Well here’s your hope and change; IRS aims to clarify investment income tax under healthcare law.

(Reuters) – The Internal Revenue Service has released new rules for investment income taxes on capital gains and dividends earned by high-income individuals that passed Congress as part of the 2010 healthcare reform law.
The 3.8 percent surtax on investment income, meant to help pay for healthcare, goes into effect in 2013. It is the first surtax to be applied to capital gains and dividend income.
The tax affects only individuals with more than $200,000 in modified adjusted gross income (MAGI), and married couples filing jointly with more than $250,000 of MAGI.

The AAA says the Environmental Protection Agency and gasoline retailers should halt the sale of E15, a new ethanol blend that could damage millions of vehicles and void car warranties.
AAA, which issued its warning today, says just 12 million of more than 240 million cars, trucks and SUVs now in use have manufacturersโ€™ approval for E15. Flex-fuel vehicles, 2012 and newer General Motors vehicles, 2013 Fords and 2001 and later model Porsches are the exceptions, according to AAA, the nationโ€™s largest motorist group, with 53.5 million members.
โ€œIt is clear that millions of Americans are unfamiliar with E15, which means there is a strong possibility that many may improperly fill up using this gasoline and damage their vehicle,โ€ AAA President and CEO Robert Darbelnet tells USA TODAY. โ€œBringing E15 to the market without adequate safeguards does not responsibly meet the needs of consumers.โ€

Love the cartoon. Our neighborhood streets have large trees on either side, which arbor over the street. The JWs love our neighborhood for this reason, and they can often be seen, walking down our streets in twos and threes. And by often, I mean sometimes once a week, with gusts of twice a week.
I wonder if the other, hotter neighborhoods get this much attention.

Environmentalists blockade themselves inside pipe for the Keystone Pipeline.
From the (rather harsh) comments OR “How Do You Extract an Eco Terrorist from Inside a Cylindrical Self-Imposed Prison – or Do You?”:

Now is a perfect time to turn that thing on.

They should have just gone ahead and buried the section of pipe and built a by-pass around it. Problem solved.

Stuff a skunk in the other end and video the exit!!LOL

First flush them out with a combination of tear gas and vomiting agent. Wait until those who hold out are so dehydrated they are unable to resist. Spray out the mess with high pressure ice cold water, remove them forcably, fine them for the cost of the enforcement action, force them to pay 5 fold restitution to the pipeline company and if they refuse restitution, 10 years on a chain gang paving blacktop streets in El Paso in summer and shoveling snow in Ankorage during the winter months. Nothing short of these measures will end this eco-terrorism.

These radicals are emboldened because they are not afraid to perform the asinine acts, because liberals have created the rules of engagement. Evac the air in the pipe to knock them out. Then remove at your leisure.

Fire a pig down the line. The pipeline guys will do that anyway as part of the testing. Might as well do a pre-test.
Also fun would be to pump a bit of propane into one end (shouldn’t take too much) and light it. Flaming hippies will shoot out the other end in short order.

ven though Aldosaryโ€™s identity was known to news agencies on Friday after his arrest, national and international media outlets, such as CNN and Reuters which published reports late Friday night, noted his arrest but not his identity. And none but local media have reported Aldosaryโ€™s name ever since.
Now imagine if a Tea Partier โ€” or even someone who shared the same name as a Tea Partier โ€“ had fire bombed a federal facility less than a month after Barack Obamaโ€™s reelection. Anyone think it would be getting more media coverage?
UPDATED (8:25p EDT): I just spoke again with my contact in the FBI Phoenix field office (who is not authorized to speak on behalf of the FBI office). This contact said that it is highly unlikely that Aldosary will be charged with any terrorism offense. While they are internally treating it like a domestic terrorism investigation, including looking at if he had any help constructing the explosive device, the FBI is saying very little and will prosecute this as a simple explosives and arson case because of โ€œthe political sensitivities involved.โ€

Carl G. Cromwell, ignoring orders, brings in world’s deepest oil well
    December 04, 1928
On this day in 1928, Carl G. (the Big Swede) Cromwell drilled the world’s deepest oil well. In the wake of his 1923 success with the famed Santa Rita No. 1, Cromwell had become drilling superintendent of the Texon Company’s rapidly expanding field on University of Texas land in Reagan County. He also acquired his own leases and became known as an honest, generous, free-spirited wildcatter. In association with company engineer Clayton W. Williams, Cromwell experimented in drilling deeper than the average 3,000 feet. In 1926 Williams located a site and Cromwell’s crews began work. In late November 1928, because of mounting expenses and problems, Cromwell was directed to shut down. Instead, he disregarded orders, went into hiding, and kept drilling. On December 4, at 8,525 feet, University 1-B came in. It remained the world’s deepest oil well until 1931, the same year in which Cromwell died in an automobile accident.

Boehner, GOP Leaders Purge Conservatives from Powerful Committees
by Matthew Boyle 3 Dec 2012 132 post a comment
    UPDATE: Boehner Scoffs
UPDATE: Boehner Spokesman Kevin Smith responds- “The Steering Committee makes decisions based on a range of factors.”
House Speaker John Boehner and GOP leadership have removed several conservative House members from their respective powerful committee positions, Breitbart News has learned.
Effective next Congress, leadership pulled Kansas Republican Rep. Tim Huelskamp, Michigan Republican Rep. Justin Amash and Arizona Republican Rep. David Schweikert off committees from which they could exert conservative pressure on fiscal matters. Amash and Huelskamp were pulled from the Budget Committee and Schweikert from the Financial Services Committee.
Huelskamp, a freshman elected during the 2010 tea party wave, thinks the leadership move to pull him from the powerful committee is revenge for him standing up for conservatism. โ€œIt is little wonder why Congress has a 16 percent approval rating: Americans send principled representatives to change Washington and get punished in return,โ€ Huelskamp said in a Monday night statement. โ€œThe GOP leadership might think they have silenced conservatives, but removing me and others from key committees only confirms our conservative convictions. This is clearly a vindictive move, and a sure sign that the GOP Establishment cannot handle disagreement.”

NYT is a little upset that businesses are moving to Texas.
They are upset that our wages are lower and our poverty rate is higher.
    Well, duh.
We don’t like unions here, which drive up wages, which drives up the cost of living. Plus, we have a large number of illegals or just-legals here who are willing to work for lower wages. And if we could stop that flood of illegals from coming over the border, our poverty rate would probably drop. Wages might go up, but then there’d be jobs for all those welfare recipients, who are just waiting for job openings to come up for them. /sarc off

Perry acknowledged the stateโ€™s poverty level, saying, โ€œwe are going to have people that fall through the cracks.โ€ But he responded the best way to ameliorate that problem was to create jobs; Texans, he said, โ€œdonโ€™t want government assistance when they can do it themselves.โ€

Got that right. The best social program is a job. Heard that this morning.

A step in the right direction.

The USDA is now considering biometric identification for all individuals who will want to benefit from their Food and Nutrition Services. The RFID chip may just soon be a must for everyone who does not want to starve!
    /snip
Biometric identification technology provides automated methods to identify a person based on physical characteristicsโ€”such as fingerprints,…โ€”including signatures and voice patterns.
Biometric identification systems are currently operational at some level in Arizona, California (under county initiative, first by Los Angeles County), Connecticut, Illinois, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, and Texas. Finger imaging is the principal form of technology used in all eight States, …
    From the USDA
A small number of duplicate applications (approximately 1 duplicate for every 5,000 cases) have been detected by finger imaging systems….Additional matches have been found by interstate comparisons of finger-image data.
Institution of a finger-imaging requirement can produce a significant, short-term reduction in caseload, because some existing clients refuse to comply with the requirement. The number of refusals depends on the implementation procedures and appears to be lower when finger imaging is incorporated into the recertification process.

    Next up, drug testing.

Today I stuck my toe in the water and did see where Scary Harry Reid is planning on filibuster reform. I assumed it was the so-called “nuclear option” that the Pubbies threatened a while back. Turns out I was wrong. First, what they call a filibuster these days is not what it was originally. Back in the late ’70s they all got together and decided that they would change the rules so that the mere threat of a filibuster would kill legislation from moving forward, without having to actually get up and filibuster “Mr.-Smith-Goes-To-Washington” style. That’s pure laziness. They SHOULD have to get up and actually filibuster to demonstrate their conviction to the issue! So I find myself agreeing with Harry Freaking Reid. That’s how messed up politics are these days. Change the rules, Harry!

HEADLINE: Egypt’s Mursi leaves palace as police battle protesters
(Reuters) – Egyptian police battled thousands of protesters outside President Mohamed Mursi’s palace in Cairo on Tuesday, prompting the Islamist leader to leave the building, presidency sources said.
Officers fired teargas at up to 10,000 demonstrators angered by Mursi’s drive to hold a referendum on a new constitution on December 15. Some broke through police lines around his palace and protested next to the perimeter wall.
The crowds had gathered nearby in what organizers had dubbed “last warning” protests against Mursi, who infuriated opponents with a November 22 decree that expanded his powers. “The people want the downfall of the regime,” the demonstrators chanted.

It seemsl like the move towards an islamist theocracy in Egypt is not a forgone conclusion. The people are not happy about the prospect at all. Morsi may be the pharoah wannabe with the shortest reign.

I knew I couldn’t let her get wet or all heck would break loose, so I was careful to keep her covered, dry, and comforted as much as possible. She was sticking her head out every now and then to look around at the noise, but the moisture from the blowing rain drove her back under pretty quickly. On one of her periscope moves, there was a lightning strike pretty close by, possibly the airport, with the accompanying thunder. She freaked out. I rushed her back in the house, still under blanket. As soon as she could, she exited the blanket under my chin, crawled up to my shoulder, and made the leap to the couch, from which she ran to her room.

That was something. I love Mullins’ music, and the song he sang is one I have on his “Jesus” album. I can tell that it was still a work in progress on this video, because the words were changed slightly.
He had such a great message, too.
    He’s missed.

Late to the party. We got 0.30″ from about 1 to 3:30 this afternoon, nothing heavy just steady. Plenty of lightning and thunder–some of it close by–but no hail. Since our entire November total was only 0.20″ we are grateful for today’s amount. No puddles other than on the driveway.
