Weekend Uisge Beatha Open comments

One of the more difficult aspects of enjoying the more subtle aspects of the essence of barley malt (alternatively known as “Hebridean Mouthwash”) is pronouncing the particular variety you wish to sample.
The fine people at Esquire have enlisted the services of Brian Cox to help us out. (follow the link to hear them; I can only get the first to play here)

For the record, My favorites are (in order):
Laphroaig and Lagavulin (tie)
Ardbeg
The Highland scotches are ok; lowland are a little too light-bodied for me. The ones above are Islay scotches; I also like Campbelltown and the other island malts. There’s nothing like the medicinal quality of iodine combined with the body of kerosene, seasoned with a healthy dose of peat smoke.
Yum.
PS: If you’re ever in Houma, stay at the Holiday Inn. Their bartendresses don’t seem to know how big a “double” should be. Witness:

Three-and-a-half fingers. That’s a drink.
