Now we can watch Wagon do the Happy Dance.
United only learned that after it had broken ground at Bush on what could eventually be a $1 billion expansion that could include a second customs facility at that airport.
I do not know why the article uses the word could instead of will, but you can always dream.

#7 – On an only slightly tangential note – I personally busted up (for recycling) a SUBSTANTIAL amount of brand new street & sidewalk paving out at IAH back in the 80s (when some “ACE” engineers realized that had placed the international terminal D incorrectly)
I can still hear that hydraulic hammer in my head…………………..

I can still hear that hydraulic hammer in my head…………………..
That reminds me of a conversation this past weekend at church. I was waiting for someone, and while waiting was talking with a few friends and some man I didn’t know who was with them. My gal friend brought up the topic of my dirt moving, whereupon I explained my situation and why I was hand-moving the dirt (Hubby hasn’t brought his backhoe to the house). The guy suggested I get a pickup truck and head to Home Depot to pick up a few day laborers (about this time I was biting my tongue) to move the dirt. “They’ll do a good job for you,” he said, “but don’t you have a jackhammer in that truck! They’ll jump in and jump right back out. No, ma’am, they don’t like that jackhammer one bit! They’ll go right through the back of that truck!”

Yeah, but it still reminded me of the conversation.
Some years back, Hubby rented an air compressor to power his jackhammer to remove a sidewalk in front of our house that we no longer wanted. The local civic club called us on the carpet for running a business out of our house – and one lady went purple-veined ballistic over the “large equipment” in our front yard. Hubby didn’t get physically in her face, but he certainly gave it back to her in front of her yard nazi buddies: “Yes, I have an air compressor in my front yard! And if you had taken the time to look (a certain word was implied but not said here), you would have seen the concrete we were breaking out. We’re removing a sidewalk. It’s for my personal use, it has nothing to do with my business, and it will be gone on Monday.”
Yard nazi wench sat back in her chair and couldn’t quite come up with words at that point. There was one man at the end that I thought was on our side, at the end of the table. He just sat there smiling at us. Every one else was fuming.
Damn yard nazis. We moved here because there were so few restrictions, but these people have nothing else in their lives. They even made it difficult to improve our property!

Well it looks like the Trayvon Martin/Zimmerman case is playing out like I originally thought. Nice article last night Darren. In the comments section of that linked article, there is one mention that sweet, innocent Trayvon was not simply walking down the sidewalk but through people’s back yards. Further the photo that is usually shown of Trayvon is when he was 12, not when he was 17 and a 6’3″ football player, further still they chose the worst possible picture of Zimmerman, a freaking mugshot taken several years earlier. The report states that Z was walking back to his vehicle, which would be the exact opposite of pursuing, and sweet, innocent Trayvon jumped him. The evidence at the scene (bloody nose, lacerated scalp on back of head, grass stains on back of shirt) matched the initial testimony of Z and that is why he was not arrested, it was a simple case of self defense.
Those who immediately branded Z as an over-zealous cop wannabe or worse were simply fooled by the media hype and spin. This should be a lesson to all of us, the LSM wants the fires of race hatred and fear to be roaring – that way we will be distracted away from the more serious issues that face us like:
$5/gal + gasoline
a ballooning deficit
a national debt that is getting to the point that it can not be paid back
a whole sale sellout of our national security
an abandonment of our commitment to Israel
the establishment of precedent that the federal govt can mandate that we buy certain products; OBAMACARE
the fed reserve wildly printing money to keep the govt running with nothing to back it up; this always causes runaway inflation.
the coddling of criminal terrorist mooslimes while at the same time the attack on law abiding business like oil companies
no energy policy other than rank corrupt investments payoffs to companies like Solyndra
I could go on but I think y’all get the point.

Infamy at Goliad
March 27, 1836
On this day in 1836, which happened to be Palm Sunday, at least 342 Texans were executed by firing squad at Goliad. The Texans considered these men prisoners of war, whereas General Santa Anna thought them “perfidious foreigners.” The Mexican dictator had decreed that all Texans in arms against the Mexican government were to be treated as traitors, not soldiers. The men were led out of town and shot at point- blank range. Those not killed by the first volley were hunted down and killed by gunfire, bayonet, or lance. The bodies were left unburied. The incident, which became known among Anglo-Texans as the Goliad Massacre, joined the Alamo as a rallying cry for Texas independence.

No distraction about it. This is another example in a long list of examples to make sure that a minorities maintain their victim status.
There has been an ongoing dialogue for many years that whites are still subjecting minorities to discriminatory practices and that white always get favor in anything. Whenever two individuals clash it is yet one more chance/example for the point to be made.
NOTE: I have not followed the case, I do not care who did what to whom, but when I see Al Sharpton, Jesse Jackson and my boy Obama on TV commenting about another black person it is not hard to guess what is going on.

This report make absolutely no sense. A gun doesn’t go off unless the trigger is pulled or the sear has been filed down too far in an amateurish attempt to give it a hair trigger. Assuming it did go off, how did the bullet travel upward through the mattress? That would mean the gun would have to be between the mattress and spring in a vertical position. That alone is a near total impossibility and then the bouncing would cause it to fall back to the horizontal position, which would mean the bullet would have had a horizontal trajectory. Some one’s not telling the truth here….
Girl Jumps On Mattress, Causing Gun To Fire And Hit Her
March 24, 2012 7:45 PMCHICAGO (CBS) – A 5-year-old girl jumping on a bed was injured by a bullet early Saturday when a gun beneath the mattress went off, police said.
The incident occurred at about 12:22 a.m. Saturday at a Marquette Park residence in the 6400 block of South Artesian, police news affairs told CBS 2. The child was jumping on a bed when a weapon discharged, apparently from underneath the mattress.
The girl sustained a wound to the ankle, police said. She was taken to Comer Children’s Hospital, the Chicago Fire Department said. No condition report was available, but it was presumed the injury was of a non-life-threatening nature.

#27 OTL: Let’s say the miscreant, irresponsible gun owner left his firearm in the cocked and unlocked, safety off position (not a 1911 style .45 with a grip safety) and he put it on a rail under/supporting the box springs, not the mattress. If that were the case, a child jumping on the bed could cause it to dislodge and fall on the hammer (weight bias with the loaded magazine in the grip) and that could be enough, with a hair trigger, to cause the weapon to discharge and that would necessarily be in an upward trajectory.
You are correct, that if the weapon was between the mattress and box springs it would be impossible for it to fire in an upward position. I would say this is another example of crappy reporting.

One possibility? What if the gun was on top of the mattress? Everything could “fit” then. And the gun owner, trying to cover his own a$$, fired a round through the mattress to “fit” his coverup story. If it was a semi-auto, I’d be looking for a second empty brass, or if it were a revolver, I’d be checking the cylinder for fresh ignition residue in two of the chambers.

Just when you think it can’t possibly get any more incestuous or a more obscene waste of money, Michelle Malkin’s site has this.
On a dusty, rock-strewn expanse at the edge of the Mojave Desert, a company linked to Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid wants to build a bullet train that would rocket tourists from the middle of nowhere to the gambling palaces of Las Vegas.
Privately held DesertXpress is on the verge of landing a $4.9 billion loan from the Obama administration to build the 150 mph train, which could be a lifeline for a region devastated by the housing crash or a crap shoot for taxpayers weary of Washington spending.
The vast park-and-ride project hinges on the untested idea that car-loving Californians will drive about 100 miles from the Los Angeles area, pull off busy Interstate 15 and board a train for the final leg to the famous Strip.
Yeah, that could happen, the people will drive for a hundred miles to put their cars in a park and ride, pay for parking, and then pay a fare to take a train to Lost Wages where, if they want to go anywhere, they will have to rent a car or hire a taxi; did I get that one right? Why I can see people really clamoring to get on that train. So the company that has “links” to Dingy Harry Reid is about to get a big federal campaign contribution payoff loan guarantee and we are supposed to believe that everything is on the up and up?
This one stinks just as bad as Solyndra.
update: The driving distance from LA to Las Vegas is about 265 miles; if the park and ride is 100 miles out, this stupid train is only going to cover the last 165 miles of the trip. This makes it even less likely that it will be used by anyone.

#30 OTL: That could happen as well. One thing is for sure, the weapon was not left in a safe position. For a semi-auto, the safety was left off with the hammer back or a revolver the hammer was back.
My Browning Hi Power has a half cock position for the hammer; even with one in the pipe, from the half cock position you can pound on the hammer with another hammer and it will not discharge. That pistol is idiot proof, prolly why I like it so much.

It took some digging, but I found an article that has a description of the weapon.
Upton’s girlfriend and his mother told responding officers that the gun — a Smith & Wesson, .22 caliber, blue-steel automatic handgun with a 6-inch barrel and nine live rounds in the magazine — belonged to Upton.
S & W has made only one pistol that is 22 caliber, semi-auto, 10+ round capacty, with a 6 inch barre, the Model 622. It is no longer in thier catalog. It is an internal trigger semi-auto with a thumb safety just above the grips that can be left “off’”. Here’s a video showing the operation and dissassembly (and no, I don’t know why he is in camo with a face mask on).
Given that a 4 year old had sustained a wound to the ankle fired from close range and is currently listed in “good condition”, it is likley that her wound came from a ricochet. The.22 round becomes extremely unstable once it encounters any obstruction—a twig is sufficient to send it off course—firing horizontally or nearly so can stll result in an upward trajectory if the projectile merely grazes any of the metal springs and supports inside any common mattress.
Looking at the picture of the “owner”, it also seems likely that he is (a) not an outdoorsman experienced in the safe handling and storage of weapons, (b) likely to be the sort to stash a pistol under a mattress loaded and cocked with the safety off. Once you have a weapon in that condition, the likelihood of any sudden movement making it discharge is extremely high.
Its good to know that the “owner” is probably headed to jail.

I got to spend some time with my sister and her hubby. They live in Michigan, and he said that their winter has been abnormally warm. Normally, they still have snow into May, but it was all gone already. Then he got a phone call from his mother, who told him that they got a dusting of snow yesterday.

Those who immediately branded Z as an over-zealous cop wannabe or worse were simply fooled by the media hype and spin.
Then why did he get out of his car and follow young Mr Martin on foot when the police were on their way, when he could/should have observed and reported from a safe distance?
Zimmerman’s actions were the ultimate cause of the situation escalating to the degree that it did. Martin’s response was the proximate cause.
IOW, both share some degree of culpability for the unfortunate events of the evening.
n.b. – I don’t think Zimmerman is guilty of murder; manslaughter at most. Almost certainly assault with a deadly weapon.

IOW, both share some degree of culpability for the unfortunate events of the evening.
n.b. – I don’t think Zimmerman is guilty of murder; manslaughter at most. Almost certainly assault with a deadly weapon.
I remember coming home late one night to find two young men in camo literally hanging over our fence. As I pulled into the driveway and “headlighted” them, they dropped off the fence and began walking down the street. I called the cops and followed them in my car. They didn’t run, they just kept walking, and I told the dispatcher where they were. She suggested I not follow them. I kept a good distance between them and my car, never left my car, and I did shortly thereafter turn around and go home. My house had not been broken into, but I was shaken.
The cops knocked on my door about an hour later. They had found the guys, and were letting us know what was going on. It seems that they and a few friends had started out playing hide and seek in their yard, and then expanded the game to include the neighborhood. The parents of the teens were informed of the activity when the cops took them home.
That’s one way of becoming a Darwin Award winner. Play hide and seek in other peoples’ yards without their knowledge.

Pyro, you are off base; you said:

and the police report said”
Zimmerman told them he lost sight of Trayvon and was walking back to his SUV when Trayvon approached him from the left rear, and they exchanged words.
He lost sight of Trayvon because he heeded the advice of the 911 operator, which is why he said OK, and was walking back to his SUV. It was Trayvon who pursued Z, dramatically and needlessly escalated the situation by:
1) talking smack
2) assaulting Z with the punch to the face
3) beating the head of Z against the ground
Z, at that point, was in legitimate fear of his life as any sane person would be, and he shot the turd Trayvon in self defense. NO murder, NO manslaughter, no charges as he was acting in self defense.
Trayvon could have simply walked away, or to his father’s girlfriend’s house and that would have been the end of it; instead he had to try and prove his manhood and got dead for it.

If Zimmerman had told them he saw monkeys flying out of Martin’s butt, that would have been in the police report too. That doesn’t mean monkeys were actually flying out of his butt.

While that may be true, Z’s account and that of the eyewitnesses, one of whom called 911, all match the evidence at the scene. One witness said that she saw Trayvon going through back yards and looking in windows. There was a previous incident where several items of jewelry were found in T’s possession, although he was not charged in that incident.
Looking at the various reports, it appears to me that a career criminal’s life got cut short.

Why was he out of his car in the first place? Martin would not have been talking smack to Zimmerman if he weren’t around to be talked smack to.
My statements still stands.

James Pethokoukis of the American Enterprise Institute says BO needs “space and flexibility” for more than dismantling our defense infrastructure.
Jimmy P writes BO and the Democrats will raise taxes by 40% if given their way after November 2012.
In 2012, the Congressional Budget Office projects Uncle Sam will spend 23.2% of GDP and take in 16.3% of GDP in tax revenue. In 2022, under the liberal CPC plan, spending would be 23.3% of GDP — a bit higher than the CBO forecast for 2012 — and revenue would be a sky-high 22.6% of GDP. In other words, spending would be 0.1 percentage point more and tax revenue would 6.3 points higher, or nearly 40%.
The “Budget for All” contains just about every sort of tax increase imaginable. It would, of course, allow the top-end Bush tax cuts to expire, as well as create five new tax brackets — 45%, 46%, 47%, 48%, and 49% — for “millionaires and billionaires.” In addition, House liberals would break new ground by slapping a European-style wealth tax of 0.5% on fortunes of $10 million or more. The plan also contains a bank tax and a financial transaction tax.
But it’s not just the wealthy and bankers who would get pinched. These Democrats would also raise income taxes on the broad middle. The CPC plan would “allow the 28% and 25% brackets to sunset once the economy is on solid footing, in 2017 and 2019, respectively.” That means higher taxes on families making over $70,000 a year — a big, fat, middle-class tax hike. And some of those families would also be paying more for energy thanks to the carbon tax that’s also in the CPC plan.

I haven’t written a word about the shooting in Sarasota, Florida. I will say this: if everything I have seen and heard in the last 36-48 hours holds true, Mr. Zimmerman will be vindicated.

The lovely, young Alana Goodman at Commentary quotes the following:
Hotair:
The Supreme Court just wrapped up the second day of oral arguments in the landmark case against President Obama’s healthcare overhaul, and reports from inside the courtroom indicate that the controversial law took quite a beating.
Today’s arguments focused around the central constitutional question of whether Congress has the power to force Americans to either pay for health insurance or pay a penalty.
According to CNN’s legal analyst Jeffrey Toobin, the arguments were “a train wreck for the Obama administration.”
“This law looks like it’s going to be struck down. I’m telling you, all of the predictions including mine that the justices would not have a problem with this law were wrong,” Toobin just said on CNN.
and from the always excellent Philip Klein at the Washington Examiner:
Justice Anthony Kennedy, long seen as the swing vote in the case, repeatedly said that the mandate was unprecedented and that the government had a “heavy burden” to justify it. He said that it changed the relationship between the individual and the government in a “fundamental” way.
Also, one of the key arguments made by challengers in the case, is that earlier rulings of the Commerce Clause don’t apply here because the mandate forces people to enter the stream of commerce. On this point, Kennedy asked Obama’s Solicitor General Donald Verrilli, “Can you create commerce in order to regulate it?”

Well it LQQks like we’re having my Grandmothers family reunion at the Old farm house this year. This was the house she lived in all of her adult life. After she died in 1966 the family started having reuinions every year, some time in mid-late May, (her birthday was May 28), but after about 10, I think?,,..we quit and didn’t have another until 2010 and I met kids and grandkids that I’d never seen before. So we’re happy but it’ll have to be on June 9 so that the kids in school can come and it works for me because I can cut my Florida trip short a day and get ready, Lil’ Sister has chairs and tables and knows where to get a tent and a porta-potty. Cousin Kathy is the “Straw Boss” because she wants to and lives in Dothan, right down the road. Yup, Life is good.

#66 Texpat, I’m starting to have a good feeling about this, but you never know. And to ANYONE that thinks “W” was useless, he appointed two of the best Justices on the court. Obama appointed two women that were NOT qualified and both are Progressives Communists. When I think about people who throw away their vote and let someone like Obama get elected, it makes me CRAZY!! 🙁

Justice Anthony Kennedy is an egotistical prick of the highest order. He is the one, and he knows it, and where this will go down in history, and if he wants to be written up in history 200 years from now with that jack-azz Lincoln. The four lefties get a pass as usual.

I’m looking at $1000+ for a tankless gas, vs ~$500 for a (smaller than I have now) tank. I’m still liking them though. I got the break-even numbers from a Consumer Reports page. They do tend to be a bit conservative. 😉

This has also made the news: Trayvon Martin shooting: New details emerge from Twitter account, witness testimony
As Dan Linehan, a blogger at Wagist.com, pointed out, correspondence with Martin on Twitter before he died alludes to an incident with a bus driver. “Yu ain’t tell me you swung on a bus driver,” Martin’s cousin wrote to him on Feb. 21.
Tavyon “swung on the bus driver”, kinda like swinging at a neighborhood watchperson. This link takes us to this at Wagist. Travyon’s Twitter name was “NO_LIMIT_NI**A”. On his My Space page he shows off the tattoo on his right arm. Nobody in Trayvon’s world sports such a tattoo who did not care to run with da’ gangstas. The blog post points out the glorified violence and drug use in Trayvon’s world.
It was Zimmerman who reported that he saw a person who appeared to be on drugs, followed that person while on a 911 call reporting it. He did not confront the person but the person turned and confronted him violently. Zimmerman then defended himself from that person’s attacks with a gun.
Trayvon Martin’s is now seen as one filled with drugs and violence with which he played an active living. Zimmerman reports ap erson who appeared on drugs and was attacked by that person. I think there’s enough corroboration to defend Zimmerman.

You want a hero ? Here’s one.
Uncharacteristic of a risibly biased yellow rag like New York Magazine, they publish a fair and interesting profile of Paul Clement, the former Solicitor General under George W. Bush, who is leading the team at SCOTUS against Obamacare.
Most legal experts believe that though Clement is facing long odds, they’ve shortened considerably. Paul truly is the best lawyer of his generation, and if he can’t win the case, no one can, says Neal Katyal, the former acting solicitor general under Obama. As the Supreme Court lawyer Tom Goldstein puts it, Paul has turned the health-care fight from kind of a conservative dream that’s untied to reality into a very serious threat to undo the president’s signature accomplishment. This alone would be a landmark achievementand, for most lawyers, would have required their complete attention. But health care is just one of seven cases that Clement will be arguing in front of the Supreme Court this term, a caseload previously unheard of for a private attorney. In fact, since leaving the position of solicitor general under Bush, he has become, in the Obama age, a sort of anti solicitor general the go-to lawyer for some of the Republican Party’s most significant, and polarizing, legal causes.
and,
But last spring, Clement ran into his first taste of public controversy when he was retained by Boehner and the House Republicans to argue in federal court for the constitutionality of the Defense of Marriage Actthe 1996 law that defines marriage as a legal union only between a man and a woman and which Obama’s Justice Department had refused to defend. Gay-rights groups such as the Human Rights Campaign targeted King & Spalding, even taking their campaign to some of the firm’s clients. Soon, the firm was pressuring Clement to drop the case. When King & Spalding eventually withdrew from the DOMA case (stating that the representation hadn’t been properly vetted), Clement resigned from the firm and immediately decamped to Bancroft, a Washington, D.C., boutique law firm founded by Viet Dinh, a law-school classmate of Clement’s who later served with him in the Bush administration. Bancroft had no qualms about the DOMA representation. We are blissfully free of existential angst, Dinh says.

Listening to the audio of the arguments has been fun.
Only a fool would predict the outcome based on transcripts or audio of arguments, but when you hear the ridicule in the justices’ reaction to the government lawyers’ arguments, there does seem to be some hope.

I read an article recently about ATT (and Verizon) not only dinging you for going over your monthly data limit (which is completely fair), but also slowing your download speeds significantly.
I went over my limit yesterday and today I couldn’t refresh this blog site or get others to open before it timed out.
If they”re going to charge you $10 for another Gig, what’s the justification for virtually NO Service???
Whine over.

Not only did Rick Perry do well at the Gridiron Dinner, but so did the Dem’s Debbie Wasserman Shultz. On her mastectomy:
“By the way, my health battle wasn’t all bad. I got these,” she said, gazing at the bodice of her long red gown. “I like to call them my ‘silver linings.’ Some people who know my story ask: “Debbie, are they fake?”
“I say, hell, yes, they’re fake. The real ones tried to kill me, although the fake ones feel very real. At least that’s what the TSA agents tell me.”

My usual sweet demeanor would be challenged in Wasserman’s presence.
She’d bring out that teensy tiny little Bill Maher inside of me.

I guess this kinda makes sense … I can’t recall ever seein’ a snail with wrinkly skin ...
A client receives a medical-cosmetic massage by way of African snails at a beauty salon in Krasnoyarsk, Russia, on March 23, 2012. Salon owner Alyona Zlotnikova claims that the slime from the snails quickens skin regeneration, eliminates wrinkles, and removes discolorations and scars.

The CFPI study is a painfully bad joke. I’m not even going to waste my time explaining how flawed their criteria and methodology are. I honestly cannot believe they are trying to peddle this nonsense.
It’s sufficient to call in Santorum’s interjection to NYTimes lackey, Jeff Zeleny.

I am looking forward to the SCOTUS ruling on O-care in July or so. The R’s should have a candidate by then (even though it’ll probably be Romney; dammit) and the real battle for the white house will be in full swing. The issue of O-care will resonate; it was a classic cram down by the socialist Demo-Nazis and all the Ds are going to pay for it as very few Americans think it is/was a good idea.

Another big issue this election will be the EPA bankrupting the coal industry today while simultaneously guaranteeing rolling blackouts for much of the nation in the years to come. I imagine our Nubian Prince can kiss WV and PA goodbye.

They have devastated the fishing industry in New England and off of Florida. The trucking industry is reeling from the EPA regs. The ag industry is terrified of the new crushing rules proposed by the US Labor Dept.
There is a deep, seething hatred and resentment brewing out there and it is not reflected yet in the polls. But just wait, it will be come November.

I looked and didn’t see Mrs Shamaal on the Friendswood page, so I guess the promise of a new vacuum cleaner has her still enthralled.
Carrying the tagline “city folks just don’t get it,” FarmersOnly.com launched with about 2,000 members, but grew to more than 100,000 users by 2010 as nonfarmers embraced the sensibility.

Dateline: West Montgomery County – Magnolia, Tx
Homeowner’s adult son is sleeping in side bedroom, hears noises like someone breaking in, gets up, grabs firearm and goes to the living room and finds an intruder. Fires several shots, intruder is hit, intruder runs out of the house, falls dead in the driveway.
Around the same time, another man calls 911 to report his truck has been stolen. Police investigating the above crime scene find the truck in the driveway, next to the dead man. In a few moments, truck owner arrives on the scene, is questioned and is arrested after numerous accounts of what happened.
Translation: Two guys go burglar a house, get-away guy sees it is not going well and runs. Needs his truck back, calls it in stolen.
Gotta be East County infiltrators, things ain’t right after the East/West Montgomery County border patrol got so lax.

From lawprof Glenn Reynolds on Mother Jones’ take on today’s orals at SCOTUS:
Heck, even Mother Jones is calling it a “disaster.” “Solicitor General Donald B. Verrilli Jr. should be grateful to the Supreme Court for refusing to allow cameras in the courtroom, because his defense of Obamacare on Tuesday may go down as one of the most spectacular flameouts in the history of the court.” Ouch. From Mother Jones?

Doubt it.
