Yesterday, gtotracker complained that drag racing was not an Olypmic sport. This shortfall has now been remedied.
In this picture, we see Stefán Goldberg of the United States narrowly edge out Gætan Mnðfasnø of Cameroon for the Gold Medal in the inaugural Drag Racing competition in the Olympics. Coming in third was Mönröë Gåstagnê of France (far left) after Michele Fontìína of Switzerland (second from right #7) was disqualified for unsightly facial and body hair.

Mitt Romney gave an excellent speech in Isreal:
VIDEO: Mitt Romney Delivers Poignant Policy Speech in Jerusalem
He acknowledged Jerusalem as Isreal’s capital, the united States’ resolve to forever stand with Isreal; the common devotion to democracy and individual freedom, that both nations know said freedom is from God, not governmnet; that both the US and Isreal envoke the wrath of the same enemy, (an enemy to to civilization), and Romney honored the Isreali athletes killed furing the olympic games. At the end end of his speech, Mitt Romney invoked the blessings of God upon the US and Isreal.

Yes, Ted Cruz for Texas
If you’re a looser like me and have not early voted, be sure to vote Tuesday. -
Last night at 10:30 PM, PPP tweeted the impending release of the only current independent poll on the Cruz-Dewhurst race.
Professor Jacobson at Legal Insurrection comments:Update: PPP’s analysis now is posted here. PPP has been pretty good at polling elections, even though it is a Democratic polling firm and works for Daily Kos, but I’m not a big fan of its spin, so take the spin with a grain of salt:
… Cruz’s victory is driven by 4 things: the Tea Party, the enthusiasm of his supporters, a generational divide within the Texas Republican ranks, and the lack of regard the party base currently holds for Rick Perry.
Cruz is ahead by a whooping 75-22 margin with Tea Party voters, more than making up for a 56-39 deficit to Dewhurst with voters who don’t consider themselves members of that movement. There has been too much of a tendency to ascribe any Republican primary upset over the last few years to Tea Party voters, but this is one case where it’s well justified.
Cruz has a 63-33 advantage with voters who describe themselves as ‘very excited’ about voting in Tuesday’s runoff election. He also has a 49-45 advantage with those describing themselves as ‘somewhat excited.’ The only reason this race is even remotely competitive is Dewhurst’s 59-31 lead with voter who say they’re ‘not that excited’ about voting. It’s an open question whether those folks will really show up and if they don’t it’s possible Cruz could end up winning by closer to 20 points.
-
Dan Patrick was saying all last week that proof the election was going to be super close was both camps were being very quiet about the polling. Yeah, I see why now. Doesn’t mean the polls are right, but you know these numbers were what they were seeing.
-
What these polls mean is that there may still be a chance to save this nation, but you must get out and vote. For us in Tejas, this is the most important choice we will have to make for some time to come – to demonstrate to the rest of the country that conservatism is not dead and also that it works.

About the whining, hissy-fit, hysteria on the Left regarding Romney’s visit to Israel and HaKotel HaMa’aravi.
A previous Mormon, a young missionary, made the same visit 99 years ago. He went on to spearhead an effort to save more than 200,000 Jewish refugees in Europe despite the strenuous efforts of FDR and Secretary of State Cordell Hull to stop him.
From Rafael Medoff, director of the David S. Wyman Institute for Holocaust Studies:But another Mormon’s visit to Jerusalem, 99 years ago, deserves some of the spotlight too. Because that little-known visit ultimately had a decisive impact on Jewish history and America’s response to the Holocaust.
In 1913, 29-year-old Elbert Thomas and his wife, Edna, wrapped up their five-year stint in charge of a Mormon mission in Japan and prepared to return to their native Utah. They decided to pay a short visit to Turkish-occupied Palestine on the way home.and later,
Thomas played a key role in advancing a Bergson-initiated congressional resolution calling for creation of a government agency to rescue Jews from the Nazis. Sen. Tom Connally (D-Texas), chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, initially blocked consideration of the resolution. But when Connally took ill one day, Thomas, as acting chair, quickly introduced the measure. It passed unanimously.

[Dewhurst’s] views — though perhaps not his temperament — would make him an ideal candidate to represent a state such as Maine, where the only other option would be a Democrat to his left. But a strong conservative can win in Texas, and we have one in Ted Cruz.
Heh. -
A 20 point win by Cruz would be stunning.
Not a slap in Patrick’s face, but a crushing roundhouse right. -
I guess Dewcrist’s polltical career may be over after all. Underestimating the Tea Party cost him dearly financially and will result in a humiliating defeat that will have political ramifications that will reverberate for several years.
To the Republican Establishment:
There’s blood in the water. Don’t find yourself on the wrong side of the chum bucket.
1. Pass the Santuary City Bill. The Bill should be written before the start of the next session, the same Bill should be offered to both Houses simultaneously within 24 hours of the start of the Session, and should be voted on within 48 hours after submission. No more excuses, no more legislative tricks designed to enable you to blame somebody else. We will blame everybody the same way we blamed David Dewhurst—failure of the Sanctuary City Bill to pass is what brought him down.
2. Pass the TSA Bill. We don’t care how many elitist pogues tell us how stupid it is. The Agency is out of control and the checks and balances provided at the Federal level are failing us. We need to avail oursleves of the only check that remains available to us: the State Legislatures. This is not the only instance where this check on expanding Federal power should be used, but it is the one that will garner the most attention and reap the greatest Liberty rewards.
3. Bring us the political head of Joe Strauss. Had you not treated us so badly two years ago, this wouldn’t have been neessary, but Strauss is cut from the same cloth that Dewcrist is. He went after some of our people and didn’t get them, but we got 4 of his. Who wants to be next?
Do those things right away and you may survive what’s coming. Ignore us, fight us, insult us, or use the kind of tactics against us that Strauss and Dewcrist did and we will make it our mission to take you down in as humiliating a manner as we possibly can. Save your vitriol and nastiness for Democrats. -
#10 Shannon:

#11 Sarge: If Dew(VSR) gets his head handed to him in the runoff tomorrow, I think his political career is over as well. There will be more than one or two who will run for his office, that is now guaranteed; the big question is will he now, after he loses tomorrow, simply resign and go the wiss away as the disgrace he is?
-
The TSA bill is never going to be passed. Period.
And give me a break, Dewhurst is not going to resign. And Strauss isn’t going anywhere, either. -
from last night. . . .
Well I got the sanding wheel cut to spec (or close enough) but the wimpy-&*%^$##^ self adhesive sandpaper refused to stick so I still do not have my super slick home made sanding jig. Blast it doggone it (insert a plethora of forbidden words here)!! It looks like I am gonna hafta buy skinny belt sanding belts and rig up some sort of idler pulley system, this just got a whole lot more complicated.
As I way lying in bed last night, I got inspiration to tackle this vexing problem. The solution (maybe) is to put some rails (2x4s with clamps) on my table saw perpendicular to the plane of the blade. The rails will be guides to keep the stock centered over the blade. Start with the blade lowered almost all the way down and simply make real small cuts and slowly raise the blade for each pass. I will cut a bevel on another 2×4 to match the angle I want to produce and use it as a cross piece (90 degrees to rails) and clamp the stock to the cross piece. If this all works out as I plan (hopefully) this will let me cut the joint in about 30 minutes instead of hours and much more cleanly and precisely.
-
#14 Then they will have to be taken out the old fashioned way, at the ballot box. Is there a State of Texas election next year and will Strauss be on the ballot? Is Dewhurts term up yet and does he have to run for re-election this time or izzit next?

Regarding the writing contest – I finally read the small print on the contest rules. I want to protect my copyright to my work, and when I read this, I had some concerns:
By submitting an Entry, entrant hereby grants Sponsor and its successors and assigns an irrevocable, worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to use, copy, transmit or otherwise distribute, modify the Work and publicly perform and display the Work or any portion thereof, within the StumbleUpon Services. Nothing herein shall constitute an employment, joint venture, or partnership relationship between entrant and Sponsor. Entries will be displayed on the StumbleUpon Official Blog at [link].
Has anyone here been published before? Or has legal knowledge that would help? I am only submitting twenty pages of a 36,000 word story, or three of my essays (think: Mary). That would only be a portion of the final work, so would this be a threat to my copyright later?

How many people actually believe that it was simply an accident, anybody? If CNN will blatantly lie about this, what else are they lying about? If I were a storeowner, as soon as I saw a mob of yutes in my store, I’d have security close the front doors and put a “temporarily closed” sign on it, then force everyone to undergo a search. A warning to this effect should be posted on the front of the store.
They can get in, but they can’t get out. I’ve often wondered why more stores/banks don’t have a double door, to trap robbers and thieves on their way out of the store. I’ve been in only one bank that had that system. -
I’ve often wondered why more stores/banks don’t have a double door, to trap robbers and thieves on their way out of the store
I really like the idea. One could have a gas introduced into the chamber to render the perp into a much more manageable state so they don’t use a gun to try and shoot their way out of the box. That would be much safer for the store owner and the cops who have to come and haul the trash away. All sorts of crime fighting/deterring ideas could be incorporated into such a chamber. . . . . . . . Imagine if you knew that if you got caught in one of those things, the potential pain that could be inflicted, you may want to pick a softer target.

Here’s the latest on Cruz with a complete breakdown thru this morning:New Poll: Ted Cruz Has 10-Point Lead Heading into Tuesday’s Runoff
by Tony Lee 30 Jul 2012, 12:30 AM PDT
A new poll from Public Policy Polling, a liberal-leaning outfit, finds that Tea Party Texas Senate candidate Ted Cruz has 52-42 lead over the establishment Lieutenant Gov. David Dewhurst heading into Tuesday’s Texas Republican Senate primary runoff.
He has a 75-22 margin with Tea Party voters, a 63-33 advantage among voters who are “very excited” about voting on Tuesday, and a 55-40 lead among voters who already voted during last week’s early voting period.
In a low-turnout primary, one of the latest primary election dates in Texas history, when the weather is going to be scorching, the candidate who turns out his most enthusiastic supporters has the advantage. And all signs indicate that that candidate is Cruz.
Furthermore, Cruz leads 49-44 among those who have yet to vote. -

Happy Birthday NASAEisenhower signs bill creating NASA
July 29, 1958
On this day in 1958, President Dwight D. Eisenhower signed the National Aeronautics and Space Act, which established the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA). The national commitment to a broad program of space exploration, including manned space flight, came in response to the Soviet Union’s successful space launches, begun in 1957. In 1961, President John F. Kennedy set as a national goal the achievement of a manned landing on the moon by the end of the decade. NASA began to reorganize and increase its space establishments. Central to the agency’s new future was the construction of a manned-space-development aggregation, including facilities in Florida, Alabama, and Mississippi. NASA also elected to build a new space-management, crew-training, and flight-control center on Clear Lake in southeastern Harris County, Texas, thanks to the efforts of Texas Congressman Albert Thomas. The Manned Space Center opened in 1963 and was officially renamed the Lyndon B. Johnson Space Center ten years later -

Democrats Backpedal as China Readies $15.1 Billion Canadian Oil Deal
by Wynton Hall 28 Jul 2012
When President Barack Obama blocked the Keystone Pipeline, Republicans said the move would encourage Canada to pursue oil deals with China instead of the United States and cede a massive chunk of North American oil assets to the communist nation.
Now, with China’s state-run oil company CNOOC poised to cut a $15.1 billion deal–the largest ever foreign acquisition for a Chinese company–with Canadian oil company Nexen, Sen. Charles Schumer (D-NY) and Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) are in full backpedal mode.
In a draft letter to the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States (CFIUS), Sen. Schumer writes:
I respectfully urge you, in your capacity as chairman of the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States (CFIUS), to withhold approval of this transaction to ensure U.S. companies reciprocal treatment.
Similarly, Rep. Pelosi is now sounding alarms of concern. In a statement, Pelosi spokesperson Drew Hamill said:
This deal prompts great concern about the Chinese government’s continued attempts to use its state-owned enterprises to acquire global energy resources.
Saying “I told you so” offers little solace to concerned Republican lawmakers.
“Do we really want to be buying our oil or Canadian oil back from the Chinese?” said Sen. John Hoeven (R-ND). “If we don’t take action to develop our resources and work with our closest friend and ally Canada, that’s exactly what’s going to happen.” -

Insanity: doing the same thing over and over expecting a different result.CNN Plays ‘Stupid Girls’ Before Story About Sarah Palin Visiting Chick-Fil-A
By Noel Sheppard
Remember last November when Congresswoman Michele Bachmann (R-Minn.) was disgracefully greeted with the song “Lyin’ A– B–ch” during her appearance on NBC’s Late Night with Jimmy Fallon?
On Sunday, Pink’s “Stupid Girls” was played before a CNN Sunday Morning piece about former Alaska governor Sarah Palin visiting a Chick-fil-A restaurant to show support for the embattled company (video follows with transcript and commentary):
[Music and lyrics]: Aha, aha. Stupid girl, stupid girls, stupid girls. Maybe if I act like that…
RANDI KAYE, ANCHOR: Sarah Palin is apparently hungry for chicken and controversy. She posted this on Twitter and Facebook: “Stopped by Chick-fil-A in the Woodlands to support a great business.” That is her and her husband Todd. Chick-fil-A has come under fire after, we were just telling you, after its president Dan Cathy came out in opposition to same-sex marriage. Several communities now trying to block Chick-fil-A from coming into their cities. Fellow Republican Mike Huckabee has organized that Chick-fil-A appreciation day scheduled for Wednesday.
Imagine such a song being used to introduce any female Democrat. The outrage would be deafening.
On the other hand, Hot Air’s Jazz Shaw, who first reported the incident via Twitter, observed Sunday:
[I]t’s my understanding that the hosts of these shows on the 24 hour cable news channels generally have nothing to do with the selection of the bumper music. That’s usually handled by the production staff, and a specific individual is frequently assigned to do nothing but select the musical cuts. CNN can – and probably will – easily say that it was all a coincidence and it might be hard to prove otherwise.
CNN may say that, but it’s no excuse for such sexism and misogyny from America’s self-described “most trusted name in news.”
As such, will CNN and Kaye be asked to apologize?
Stay tuned.
*****Update: A CNN spokesperson told the liberal website Mediaite, “The music selection was a poor choice and was not intended to be linked to any news story. We regret any perception that they were planned together.” -

Shut down of the week:
For the past two weeks Barack Obama’s media minions have been working overtime trying to convince the American people the President was taken out of context during his now infamous “You Didn’t Build That” speech in Roanoke, Virginia.
CNN’s Donna Brazile and the Washington Post’s Ruth Marcus tried making that pathetic claim on ABC’s This Week Sunday only to receive a much-needed education from George Will.

George Will is known for his consistent, trenchant remarks.

The business lobby is not going to stand for risking a shut down of Texas airports because of a stupid, red meat, TSA anti-groping bill of highly questionable constitutionality, i.e., criminalizing the actions of a federal agent performed in the normal course of duty.

But they won’t do it. Its an empty threat. They know it would cost them more than they would gain. -
/Sigh.

Lets do it this way:
Describe for me the economic implications, both domestic and international, of shutting down the airports in Houston, Dallas, San Antonio, and El Paso.
Then tell me who would shoulder the lion’s share of the blame for shutting down those airports. -
It’s not about political gamesmanship and blame.
It’s about cold, hard cash. -
Once you get there, tell me who on the Federal level, would be willing to pay the political costs of shutting down the airports.

It’s not about political gamesmanship and blame.
It’s about cold, hard cash.I absolutely agree.
Which is why they’d never shut down the airports.
Its an empty threat. -
It comes down to this:
The arguments for the idea that ANY Administration’s threat of shutting down the airports in Texas is an empty one are far more convincing and logical than any argument that says they will.
Therefore, the only roadblock to passing this bill is rendered moot. -
I’m going back into my cave where the voices in my head and I can have a conversation based in Reason. And the beer is cold.
-
Reason tells me that there are plenty of reasons to pass the bill, and no real logical ones not to.
We either start standing up to expanding Federal power with every means at our disposal, or we roll over and keep doing it the way the Republican Party has advised for the past 20 years.
How’s that been working out? -
#18 Tedtam, I had one book published some years ago. I’m not sure why so many libraries banned it.
Has anyone here been published before?
My former UU minister recently published this childrens book using kickstarter.com. It’s self publishing to the extent that a minimum amount of pledged funding must be reached before the initial printing. In his case, about 80 people raised $4K. No money changes hands until the minimum funding has been reached. Your intellectual property is protected, and there are royalties.
-
Oh no, Shannon is turning into a Lurker.
🙂 -
Thanks, Bob. I’ve been looking at place like Amazon, too. They take a cut of the e-books bought.
I have until noon tomorrow to submit my entries in the writing contest. Still mulling that one over. I don’t want to lose control over my work, and now that I fully understand that it will be exposed to the public with little control, and I hand control over to the committe to use as it wishes, I’m getting cold feet. On the one hand – other people have done this and I’m assuming (which may be a bad thing) that there was no damage. I don’t have any illusions that my fairy story would be blockbuster enough to make anyone take notice, but I do have some strong feelings about my Bible perspectives. On the other hand – I would be placing my work out to the public, and anyone could copy and paste, and then run with it. The fairy story wouldn’t be too big a problem – it’s only a small piece of a much larger work, but the others – the essays – I’m not too sure about.
I may be making a mountain out of a molehill. -
From my post late last night (this morning???)
Speaking personally, I have never been a particular fan of Mr. Cruz. And, unlike Sarge, I never seems to develop a profound antipathy toward Mr. Dewhurst. Until this election.
After watching and reading the ads that he paid for personally, I have come to the conclusion that Mr. Dewhurst is really a Democrat, and a vile one at that. I will never cast a vote in his favor, period. If by chance he manages to win the runoff against Cruz he will have to survive in the fall without my vote. I think he is beneath contempt.
Also, I don’t live in Mr. Patrick’s senatorial district, but his endorsement of Dewhurst has me thinking that he may have worn out his welcome in Austin also. The only thing that give me pause is the fact that Mr. Dewhurst will remain as Lt. Governor for another 2 years. Given what I’ve seen, I’m guessing that he’s gonna be one mean, vindictive, SOB for the next 2 years. Anything the Tea Party wants to accomplish – they’re gonna have to figure out how to do it in the face of Mr. Dewhurst’s determined opposition.

Montana Senate Race a Dead Heat
BOZEMAN, Mont.—A third-generation farmer and a fifth-generation rancher are locked in a dogfight for a Senate seat in this sparsely populated state, in a race with an outsize impact on the national political stage.
Polls show the Montana contest between incumbent Democratic Sen. Jon Tester, the farmer, and Republican Rep. Denny Rehberg, the rancher and the state’s lone congressman, is a virtual dead heat. To break the impasse, an unprecedented level of money is now flowing into the Senate race in a state with just one million people. -
What Dewcrist did came as no surprise to me. That’s because I was one of those on the receiving end of what Joe Strauss did. Its because I watched as they excised the term RINO from public discourse, then attempted to remove the word Establishment. I have watched them demean Conservatives and I watched as well meaning people who should have known better cooperate with them because they bought into the Establishment line that backing Conservatives would cost them a Republican victory.

Despite being outspent more than 3-to-1, having never run for office and being tasked with penetrating the Lone Star State’s 20 media markets with virtually zero name recognition, Cruz is well positioned to upset Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst Tuesday. It’s a scenario that would send shockwaves through the political elite and embolden the thousands of conservatives from across the country who have descended here to help push him over the finish line.
It’s one thing for a tea party candidate to swipe away an individual House seat or dominate a party convention in a small state, but a statewide win in supersize Texas would be a new high-water mark.

(insert name) is the most conservative candidate! (insert name) will get things done! HORSE CRAP!!! Everyone sounds just like this. Be original! Stand out! Give a thinking Texan a REAL reason to vote for you!
The waning days before elections are some of the times I actually do not miss my radio daze (paydays being another.)
If you get tired of of casually listening to a seemingly endless litany of poorly produced dollar-a-holler spots, try playing every darn one of them for 4 to 6 hours straight.

Well, I see Newsweek decided to add some spice to the election by proclaiming there is a “Wimp” factor associated with Mitt Romney. Well, not to be outdone, I thought of some factors that might actually apply to Obummer. And it comes in the only form I know, a “Top Ten” list of so-called “factors”:
1) The Gay Factor
2) The Muslim Factor
3) The Entitlement Factor
4) The Black Factor
5) The Socialist Factor
6) The Hen Pecked Factor
7) The Class Warfare Factor
8) The Liar Factor
9) The Teleprompter Factor
10) The Hope and Change Factor
Now, I know there must be other “factors” that apply to the pretend president that might affect this election so feel free to add to my list. -
Robert M — How about the “All my relatives are illegal aliens” Factor ?

Seems from reading about the latest poll on the Senate race taken by an unfriendly source like PPP and all the commentary it has caused that it might be time to dust off that petard the Texas Democrats built to ensnare the Republicans in the redistricting lawsuits. The primaries got delayed twice in court squabbling with the obvious intent that Texas would not have any say about the Republican nominee by the time May 29 rolled around. This of course would not hurt the Dem primaries because they are reduced to a sad sack miniority party in this state, but the chance for deviltry was just too good to pass up so they filed their suits.
However few counted on the Republican contest going as long as it did, but Texas was the state to put Mitt Romney over the top in required delegares for the nomination. 🙂 And even better having the runoff on July 31 between Ted Cruz and David Dewhurst gave plenty of time for the Cruz campaign to power up the conservative base and attract conservative leaning folks, while simultaneously giving the Dewhurst campaign numerous opportunities to duck debates and appearances before tea party groups, all the while claiming support of tea party principles in absentia. Then came the despicable ads from within and without the Dewhurst campaign that backfired with prejudice and extreme prejudice upon it. Thank you meddling Democrat factions, for you have been a gift that keeps on giving time and momentum to Ted Cruz’s campaign.
Unless the world ends before polls close at 7 pm tomorrow, Ted Cruz will win the GOP nomination for Senate and go on to win the November election for Senator from Texas. And that lonely petard constructed for the conservatives shall serve to hoist the meddling Democrats. Time wounds all heels. 🙂 -
Hell, how about TEN more factors:
1) “My Vice President is an Idiot” Factor
2) “My Wife Takes Too Many Vacations” Factor

6) The “DNC Chairwoman is a Blowhard” Factor

I hate to bleg, but this is for someone else who really needs it.
This is my office help. She is trying really hard to make ends meet – she works for us during the week, and has found part-time on the weekend. Because of several conditions, she would be hard pressed to work in a “regular” environment – social anxiety and depression that needs to medicated, etc. She works well, when she’s in the office. Because of her wisdom teeth issues, she’s been getting infections fairly often lately and had a hard time staying healthy.
Because she is working, she is not eligible for Medicaid. We’ve given her a large chunk of money to help pay to have her teeth extracted, but she’s now come down with a massive infection. The swelling started in her gums, wrapped around behind her ear, and stretched down to the collarbone. She was sent immediately to an oral surgeon, who x-rayed her and found that not everything was extracted and there are two cavities that were missed (one was under a crown or something). She begged for stronger antibiotics, and the swelling is down, but the pain is not. She has no money, and has already moved in with her mother, who cleans houses and doesn’t have any money, either.
I told her about the GoFundMe site, and she didn’t want to do this, but she has no choice. We can’t afford to give her more money, and she doesn’t know where to get the money she needs to get her teeth fixed so she won’t be getting sick any more, not to mention getting rid of the current infection.
So, if you want to, you can donate here. If you know of anyone else who’d like to help someone who is trying to work and not have to quit to go on Medicaid, pass on the message. Thanks.
PS: I tried four times to fix the picture, it keeps chopping off. So yeah, I know her jaw is missing. No pun intended.

Thanks – every little bit helps. We know this is a long shot, but she honestly doesn’t have many choices. Because of her social anxiety condition, her circle of friends is rather small, and the friends she has aren’t wealthy, either. She was crying when I suggested this, she hates being a charity case, but I asked her if she had any better ideas, and she just shrugged through her tears.
I gotta go and run some errands, and I have to be somewhere tonight early. If anyone else donates and I don’t have time to check in, thanks in advance. -

With less than two days until the runoff for the GOP nomination in the Texas Senate race, Lt. Gov David Dewhurst has a narrow lead over rival Ted Cruz, according to a Dewhurst campaign internal poll obtained by Hotline on Call.
The survey, which was conducted this past Tuesday through Thursday, shows Dewhurst leading Cruz, 48 percent to 43 percent. While I do not trust an internal Dewhurst poll, this is another reason to reiterate to folks to go out and vote tomorrow.

About 10 this morning a mother raccoon and three babies walked/scampered through the side pasture and stopped to refresh themselves at the 50-gallon stock tank that was fortunately for them near brim full. The kids played while Mom drank and then at her direction stretched up far enough over the rim to reach the water. Several minutes went by until everybody was watered, then she rounded them up and headed down the fenceline to the back of the pasture, looking back to see they were following in line, and then marching on.
They looked to be barely juveniles if that, and Mom wasn’t very large herself. I wonder how many mornings they’ve made this trip unseen or if the recent dry spell has forced her to seek water farther afield. They hung a sharp right at the back fence and went under the culvert and up along the gravel road behind, heading toward the river, still mostly in line but sometimes darting to one side or another until Mom looked back and obviously said something. They disappeared down the road, a trio of furry tails and bottoms swinging to and fro, following a larger tail and bottom in the lead. A pleasant break on a sunny and quickly warming morning. Thank you, Lord. -

The whole idea of having to get permission from the man to make a living has gotten way out of control.
These Ds in Va have gone completely nuts telling a farmer that they can’t sell their stuff without a permit?!? This kind of systematic bureaucratic overreach (Hello Nanny Bloomberg) is going to push some of those on the bubble over the line and will wind up getting people killed. This looks like “wire testing ” to me. The Ds are simply seeing just how much they can get away with. Unless and until they are stopped, either at the ballot box, court room, or violence it will continue.

I sure wish someone would take an interest in actual voter fraud and stop kvetching about voter ID.John Enright, a Republican running for Supervisor of Pinal County, Arizona, ended his campaign on Thursday morning after allegations that his former companion — who has been deceased for five years — has been voting by absentee ballot since her death.

“When our health care costs are completely out of control. Do you realize what health care spending is as a percentage of the GDP in Israel? 8 percent. You spend 8 percent of GDP on health care. And you’re a pretty healthy nation,” Romney told donors at a fundraiser at the King David Hotel in Jerusalem, speaking of a health care system that is compulsory for Israelis and funded by the government. “We spend 18 percent of our GDP on health care. 10 percentage points more. That gap, that 10 percent cost, let me compare that with the size of our military. Our military budget is 4 percent. Our gap with Israel is 10 points of GDP. We have to find ways, not just to provide health care to more people, but to find ways to finally manage our health care costs.”
And this guy should know, having developed a pretty good plan the last time he was in government.

While you’re ruminating over that, think about whether or not you think that the intimations of anti-semitism as a motivation on the part of the Oust-Strauss effort of 2010 was justified by the facts, or genned up by the same kind of media machine and motivated by the same self interest as motivated the Dewhurst bunch. -
Today marks another significant milestone
On this day in 1965, President Lyndon Johnson signed into law Medicare, which provides low-cost hospitalization and medical insurance for the nation’s elderly. The legislation remains an important legacy of LBJ’s “Great Society” society initiative.
President Harry S. Truman was the first Medicare beneficiary.
-
On this day in 1965, President Lyndon Johnson signed into law Medicare, which provides low-cost hospitalization and medical insurance for the nation’s elderly.
Low cost my backside!! It cost more than 10 times after 20 years than what was projected. The doctors who actually treat patients barely (if they are lucky) cover variable costs and there is no contribution to fixed costs, let alone profit. The machine takes a huge chunk and the fraud and abuse (the ease of which was built into the system) takes another big chunk so the actual service providers get hosed as well as the elderly. Medical costs overall started to skyrocket as soon as Medicare came into effect, it is a wissin disaster, just like medicaide, and social security. Not that a hardened lefty like you would bother to take an honest look at it.

Well, I just stumbled in and have NOT been keeping up, but I have an update on the garage clean out. Yesterday I worked on the old work benches and tonight we were going to put out about 1/3 of all the useable junk out by the street because the pile took up about 1/2 of the garage and the wife thought it would look bad if we put it all out?! We knew, of course that it would be gone before daylight. Anywho, she got out there about 6:30 and started dragging the stuff out to the street and a couple of Mesicans drove up in an old Ford pick-up pulling a trailer, the whole shootin’ match almost empty, well an hour later they loaded up EVERY piece in the truck/trailer. Said, “God Bless You” when they drove off. Wife said “I wish that they had pulled up before I started, would have saved me a lot of work”. They even took our trash cans to the street. 😀

My #140, I was raised by folks that grew up during the Depression and we NEVER threw anything away and I have a very hard time doing that, I’m just happy that most of my junk will be put to good use.

With just 100 days left until the U.S. presidential election, investors are beginning to make bigger bets on which candidate will carry the day.

Wall Street Already Betting On Who Wins in November -
A Federal court in Washington, D.C. on Monday dismissed the DOJ’s claims that its political appointees did not interfere with the New Black Panthers case.
In a case that decided whether the watchdog group, Judicial Watch, could receive fees and costs associated with the New Black Panthers litigation, U.S. District Court Judge Reggie Walton held that:“documents reveal that political appointees within DOJ were conferring about the status and resolution of the New Black Panther Party case in the days preceding the DOJ’s dismissal of claims in that case, which would appear to contradict Assistant Attorney General Perez’s testimony that political leadership was not involved in that decision.”
Who saw that coming?
Federal Court: Obama Admin. Interfered in New Black Panthers Case -
Here’s a good follow up to my #169 (boldmine):
In a little noted decision on July 23, a federal district court judge concluded that internal DOJ documents about the New Black Panther Party voter intimidation case “contradict Assistant Attorney General [Thomas] Perez’s testimony that political leadership was not involved in” the decision to dismiss the case.
In other words, the sworn testimony of Perez, the Obama political appointee who heads the Civil Rights Division, before the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights was apparently false.
(snip)
But what is most disturbing about this court order is that it strongly suggests that Assistant Attorney General Thomas Perez essentially lied in sworn testimony. At a hearing before the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights on May 14, 2010, Perez was asked by Commissioner Peter Kirsanow whether “any political leadership [was] involved in the decision not to pursue this particular case.” Perez’s answer, on page 79 of the transcript of that hearing, is an uncategorical “No.” When the statements of Perez are compared to the documents that Judicial Watch forced DOJ to release in the FOIA lawsuit, it is clear Judge Walton was polite when he said they are contradictory and “cast doubt on the accuracy” of Perez’s account.
A less diplomatic judge might have said that Perez testified falsely in his hearing testimony before the Commission on Civil Rights. In other words, he may have committed perjury if he knew his statements were false when uttered.Federal Court: DOJ Official May Have Lied About the New Black Panther Case

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — A new Bible translation tackles the challenge of turning ancient Greek and Hebrew texts into modern American English and then adds a twist: It’s written like a screenplay.
Take the passage from Genesis in which God gets angry at Adam for eating the forbidden fruit from the tree of knowledge of good and evil:
“Adam (pointing at the woman): It was she! The woman You gave me as a companion put the fruit in my hands, and I ate it.
“God (to the woman): What have you done?
“Eve: It was the serpent! He tricked me, and I ate.”
Later, Eve bears her first son, Cain.
“Eve (excited): Look, I have created a new human, a male child, with the help of the Eternal.”
Even people who have never read the Bible could probably guess that other translations don’t say Adam pointed his finger at Eve when he blamed her for his disobedience. Neither do other Bibles describe Eve as “excited” about her newborn son.
That’s pure Hollywood, but the team behind “The Voice” says it isn’t a gimmick. They hope this new version will help readers understand the meaning behind the sometimes archaic language of the Bible and enjoy the story enough to stick with it.Ummmmmm…quaint?
New Bible translation has screenplay format
