Thursday Recall Open Comments

The Wisconsin recall vote has become ground zero in the war of the Unions vs. The People.
First, the governor and the legislature make changes in order to save the state from bankruptcy, which makes the unions angry because they have to, you know, make SACRIFICES. Of course, being union disqualifies you from having to suffer through this recession/depression, like everyone else. Long live pensions! Long live job protections! Long live fully paid benefits! Long live wage increases!
When the recall petitions were finally submitted with a the much-touted “over a million” signatures, there were questions raised. The Government Accountability Board (coff, coff) stated that they would take any signature as long as there was a legitimate address listed. Hello, Donald Duck and Adolph Hitler!
Then True the Vote stepped up and wanted to help out with the gargantuan task of verifying the signatures. They are assisting the WiGOL (Wisconsin Grandsons of Liberty) and WTOPTR (We the People of the Republic). The effort, dubbed Verify the Recall, has requested for help from all over the country. Volunteers can input data from the PDF files from their own homes. And donate to the cause from their own homes, as well. I don’t think the GAB had counted on such outside, organized assistance for the recall targets. The GAB decided not to release the petition lists, claiming “privacy” issues. The “privacy” issue didn’t come up in previous recall efforts. Hmmmm…. The public outcry made them change their minds, so now the petitions are available in PDF format, meaning that the names must all be entered by hand into the VTR database.
Almost immediately, problems with the signatures began cropping up.
Now, the GAB has decided it will not review any information provided by Verify the Recall, stating that it will only accept information from the campaigns themselves.

GAB Director and General Counsel Kevin Kennedy said there is no process in place for accepting information from outside groups and individuals. Governor Scott Walker and the four Republican state senators against whom recall petitions were filed last month are the only parties that can contest the validity of signatures, according to Kennedy.

And they are putting the onus on the individual voters to make the correction, and even then they mustn’t bother the GAB directly with their report of voter fraud:

The GAB will not investigate or consider independently-submitted evidence of recall petition fraud. This includes circumstances wherein individuals might notify the board that their own name and forged signature were submitted.

According to the GAB, anyone concerned that their signature was fraudulently included on a recall petition, therefore, must notify not the GAB, but rather the target of the recall. In addition, they must do so by the challenge deadline if they want that signature reviewed and ultimately, possibly, struck.

VTR has set up a database where people can supply their names as “not wanting to sign” the recall petition; if their names show upon the recall petition, those names can be contested as fraudulent.
Their reason for being such bubbleheaded blatantly-Democrat leaning dunderheads?

The GAB discussion on the petition review criteria and process focused on their minimum statutory requirements. However nothing in state statutes prohibits the GAB from considering independently-gathered evidence of fraud.
โ€œGiven the unprecedented nature of these recall efforts it would be improper to change procedures in the midst of our review,โ€ Kennedy wrote. [emphasis mine]

Given the “unprecedented nature of the recall efforts,” I would assume that a taxpayer funded entity would want to make sure that a public election for taxpayer representatives would be as legitimate as possible. In other words, they SHOULD DO THEIR JOBS!

VTR is opposing this decision.
We’ll see how well they do. I’m not holding my breath.
I guess the valid question is: What are their jobs? Who do the GAB report to? Are they supposed to keep the liberals in power, or represent the taxpayers?
Questions, questions, questions.

Come on now – where does the law specifically say dead people cannot vote. And given SJL’s campaign to create more African-American sounding names, why would Donald Duck and Mickey Mount not be allowed – they sound African American to me. And besides, after the unions bought and paid for all these signatures, don’t they really belong to the union, and as union property, who is the government or anyone else to question their legitimacy. Truthfully, I don’t know how you beat the margin of fraud when the fraud is 100% to begin with. Absolutely pathetic, yet it will stand unless well meaning citizens stand up and refuse to allow it, at the risk of a few crushed skulls and being put on the Messiah’s no-fly, FEMA camp, needs remedial re-education (or worse) list.

Let’s look at the origins of the upcoming pagan festival Lupercalia, aka Valentines day. Why should we (as believers in The Word as written in the collection of books called The Bible) care if it is celebrated or not and should we participate in it?

Notice the following warning God gave to Israel:

“When the Lord your God cuts off from before you the nations which you go to dispossess, and you displace them and dwell in their land, take heed to yourself that you are not ensnared to follow them, after they are destroyed from before you, and that you do not inquire after their gods, saying, ‘HOW DID THESE NATIONS SERVE THEIR GODS? I ALSO WILL DO LIKEWISE.’ ”

“You shall NOT worship the Lord your God in that way; for every abomination to the Lord which He hates they have done to their gods . . . ” (Deuteronomy 12:29-31, NKJV)

Note that the issue in this passage is NOT the worship of other gods. The warning is to not adopt CUSTOMS used to worship or honor other gods in order to serve and worship the true God.

Valentine’s day and its symbols are rooted in the worship of false gods and has no Biblical basis. Those who celebrate the holiday and consider themselves believers in the God of the Bible need to take a prayerful look at no longer observing the holiday.

I think y’all know what my position on this celebration is.

And apparently we worship in the Synagogue of Satan. Pedantic sophistry my ass. It’s pure, unadulterated, religious bigotry … at best.

What about what the Word quoted above actually says? Is it true or false, are the origins of the celebration in question rooted in Scripture or are they rooted in paganism? Is the Word of Y_VH eternal and unchanging or is it something else?

    Not everyone loves St. Valentine
The religious police in Saudi Arabia, in 2002 and 2008, banned the sale of all Valentine’s Day related items. The police warned shop workers to remove any items colored red as they consider Valentine’s Day a Christian holiday. In 2008 this ban created a black market for roses and wrapping paper.

In Pakistan, the Jamaat-e-Islami political party has called for the banning of the holiday. Despite this declaration the celebration of Valentine’s Day has grown increasingly popular. Florists are expected to sell a large amount of flowers, especially red roses.

In Iran, the celebration of the holiday has been harshly criticized by conservatives who see the day as opposed to Islamic culture. The Iranian printing works owners’ union, in 2011, issued a directive banning the printing and distribution of any goods promoting the Valentine’s holiday such as cards, gifts, teddy bears, posters, boxes printed with hearts or half-hearts and red roses. Activities promoting the holiday are also banned. The union warned that “Outlets that violate this will be legally dealt with.”

That’s from the website you quote.

Sometimes you wish they would just let the states go belly up so that people can see what having unions in the public domain as opposed to private ones can do to one’s finances. There is no way that the taxpayers should be held hostage to union strikes. If they don’t like it there then they should go somewhere else to work where they really have to work. If private industry wants unions then they can pay for them thru their profits or what will be left of them after they give in to the unions. I believe in a fair wage and supply and demand side of hiring a person. You shouldn’t be given a wage increase unless you have earned it, they are not automatic like they are under a union contract.

Next Tuesday, I’m going to give my wife a box of chocolates, a small piece of jewelry, a card telling her I love her, and then I’m taking her out to eat to a nice restaurant.

Nowhere in that list of plans do I find anything about worship (of any god, true or false). Nor does it seem to reek of pagan rituals. If you want to claim that I’m evil because I choose to do these things on Tuesday instead of Wednesday, feel free, I think I’m pretty safe from the wrath of God on this one.

But, don’t let me harsh your mellow, good buddy, there’s always Easter to look forward to.

…thereโ€™s always Easter to look forward to.

Well if giving your wife a box of chocolates doesn’t send you to Hell maybe celebrating the Resurrection of our Savior will:

The Passover was NEVER called Easter by the first century church. The word Easter is a derivative of Ishtar, or Astarte, the name of a pagan goddess of fertility who was celebrated during the Spring solstice.

The King James Version Bible was written by scholars whose orientation was toward Catholic and Anglican church doctrines. This bias caused some errors in translating the original Bible text into English. One such error was translating the Greek word pascha (Greek: ฯ€ฮฑฬฯƒฯ‡ฮฑ, Strong’s Concordance #G3957), which means “passover,” as the English word Easter.

According to Catholic dogma, which has largely been carried over into the Protestant churches, Jesus was killed on Friday and resurrected Sunday morning, with the anniversaries of those dates observed as part of the Easter celebration.

A little research will show that the origin of what we call Easter or the Easter holiday has NO Biblical basis whatsoever! Easter was never taught or observed by the early New Testament church.

Damn those Mackerel Snappers! They’re mucking it up for EVERYONE!

I think we can all agree that Messiah fulfilled the Biblical feast of Passover, correct? Why then, is easter always celebrated on a sunday when the timing of Passover is completely independent of the day of the week? When one actually studies the Biblical Feasts, Passover, Feast of Unleavened Bread, First Fruits, Shavuot (Pentecost), Rosh Hoshanna, Yom Kippur and Sukkot, one can learn that these are HIS Feasts, not man’s or Jewish feast But HIS. There is a very specific way described in HIS WORD, as to when one is to celebrate HIS FEASTS, and none of them are determined by the day of the week. When HIS written Word tells me to do or not do something, I find it to be prudent to do as instructed.
Fulfillment in no way means abolishment or eliminating; frequently there are multiple fulfillments of a single prophecy.

First, I find it interesting that the website you quote is so completely bereft of support on this position that the only quotes they could find were Muslim.

Second, you’ve been, on occasion, posting this type of “I’m right and rest of you are unregenerate pagans who are going to burn in hell” missive for some time now.

If you’re going to continue with your peculiar religious instruction, at least try to temper it with a bit of humor, even Jesus did that much (although that’s in the New Testament and therefore a bit suspect).

    Well, this is exciting!

South Carolina is no different. During the current legislative session, state lawmakers are expected to consider a number of education reforms, including the possibility of increasing the number of charter schools in the state, linking teacher pay to student learning, and giving principals the power to fire ineffective teachers.
    /snip
โ€œWe donโ€™t have a shortage of dollars in South Carolinaโ€™s schools, we have a shortage of accountability, competition and incentives,โ€ Zais told EAG.

โ€œTraditional proposals for improving education โ€“ more money, better facilities, improved curriculum and smaller classes โ€“ will not work. Weโ€™ve tried that. Weโ€™ve tried that for 40 years,โ€ Zais recently told an audience, according to the IndependentMail.com.

โ€œThe education industrial complex is bipartisan,โ€ Zais said. โ€œWe have RINOs โ€“ Republicans in Name Only โ€“ who are intimidated by the lobbying groups that get the public and the teachers all excited that weโ€™re trying to destroy public education. To achieve those ends, he believes local schools must be given more authority and responsibility.

โ€œThereโ€™s too much control coming out of Washington and Columbia,โ€ Zais said.

There’s more. I wish this guy a lotta luck. I’d love to see a successful educational reform to jump-start stuff like this nationwide.

    Well, this is exciting!

South Carolina is no different. During the current legislative session, state lawmakers are expected to consider a number of education reforms, including the possibility of increasing the number of charter schools in the state, linking teacher pay to student learning, and giving principals the power to fire ineffective teachers.

โ€œWe donโ€™t have a shortage of dollars in South Carolinaโ€™s schools, we have a shortage of accountability, competition and incentives,โ€ Zais told EAG.

Unions lose in the first wave of Wisconsin recall elections.

Yesterday in Wisconsin, Democrats tried to recall six GOP senators in an attempt to gain a foothold in the stateโ€™s legislatureโ€”they lost in four of the races, failing to regain a majority in the state senate. Those losses came despite a $14 million effort waged by unions and liberal groups from across the country, including the AFL-CIO, UAW, AFSCME, MoveOn.org, Teamsters, UFCW, NEA, SEIU, and People for the American Way.

Let’s see what happens with the Gov. Walker recall election. (See the topic thread)

St. Valentine was a real man that lived centuries ago and due to his unwavering commitment to witness to those who were non believers he was beheaded.

St. Valentine was a priest near Rome in about the year 270 A.D, a time when the church was enduring great persecution. His ministry was to help the Christians to escape this persecution, and to provide them the sacraments, such as marriage, which was outlawed by the Roman Empire at that time. For his belief and practice, St. Valentine was arrested, and imprisoned for his refusal to deny Our Lord and embrace the Roman gods.

He prayed for the sight of the daughter of one of his prison guards to be restored. That prayer was answered and made a convert out of the guard and his entire family.

Was there an underlying pagan holiday celebrated in mid February? Yes, but that does not mean those undertones are still there to this day. This day is highly commercialized and that is a turn off for me personally, but there is no way my wife is going to buy that argument. I am perfectly willing to put her on a little pedestal for the day and pamper her because she is after all an amazing woman.

I would even make the argument that a super large majority of the populace is entirely ignorant of any pagan connection to Valentines Day. So Mr. Good Christian purchases his special woman some nice gifts and treats her to dinner. Does that automatically make him guilty of apostasy towards his Christian beliefs? I think that would be a stretch.

Boney, I like you. I really do. But when you get on your preaching spells, it DOES come across like it’s been described. I try not to take it personally, but it does get old.

I’ve always commended you on your faith, but the way you share it appears to me as if you are telling us we have it all wrong. You are definitely an Old Testament type of guy; it’s what you quote most often. That’s fine.

It’s not me, and I don’t appreciate your Bible-chest-thumping way of promoting your faith. Since we are here to explore other ideas and discuss topics amongst ourselves, I find some of your “revelations” interesting from a historical point of view. But I love my faith, I find it makes a lot of sense, I feel I’m being led to follow a righteous path, and I have some modicum of hope in my eternal salvation. That won’t change. I understand you won’t change. You’re a strong personality type. You may be incapable of sharing your faith without (subconsciously) implying the rest of us are Hell bound.

I try to rack it up to part of your charm and move on.

Dude, I don’t care what your personal theology is! You’ve indicated that you are a follower of Jesus Christ. Past that it’s up to you to work out your own salvation with “fear and trembling”. I’m sure the rest of us would appreciate the same consideration.

I choose to follow THE INSTRUCTION MANUAL. What are you going to believe, The Written Word, in its entirety or the teachings and commandments of men?

If that’s not a “holier than thou” personal attack on my spiritual beliefs how would you characterize it? It’s not even true, because you too, are relying on others to help you understand God’s Word. The difference is that I (and others here) rely on 1900+ years of scholarship which has been tested, refined, argued, and sharpened. You are relying (at least in part) on a website that claims that both Martin Luther AND the Catholic Church were (or are) demonic or possessed.

I think yโ€™all know what my position on this celebration is.

We’re doing Valentine’s dinner on Sunday since Tuesday is a day in the office, and he’s pretty tired after the 100 mile round trip. Crusher:

What are you going to believe, The Written Word, in its entirety or the teachings and commandments of men?

    From your church’s website:

The New Church, based on the Old and New Testaments, and the writings of Emanuel Swedenborg, teaches how Jesus saves, consistent with our knowledge of a loving God.

The New Church teaches that the Writings of Emanuel Swedenborg reveal a deeper meaning in the scripture, explaining the Bible’s symbolism and showing how the Word of God can be applied to our everyday lives.

So, 1900 years of scholarship by some of the most godly men ever known are rejected as unworthy, so that we can instead follow the teaching of some dude known as Emanuel Swedenborg. Interesting.

Here is how we Catholics look at the faith of other Christians:

838 “The Church knows that she is joined in many ways to the baptized who are honored by the name of Christian, but do not profess the Catholic faith in its entirety or have not preserved unity or communion under the successor of Peter.” Those “who believe in Christ and have been properly baptized are put in a certain, although imperfect, communion with the Catholic Church.” With the Orthodox Churches, this communion is so profound “that it lacks little to attain the fullness that would permit a common celebration of the Lord’s Eucharist.”

That is a far cry from the bigotry trying to be passed off as Biblical scholarship here today. As a Christian I like to think we are all on maybe separate but converging paths. TexMo and I are so close we’re ’bout to sideswipe each other ๐Ÿ˜‰

    From your churchโ€™s website:

I never said that was my church, it is not; please do not assume that you know my church because clearly you do not. I picked that particular website only because it has a clear historical understanding of the origins of valentines day, aka lupercalia. Further, I said I was not even addressing the other things that may or may not be found on the site, I was trying to restrict all the commentary strictly to the celebration in question. Others chose to bring in extraneous stuff, and once again, I am not even going to address that particular site’s opinion of the Catholic Church as it is not relevant to the discussion. Let’s try to limit the discussion solely to valentines day (lupercalia) and the relevant Scripture.
Now that I am back at the house, I have better tools at my disposal.

The original scriptural text cited was

    Deut 12:28-31
ords which I command you, in order that it may be well with you and your sons after you forever, for you will be doing what is good and right in the sight of the Lord your God.

29 “When the Lord your God cuts off before you the nations which you are going in to dispossess, and you dispossess them and dwell in their land, 30 beware that you are not ensnared to follow them, after they are destroyed before you, and that you do not inquire after their gods, saying,’ How do these nations serve their gods, that I also may do likewise?’ 31 “You shall not behave thus toward the Lord your God, for every abominable act which the Lord hates they have done for their gods; for they even burn their sons and daughters in the fire to their gods.

32 “Whatever I command you, you shall be careful to do; you shall not add to nor take away from it.
    NASB

Question #1: A: Is there anything anywhere in The Scriptures that describes the festival of valentines day in any way? B: Is there even the slightest suggestion that HIS PEOPLE should engage in that celebration?
Question #2: A: Is there a historical record of the origins of valentines day, formerly known as lupercalia? B: Who practiced this festival, did they fear the Elohim of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob of the Old Testament or were they pagans?
Question #3: Was the festival of lupercalia an act of pagan worship?

Because I cite traditions that are of pagan origin that are practiced today by Christians, THAT IS NOT THE SAME THING AS ME CALLING THOSE PEOPLE PAGANS. I draw a huge distinction between the two.
I am not now, nor have I ever called into question anyone’s integrity or their relationship with The Creator.

Question #1 The answer to both A and B is NO.
Question #2 A: Yes, and I cited but one example. B: They were Roman polytheistic pagans.
Question #3: I would have to say yes as it was a fertility rite.

With these answers, what can we conclude about whether we should celebrate it or not based on the Scripture cited above? Do you agree with the answers to the questions?

Please do not bring in extraneous stuff that does not have to do with the narrow issue I raised. The other positions on the site I linked are irrelevant to this particular discussion.

Well, what would you expect – you appear to be remarkably reticent to discuss your church, it’s roots and beliefs. When you cite a website that appears to embody your particular theology, what do you expect us to think.

    As for your questionaire:

1A, B: Irrelevant. The Bible doesn’t mention or suggest that we celebrate the 4th of July either.

2A, B: As nobody here has suggested, In any way, that we celebrate the fest of Lupercalia, once again irrelevant.

    3. Sure, it was indeed a pagan fertility rite. So what?

The festival began with the sacrifice by the Luperci (or the flamen dialis) of two male goats and a dog. Next two young patrician Luperci were led to the altar, to be anointed on their foreheads with the sacrificial blood, which was wiped off the bloody knife with wool soaked in milk, after which they were expected to smile and laugh.
The sacrificial feast followed, after which the Luperci cut thongs from the skins of the victims, which were called februa, dressed themselves in the skins of the sacrificed goats, in imitation of Lupercus, and ran round the walls of the old Palatine city, the line of which was marked with stones, with the thongs in their hands in two bands, striking the people who crowded near. Girls and young women would line up on their route to receive lashes from these whips. This was supposed to ensure fertility, prevent sterility in women and ease the pains of childbirth.

The next time you see me running up and down the streets naked flogging girls and women with thongs cuts from goats and dogs I’ve sacrificed, feel free to call me out and accuse me of practicing pagan rites.

In the meantime I’ll buy my wife a present, tell her I love her and celebrate our marriage. I suspect God will be pleased with the result.

    8 Bonehead,

Sometimes a cigar is just a cigar and a holiday is just a holiday.

My Pops could be pretty pig headed and racist at times. I remember that
he observed that Valentine’s Day was a creation of business people to
sell candy, flowers, and cards during a slump between Christmas and
Easter. Luckily, I did not take to heart every lesson he taught.

It is no secret that many so-called Christian holidays have no relationship
to the practices early Christians. I have always understood that many of the
holidays and some of the Catholic Church practices were accomodations
to the pagan population by the Emperor Constantine to “sell” the Christian
    religion to the Roman pagans.

So what! Isn’t it the idea that counts?

If it works for me (or not) what business is it of yours?

It is a lot better to evaluate a Christian by the way he (she) conducts themselves
and how they treat others. Actions still speak louder than words. Verse quoters
and scripture experts are not Christians unless they live the life and the example of their
life is sufficent testimony to all.

I am a very lapsed Catholic, but I have a Baptist brother-in-law whose life as a Christian is an example to all. He does not talk and blather his beliefs, but teaches by the example of his life.

#28 Shannon: you quoted Galatians and I don’t think you got it quite right. There were Judiazers (those who said you had to keep all of the oral tradition in order to be saved) that were plaguing the Galations. Slavish devotion to the oral tradition, as opposed to the Written Law, is a meaningless work of the flesh. Keeping the Written Law is Righteousness:

    Deut 6:22-25
22 ‘Moreover, the Lord showed great and distressing signs and wonders before our eyes against Egypt, Pharaoh and all his household; 23 He brought us out from there in order to bring us in, to give us the land which He had sworn to our fathers.’ 24 “So the Lord commanded us to observe all these statutes, to fear the Lord our God for our good always and for our survival, as it is today. 25 “It will be righteousness for us if we are careful to observe all this commandment before the Lord our God, just as He commanded us.
    Zeph 2:1-3

2 Gather yourselves together, yes, gather,

2 Before the decree takes effect โ€”

12 And indeed, all who desire to live godly in Christ Jesus will be persecuted. 13 But evil men and impostors will proceed from bad to worse, deceiving and being deceived. 14 You, however, continue in the things you have learned and become convinced of, knowing from whom you have learned them; 15 and that from childhood you have known the sacred writings which are able to give you the wisdom that leads to salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus. 16 All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness; 17 that the man of God may be adequate, equipped for every good work.

    New Covenant:

    Jer 31:27-34

    A New Covenant

27 “Behold, days are coming,” declares the Lord, “when I will sow the house of Israel and the house of Judah with the seed of man and with the seed of beast. 28 “As I have watched over them to pluck up, to break down, to overthrow, to destroy and to bring disaster, so I will watch over them to build and to plant,” declares the Lord.

29 “In those days they will not say again,
‘The fathers have eaten sour grapes,
And the children’s teeth are set on edge.’

30 “But everyone will die for his own iniquity; each man who eats the sour grapes, his teeth will be set on edge.

31 “Behold, days are coming,” declares the Lord, “when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah, 32 not like the covenant which I made with their fathers in the day I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt, My covenant which they broke, although I was a husband to them,” declares the Lord. 33 “But this is the covenant which I will make with the house of Israel after those days,” declares the Lord, “I will put My law within them and on their heart I will write it; and I will be their God, and they shall be My people. 34 “They will not teach again, each man his neighbor and each man his brother, saying, ‘Know the Lord,’ for they will all know Me, from the least of them to the greatest of them,” declares the Lord, “for I will forgive their iniquity, and their sin I will remember no more.”
    NASU

When the New Covenant was uttered in the Old Testament what do you think was meant by HIS LAW? I submit that it was The Torah then, just like now.

Now when we read Revelation ch 3, we may glean a little more understanding. Remember that Messiah said “The Father and I are One”. When HE said that The Father’s Ways were Written in The Torah. The Father’s Ways and Messiah’s Ways are One; it has to be this way or they are not one.

Because Messiah said that He and The Father are One, then: “and have kept My word’ means that Messiah’s Word is the same as Father’s Word, and The Torah is Father’s Word.
next: “and have not denied My name.” That is recognizing Who Messiah was and Why He came and boldly proclaiming it.

I figure that most if not all of you will reject completely what I have said here, or will try to twist it into something that I did not say. That is the absolute truth, had I known of all the postings on that site I would have avoided it as it caused much unnecessary consternation that was not relevant to the narrow question of the origins of valentines day and should we participate in it.

The fact that the site has many positions that happen to mirror mine makes it pretty clear that I am not alone in at least some of my beliefs. I do not think it is productive or proper to speak to Catholics and tell them that the Catholic Church is the whore of babylon as that will shut down any and all understanding. I am pretty sure that I have never made or agreed with that statement. Quoting specific and cogent Scripture is all that I have tried to do. It is no secret that many so-called Christian holidays have no relationship

#67 Ifn you wanna buy her roses and chocolates on any other day, no problem whatsoever in my book. On that particular day, in celebration of that day; well that really speaks for itself, doesn’t it? Where does the whole idea of hunting for easter eggs come from? Where does the idea of dying eggs for the easter celebration come from? What do eggs have to do with springtime or the resurrection and where is that association in Scripture? How does the answer to those 3 questions square with the Scripture quotation cited in #8 above?

    Itโ€™s a game. Nothing more.

If that is what you choose to believe, I can’t really do anything about that other than quote what HIS WORD actually says.
    I will close with this:

    Rom 8:6-9
6 For the mind set on the flesh is death, but the mind set on the Spirit is life and peace, 7 because the mind set on the flesh is hostile toward God; for it does not subject itself to the law of God, for it is not even able to do so; 8 and those who are in the flesh cannot please God. 9 However, you are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God dwells in you.
    NASB

The Law of God is spiritual with earthly application, it has to have earthly applications because it governs us and we live on earth. The teachings and commandments of men are fleshly.

In 1961, they played Del Shannon’s Runaway about every 12 minutes.

Few people realize what a pioneer McClendon was in the radio business and that he invented the Top 40 format used across the nation. There’s a radio museum in Dallas’ West End funded by the McClendon family with a lot of the memorabilia from his career.

Texas is one of the eight states that negotiated $25B in agreements with five mortgage lenders accused of violating state laws with regards to confiscation of homeowners property and such through foreclosure. Of the $25B settlement, Texas homeowners may receive $287M with another $141M going to the state.
I cannot express how traumatic it is to nearly lose a house due to the scams these organizations pulled to make money off of foreclosure actions.
As a result of their malfeasance, many homeowners may be faced with paying mortgage fees to companies that may not legally hold the note. And the actual owner’s will show up someday.

    Bonecrusher;

I really don’t want to extend this dialogue so this’ll probably be the only question I’ll offer. You cited Deoteronomy to fobid the worship of false gods. That’s good. Likewise, as you well know the Shema, YHWH was the only God Isreal was to worship. Well, isn’t that what the Christian Easter celebration is doing?

And I don’t see how buying chocolates is going to lead to my worshipping Baal or any other false god.

UPDATE: Eating chocolates might give me pimples though.

    Bonecrusher;
I really don’t want to extend this dialogue so this’ll probably be the only question I’ll offer. You cited Deoteronomy to fobid the worship of false gods. That’s good. … she wants chocolate (and beef) more than usual.

I have it on good authority that both Molech and Chemosh were known to gnosh on chocolate covered jerky.

Don’t mess with Dad! Apparently a teenager got a little smart alecky with her parents on Facebook. Dad posted a video response on her wall. The best part comes at 7:15 into the clip.

It’s good to see a parent that cares enough to discipline their child.

Kinda like the daughter’s sphincter, once she sees that video. Or hears about it from her friends.

    Or finds her laptop.
