Not sure what you call them, but they look like the ones in Thailand,…..Hum,…I wonder, where’s the wagonburner? 😉
-
The wagonburner is in Cypress/beautiful unincorporated Harris County.
The question could also have been “What would you call these?” -
#2, “Tree Roots?” 😀
-
Oh, and I think that the trees are figs, from over in Asia. ❓
-
Well, what do you expect from the “Man Child”
US hesitant in condemning North Korean launch.
Like I said, “we’re DOOMED!” 🙁 -

I believe Karl Denninger might be a wee bit wissed off (can Yall blame him?)
It’s a good thing the Mayan End of The World is coming in a few days, because if it was not then I’d have trouble figuring out any sort of justification for this insanity:
The APA voted Dec. 1 to approve the DSM-5, which includes a brand new mental disorder called, “Dysruptive Mood Dysregulation Disorder” (DMDD). This diagnosis will be applied to children and adolescents who show “persistent irritability and frequent episodes of behavior outbursts three or more times a week for more than a year.”
Oh really?
Dysruptice Mood Dysregulation eh?
So getting*****ed off on a frequent basis is now an excuse to drug a kid?
What if being*****ed off is entirely justified? It often is, you know. Even worse is that now this will start to show up in people’s medical charts and histories, and soon will come not only the drugs but the societal sanctions — or worse.
Many people who are angry have every reason to be angry. In fact, this sort of crap makes me so angry that I’d like to see an asteroid land on the heads of every one of the head-shrinking c%%$-gobbling monkeys that penned this garbage. -
That’s it! We take a bunch of Texpat’s little drones and drop thousands of Russian Brown frogs throughout Washington and inside a year we’re fixed!

Throw one of these in there and you’ll think you can take over the Universe while saving it from yourself. -

History of American prosperity.

The bark on them trees resemble Aspens a bit (not near as white but the grain)

We can keep wishing and hoping for a new magical party to come along and save us from the Toopardydoowopoly.

I watched the trailer for the new Star Trek movie over on BigHollywood. I saw this in the comments, and had to smile:
Is there some reason for them landing ships in SF all the time?
One would think the fines would be huge.
Who knows what toxics those things would introduce into the ‘fragile’ ecosystem. -
btw – I’m not talking about the species of the trees. Think more conceptually.
-
I think it’s more the suck is embracing us.

It looks like the tree roots have been sculpted. The first tree roots appear to have been “grown” in a frame to create the raised, straight-edged formation.
The second tree roots look like they are following the pattern in the brick below.
They are supposed to be art. I think.
There are people who sculpt tree trunks, which are impressive as well. That kind of “art” takes patience. -

You’re wrong, but thinking in the right manner.
I don’t think the growth was planned the way it turned out, btw. -
#23 TT: I tried to watch it but between Al “Tawanna Brawley” Sharpton and Harry “the croaking toad” Belafonterd I made it about 30 seconds before my inner self said: “Bonecrusher, stop watching that stoopid schizzle, there is no benefit to it” so I shut it down.

You people are not paying enough attention to Kwanzaa.

Good morning Hamsters. Another 29 and frost galore at 6. Winter is here at last and brings plenty of temporary but gorgeous sparkles on roofs and on yards/pastures. Mara and Contessa blend in with it and virtually disappear until the frost vanishes, but bay Cameo stands out wherever she goes.
Three mornings of below 32 have done in the bermuda grass in the pastures, but if we get some decent rain the winter grasses will come on and fill the voids. Just in case that doesn’t materialize sufficiently, we bought 25 more bales of hay. Plenty available now, but mindful of 2011’s drought…. -
#30 Pyro: I think TT posted a comment on your linkie:
She should be teaching anyone about respect for beliefs and religion? She’s going to burn in hell for her support of abortion. The Catholic church should have excommunicated her YEARS ago…along with any priest that serves her communion!
The commentor made an excellent point: Pelousi has been an ardent supporter of abortion and even lied about the position of the Catholic church on the issue. That she actively promotes the sin of abortion, is a iron clad bar to her receiving communion as it represents unconfessed and unrepented sin. Because she is unrepentant she should by all rights be excommunicated.
Even this former Catholic knows that much. -
Not paying enough attention to Kwanzaa? Hey, Saturnalia is a heck of a lot older festival and probably a whole lot more merry. Nobody is promoting that these days. And there was bound to have been a celebration of a new Mayan calendar way back when.
Hear that, Nancy? Or are you too busy telling Benedict 16 what Catholic teaching is about abortion and other matters of faith and morals? 🙁 -

the first pic represents ice which is water, frozen in a particular shape, the 2nd represents water when it takes its own natural course in the liquid state.

She has been excommunicated latae sententiae.

This isn’t another one of those “esoteric” trivia questions that only some half-breed from Red Dirt country is gonna get, is it? Does it involve Ok City and a movie theater?

No.

Square roots

I think the ice and water analogy is about as close as one can get, followed by the proper and improper constraints of govt. I may be a little biased.

the hole thing is way to cubist for me.

The punishment is automatic upon performing certain act/committing certain grievous sins. The punishment is effected whether the subject acknowledges it or not.
Supposition on my part, but that may be one reason for the chilly response the former Sr. Senator from Massachusetts received from BXVI to the letter he sent. Ditto what The Pelosi seems to have gotten when she met with BXVI. -

Think of more as closeness as opposed to hitting a target.

#60 Pyro: Does not excommunication dictate NO COMMUNION and the priest who administers same while understanding that the person standing before him is an excommunicant commits sin also does he not? The priest is required to refuse communion to an excommunicant is he not?
-
Unrepentent greivous sin. There is a setup for a circular firing squad if
there ever was one.
Simple -
no
The priest would not know the state of the recipient’s heart for certain. Absolution for excommunication is the similar to absolution for sin during Reconciliation. Both are done in secret. Just as they do not know if the people receiving Holy Communion are actually Catholic, they do not know who has or has not been excommunicated and if so, who may have been absolved.
Those who have been excommunicated, whether by decree or latae sententiae, bear the responsibility of avoiding all Sacraments. Knowingly participating in the Sacraments (except for the actions required to remove the excommunication) while under excommunication or an interdict is sinful in itself and simply compounds the sinfulness of that person. -
Shannon needs to head to the mall for updated work attire.

The cube roots don’t look to me like they grew there in place. More like that tree grew in a confined area, then was dug up and plopped down onto a space that could have parked a few motor scooters.

I wrote about Clint Tarver, the hot dog vendor, whose cart was destroyed by the union goons in Lansing, Michigan yesterday.
Here’s an update on the efforts to replace his equipment from Legal Insurrection’s comment section:JoAnne | December 13, 2012 at 11:25 am
The good news coming out of this? Mr. Tarver’s cart will be replaced. The American people have spoken. There has been over $27,000 raised for him by a lady named Lorilea Susanne – the GoFundMe account has been linked to Mr. Tarver’s bank account. If you would care to donate, here is the link and may God bless those who take care of each other!

Manly Honor Part V: Honor In The American South
To understand why a more primal and violent culture of honor took root in the American South, it helps to understand the cultural background of its early settlers. While the northern United States was settled primarily by farmers from more established European countries like the Netherlands, Germany, and especially England (particularly from areas around London), the southern United States was settled primarily by herdsmen from the more rural and undomesticated parts of the British Isles. These two occupations — farming and herding — produced cultures with starkly different notions of honor.
Some researchers argue that herding societies tend to produce cultures of honor that emphasize courage, strength, and violence. Unlike crops, animal herds are much more vulnerable to theft. A herdsman could lose his entire fortune in one overnight raid. Consequently, martial valor and strength and the willingness to use violence to protect his herd became useful assets to an ancient herdsman. What’s more, a reputation for these martial attributes served as a deterrent to would-be thieves. It’s telling that many of history’s most ferocious warrior societies had pastoral economies. The ancient Hittites, the ancient Hebrews, and the ancient Celts are just a few examples of these warrior/herder societies. As it happened, the Scotch-Irish settlers that poured into the Southern colonies from the late 17th century through the antebellum period were genetic and cultural descendants of the war-like and pastoral Celts. Hailing from Scotland, Ireland, Wales, Cornwall, and the English Uplands, these Scotch-Irish peoples made up perhaps half of the South’s population by 1860 (in contrast, three-quarters of New Englanders, up until the massive influx of Irish immigrants in the 1840s, were English in origin). As the Celtic-herdsmen theory goes (and it is not without its critics), their influence on Southern culture was even larger than their numbers. These rough and scrappy Scotch-Irish immigrants not only brought with them their ancestors’ penchant for herding, but also imported their love of whiskey, music, leisure, gambling, hunting, and…their warrior-bred, primal code of honor.

If anyone is interested in further reading on this subject, I highly recommend James Webb’s Born Fighting: How the Scots-Irish Shaped America. It’s an excellent read.
(Although Webb is the former meshuggeneh Democratic senator from Virginia, he did manage to write a fine book in this one.) -
Adee, perhaps exploring Viking influence on the Euros would go beyond the scope of the subject at hand.

OK, This is sick; Frank Billingsley gets married.
Years ago, my daughter mentioned this guy and I said “I don’t watch the Gay weather guy” and she said “he’s not gay”, I just said, OK… -

From the Chronicle
Longtime Houston weatherman Frank Billingsley called his New York City wedding ceremony to his 17-year partner Wednesday “fairly traditional.”
-
They still aren’t considered married when they get back to Texas, so I don’t see what has been accomplished.
-
My husband looked at Pyro’s tree roots pix and opined that the 3-D root mass looked like there had been a low wall around it, now removed, but with the root snarl retaining much of the soil inside. Amazing if the tree was happy after that. But we can’t see if it has healthy leaves up above in this shot.
I have a similar situation upcoming in my back yard, where I had a pine tree growing in a 12-in high black plastic nursery pot. I was trying 15 years ago to make it a bonzai pine by heavy trimming and binding. About 5 years ago I couldn’t find time to keep up with that, and started just doing mass clipping if a branch grew out too long or up too high. Now it is clear the tree has torn out the bottom of the pot and has sunk roots in the ground. Eventually the sides of the pot will have to be cut away and I don’t know if the tree will survive having 12″ of exposed roots in the air. -
They still aren’t considered married when they get back to Texas, so I don’t see what has been accomplished.
As far as NBC, the Chron and a sizable percentage of the viewers/readers are concerned they are and that is what has been accomplished. It is an “in your face” move towards those that believe that a marriage is between a man and a woman. It also lays the groundwork for a battle in thew state of Tejas for recognition of out of state marriages. Just watch what happens next.

Forget John Kerry.
It looks like Chuck Hagel is the inside shot for Secretary of State…maybe.
From the Republican Jewish Coalition:A report from Reuters has now confirmed what Foreign Policy‘s Josh Rogin had discovered last month – that President Obama is considering former Senator Chuck Hagel for a top national security post, likely Secretary of Defense.
Rogin reported that Hagel was “being vetted.” Presumably, that vetting process includes consultations with a range of interested parties. And presumably, that includes pro-Israel advocates. Let’s hope that anyone on the receiving end of such a query responds forthrightly that for the President to elevate Hagel to a position of trust would be construed as a gesture of indifference – if not outright contempt – toward Jewish Americans and every American who supports a strong U.S.-Israel alliance. -
