Friday Philly News Open Comments

Philadelphia is vying for the title “Florida del Norte”.
Woman says her fake penis got her fired

Pauline Davis, 45, wore the device to the J&J Snack Foods plant in Moosic, Lackawanna County, while she contemplated a gender change, according to a federal civil-rights complaint filed Wednesday in U.S. District Court in Scranton. She confided in several co-workers about the device, and someone told management, according to the complaint.

Maybe it had to do with it sticking out like the foremast on a schooner.
Nutter Fumes After 3 Philadelphia Teens Killed In Apparent Reprisal Shooting Unfortunately, it’s not as good as it sounds. Instead of just a random nut being upset, it turns out that “Nutter” is the name of the Mayor of Philly.

The outraged mayor also had strong words for the parents of Philadelphia’s youth, telling them “not to act like idiots and a–holes.”
While Nutter says he is gratified about the quick arrest in the multiple shooting, he is fuming that the victims were out on Tuesday night apparently looking for trouble. And he blames their parents.

So, only now does JugEars want to make govt more efficient and he wants cooperation from the Rs? I think after the latest insult of the not-in-recess recess appointments, the most he could possibly expect from the Rs is a polite ‘go pound sand.’
The problem here is that consolidating redundant agencies is a really great idea, only to be surpassed by outright agency elimination. These are things that need to be done and should have been done in year one, not year 3 during the heat of the R primaries – the stench of re-election politics is overwhelming. I am reasonably sure that the Rs are finished with being treated as the basement occupants of the outhouse; lets see if they start acting accordingly.

No-nonsense local politicians like Philly’s Mayor Nutter are the only hope for ever cleaning up dysfunctional inner cities. And that may be a slim hope at best.

#4 – Once more JE pulls a fast one on the Reps and puts them in a corner. When he comes up with this brilliant idea of trying to consolidate a few meaningless agencies and gain additional powers, the R’s in Congress (at least the House because nothing happens in the Senate) should already have passed a list of proposed consolidation – whereupon they could say “Sure, Mr. President, here’s where we will agree to start.” Always playing defense, playing PC, trying to be mamby-pamby milque toast, crying, and getting trapped into political no-wins seems to be an inherent trait of moderate Reps.

In other news, keep it up Mayor Nutter.

Could it possibly be that Nutter represents the crack in the wall of the “gangsta” mentality in the well tanned community? Is it possible that all this hip-hop mentality is finally being viewed by as the cultural suicide pill that it represents? Could the affected group(s) possibly start to wake up to the enslavement of the liberals and come out of the darkness and into the light of conservatism?

It’s not Bushes fault anymore. Housing bubble fueled recession laid on Bernake’s and Geithner’s doorstep by their own admission.
They were warned about it, pooh-poohed it and did nothing,

    Politics
Documents show Bernanke thought economy could pull off ‘soft landing’ from falling home prices
    Published January 13, 2012
    Reuters

WASHINGTON – Ben Bernanke presided over his first meeting as Federal Reserve chairman in March 2006 believing the nation’s economy could pull off a “soft landing” from falling home prices. Three months later, Bernanke had begun to grasp that he and others had underestimated the risk housing posed to the economy.

Newly released transcripts of Fed meetings during Bernanke’s first year as chairman show that, among Fed officials, he often expressed the most concern about housing. But no official, according to the transcripts, recognized the extent of the damage a housing bubble would cause. A year later, the housing market’s collapse helped send the nation into its worst recession since the Great Depression.

In fact, Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner, then a Fed official, expressed confidence in September 2006 that “collateral damage” from housing could be avoided. The transcripts released Thursday covered the eight meetings of the central bank’s chief policy-making body, the Federal Open Market Committee, during 2006. That included the last meeting of Federal Reserve Chairman Alan Greenspan in January of that year and Bernanke’s first meeting in March after he had succeeded Greenspan as chairman.

The Fed releases minutes of the FOMC discussions three weeks after the meetings but full transcripts do not come out until five years later.

The transcripts for 2006 show that at first Bernanke did not express concern about the cooling of the housing market after a boom that had pushed sales and home prices to record levels.

“I agree with most of the commentary that the strong fundamentals support a relatively soft landing in housing,” Bernanke told his follow FOMC members at his first meeting as chairman in March.

Also in March, Bernanke said, “I think we are unlikely to see growth being derailed by the housing market, but I do want us to be prepared for some quarter-to-quarter fluctuations,”

At his second meeting as chairman in May, Bernanke still seemed fairly confident. “So far we are seeing, at worst, an orderly decline in the housing market; but there is still, I think, a lot to be seen as to whether the housing market will decline slowly or more quickly.

However, by the June meeting, Bernanke was expressing more caution saying that the slowdown in housing was “an asset price correction” that bore watching.

“Like any other asset-price correction, it’s very hard to forecast, and consequently it’s an important risk and one that should lead us to be cautious in our policy decisions,” Bernanke said.

By the September meeting, Bernanke sounded even more concerned about the impact on the broader economy from the slowdown in housing.

“I don’t have quite as much confidence as some people around the table that there will be no spillover effect,” Bernanke said.

By contrast, Geithner, who was then president of the Fed’s New York regional bank, expressed more confidence that the economy could weather the troubles in housing, saying the issue would be the impact on consumer and business spending.

“We just don’t see troubling signs yet of collateral damage and we are not expecting much,” Geithner said at the September FOMC meeting.

The discussion by the members of the FOMC, the Fed board members in Washington and 12 regional bank presidents, gave no indication that any of them foresaw the devastating impact that the collapse of the housing bubble would have. The country fell into a deep recession and severe financial crisis that led to the loss of more than 8 million jobs.

Bernanke and other Fed officials have said that they failed to see the severity of the shock waves from the housing bust. But the transcripts of their closed-door discussions in 2006 provide new details about how the central bank was responding to the unfolding crisis.

The transcripts of the final meeting of the year, in December, showed that Bernanke was still expecting that the economy would experience a “soft landing” in which growth would slow enough to cool inflation but not drop into a recession.

His comments came a year before the start of the Great Recession, which economists say began in December 2007 and lasted until June 2009.

Unbelievable blog about a special needs kid. It’s a sad but heart warming story about life with Tripp by an unusually strong and loving Mother. I had to stop several times while reading it, but left with a warm fuzzy feeling knowing that this child is absolutely getting the best care in the world. God bless this lady.

I am from the small town of Ponchatoula, LA. Before I became a Mommy, I worked as a nurse in geriatric/psychiatric. I loved and miss my job, but now that my precious boy is born, I am a 24/7 stay at home Mommy. I dedicate every second of my life to Tripp and I treasure every second that we have together. Though caring for him is a very tough job, I would not trade any of it for a second. Tripp has taught me true love, patience, respect and selflessness. Being a Mommy has changed my life, but being TRIPP’S Mommy has brought so much joy and happiness into my life. I am entrusting Tripp’s life into God’s hands. He knows best. May His will be done-not mine.

Tripp was born on May 14, 2009. He was diagnosed with a rare genetic skin disease called “EB.” Any type of friction on his skin or mucous membranes causes blisters. They told us he would not live to be a year old. Every day he amazes us by his strength. He is a fighter and with all he has been through, he has never given up. He is the strongest person I know. Tripp wakes up each morning with a smile on his face. Every day spent with him is a blessing. God has a special plan for him. I’m just blessed to be able to witness that plan.

On July 8, 1947, 65 years ago, witnesses claim that an unidentified flying object (UFO) with five aliens aboard crashed onto a sheep and mule ranch just outside Roswell , New Mexico . This is a well known incident that many say has long been covered up by the U.S. Air Force and other federal agencies and organizations.

Representative and retired LTC Allen West sent an e-mail over to the Weekly Standard regarding the Marines accused of urinating on enemy casualties. Here it is:

“I have sat back and assessed the incident with the video of our Marines urinating on Taliban corpses. I do not recall any self-righteous indignation when our Delta snipers Shugart and Gordon had their bodies dragged through Mogadishu. Neither do I recall media outrage and condemnation of our Blackwater security contractors being killed, their bodies burned, and hung from a bridge in Fallujah.

“All these over-emotional pundits and armchair quarterbacks need to chill. Does anyone remember the two Soldiers from the 101st Airborne Division who were beheaded and gutted in Iraq?

“The Marines were wrong. Give them a maximum punishment under field grade level Article 15 (non-judicial punishment), place a General Officer level letter of reprimand in their personnel file, and have them in full dress uniform stand before their Battalion, each personally apologize to God, Country, and Corps videotaped and conclude by singing the full US Marine Corps Hymn without a teleprompter.

“As for everyone else, unless you have been shot at by the Taliban, shut your mouth, war is hell.”

Does anyone have any thoughts on why Santorum can’t get rolling ?

Santorum may have made a tactical error by campaigning in NH instead of going straight to SC as Perry did. NH wasn’t going to go for him and all the polls showed it. Anyone who didn’t like any of the other Not-Romnies were registering thier dissatisfaction by voting for Huntsman or Newt. He made news in Iowa, but he benefitted more from Mittens attack ads on Newt than with any message he might have had, but he might could have built on that in SC. He spent money he shouldn’t have in NH and lost the opportunity to do a bit of organizing.

And the Bain flap is drowning out everything else.

It also doesn’t seem to be hurting Newt in SC.

Like it or not, its looking like its going to be a three way race between Newt, Mittens, and Dr. Kookoobananas.

We can hope that each of them takes about 33% of the delegates each, and what comes out of the smoke filled rooms after the 7th ballot is something like DeMint/Rubio or Daniels/Cantor.

A few New Years resolutions from the comedian Bill Maher:

New Rule If you were a Republican in 2011, and you liked Donald Trump, and then you liked Michele Bachmann, and then you liked Rick Perry, and then you liked Herman Cain, and then you liked Newt Gingrich … you can still hate Mitt Romney, but you can’t say it’s because he’s always changing his mind.

New Rule You can’t be against same-sex marriage and for Newt Gingrich. No man has ever loved another man as much as Newt Gingrich loves Newt Gingrich.

New Rule Let’s stop scheduling the presidential election in the same year as the Summer Olympics. I get so exhausted watching those robotic, emotionally stunted, artificial-looking creatures with no real lives striving to do the one thing they’re trained to do that I barely have energy left to watch the Olympics.

The correction at the bottom of the article is priceless.

It looks like the christian Mormon guy’s going to win the Virginia primary. The state went to a federal judge after Perry went to another federal judge to overturn the state law as unconstitutional. The state’s federal judge figured out that the 22nd of December 2011 occurred as scheduled and appeared to be shown on all calendars, even the Mayan ones. He further ruled that there was sufficient time to whine and cry to the federal authorities before the afore mentioned date and that the plaintiffs were acting as “boobs”. 😉

This was pretty harsh language for a case like this, normally judges opinions are couched in legal terms such as suffering from “cranial rectumitis.”

Arizona wants to buy back the State Capitol building they sold a couple years ago. Amazingly it now costs more – filthy capitalists. 😉

“Most of our Capitol complex, including the building we gather in today, is not ours,” Brewer said in her State of the State speech delivered in the House building. “So … to make all of our Capitol truly ours once again, I’m asking that you send me a bill by Statehood Day that allows me to buy back the Capitol.” …
The move will cost the state $105 million out of its current budget surplus. Brewer press aide Matthew Benson said the state has the cash.
Benson acknowledged the state actually got only $81 million for the state House, the Senate and the nine-story executive tower that includes Brewer’s office when it negotiated a “sale-leaseback” arrangement in 2010…”

So the vig seem to be 25% not including the payments that they made in the interim. This woman’s going places in this party.

Humor’s a personal thing, that Bonecrusher got a chuckle out of a line that didn’t do anything for me is a case in point. I’m not that fond of Maher, I have a short attention span and the pedantic jokes become tedious after a while. The pressure to write a weekly show tends to narrow the humor to match the audience and soon you’re given to expressions of shock value. He had a show once, called Politically Incorrect that got stale after a while. He quoted a Susan Sontag piece about Al-Queda bravery once without giving her credit and the show kinda petered out.
