Well, Hubby and I are about to leave to take a day trip to somewhere today. I thought my buddies would open the door for you guys, but I guess they’re slacking off. Fortunately, we came back home after eating breakfast before leaving.
So, come on in, make your own tea, clear off the newspapers, and push Barf Kitty aside (just don’t hurt her). I’m warning you, she’s feeling particularly needy. Somebody pet her or she’ll be crying all day.
No open flames, spray paint, exposed bone, or blood while I’m gone.

Good morning again, Hamsters. From clear and 75 at 6 with no breeze and bearable humidity we have graduated to increasing overcast with an occasional light breeze dancing through, ruffling the banners on the front porch, and then on its merry way. Change is in the air, and the breeze picks up. The front is on the way and is most welcome. Would be nice if some rain came with it.
Wow, first. -

In RemembranceHurricane devastates Galveston
September 08, 1900
On this day in 1900, a catastrophic hurricane struck the city of Galveston on the Texas coast. A third of the city was destroyed, and 6,000 to 8,000 people died. Galveston Island was completely inundated. Property loss was estimated at $30 million. The storm is considered the worst recorded natural disaster ever to strike the North American continent. -

White House to miss deadline for report on ‘fiscal cliff’ budget cuts
By Erik Wasson – 09/07/12 01:37 PM ET
The White House on Friday said it will miss the legal deadline for delivering a report to Congress on the spending cuts from sequestration that are scheduled to take effect in 2013.
Spokesman Jay Carney told reporters on Air Force One that the report will be coming next week.
Under the terms of the Sequestration Transparency Act signed in August, President Obama was to tell Congress by Friday how the administration plans to implement the $109 billion in automatic cuts mandated by the Budget Control Act.
The Office of Management and Budget has repeatedly failed to make legal deadlines. It delivered its presidential budget proposals and mid-session updates late both this year and last year.http://thehill.com/blogs/on-the-money/budget/248213-white-house-will-miss-fiscal-cliff-deadline

Exports are making refineries profitable again. Gotta keep the price of gasoline up.
The volume of fuel and other petroleum products exported from the United States has more than doubled since 2006. Nearly 3 million barrels were shipped across U.S. borders each day last year, compared with less than 1.3 million barrels five years earlier.

That would be the Budget Control Act of 2011 that mandates spending increase cuts in the Department of Defense. Panetta and the JCS were pretty annoyed at this one. Both Cornyn, and Hutchison voted for it and of course, Representative Paul Ryan.
It appears the administration is attempting to make it as painless as possible on the nation’s defense and service members, I’m willing to give them a couple more weeks. -
But the President says they are the reason he ran for office.
This Wednesday, three of the five Occupy activists arrested for attempting to blow up a commuter bridge in Ohio in May pled guilty to use of a weapon of mass destruction, attempted use of a weapon of mass destruction, and attempted use of an explosive device to destroy property used in interstate commerce.. The Wall Street Journal reports:
Two 20-year-old suburban Cleveland men, Connor Stevens of Berea and Brandon Baxter of Lakewood, and Douglas Wright, 26, of Indianapolis, pleaded guilty to three-count indictments in back-to-back appearances in U.S. District Court. A fourth man pleaded guilty earlier, and the fifth defendant faces trial after a defense-requested psychiatric exam.
Prosecutors said they calculated the three men could face 30 years to life in prison, based on the seriousness of the crimes. There was no plea deal, and U.S. Attorney Steven Dettelbach said a sentence recommendation would be made later.
I attended the “Occupy the Truth for Peace and Justice” rally held in Cleveland in honor of Andrew Breitbart August 20 to bring attention to the widespread media coverup of the mens’ connection to Occupy. “Hating Breitbart” producer Andrew Marcus, who organized the rally, has documented their connections to Occupy as well as how the media continues to cover up the violence that continues to be embraced in the Occupy community. The rally gathered Tea Party activists from all over the country to demand accountability for the media’s complicity in covering up the Occupy members’ attempted terrorism. -

No, the Administration is doing its best to avoid making any kind of decision.
It took a lot of people from both parties to kick the can down the road and not do anything. Obama is an NFL-caliber can kicker. -
Actually the party that prides itself on obstructionism had to reject every fiscal principle that the tea party movement hold as gospel to support this act. That now they are waffling on their responsibility for this debacle is pretty much par for the course.
This is a game of finesse and crisis management. After the election, it will be dealt with. -

Everybody laughs at the artist.And:
Fox News has responded: “FOX News Channel’s use of an R.E.M. song during Thursday’s edition of Fox & Friends was in full accordance with its license agreements with all appropriate parties. Nevertheless, we’re always flattered to have this much attention for a song selection and we hope R.E.M. was able to satisfy their publicity fix.”

It’s the media’s fault. Unless one watches NBC, ABC, CBS, Houston Chronicle or any of the other media outlets that are clearly not part of the Main Street Media.
Yep, the Tea Party groups have got their fingers on the pulse of America -

From last night SD:
When daughter turned 16, I got her a 1998 Z 28,
Wow! When I turned 16 I was only able to skipper the 1972 Pontiac Grand Safari Station Wagon. That was more boat than car, 455ci, 2 bbl carb and single exhaust, it got 10-12 mpg no matter what you were doing, stong enough to pull a house down, top speed 116mph and not one bit faster:>) I think my dad KNEW that I was the adventurous sort and would push any car past its limits, he was right.
-
Have you ever experienced a power slide in a 1972 Pontiac Grand Safari station wagon, its kinda fun in a hair raising sort of way.
-
Stop feeding the ‘roidish troll.

Not as exciting as suddenly sliding backwards down a country road in Oklahoma at 60mph in a Toyota pickup.
Black ice. -
I had a 64 Dart.
-
And a 51 Chevy. Original flat head six. Steering wheel as big as a hula hoop.
-
’66 GTO with a 428 was my 1st car until 2 guys racing down Kempwood punted into my buddy’s front lawn from where it was (legally) parked on the street and totalled it. Got a ’67 Camaro with a 327 after that. Those were the days when kids could afford such things.
-
#26 Those were the days when one could actually do some work on the car without a computer engineering degree. Everything was visible and straight forward, one could look to the side of the engine and see ground, if you dropped a wrench it almost always landed on the floor below, now if you drop something smaller than a socket it is likely gone forever. With all the plumbing and wiring now days, it is hard to even see the engine (sitting in the bay friggin sideways!) and without a puter, trying to adjust something is wissin near impossible.
-
On the good side of newer cars: One doesn’t have to change the spark plugs but every 100,000 miles or so instead of every 12,000; no points or condenser to set and the timing adjusts automatically, as does the fuel injection. New cars get more horsepower and torque out of a smaller package using less fuel with way less maintenance and do not pollute as much. They are inherently so much cleaner now than then, I wonder if catalytic converters are really needed anymore.
-
And I really like the serpentine belt, one belt that drives everything and tension is held with a spring loaded idler pulley.

#32 How is Lil’ Crusher fairing with his ride? I hope it is still road worthy.
-
#34 TexMo: Thanks for asking. Headcrusher’s ride is getting a little mushy/twitchy at highway speeds. Because of this, he never goes over 65 which is ok with me. NO burning of oil, but he did notice the tranny was low on fluid. I think it may be due for shocks. How long has it been since they were replaced?
-
#35 Bonecrusher, it has been a while. I do not remember if it was done at 120k, but that is what popped into my head first. You are right about it getting squirrelly at highway speeds. Sounds like a good afternoon job for a young man.

I’m home from my road trip with Hubby today. It was nice just being in the car and driving somewhere. We used to take impromptu road trips all the time, and the last one we planned several months ago got canceled when I became a little sick to my stomach fro about 5 days.
We went to breakfast with Handsome, then came home (whereupon I unlocked the door and let y’all onto the Couch), grabbed a few things, then hit the road. We drove to Palacious, stopping along the way to look at a small park/boat ramp on the Colorado River. That was a really steep boat ramp – it wouldn’t take much for a whole rig to go sliding in. We went on to Palacious and drove around. If I had been with Lovely, I’m sure we would have stopped to go into a few stores and such, just to explore, but since I was with Hubby, we just tootled around near the water. I got my camera and took a few pictures, then we hit the road again.
We drove to Lake Texana next, just to see what was there, and took a quick tour around Texana State Park. We were impressed with the number of barbecue pits, comfort stations, and water spigots around the park. No pictures there, as there wasn’t any wildlife. It was also devoid of humans, which seemed strange. It was a nice park. Perhaps it was the sign admonishing visitor not to harass or get too close to the alligators.
Leaving there, we circled back towards Houston, swinging by Sweeny. Since we have property there, we thought we’d look at the town, too. After driving through, we went to West Columbia for a late lunch/early dinner. Since we hadn’t eaten since morning, we were both hungry, and Baytown Seafood there has great food. We ate seafood and then came home.
It was a good trip. I enjoyed having time with my Hubby. I hope I get to do this again soon. -

Police arrested the then-32-year-old pastor in 2009 when he publicly protested the constitutionality of compulsory Islamic education for Iranian children.
It’s difficult for Americans to believe that there are countries that are governed by religious fiats compelling the children of its citizenry to pray in mandatory state run schools.
Most certainly a lesson learned to keep religion and their deities out of the government. -
Just heard the Ags lost to FLA.
Bummer. -
There’s a difference between:
– mandating a state religion, and killing or imprisoning those who refuse to participate, and
– praying in schools (where a student could easily refuse to participate)
Our founding father didn’t want a state imposed religion, like the Church of England. Or Islam, in Iran.
If you can’t get that, then you are not as smart as I have given you credit for. -
This has been kicking around for a couple days. A hacker group claims to have lifted Governor Romney’s tax returns and sent them to the news and the Democrat and Republican parties. It smells like a hoax, but the buggers have been persistent.

GSA/NASA has a program for giving away space artifacts to eligible school. I don’t know how well the program works or intercede if there is a SNAFU, but the program is legit. If anyone’s associated with an educator it may be worth a try.

This is an interesting development. Larry Flynt of Hustler Magazine fame is offering a million dollars for Governor Romney’s tax returns. IIRC he made a similar offer during the Clinton Impeachment circus for evidence of marriage infidelity among the President’s accusers. It is rumored he had evidence against 11 Senators/Representatives.
The Hustler founder is offering a $1 million reward for information on Mitt Romney’s taxes, AdWeek reports. Flynt, an outspoken critic of Romney, is taking out two full page ads in Sunday’s issues of USA Today and The Washington Post to publicize the offer.

Reason #179 not to live in South Africa
Marlene Swart and Leon Swanepoel were on holiday in Kruger National Park when a 16ft-long python shot out of the grass and disappared under their car.
When the stubborn snake refused to reappear Marlene, 38 and Leon, 51, both from Brits, South Africa were forced to endure a three-mile journey to the nearest look-out with the python hitching a ride.
And when they arrived, a crowd looked on as the relieved couple managed to coax the cheeky reptile out of the engine. This never happens in the Everglades

Speaking of indecipherable manuscripts, 100 years ago a dealer in old books Wilfrid M. Voynich acquires a number of priceless mediaeval manuscripts from an undisclosed location in Europe. Among these is a parchment codex of 234 pages, written in an unknown script.
To this day, not one word has been deciphered. Personally I thinks it’s a hoax.Voynich took the MS to the United States and started a campaign to have its text deciphered. Now, almost 100 years later, the Voynich manuscript still stands as the most elusive enigma in the world of cryptography. Not a single word of this ‘Most Mysterious Manuscript’, written probably in the first half of the 15th Century, can be understood.

Good morning Hamsters. Snoopy Happy Dance: 62 this morning at 6:30. Windows are open and fresh air drifts through the house until it gets too hot this afternoon. Busy cleaning the cobwebs and dust off the sills between the screens and windows, with great plans for tidying up the flowerbeds and outdoor stuff while this blessed cool spell lasts. Wake up Hamsters. The blog has temporarily lost consciousness and needs revival. This absolutely glorious day is winding down, humidity creeping up, and we look forward to another cool night and morning.
Glorious does not describe the Packer-49ers game, however. Packers lost 30-22 and did not look all that sharp. The fill-in officiating team did not either, and in fact seemed not ready for prime time for either side. 🙁 Apparently the regulars are on strike, and if it isn’t settled soon there will be serious complaints from all directions. -
Saw that Ms Adee, no officiating complaints from the Texans game except one reception not ruled a catch for a touchdown by replay that I thought was a catch but the same happened for the Dolphins later so it evened out. Go Texans! Not pretty but it’ll work.

Bonecrusher,
Wow! When I turned 16 I was only able to skipper the 1972 Pontiac Grand Safari Station Wagon.
My frist car was a hand me down 1958 Plymouth station wagon with a flat head 6, top speed about 85, and it took a loong time to get that huge beast going that fast. I got it when I was 12 and was only allowed to drive it on the dirt roads around my house in Alabama. When I turned 15, I got amother hand me down, 1963 Chevy II station wagon with a 194 CID overhead valve 6, it had a 4:11 rear end and would get up and go pretty good.
-
#25 Shannon
And a 51 Chevy. Original flat head six. Steering wheel as big as a hula hoop.
Not wishing to be a smart A$$ but the 51 Chevy only came with an overhead valve inline 6, I don’t think that Chevy EVER made a flat head. I know that they had over head valve I6’s before Ford welded two of their flat head 4’s together to make a flat head V 8, 1933-35 I think. The 6 cylinder Chevys had more HP than the flat V8’s because they were able to raise the compression ratio. The flat head engine is limited on how much compression because the odd shape of the combustion chamber causes “Hot Spots” that can lead to detonation.
Also Chevy came out with their first OHV V-8 in 1955, a 265 CID that was bored out in 1956 to make the 283. In the early 60’s 63, I think it was bored an stroked to make the great 327, then the 350/400 smallblocks. -
I got all the chichen $hinola fertilizer watered in so that should really take care of most of the smell.
-
Super Dave, I still have a soft spot for my first vehicle. ’70 Chevy P/U with a 350.

So today Wagon was a cool sissy?

Yesterday while working at the store I saw a transgendered couple. Dude came in with a sheer top over his/her DD cup breasts… there was nothing left to the imagination. His/her partner is what I would have called a dyke in the old days. I don’t know what the PC term is these days. Her hair was buzzed short and she was wearing a tank top and cargo shorts.
I was trying really hard to NOT try and figure out what goes on behind closed doors. However, I am curious by nature… and I have a good imagination. -

We went up to the deer lease Saturday morning and got back around 2 today. Sadly my #1 huntin’ buddy got sick Friday night and couldn’t go, he had some kind of really bad stomach virus so I went down to his house and hooked the 4-wheeler trailer up to my truck and went without him. Son-in-law left from Pecan Grove and we both got there around 11:00. Anywho we had a great weekend, got a lot of work done moving stands and cutting/clearing up all the mess from the IDIOT loggers. The weather was nice, high of 82 and DRY on Saturday, 68 @ 7 PM and 57 when we got up this AM. After we ate our burgers and beans we both took a quick navy shower in cold water about 9:30 and jumped on the 4 wheelers to go look for hogs. We got back about 11:30 and hit the sack. Didn’t do much this morning and left early. I got back and washed the trailer and my 4X4 and took my buddy’s 4X4 home, (we didn’t take it off the trailer). Around 4:30 I was finally getting into the shower when the boy showed up so I could put freon in his GMC Denali Pick Up. Then he had to drive the 4 wheeler and he and his bride left around 6. I finally got my shower around 7 and then ate supper.

I watched the 60 Mins interview of the Navy Seal who wrote “No Easy Day.” Not addressed was the discrepancy between his account of how and when Bin Laden was shot, and that made public by the administration soon after the event.
-
The Pentagon talked to the folks present and there are discrepancies between the stories. They may be explained by the author being late on the scene and speculating what had occurred before he entered the room. The Pentagon has also briefed the parents of the American captive that the book discloses that the hunt is on for their son and the tactics that are being used.
Senior Pentagon officials, who declined to speak for attribution because of the sensitivity of the matter, told CNN they have now concluded Bissonnette was wrong.
Bin Laden, they said, was standing in the room when the SEALs entered and they shot him, believing he posed a direct threat, given there were weapons in the room. ….
The officials CNN spoke with said it was possible Bissonnette, who was a few seconds behind the lead SEAL, never saw bin Laden standing. The parents of Army Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl were briefed on Thursday by the military about the book’s contents because it contains several pages in which the author says he was on a secret mission to rescue their son. …
“We are still searching for Bowe Bergdahl and any public discussion of our ongoing efforts is not helpful,” one senior U.S. official said. -
