Catholic popes (along with a few anti-popes), beginning with Pope Celestine II (elected in 1143) and concluding with a pope described in the prophecy as “Peter the Roman”, whose pontificate will end in the destruction of the city of Rome.1139 AD is a very long time ago. The link also stated that Cayce prophesied about the popes.

I had a Panasonic one that worked well. I think it could hold about four hours. It was pretty small – 1.25″x.75″x4″-ish.
Microphone didn’t work well in a pocket, but on a table it was fine. This was about 6-7yr ago, so they’re prolly lots better now.
This one looks good. Less than $50. -

The verse right before the one you quoted is essential to understanding:35 Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will not pass away.
36 “But of that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of heaven, nor the Son, but the Father alone. When v36 was spoken HE was speaking of when Heaven and earth would pass away, not the 2nd coming. If you read more of the passage, you can see where HE switches subjects. If we were not to know at all even the season of HIS return, HE would have simply said, it is not for you to know. Instead HE gave lots of clues and end time events that would take place.

Sorry, you have prolly missed some opportunities to record paganisms that the rest of us have been woefully unaware of. -
I found a devotional that I like, and I read from it every morning. Given the non-Catholic pundits’ passion to “bring the Catholic Church into relevancy,” i.e., “make it more like us so we don’t feel guilty,” I give you yesterday’s entry:
Sin Is Lawlessness
Whoever commit sin also commits lawlessness, and sin is lawlessness. 1 John 3:4
It is a dangerous thing to live your life without a spiritual “plumb line,” or standard, by which you determine right from wrong. God’s Word is that plumb line. Spiritual laws, like physical laws, are meant to protect you, not restrict you. You may exercise your freedom to challenge the laws of electricity, but to do so can bring you death. Likewise, you will not break God’s laws, they will break you. God established absolute moral and spiritual laws that we are free to ignore, but we do so at our peril. These laws are timeless. Culture does not supersede them. Circumstances do not abrogate them. God’s laws are eternal, and they will save you from death if you follow them.
You may feel that God’s laws restrict and bind you. On the contrary, God’s Word protects you from death (Rom. 6:23). For example, when God said that you are not to commit adultery, He wanted to free you to experience the fullest pleasure of a marriage relationship. Furthermore, He knew the devastating heartache that would come to you, your spouse, your children, your relatives, your friends, and your church family if you broke this law. How important the laws of God are for your life! Without them, you would be robbed of the delights God has in store for you. Sin is choosing a standard other than God’s law on which to base your life. If you are measuring your life by that of your neighbors, or society at large, then you are basing your life on lawlessness, and lawlessness is sin.The devotional is “Experience God Day-by-Day” by Henry T. Blakaby and Richard Blackaby.
It’s not a “Catholic” devotional, but it is certainly Christian. I’ve tried other devotionals, but I found I really like this one. -
#33 M42: It is not “paganisms” for which I need the recorder; the issue is far more significant.
-
#31 – The only item unclear from my desk (or my “space shuttle” / Samsung G3 phone) is how long will that app record………….I’m limited to 12 minutes BUT that is for purposes of being able to SEND it via txt msg attachment – it may well record MUCH longer for simple playback
-
#34 TT: In the NASB New Testament, each time the word “lawlessness” is used, the corresponding Greek word is anomia, and anomia is defined as a violation of the Law of Moses.
-
#37 I have an HTC aspire phone, a year or so old, I have no idea how long it will record. I was looking at the Samsung G2 phone the other day as it has a significantly bigger screen than what I am currently using. I hate trying to text more than a line or so with this touch screen because it requires too much precision to get the correct letter. The G2 has an accessory available that is a bluetooth connected keyboard with real buttons instead of a touch screen.

According to Sen. Diane Feinstein, her looking at pictures of millions of guns makes her an expert on guns.
That she would not recoil in horror at the notion even being ascribed to her speaks volumes. That she may actually believe such absurdities is appalling.

Oh, and I got smudged this morning. If I waited to attend Mass tonight, it would have been a bilingual mass, and last year when I went at night, there was this huge surge of humanity when it came time to distribute ashes. It was utter chaos. The Anglo-German part of me wanted to make every sit down and allow lines to form, but of course I couldn’t. So I decided to go in the morning. Fewer people, less chaos.

Houston city council just passed a bill requiring fingerprints and mug shots for those who wish to sell gold or silver.
HEADLINE:Selling Gold In Houston Now Requires Fingerprinting And Mug Shot
Those selling precious metals in Houston are now considered criminals until they prove otherwise. That is essentially the crux of a bill passed by the city council requiring gold-buying businesses to photograph and fingerprint those bringing in gold to sell, photograph the items being sold and create an online database of the transactions.
Houston Police Officer Rick Barajas told the council the bill is “going to allow us the tools necessary to combat a lot of high-end jewelry thefts that going on in the city, whether it’s robberies or burglaries.”Wadyawanna bet that this will not stop any crime?

Hmm, places outside Houston buying gold and silver will pick up business and places inside Houston will lose business doing same. In the alternative if this ordinance survives court challenges or the City Council does not finally come to its senses, some of the inside Houston businesses might just move out of town, say to Bellaire, West U. Southside Place, the Memorial villages, and increase those cities’ share of the sales tax take. As for stopping crime, where do the crooks fence their stolen goods now?
Mind boggling. But then, Houston is run by Democrats. -

If we were not to know at all even the season of HIS return, HE would have simply said, it is not for you to know. Instead HE gave lots of clues and end time events that would take place.
What scripture are you reading? If YOU read even more of the passage you will see Heaven and Earth passing away and the Second Coming are part of the same, larger event.
And then the sign of the Son of Man will appear in heaven, and all the tribes of the earth will mourn, and they will see the Son of Man coming upon the clouds of heaven with power and great glory.
…
But of that day and hour no one knows, neither the angels of heaven, nor the Son, but the Father alone. For as it was in the days of Noah, so it will be at the coming of the Son of Man. In those days before the flood, they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, up to the day that Noah entered the ark. They did not know until the flood came and carried them all away. So will it be [also] at the coming of the Son of Man. -

Not that it’s “cool” that the Pope is resigning, but one of my classes which is coming up in the next few weeks is “The Church Today”. This class discusses the structure of our Church, the different offices (types of deacons, differences between priests & brothers, highest ordained office, clergy/laity, diocese/See, etc.). Included is the discussion of cardinals, bishops, and the Pope, how these offices are attained, and the process of transitioning from one Pope to another, usually through the death of the sitting Pope.
With the whole election process coming up soon, it should really catch their attention. -

I have no idea who Avik Roy is, but he gives as a shining example of current Establishment Republican Revisionist Thinking:
This “Goldwater’s defeat begat Ronald Reagan and the conservative movement” thesis is common among a certain vintage of conservative thinkers, all of whom are wiser than I. But it’s worth pointing out that the landslide defeat of Goldwater to Lyndon Johnson led to the enactment of the Great Society, and most notably, Medicare and Medicaid. In other words, the very fiscal crisis we face today — for which, at our most courageous, we recommend but modest reforms — was a direct result of the disastrous Goldwater campaign.
We may all prefer the policies of Goldwater to those of Rockefeller. But it’s at least debatable whether or not the conservative movement was better off, or worse off, for having nominated Barry Goldwater in 1964. Indeed, the 1964 election may be the most salient example of what happens when we don’t pick the most conservative candidate who can win.One of the reasons Conservatives of a “certain vintage” beleive that is because we were alive in the atmosphere in the aftermath of the Kennedy Assination and the resulting “sympathy vote” for LBJ, no human on the planet was going to beat him in 1964. That loss was not due to Goldwater’s Conservatism, and Rockefeller would have done no better.
-
Rockefeller would not have won for the reasons you state, but I don’t believe it would have been the landslide it was. Rockefeller would have carried several states in the NE that Goldwater had no chance of taking.

That Establishment types are blaming the loss soley on Goldwater’s Conservatism is part and parcel of thier current attack on thier base to retain control of the Party.

Well, Kennedy wasn’t the candidate. That’s a distinction with a difference. My disagreement was with this statement:
Rockefeller would have done no better.

It still would have been a landslide. The only state where the candidacy of Rockefeller could have conceivably made any difference would have been NY. The outcomes of any of the other states that bordered on MA certainly would not have changed, and its highly doubtful that he would have made a dent in the pre-rustbelt Unionized states.
So, it still would have been a landslide, just not the landslide that it was.68 Hamous says:

Who, exactly, in the Party was making targets of Michelle Bachman, Rick Santorum, or Sarah Palin? It certainly wasn’t the Tea Party or any other Conservative group.
Saying “The most Conservative that can get elected.” is just a pretty way of saying “Conservatives can’t get elected.”66 wagonburner says:

Until and unless conservatives develop and deliver a coherent message that your average LIV can understand AND be willing to get behind in enough number in a wide enough geographical area to swing an election, conservatism will be developing into libertarianism II.As long as Conservatives have to fight both Republicans and Democrats, thier message will be muddled with that of Smaller Big Government Republicans. The only way Conservatives can get thier message out clearly and unmuddled is to divorce themselves from the Republican Party or change the Leadership of that Party so that the Republican Party’s message is the same as the Conservatives they claim to represent.
Compare Marco Rubio’s “Republican” response to the SOTU with the “Conservative” response that Rand Paul made and you will see what I mean.
But, if it were the intent of the Republicans to drive Libertarians and the Conservatives together, they are doing am mighty fine job of it.
Which, according to a good many in the Republican Party Leadership, means they will forever be unfettered by having to pick an “electable” Conservative, and thus win elections for many years to come.
Good luck with that one. -

I have spent the evening checking addresses on a spreadsheet that belongs to a civic org whose board I am on. I took the Membership Committee and last weekend we mailed out the membership forms for annual dues. Turns out the previous 1.5 yrs, this file was in the keeping of a Nutty Woman, not even as old as I am, who was trying to sort the info w/o understanding what she was doing. Result was misalignment of many name and address columns. The mailing labels we printed came from the file she had screwed up. The young man who maintained the file prior to N.W. sent me his last copy of it which will be a guide to getting the mess cleaned up.
