Thursday “Nothing Goin’ On” Open Comments

The hand still hurts. When I got home last night, I went for ice and rest. I’m struggling still today, so I hunt and peck. I open the door with my left hand and welcome all of you to The Couch,
Get your own topics. Get your own tea. I’m icing the hand.

Sugar Land coughed up 37 million for this. And we were so close to having the team named the horny toads. Such greatness so narrowly missed. But still, the hicks in Brenham must be green with envy.

A quick check shows nobody’s posted this yet. So…
Why is Obama polling better among women than Romney. Because Obama’s got a big stick.

I kept expecting to see the guy lift off and float up to the ceiling on his air hose tether.
But NOOooo, he just pranced around for 5 whole minutes.

For that I will spare him a late night flat, three days in a row would pass from amusing to rude. Tempting though that may be.

Bones, I have no idea how to play it but at $50 I could not pass it up. Hey it’s real easy, even I know how to operate one of those. You get yourself a canoe and stroke on the left, then the right, lather, rinse, repeat and iffin’ you want to turn left, paddle only on the right, reverse… Read more »

#79 Bones, Yes, I did understand your point but I don’t agree with your premise. Yes, no doubt, our culture has decayed a lot but they way the film was shot, leaving out any hint of what was going on and the guy stabbing the hunting knife into the ground, you couldn’t help but think that there was evil going… Read more »

Hollywood wouldn’t write a script that stupid.

Well, I don’t know, how about The Green Hornet, The Return of the Beverly Hillbillies and Camouflage as examples of stunningly stupid movies?

Shannon and I were raised as Episcopalians and I can honestly say I have never seen a more completely self-destructive organization in my entire life. I left a very long time ago but I kept an eye on what was going on. Hollywood wouldn’t write a script that stupid.

So that is actually an old photo of the Obama gang yukking it up. Once I identified the guy in the front as Robert Gibbs, I realized he’s been gone over a year. Didn’t recognise Valerie Jarrett in that shot either.

Whiskeypalians. Haven’t been in while but I still have the syllabus. Been pretty sad to watch a few work their way into leadership and head off to place ideals above all else. There is a word for that.

We can pull a permit in any town in the greater Houston area, including Galveston, except Friendswood. They are total asshats at city hall. Everybody else accepts the State’s license. Friendswood sort of does but they add additional requirements, so we don’t maintain one there. We don’t do residential work and are not missing much. Deer Park is almost as… Read more »

It turns out that Obama reads every single New York Times columnist, and considers Paul Krugman “obviously one of the smartest economic reporters out there.”

I don’t know what’s causing it, but the women in Florida need some psychological help. A woman who was causing a disturbance on a Florida street rejected a cop’s demand that she stop using profanities by explaining, “F*** you ni**er. You can’t tell me what to do. Obama owns this motherf****r!” That logic on the part of Tamaria Epps did… Read more »

Since that time there has been a steady and increasing stream of individual churches and whole dioceses moving to more conservative alternatives, one of which is a union of Anglican/Episcopal churches in Africa. Many have also jumped in and swum back across the Tiber. The Catholic Church now has an Anglican Liturgy – there are a couple parishes here in… Read more »

The final straw for many American Episcopals was the election of Gene Robinson as a Bishop in 2003. He was not only openly gay, but in an ongoing “relationship” with another man.

This is the reason you want to play chess with an Episcopalian for money; because they can’t tell the difference between a bishop and a queen.

#46 WB: It appears that theological and social liberalism walk hand in hand. The Episcopal Church is both: The Episcopal Church was active in the Social Gospel movement of the late 19th and early 20th centuries.[9] Since the 1960s and 1970s, it has opposed the death penalty and supported the civil rights movement and affirmative action. Some of its leaders… Read more »

It gets pretty complicated. And things are changing/moving quickly.
Orthodox Anglicans worldwide are experiencing realignment pains.
The Archbishopric of Canterbury, under the gutless reign of soon-to-retire Rowan Williams, is becoming a titular post as schism destroys the Anglican Communion.
It will come out the other side in fine shape.

she might have already calved a couple of times.

Yes, but a nutcase like this woman can contaminate the human race just by her continued influence on others around her, especially her own offspring.
I am suddenly reminded of the Jonestown mass suicide and the Heaven’s Gate comet cult.

Entire Dioceses have exited to form the Anglican Church in North America.

Aren’t many of the national conferences (or whatever they call Anglican affiliates in each country) starting to align themselves with the Anglican Church in Nigeria (which I think I read is growing strongly)?
