Missed by most in the Texans game was the streaker in the third quarter.

I missed the streaker, I missed the game, and I feel as if I didn’t miss anything. Pro football, like most other pro sports, is rigged by the gamblers and the TV networks to assure optimal viewership which is why the officials rather than the players often determine the outcome of the game. Sorry (not really) to be such a skeptic, but that’s the way it is. But it does provide some relief for public servants as criminals seem to enjoy the sport and go off duty to watch for a few hours.
Now I can look forward to the completely unfounded claim that Superbowl Sunday is also Wife Beater Sunday.

Congress needs to give back their pay for the last year:
HEADLINE: Congress logs most futile legislative year on record
Outlook for House, Senate also shows scant accomplishment for ‘12 sessionHow much of this lack of accomplishment can be laid at the feet of Harry Reidiculous?
Furthermore, an analysis by The Washington Times of the scope of such activities as time spent in debate, number of conference reports produced and votes taken on the House and Senate floors found that Congress set a record for legislative futility by accomplishing less in 2011 than any other year in history.
The Senate’s record was weakest by a huge margin, according to the futility index, and the House had its 10th-worst session on record.
BONECRUSHER PREDICTION: Ifn the Rs gain a landslide victory on the down ballot races (in spite of Romney) and that victory yields 61 -62 seats in the Senate for the Rs, then Harry, the [remember our promise? – wb] from Nevada, will resign.

#2 – I beg to differ with you about the “negative vibes.” See below for more of my rationale:
#6 – Huntsman out? Who was he and what was he running for anyway?
#9 – Congress deserves a raise for the results of their most recent session. The fact that they accomplished virtually nothing is excellent news and should be praised by all who really understand what is going on. Compare this to the previous Congress who did get a lot done – we got Obamacare, Porkulus, and Lord only knows what else still has not popped up from that session yet. A “do nothing” Congress is a good Congress. I’ll always vote for a congresscritter who would promise to go away fishing and never show up except to vote “no” on whatever issue is under debate.
Now, gotta to get dressed up and clean my weapons for the parades. Have a nice holiday.

I worked until after 1:00 am again. I finally have gotten ONE set of our books – the most important one – ready for the CPA’s office to do a final cleanup on things I can’t fix. I think Hubby may finally realize what my workload is like. Two weeks of wee-morning work hours might sink through his consciousness. I feel somewhat hung over, but I’m going to make the best of the day. The sun is shining, the bees are buzzing, the weather is warm – after I make my trip to the CPA office, I’m planning on moving some dirt. I just checked, and the dirt pile above ground level is very workable. I need to get away from my desk for a while and do something physical. My wrist is still a concern, but I’ll be careful. Having a working wrist won’t mean anything if I GO CRAZY!

#25 Homer: That problem is real easy to fix. Simply drop about 15 cajuns and tell them that they (the rats) are hard to clean, they taste bad and the limit is only 6 per day. Ifn you drop the cajuns today, with enough ammo, they ought to have them wiped out by Friday or Saturday.

After the downgrades comes the downward spiral
Downward spiral perhaps should be death spiral, or a spin-out, kind of like what a cockroach does when you hit it with the Raid.
The following quote needs repair:The eurozone has fallen into a spiral of downgrades, falling economic output, rising debt and further downgrades. A recession has just started. 1) Greece is now likely to default on most of its debts and may even have to leave the eurozone. When that happens, 2) the spotlight will fall immediately on Portugal, and the next contagious round of downgrades will begin.
1) Greece is a zombie, not alive and yet undead. As far as leaving the eurozone, that may not be significant as the eurozone is doomed.
2) The spot light on Portugal will have to be shared as Spain and Ireland are next on the schizzle list.When those 4countries default, and they all will and soon, then the rest of the house of cards that is the eurozone will crumble. There is too much collective debt in the zone and not enough resources to service that debt. That debt is currently valued at face value and the holders of that debt will be lucky to see 10%.

Interesting poll data and commentary.
The second finding is from Rasmussen Reports, a matchup between President Obama and Ron Paul among likely voters. I find it remarkable that Obama leads Paul only 43-37%. Paul is a candidate with strong but limited appeal, sort of like anchovies on pizza. It is extraordinary that an incumbent president can’t get more than 43% of likely voters to back him against Paul, who is widely regarded as a fringe candidate. This strikes me as evidence of strong resistance to Obama among most voters.
Anchovies. He hit that one right. Those things are a foul, foul, foul “food substance”. Also, I would substitute “fringe candidate” with “kook”.

Good afternoon Hamsters. The morning presented a southerly wind, incrased humidity, and 60 at 6 rising to 78 at noon. Relief from dry skin arrives for a few days until the next cold front swoops in, and the opportunity to finally sweep up the reasonably dry storm debris from last Monday presents itself. Plants hauled up on the back porch next to the house can go back out, so the porch can resume its normal state. For a while.
A few red oak leaves cling to the trees, and the live oaks begin looking like they will soon lose theirs, but everything else is winter barren. It is what here passes for the dead of winter; farther and farther north the dead of winter is quite different and fierce this year.
Happy to live here.The grounding and capsize of the Costa Concordia off Tuscany brings thoughts of the fall cruise we took. Our ship–without incident– took the same route on the way to Livorno as the jumpoff port for the tour to Florence and Pisa. How in the world any captain could miss the proper sealane is incomprehensible, particulary when his ship makes the trip weekly. Hope the Italian judges throw the law library and the building containing it at him.
Spouse thinks our ship, the MS Noordam,was berthed next to that cruise ship in one Mediterranean port. I vaguely recall an Italian ship near ours but not the name. The only one I definitely recall is the Cunard Queen Victoria opposite ours in the Port of Naples. This incident makes one even more careful of which company one travels with.

It’s simple. Outlaw the big heavy tv’s and, through government subsidy, give everyone a nice 72″ flat screen – with free installation. That is probably why they are reporting these acts of stupidity.

While watching it, I half-expected to see Michael Moore, the creator of “Roger and Me” and “Bowling for Columbine,” walk onto the screen to hammer the point home.
Mr. Moore half-expected it himself, even if the film was paid for by supporters of Newt Gingrich.
“I wondered who they stole from my crew,” Mr. Moore said in a phone interview. “It was fun to hear what I have been saying for 20 years, not just by any Republican candidate, but Newt Gingrich.”

With regards to project Gutenberg, if you scroll down the page to the Volunteer section there is a link for Distributed Proofreaders.
What Gutenberg does is scan the pages then uses an OCR software Application to interpret the text. Needless to say with many of these books, the OCR is sporadic. Enter the proofreader volunteer who compares the original and the scan and flags errors.This is immensely fascinating and rewarding work, with an absolutely swell group of people. If one has the time and an interest in the written word, this is just the ticket.

With regards to project Gutenberg, if you scroll down the page to the Volunteer section there is a link for Distributed Proofreaders.
What Gutenberg does is scan the pages then uses an OCR software Application to interpret the text. Needless to say with many of these books, the OCR is sporadic. Enter the proofreader volunteer who compares the original and the scan and flags errors.
This is immensely fascinating and rewarding work, with an absolutely swell group of people. If one has the time and an interest in the written word, this is just the ticket. -
I read an article a few years ago about how Project Gutenburg had come up with method of using the ubiquitous “captcha” challenge-response systems to have humans determine questionable OCRs while they’re posting on blogs etc. Wonderful idea.

Yesterday I posted a Houston Chronicle column about a conclave of religious folks getting together in Texas to endorse an agreed to candidate. After a couple rounds, they came up with Santorum in first place and Newt in second. Privately I thought it odd that the group would coalesce around a Roman Catholic and a newly minted Roman Catholic, but what the heck it’s about time that rifts were healed.
In at least one instance, the witness said, a participant was seen writing Mr. Santorum´s name on four separate ballots and putting all four in the box.
Granted it’s The Washington Times which is barely one step above Wing Nut Daily, but it’s hard to dismiss. I believe Dan Patrick was there, perhaps he has some insight gained from all those years as a political commentator.

Baby Girl got her hard cast placed on her arm today. I about freaked out seeing a dip in one part of the cast thinking that was reflective of her arm bending. It turns out though that the nurse had to hold her arm in place for the bones to align correctly which for whatever reason wasn’t done so beforehand. I’ve no idea how common this is with broken bones.
Baby Girl chose a red cast and is having people sign it tonight.

The difference is Democrats always anonymously stab their kin to death in the dark, in the middle of the night, while Republicans prefer to shoot their family members in the street in broad daylight.

We Republicans have always maintained ID should be required for voting. ;>)
It reminds me, though, of how Democratic Rep. Artur Davis of Alabama retired from office and came home to find black Democrats using fraudulent voter tactics against other black Democrats and all the sudden became an advocate of voter ID requirements.

As the nation celebrates ML King day, let’s pause to hear what the candidates have to say in their eagerness to assume the mantle of Dr King’s legacy:
Rick Perry:
He urged the audience to take the opportunity to send messages that highlight the same values that King espoused and pointed to his action as governor of Texas to appoint Wallace Jefferson, the descendant of slaves, as the first African-American justice to the Texas Supreme Court and later to elevate Jefferson to the position of chief justice.
“That is our challenge as Americans,” he said. “Don’t just talk to me. Show me! Show me the power of Martin Luther King. Show me the power of what you believe in your heart.”Newt Gingrich
Gingrich told the audience that the first bill he co-sponsored when he came to Congress was to create the King holiday. He praised King for the “passion of his vision” and noted that King, as both a political activist and a pastor, was “totally committed to freeing human beings and saving human beings.”
I won’t sully the occasion by posting other things they’ve said.
A short 10 question quiz regarding Dr. King, I missed question #9.

Heh. There are other big-time Democrat organizations that apparently understand the importance of controlling fraudulent voter tactics, presumably only when it affects their elections.

Just one more conservative paper that couldn’t make it in a competitive market.
Of course, everyone should have bought Pinch Sulzberger stock back in 2002 when the New York Times was at $53 a share….
….oh, wait, it closed at $7.98 a share today.

And still putting out a heck of a paper! I meant to reply to your post the other day regarding the decline in grammar and the quality of the opinion pieces at the paper, but time got away from me. Shannon? also had a wonderful thread about how the Protestants f’ed up the public school system so as to keep the Catholics out, but that too was when I was putting in 16 hour days. This week it is slow.
Seriously, I hate to see any rag go under. But let’s face it, National Review never made a profit and WSJ has been hemorrhaging for sometime. It’s only for the prestige that Faux News keeps it around. -

As far as I recall, photo IDs were always required. Unlike state elections that sends a voter registration card to your residence that you must bring in, union votes require an ID.

The WSJ brand puts whatever value the NYT retains to shame. Rupert didn’t buy a pig in poke like the Sulzberger oinker – he bought the real thing. Carlos Slim will cash out on the real estate and other hard assets. There are plenty of institutions that will cease to exist in our lifetimes, the NYT, the Anglican Church and some other Protestant flavors, modern day liberalism, bookstores and so on….

So when the Left trots out the memory of Reverend King like a trick pony in a sideshow and shames his legacy, it’s okay, but if any other American mentions his name, it’s really, really, really bad.

Owner Jim Aakre says the trick to getting Curly will be to sneak up on her around a corner or somewhere that she has limited escape routes and grab one of the goat’s horns or her halter.
If all she was wearing was a halter, I can understand her abandoning her post. 😉

I just realized nine years ago today I drove into Fort Lee, Bergen County, New Jersey for a four to six month contractual stint after which I was moving on to Europe and then Moscow.
Nine years in captivity to a 106 lb. brunette and no one all this time has offered to pay the ransom.

Voter ID laws are statewide. These are the laws which have been in place in Texas for years:
Your voter application asks for one of three identification numbers. If you have not received any of these, you are still eligible to register to vote, but you will be required to provide proof of your identity at the polling place. Acceptable identification includes:
A driver’s license or personal identification card issued to you by the Texas Department of Public Safety. You may also bring a similar document issued to you by an agency of another state, even if the license or card has expired;
A form of identification that contains your photograph and establishes your identity;
A birth certificate or other document confirming birth that is admissible in a court of law and establishes the person’s identity;
Your United States citizenship papers;
Your United States passport;
Official mail addressed to you by a governmental entity;
A copy of a current utility bill, bank statement, government check, paycheck, or other government document that shows your name and address; or
Any other form of identification prescribed by the Texas Secretary of State. -

#83 KatFish Ain’t it the truth! I spent many an hour in my cousins’ 52 Chevy roaming the dirt roads in south Alabama, we started this before even he was old enough to get a DL. I was 2 years younger than him so it was my job to occasionally get out, lift the hood and unhook the gear shifter when it got stuck between first and second, (three on the tree). It had vacuum wipers and when you accelerated they’d barely move, then when you coasted downhill they would haul A$$. It was one tough truck, and they don’t make them like that anymore…..Sigh, Great Memories. 😀

You got that right; I’m easily intimidated.
The guy said something about I’d get a letter saying I was rejected or I’d get a letter if I was accepted, I don’t recall which. In either case I didn’t get a letter.
This last time I just showed them the registration card, signed my name upside down in a ledger and I was home free. Just like every other time. Now I understand that this year one has to have an ID from the DPS, join the military or pay someone for a CCH license. Kinda easy to see how that can be interpreted as a poll tax.
Of the 12 DPS locations in Harris County, I wonder how many are within the 610 loop?Yeah, Those Quackers aren’t as dumb as they look.

Ay Chihuahua.
A voter will be required to show one of the following forms of photo identification at the polling location before the voter will be permitted to cast a vote.
Texas Driver’s License issued by the Department of Public Safety (“DPS”)
Texas Election Identification Certificate issued by DPS;
Texas Personal Identification Card issued by DPS;
Texas Concealed Handgun License issued by DPS;
United States Military Identification Card containing the person’s photograph;
United States Citizenship Certificate containing the person’s photograph; or
United States Passport.Kinda hard to interpret something as a poll tax when it is free.

I told you using those death certificates for ID on the fourth and fifth attempts to vote were not going to work, but you wouldn’t listen.
And carrying in that old tombstone for identification was, shall I say, a truly bad and tasteless idea.
Democrats can get away with that stuff in New Jersey, Chicago or New Orleans, but it’s a little more difficult in your neighborhood.

That’s what we did, and drove back to the church, had a thanksgiving
dinner that couldn’t be beat, went to sleep and didn’t get up until the
next morning, when we got a phone call from officer Obie. He said, “Kid,
we found your name on an envelope at the bottom of a half a ton of
garbage, and just wanted to know if you had any information about it.” And
I said, “Yes, sir, Officer Obie, I cannot tell a lie, I put that envelope
under that garbage.”After speaking to Obie for about fourty-five minutes on the telephone we
finally arrived at the truth of the matter and said that we had to go down
and pick up the garbage, and also had to go down and speak to him at the
police officer’s station. So we got in the red VW microbus with the
shovels and rakes and implements of destruction and headed on toward the
police officer’s station. -
