Our benevolent dictator will allow private capital to invest in two nukular power plants. Sort of like how they allowed private capital to invest a gagillon dollars in a pipeline study and then not allowing it to be built. Given the latter, will anybody be stupid enough to invest in the former?

Chris Matthews ( Chris Matthews! ) rebuts the Pipeline Perfessors’s robotic regurgitation of White House Talking points regarding Obama’s overreach towards controlling religion in this country.

When a Democratic President loses Chris Matthews … where else can he turn? Matthews rips MSNBC analyst John Heilemann on the air for regurgitating incorrect White House talking points during a discussion of the contraception mandate when Heilemann claims that the HHS order is the same as in 28 states now. Not true, says Matthews, who notes that the states offer various ways for religious organizations to avoid paying for products and services that violate their conscience, which is not possible with the HHS mandate (via Greg Hengler):

White House to Announce ‘Accommodation’ for Religious Organizations on Contraception Rule
    By Jake Tapper
    @jaketapper
    Updated at 9:04 a.m. ET

With the White House under fire for its new rule requiring employers including religious organizations to offer health insurance that fully covers birth control coverage, ABC News has learned that later today the White House — possibly President Obama himself — will likely announce an attempt to accommodate these religious groups.

The move, based on state models, will almost certainly not satisfy bishops and other religious leaders since it will preserve the goal of women employees having their birth control fully covered by health insurance.

Sources say it will be respectful of religious beliefs but will not back off from that goal, which many religious leaders oppose since birth control is in violation of their religious beliefs.

One source familiar with the decision described the accommodation as “Hawaii-plus,” insisting that it’s better than the Hawaii plan — for both sides.

In Hawaii the employer is responsible for referring employees to places where they can obtain the contraception; Catholic leaders call that material cooperation with evil. But what the White House will likely announce later today is that the relationship between the religious employer and the insurance company will not need to have any component involving contraception. The insurance company will reach out on its own to the women employees. This is better for both sides, the source says, since the religious organizations do not have to deal with medical care to which they object, and women employees will not have to be dependent upon an organization strongly opposed to that care in order to obtain it.

NEVER, NEVER, NEVER go to sleep on guard duty in the Marine Corps. This is a violation of the second and fifth General Order. Nothing happened that every Marine goes through in Boot Camp. I suspect this kid was a malingerer and whiner.

    USMC GENERAL ORDERS

    General Order number 1
To take charge of this post and all government property in view.

    General Order number 2
To walk my post in a military manner, keeping always on the alert and observing everything that takes place within sight or hearing.

    General Order number 3
To report all violations of orders I am instructed to enforce.

    General Order number 4
To repeat all calls from posts more distant from the guardhouse than my own.

    General Order number 5
To quit my post only when properly relieved.

    General Order number 6
To receive, obey and pass on to the sentry who relieves me all orders from the commanding officer, officer of the day, and officers and non-commissioned officers of the guard only.

    General Order number 7
To talk to no one except in the line of duty.

    General Order number 8
To give the alarm in case of fire or disorder.

    General Order number 9
To call the corporal of the guard in any case not covered by instructions.

    General Order number 10
To salute all officers and all colors and standards not cased.

    11th General Order
To be especially watchful at night, and during the time for challenging, to challenge all persons on or near my post and to allow no one to pass without proper authority.

    .

KANEOHE BAY, Hawaii (AP) – A military jury on Thursday found a Marine sergeant not guilty after authorities charged him with hazing a lance corporal who later committed suicide in Afghanistan.

The general court-martial panel of three officers and five enlisted Marines deliberated about an hour before announcing that Sgt. Benjamin Johns was not guilty of violating a lawful order by wrongfully humiliating and demeaning Lance Cpl. Harry Lew.

    snip

Prosecutors alleged Johns hazed Lew by ordering him to dig a foxhole as punishment for falling asleep on guard duty at their patrol base in a remote part of Helmand province. They also charged that the 26-year-old from Russelville, Ark., didn’t intervene when a corporal punished Lew by making him carry a sandbag around the base.

Bilecki told the jury in closing arguments the foxhole was needed to protect the base, which had already come under attack by Taliban fighters multiple times, and keep Lew awake while on watch duty.

“If something is necessary for the mission, it’s not hazing,” Bilecki said.

Johns couldn’t allow Lew to finish his shift early and go to sleep because that would reward sleeping on watch, he said.

    http://www.breitbart.com/article.php?id=D9SQ9JSO0&show_article=1

And here’s how the deliberation went down:

Jury panel takes pee break before starting: 5 X 1 minute=5minutes
Make fresh pot of coffee before starting 20 minutes
Take coffee break before starting 30 minutes
    Read jury instructions 4 minutes
    Motion to vote 30 seconds
    Render verdict 30 seconds

DENVER — A Denver woman claims she couldn’t board a flight from Wyoming to Denver because of her gender. Jennifer Winning makes the flight from the small airport of Rock Springs, WY to Denver often, but on January 29th it was different.

“They wouldn`t let me get on the plane because I`m female,” Winning said.

She said she checked in and arrived at security about 35 minutes before the scheduled departure of her United flight.

“They asked if I was on the flight to Denver, I said yes, they said that they couldn`t screen me because they sent all the female TSA agents home,” Winning said.

Bill Murray hits the nail on the head:

“I think we ought to be personally responsible,” he said on CNBC’s “Squawk Box” Friday morning. “I think if you can take care of yourself, and then maybe try to take care of someone else, that’s sort of how you’re supposed to live.

“It’s not a question of asking other people for help or being rescued or anything like that,” he continued. “I think we’ve sort of gotten used to someone looking out for us, and I don’t think any other person is necessarily going to be counted on to look out for us.

Then he makes a rather questionable comment:

“I think there’s only so many people that can take care of themselves, and can take care of other people. And the rest of the people … they’re useful in terms of compost for the whole planet, you know.”

Does that mean the infirm? Are we supposed to relegate those who are not capable of caring for themselves to “compost”? I’m hoping he misspoke.

And he made these comments on CNBC’s “Squawk Box”. Hmmm….

Good afternoon Hamsters. Cold and rainy 51 at 6, the kind that penetrates to the bone. Got 0.85″ in the plastic rain guage, had a few minutes of sunshine, now back to breezy overcast as the front moves through.

Obama the Tyrant’s assault on the Constitution and the First Amendment continues in slightly different sheep’s clothing. So now he unconstitutionally madates the insurance companies will provide the cafeteria contraception/abortion women’s “health” plan free instead of the religious institutions. Who must buy insurance, btw. A flimsy distinction without a difference. We’re still mandated to buy the insurance, we still foot the bill. Let’s see the religious community say hell no to that.

What was that ditty about a free lunch?

And now Obama has appointed another czar to adivse illegals on their “rights.”

Got 13/13 on the quiz. 🙂

All the LSM are boldly proclaiming that O is reversing himself and has reached “an accommodation” with the Catholic Church. Balderdash! Now the insurance companies, that are hired by the CC are going to pay for these services “for free” and the CC is not involved. Will these same insurance companies provide those “free” services to those who are not under a plan with their company? If you have to be covered under a plan of the insurance companies to get the “free” stuff – IT AIN’T WISSIN FREE and the entity paying for the insurance is paying for the stuff in question. Limbaugh and Hannity are in agreement that the Feds do not have the authority (1st amend) to tell the church anything or require them or their insurance companies to do anything. Both are railing on the loss of 1st amendment protections.

If the person to be saved is a stranger, it is morally proper to save him only when the danger to one’s own life is minimal; when the danger is great, it would be immoral to attempt it: only a lack of self-esteem could permit one to value one’s life no higher than that of any random stranger.

HEADLINE:Holder tells Congress the Obama administration wants to ban guns

In a rash attempt to deflect attention away from himself and his own irresponsibility, Holder let Congress know that the Obama administration is still working toward the day when it can reinstate former President Bill Clinton’s so-called “assault weapons” ban. According to Holder:

This administration has consistently favored the reinstitution of the assault weapons ban. It is something that we think was useful in the past with regard to the reduction that we’ve seen in crime, and certainly would have a positive impact on our relationship and the crime situation in Mexico.

Read the article; this guy puts “pretzel logic” to shame.

I hope Holder stays on at least through October as he really helps put a face on the incompetence of this admin. and that is helpful to the ABO voters.

    I give up.

For the past several years when I come up here, Canadian Immigration sends me to secondary clearance where I get to talk to the nice Immigration Officer for a couple of minutes. They decide I’m not a threat to Canadian culture and let me in.

Last time, the nice Immigration Officer said she’d file some kind of report that would hopefully get my name off their list of “shifty people”. Apparently it worked. I flew through passport control yesterday.

This afternoon, I’m going through US Immigration here in Calgary and the US Immigration Officer grills me. He asks me where I’m heading. I tell him “Home.” Then he asks me why I’m going to Houston. I must have looked at him like he had an arm growing out of his forehead when I said “Because I live there.” Keep in mind I actually have a birthright to enter the US.

The goober then asks why I’m in Canada. I tell him for work, then he goes through the whole “what line of work are you in” thing. I tell him. When he goes to stamp my passport, he asks me if I was here last month, which he could plainly see from the entry and exit stamps from the week before last.

If he had been a run-of-the-mill cop I would have told him “nunya” when he started asking questions, but since I happened to be at a border crossing (of sorts), I figured it wasn’t worth the hassle of going to talk to the secondary US dude and spend another night here because I missed my flight.

Objectivism is a philosophy, not a religion, and there are quite a few particulars in which I disagree with Ayn Rand.

My opinion probably falls closer to this description:

And, really, what can one say about Objectivism? It isn’t so much a philosophy as what someone who has never actually encountered philosophy imagines a philosophy might look like: good hard axiomatic absolutes, a bluff attitude of intellectual superiority, lots of simple atomic premises supposedly immune to doubt, immense and inflexible conclusions, and plenty of assertions about what is “rational” or “objective” or “real.” Oh, and of course an imposing brand name ending with an “-ism.” Rand was so eerily ignorant of all the interesting problems of ontology, epistemology, or logic that she believed she could construct an irrefutable system around a collection of simple maxims like “existence is identity” and “consciousness is identification,” all gathered from the damp fenlands between vacuous tautology and catastrophic category error. She was simply unaware that there were any genuine philosophical problems that could not be summarily solved by flatly proclaiming that this is objectivity, this is rational, this is scientific, in the peremptory tones of an Obersturmführer drilling his commandoes.

You seem to me to be a very pragmatic person, but certainly for all the trendy hipsters seen at Tea Party rallies wearing “Who is John Galt?” t-shirts and holding up signs with the image of Ayn Rand – for these people Objectivism is a religion in a very real sense of the word.

I think there is a lot of overlap between the two.

Indeed. There is also considerable amount of “objectivism” that is antithetic to modern American conservatism.

Which is why most Tea Party folk have crossed Mitt Romney AND Ron Paul off thier list.

They represent the extremes of the Republican Party.

Ray Mabus has already proven himself to be a careless and rude jackass regarding treasured tradition.

The reason serious organizations wait until a person is dead to name a building or ship after them is to allow the test of time to temper their memory and the emotional impulses to subside. If after all that, the reasons to memorialize survive, then their legacy is considered. Mabus obviously buys wholesale into the squishy, touchy-feely therapeutic victimhood of the current age.

I just ran Malwarebytes, clean also.
But it is a conservative website so you never know what trash is hanging around.

All the alternative candidates have repeatedly said they won’t run. But there is new speculation focusing on Bush after the former Florida governor turned heads Monday morning when he wrote, in the Wall Street Journal, a campaign-like economic manifesto headlined “Capitalism and the Right to Rise.”
    ….
Hours after the op-ed appeared, Rush Limbaugh discussed it on his radio program. Praising the article — “I swear, I could have written this” — Limbaugh saw it as a possible trial balloon for a Jeb Bush run. Noting that Wall Street Journal editorial board member Stephen Moore appeared on Fox News Monday morning and expressed hope Bush would run, Limbaugh concluded, “So you might say, now, that a wing of the Republican establishment [the Wall Street Journal] is floating a trial balloon for Jeb Bush.”

Thanks for chiming in with the good analogy. But Hammy is correct that there are Objectivists who treat it as a religion, and Rand as the Law Giver. I was active in an Objectivist study group in Austin (decades ago) and there were a few people like that. To really understand her philosophy, you have to read her non-fiction, not just the novels.

Odd factoid: Alan Greenspan was a “disciple” of Ayn Rand in the 1960s and he wrote several articles on economics for The Objectivist Newsletter.

This is hilarious from The Truth About Guns:

Today is so yesterday. While the show remains a cash cow, Today’s production team can’t show up at J-school lecture halls without the cloying smell of 80′s happy talk overpowering their intellectual pretensions. And so Today is dipping its collective toe into . . . wait for it . . . investigative journalism. What better way to kick off their new venture than a cookie-cutter piece of EAT-G (Easy Access to Guns)? Did you know you can buy guns over the Internet without an FFL and FBI background check? Only one problem . . .

YOU CAN’T. But that kind of fact checking seems to be beyond the ken of Jeff Rossen and NBC’s “national investigative unit.”

Hey guys, the Internet is only the means by which buyers and sellers find each other. It’s the modern-day equivalent of what used to be called “newspapers.” You know; a printed publication that ran “classified ads.” I hear they used to be all the rage.

Apparently, this newfangled Internet’s something different: a cesspit of illegal gun sales. Not just guns. Semi-automatic guns. Assault rifles. Fifty caliber sniper rifles that can shoot five miles. Five miles! And bring down a helicopter! As Rossen breathlessly pointed out, the fiddy’s a favorite of Mexican drug lords.

All seems fine with Baby girl’s arm. She doesn’t act like she has hada broken arm except an occasional complaint of pain. But what worries me is that all seemed fine before it was discovered that her bones were not healing right. Having had to reset the bones and rebandage the arm and now having to put a new cast on it, her arm will have spent a long time basically “doing” nothing. Of course I want to be careful with her arm mending but I think it does need some excercise to heal correctly and efficiently. I do want to look into rebuilding her arm strength when it is movable.

Mrs. Darren’s doing good overall though there was a blowout last night. I got home a bit later than usual and started some small talk to get a conversation going and she blew up un rage. In other words, yup, she’s pregnant. It took a few hours afterwards for her to calm down. She spoke to her mother for at least 2 1/2 hours on the phone which helped a lot. I want ot tell the whole story because there’s some valuable insights into family but i need tothink of how to word the experience and structure it. She’s at a girlfriend’s house tonight with the two daughters. Oldest Son’s of age to babysit Youngest Son and so I think I’ll stop by tonight and ask her on a date to go buy Breaking Dawn at midnight tonight / tomorrow morning. She’ll like that (if she has not already made plans with her girlfriends to do so).

I’m doing really well. Health is good and I make sure I eat healthy regularly. I still splurge a bit and perhaps more than i should but overall the diet is a lot more healthy than what it used to be.

Thank you for asking. As always, I do appreciate it.

Darren, may I suggest a book? I’ve been reading a book title “Living Successfully with Screwed Up People”. (Yes, I have a few of those in my life.)

Don’t know how much it’ll help in your case, but it couldn’t hurt. Unless she sees the cover. Might want to read it away from home. Or under the covers with a flashlight.

    Seriously, though, it’s excellent.

I’ve never been to a Tea Party rally. Are there really kids there — trendy or not — wearing John Galt t-shirts?

Absolutely. They are not the majority, but every Tea Party rally I’ve been to they are there, usually hanging out around the periphery.

Find a man who’s a devout Catholic, family man, a gifted speaker, and conservative and you have the perfect storm against the contraceptive mandate Obama issued, as Limbaugh said, by edict.

    Hamous #155;

I had no idea who Pete Seeger was until I found this on the web (and, no, I won’t link the source):

For nearly 70 years as a performer, Pete Seeger has embodied the ideals of folk music – communication, entertainment, social comment, historical continuity, inclusiveness. The songs he has written, and those he has discovered and shared, have helped preserve our cultural heritage, imprinting adults and children with the sounds, traditions and values of our global past and present. A fearless warrior for social justice and the environment, Pete’s political activism – from the Civil Rights movement and anti-McCarthyism to resistance to fascism and the wars in Vietnam and the Middle East – has become the template for subsequent generations of musicians and ordinary citizens with something to say about the world.

    Far out creepy.

Thank you. That books does seem fitting and even amusing. I don’t know how Mrs. Darren would react to it but it won’t be hidden from her at all if it were to enter in our house.

And, yes, I know you have some crazy people in your life. 🙂

Well, i went over to Mrs. Darrens girlfriend’s house where she was laughing it up with the company there (and good for her), asked her on a date to Walmart and she’s excited. Do I know how to woo a woman or what? 🙂

He sang a song on the Smother’s Brothers show, called Waist Deep in the Big Muddy, that was deleted by CBS because the line, “And the Big Fool says to push on,” was a thinly veiled reference to President Johnson and his prosecution of the war.

Breitbart tells CPAC: I have videos of Obama in college and they’ll come out during the election

I think the best part is at the 12;40mark where Breitbart affirms that he’ll march with “whomever our candidate is”.

As for Breitbart’s claim ot have video of Obama in college, I agree with the following from Allahpundit:

Naturally he’s coy about what he’s got, but it sounds like it has to do with O as a student radical. I wonder if big media, having heard this, will scramble to try to uncover the footage and put it out ASAP so that it’s old news by the time of the general election. Can’t wait to hear their explanations for why they couldn’t be bothered to do that last cycle.

Yeah, it couldn’t be because they all want to make a buck with footage, besides I have it on good authority that he didn’t really attend school.
Of course there’s nothing wrong with Breitbart proudly proclaiming he’s in the bag for whomever the Republicans run.

    Good Luck at Walmart. 😉

Regarding that terrible accident, I should think the technicians (?), vets (?) would have sedated the horse this time as well regardless of previous uneventful behavior inside the hyperbaric chamber. Story says they didn’t this time. Also, given the danger of the oxygen atmosphere (remember Apollo I), I would think the shoes should be removed first or at least covered with rubber boots that would prevent a spark in the event the horse began thrashing.

Sedation and/or anesthesia in horses can be tricky, as sometimes it can do the opposite and make the horse frantic. Recovery after surgery is a particularly anxious time because instead of being dopey and slowly waking up, the horse can start thrashing wildly about and injure itself further to the point it cannot be saved. The medications used must be carefully chosen and administered. But disaster is always possible. Recovery stalls in surgical centers have padded walls and cushioned floors, an observation widow or balcony, and the veterinary technicians or vets do not observe from inside the stall. Panicky thrashing can happen in a minute with no warning, so it is too dangerous for anyone to be in there unless absolutely necessary and then only for a short time.

If the horse was wintering in FL but lived in the north and was having hyperbaric treatments, you can bet it was worth $$$$. Bet there will be a lawsuit from the owners or the insurance company.
