The U.S. Treasury Department boosted its estimate of government losses in the $85 billion auto bailout by $170 million. In the government’s latest report to Congress this month, the Treasury upped its estimate to $23.77 billion, up from $23.6 billion. Last fall, the government dramatically boosted its forecast of losses on the rescues of General Motors Co., Chrysler Group LLC and their finance units from $14 billion to $23.6 billion…..
Oh, and on top of that $24 billion you can add another $13 billion, according to bankruptcy expert David Skeel. He says Treasury estimates “omit the cost of the previously accumulated tax losses GM can apply against future profits, thanks to a special post-bailout government gift. The ordinary rule is that these losses can only be preserved after bankruptcy if the company is restructured—not if it’s sold. By waiving this rule, the government saved GM at least $12 to $13 billion in future taxes, a large chunk of which (not all, because taxpayers also own GM stock) came straight out of taxpayers’ pockets.”

Wrong, wrong, and wrong.
Unfortunately, I can’t fix them. Our network nazis have the site blocked.
I’ll give you one of them. See if you can guess the other two. The middle one is #14.

I may be changing my choice in the presidential primary from Medically Induced Coma to Rick Santorum.

Rick Santorum has now won more primary events than Mittens. Surely Mittens knows how strong the “not Romney” contingent is within the R base voters; is his ego that wissin big that he thinks he can overcome such a huge negative within the base? The only time he wins other than in home state (essentially) or heavy Mormon states (Nev) is when he goes hard negative (Flarda); this is a huge turnoff to most people and is not a winning strategy in the long haul.
If Mittens or O is the answer it musta been a really dumb question.
Mittens changing positions on foundational issues, like abortion and gun control demonstrates a lack of principle and his refusal to outright denounce Romneycare and/or Ocare demonstrates that he is a committed big government nannystatist and is not to be trusted.Hopefully the decency that still resides in the man will convince him to bow out, regardless of how much money he has. All of his money and his pac money will not likely buy him the presidency, but could likely put JugEars back in for another 4 years.

Current Delegate Count:
Gingrich 29*
Paul 8
Romney 86*
Santorum 38**Not accurate totals as all the delegates from Flarda were awarded to Romney, however R party central stated clearly that if Flarda moved up their primary they would get their delegates cut in half and would be proportionally awarded – the winner take all provision would be removed. This means that just over 25 of the 50 Flarda delegates now awarded to Romney would have to be split between Noot and Rick.
Accounting/estimating for the above would put the top three with in 10 delegates or so of each other, with Luap Nor rendered as irrelevant. This race is still wide open as less than 10% of the total delegates are currently committed/bound to a particular candidate. -

HEADLINE:Drones over U.S. get OK by Congress
Look! Up in the sky! Is it a bird? Is it a plane? It’s … a drone, and it’s watching you. That’s what privacy advocates fear from a bill Congress passed this week to make it easier for the government to fly unmanned spy planes in U.S. airspace.

Good afternoon Hamsters. Winter continues, but softly, with party cloudy skies and barely 60 at 2 pm. Valentine banners on the front porch sway now and then in the transient breeze. The solo American elm in the front yard is leafing out, much too early, while the native cedar elms in the front pasture are barren, as they should be now. A second flowerbed has gone barren of pansies thanks to some woodsy critter(s) munching at night. Two other beds seem to be untouched. Hmmm. Too late to replant pansies and too early for spring flowers.
Regarding Rick Santorum’s trifecta Tuesday, nice to see that someone who has strong conservative beliefs and has the wit to keep a civil tongue in his head can win. Will send a campaign donation.
Texas has 155 delegates to the Republican National Convention, second only to California’s ~170. We have a big stick and shall have something to say, perhaps because of rather than despite the lawsuits to delay the primary because of redistricting whining. It is to our advantage to have the primary/caucus season be a real contest long into spring. 🙂

Um….does the word “confused” mean anything to you? Or maybe it’s “desperate”?
The world’s greatest snow-capped peaks, which run in a chain from the Himalayas to Tian Shan on the border of China and Kyrgyzstan, have lost no ice over the last decade, new research shows.
The discovery has stunned scientists, who had believed that around 50bn tonnes of meltwater were being shed each year and not being replaced by new snowfall.
/snip
“Our results and those of everyone else show we are losing a huge amount of water into the oceans every year,” said Prof John Wahr of the University of Colorado. “People should be just as worried about the melting of the world’s ice as they were before.”That crashing sound? It’s more of the global warming argument falling.

They seemed to be talking about someone confessing he committed a crime to a Baptist minister. The argument is that is the minister were to testify that he would have undue credibility, which would put the presumption of innocence at risk.Catholic priests are bound by their vows not to divulge anything they’ve heard during the Sacrament of Reconciliation to anyone in any manner. They take that vow very, very, very seriously. Many have chosen death over breaking that vow.

I think all discussions between any person and their spiritual adviser is sacred. I don’t care if he’s Baptist, Buddhist, or Catholic. I understand their argument that clergy would have an elevated level of respect by the jury — but my argument is that the clergy should never be put in that position to begin with. The argument should not even exist.

The very fact that the argument does exist while at the same time a spouse, lawyer or doctor would never be compelled or even allowed to testify, is illustrative.

An interesting case, apparently the minister broke the rules of confession and the dense is attempting to get his testimony thrown out. As this appears to be the event that brought it to the attention of the police, Mr. Bragg (the rapist) may go free.
I see a couple of issues here, is the clergy so bound by their confidentiality that they cannot report heinous crimes that are an affront to their convictions to the police? And second, should the police (and the public) be penalized when it comes to light that the discovery of the crime came about as a result of privileged communication. FWIW the same issues apply whether it’s clerical, attorney or medical.
The issue has come up in other states, for example physicians in many states are compelled to report child abuse; this may be the first time the topic has come up in in Michigan. -

Guess it depends on whether it was your daughter raped or killed, but that’s why family members aren’t on jurys. BTW, I do agree the minister, priest or whatever would have an elevated status to the jury. Tough one.

Just returned from Cheddars in Clear Lake, after waiting 15 minutes, it took 45 minutes for the food to come out; they were swamped! On a Wednesday! The manager comped Mrs’ Shamaal’s delicious steak though.

I knew it! Cats are
pwussies. [Why do cats bury their feces]In the wild, dominant cats – including those of the Panthera genus, such as lions, tigers , leopards and jaguars – that are competing for territory often do not bury their excrement as a way of signaling that they want to claim a particular area. Smaller, weaker or more submissive wild cats bury their feces as a way of ensuring that dominant cats do not feel challenged.
