During a 9/11 commemoration ceremony, Michelle Obama asked “All of this for a damned flag?” Her pronouncement years ago of being proud for the first time in her adult life of her country pales in comparison to what she said during a 9-11 commemoration. This anti American socialist blathering fool has gone way too far. There she sat on Barack’s right side as bagpipers played and an honor guard folded an American Flag. You know how it’s done? With reverence and respect, folded precisely and crisply. It was during that moment that our nation’s First Lady leaned to her husband’s ears and asked the question that should set your teeth on fire! “All of this for a damned flag?” When Barack nodded, she sat back and gave a look of disgust. There is no audio but you can clearly read her lips (An expert lip reader verified this). HE doesn’t show the least bit of surprise at her question!! “All of this for a damned flag” YES, ALL OF THIS FOR A FLAG! NOT A CLUE!!! That flag? The stars and stripes to her must be nothing more than an old rag? Just a pieces of cloth sewn together and not worth the consideration of a dust cloth. That flag IS the representation of the GREATEST NATION ON EARTH. That flag flies in honor of those who protect this nation with their lives. It stands as a symbol of freedom and justice in this world. It protects our liberty and our rights. Each star represents an individual state and each stripe one of the 13 original colonies. What irks me most is that he nods in agreement to her statement.

Just spent the week in Panama City/Beach. I had no idea that it was even there. Gorgeous white beaches and an abundance of restaurants, the majority of which serve fresh seafood. I’m not sure what trigger fish is, but it’s popular.

It’s a stretch to take “Look at how they fold that flag” to what the satire writer states she said, but if you squint and perhaps slow it down some one can make out just about anything. I imagine it’s already been through a put up/take down cycle on Bartbreit, I suspect next we’ll see more on the Daily Show or Colbert Report.

The House’s latest bill to expand the role of the TSA to include further penetration into mass transit seems to me to be more of burdening all transit modes to make air travel more appealing. It’s less time and hassle now to take the train from Maryland to JFK than to fly out of Dulles, National or BWI.
The Transportation Security Administration already shares intelligence it collects with airports. Now a House bill would expand TSA’s intel sharing to local mass transit systems as well.

Ding, Ding, Ding,…..We have a winner. The beaches are white as sugar and actually squeak when you walk in the sand. The white beaches go from west of Mobile all the way to Port St Joe. The beautiful emerald to blue water, (depending on depth) starts somewhere between Gulf Shores and Perdido Beach. The Moblie river taints the water close to the bay and depending on the flow you can have blue water as far west as Gulf Shores, especially in the summer, after all the rains. In any case from the Ala/Fla line to Port St Joe it’s always pretty.
At Saint Andrews Park you can snorkle at the jetty’s and see down 50 feet in water clear as bath water. The jetty’s have all kind of critters attched to the granite rocks that make them up and just about any kind of salt water fish you can think of.

Did I tell Y’all that it is HOT! Dang. Well my son-in-law gave me a bunch of veggies that he grew in his garden and I’ve already cooked the squash and ate the tomatoes, I still have some pepper and this afternoon I decided to use the okra to make some Gumbo. Dayaam, it’s been a while since I made Gumbo and it takes a WHILE! I had about a pint of crawfish left over from the last shindig and went to Krogers to get 2 lbs of 35-40 count PEELED COOKED shrimp and some of that fake crab meat, but like an Idiot, I got 2 lbs of raw shrimp that I had to peel myself, (20 minutes), then after cooking the bacon, slicing up the okra, onions, celery, garlic and the Deer sausage, I cooked the roux and simmered the okra and dumped it into a 2 gallon pot and added the rest of the stuff, I spent almost 2 hours! BUTT, it will be worth it. 😉

Off to a graduation party. I played my saxophone for the kids while they were doing crafts. I was going to be in a separate room, but nobody came – either they weren’t told or the prospect of glue was too much to overcome. I played some of my junior high school sheet music/books – themes from “The Godfather,” “Romeo and Juliet,” etc. and some other tunes. Eventually, I had a row of about six kids sitting and watching me play. I let them hold the horn (after making sure the neckstrap was thoroughly in place) and showed them where to put their fingers. One kids was a natural, and I told him so. They got some sweet, goofy grins when they held the horn.
And I got blessed, too. A passing deacon told me I played beautifully and he blessed me as I played. Never got blessed for playing before. Not a bad first.
Now, I’m off. My bouncers’ daughter is celebrating her graduation, and I must be there!

As a matter of fact, I got my Mom’s pressure cooker after she got to where she couldn’t take care of herself and I’ve used it a bunch of times, but it wasn’t the cooking, it was the preparation. I had to peel the shrimp and chop up all the veggies and the sausage, and then I had to make the Roux, (think brown gravy) and stir fry the okra. Then I just threw it into a pot and cooked for two hours, made some rice 30 minutes before it was ready and DAYAAM was it good! 😀

And not just any negro, but one from New Orleans and leader of a church whose members, some say, didn’t have the sense to move to Texas in the face of an oncoming hurricane.
The times they are a-changing.
But history was made this week in New Orleans when a 55-year-old African American preacher was elected unanimously to lead the 16 million-member Southern Baptist Convention, which was founded in 1845 by Baptists who were defenders of slavery.

We joined Lovely Daughter and Aggie Beau for mass at their church this morning and then they treated us to breakfast as a belated Father’s Day celebration for Hubby. It was nice to go to a church where everything was in English for a change. From what I’ve been told, their priest will tell people who are inappropriately dressed to do better next time, or, in extreme cases, to leave and come back to a later mass and do it clothed appropriately. I think I’d like their pastor.
We had a very nice breakfast and discussion, then we left. I had a very short night, so Barf Kitty and I had a nap on the couch. Now it’s time to try to do some catching up on my paperwork, and I must prepare dinner later. Hubby wants me to barbecue while he’s out.
And LOTR-Fellowship of the Rings is on. This is shaping up to be a decent Sunday. A very decent Sunday, indeed.

We joined Lovely Daughter and Aggie Beau for mass at their church this morning and then they treated us to breakfast as a belated Father’s Day celebration for Hubby. It was nice to go to a church where everything was in English for a change. From what I’ve been told, their priest will tell people who are inappropriately dressed to do better next time, or, in extreme cases, to leave and come back to a later mass and do it clothed appropriately. I think I’d like their pastor.
We had a very nice breakfast and discussion, then we left. I had a very short night, so Barf Kitty and I had a nap on the couch. Now it’s time to try to do some catching up on my paperwork, and I must prepare dinner later. Hubby wants me to barbecue while he’s out.
And LOTR-Fellowship of the Rings is on. This is shaping up to be a decent Sunday. A very decent Sunday, indeed. -

Ambassador Charles Cobb, who served as ambassador to Iceland from 1989 to 1992, said Rice was “spectacular” and described her as a “very bright, sophisticated, articulate lady.”
Husband-and-wife donors from Los Angeles who did not want to be identified said Rice’s message was one of “America needing to take charge.”
“We can’t stand by and let things happen,” the wife said. “If we do, someone else will take that leadership role.”

I was on Lake Tawokonee this weekend for a family reunion of my parents their 6 chirrenzes (me and my siblings) those what married in and all the associated spawn. There were only about 33 or so because not everybody showed up. It was cool watching my parents hold their great grandchirrenzes. A good time was had by all.
Unfortunately, I can see that the stain was active here on the couch in its efforts to be offensive.
I’m checking out for the evening; hasta manana (insert little tilda thingie over the correct n). -

Dogwoods are one of my favorite trees, I love driving through the Piny Woods in the spring and seeing the only color under the pines, besides the pines of course and that would be the flowering dogwoods. FWIW; We had a native chestnut in Alabama where I grew up, over on the back 40, next to a big P-Nut field. When I was small (4 or 5) in the late 50’s I remember picking up the nuts from a huge tree that was about 80% dead and it was gone before I started to school! I remember my Dad trying to explain to me why, when it was gone there would be none to replace it. Many years later I understood what he meant. 🙁

The American chestnut’s an interesting case. Like the accursed tallow tree, they do not die when the stem is cut but send up new shoots. Unfortunately the blight claims them before they can bear fruit. So surprisingly there are actual quite a number of these around in a shrub state. Occasionally mature trees are located that escaped for one reason or another and there are a number of programs trying to back cross breed with Chinese Chestnuts. Should someone be successful, chestnuts should re-establish themselves quickly growing faster than oaks. They are not really a landscape tree (think horse chestnut) but are a better timber tree than oak with their wood being rot resistant like cypress.
Another tree that’s on the dying list that I was not aware of are butternuts which are susceptible to canker. At least hickory and black walnut appear to be holding their own.UNDER a spreading chestnut tree

One of the big shockers for me whan I moved here was realizing the enormous flowering trees in the spring were actually dogwoods. Having grown up in Texas with the attendant heat, I was used to fairly small and delicate dogwoods. In New York and New Jersey, the dogwoods grow as tall as oaks in Texas.
However, they were my mother’s favorite tree and one of mine. I have here in north Jersey, a beautiful old dogwood that shades the west side of the house allowing me a place for shade plants, flowers and caladiums, all my mother’s favorites.
Thanks for the heads-up on the threat to the dogwood. I would be really sad to lose this one.

Not only does Jon Stewart tell an audience inclined towards supporting Obama in November exactly why Operation Fast and Furious was so important to investigate, he also explains that the Obama administration has been refusing to cooperate with subpoenas, giving false information to Congress, and generally stalling for the last several months. On top of that, Stewart then skewers the same Democrats who blasted George Bush in 2007 for hypocrisy in defending Obama’s executive privilege claim in 2012. That’s a hell of a lot more information than NBC provided its viewers this week, that’s for sure:
And more bad news for the Party which is increasingly leaning heavily on Social Issues since the Economy is doing is best road kill impersonation and thus can’t be used to run on, Pennsylvania is now in play.
Bucks County is no sure thing for Romney. It is your classic Philadelphia “collar county” that swung to Obama in 2008 and back to Republicans in the gubernatorial, U.S. Senate and U.S. House races of 2010. It is a mix of suburban neighborhoods, rural farms and pockets of manufacturing — a haven for Philadelphians seeking a home outside the city.
It is no sure thing for Obama, either: Recently released election results from April’s primary show that 100,000 Democrats across the state opted not to vote for the president while casting votes for other Democrats. In Bucks County, 2,000 left the Obama ballot unchecked.
I guess a hundred thousand folks skipping a box does get noticed after all.
Looking forward to next week’s SCOTUS decision on Oblameocare and the Arizona illegal immigration law. Scott Brown, 2010, Wisconsin, Fast and Furious, and SCOTUS kicking the guts out of Barry’s agenda—its a good time to be a Conservative.
