Thursday “Big Brother” Open Comments

The Department of Homeland Security is openly admitting – they are watching you.

(Reuters) – The U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s command center routinely monitors dozens of popular websites, including Facebook, Twitter, Hulu, WikiLeaks and news and gossip sites including the Huffington Post and Drudge Report, according to a government document.

While Hamous.Org did not make the “official list,” many of us read the sites that have been listed:

These include social networking sites Facebook and My Space… more than a dozen sites that monitor, aggregate and enable searches of Twitter messages and exchanges…Among blogs and aggregators on the list are ABC News’ investigative blog “The Blotter;” blogs that cover bird flu; several blogs related to news and activity along U.S. borders (DHS runs border and immigration agencies); blogs that cover drug trafficking and cybercrime; and websites that follow wildfires in Los Angeles and hurricanes.
News and gossip sites on the monitoring list include popular destinations such as the Drudge Report, Huffington Post and “NY Times Lede Blog”, as well as …. techie fare such as the Wired blogs “Threat Level” and “Danger Room.” Numerous blogs related to terrorism and security are also on the list.
Some of the sites on the list are potentially controversial. WikiLeaks is listed for monitoring, even though officials in some other government agencies were warned against using their official computers to access WikiLeaks material because much of it is still legally classified under U.S. government rules.
…Cryptome, … was one of the first websites to post information related to the Homeland Security monitoring program.
Also on the list are JihadWatch and Informed Comment, blogs that cover issues related to Islam through sharp political prisms, which have sometimes led critics to accuse the sites of political bias.
Also on the list are various video and photo-sharing sites, including Hulu, Youtube and Flickr.
While a DHS official involved in the monitoring program confirmed the authenticity of the list, officials authorized to speak for the Department did not immediately respond to an email requesting comment.

Ifn this holds true and the Romneyrroid has this kind of victory in FL, it may all be over but the complaining.

Mitt Romney is now running away with the race in the latest Rasmussen Reports’ survey of the end-of-the-month Florida Republican Primary.

Coming off his decisive win in Tuesday’s New Hampshire Primary, Romney earns 41% support with former House Speaker Newt Gingrich a distant second at 19%. A new telephone survey of Likely Florida Republican Primary Voters finds former U.S. Senator Rick Santorum running third with 15% of the vote.

Texas Congressman Ron Paul and former Utah Governor Jon Hunstman are next with nine percent (9%) and five percent (5%) support respectively. The two men finished second and third in New Hampshire where independents are allowed to vote in the primary. The Florida primary is open to Republican voters only. Texas Governor Rick Perry runs dead last among primary voters in the Sunshine State with two percent (2%) support. One percent (1%) prefers some other candidate in the race, and eight percent (8%) are undecided

WhoooHoooo, Jimmy Dick scores twice as high as ‘none of the above’.

I predict Santorum, Perry, and Huntsman will drop out after SC. That will leave only one “not Romney” candidate left and you’ll see Gingrich’s numbers go up…if he stays in. He’s got some big money donors so he may stay. The Cootchie Doctor, in a class all his own, will of course stay in until the end but it’s looking more and more like the bulk of his support (above the 2-3% neo-Nazi and racist vote) is coming from young hipster voters who supported Obama in 2008. They’re only supporting him because it’s trendy this year since the Occupy XXX movement has floundered and planking/owling are sooo 2011.

#31 M42: That is a great question. I wonder what the correlation is between the 22 blacks and the 20 Ds? I would bet it is close to 90%. This brings me to a position I presented a couple of weeks ago: Unless both sides do not have an incumbent the primaries should be closed to all except registered party members of at least 6 months standing. This will prevent a situation like what we have today where the D is an incumbent and they are inclined to make a push for the weakest, most liberal R because they know that he is the easiest to beat. I want the primaries to be clean and with as little interference as possible from those who wish to do harm, it just makes for a cleaner, more realistic choice and process.

A very good case could be made that the not-Romneys are collectively helping the Romney juggernaut secure the nomination more quickly. They are all fighting over the same voters (in general), so even though they collectively get a sizable share of the votes cast, individually they only get a few percent. This gives the impression that Romney is unstoppable.

If all but one were to drop out, the vote tallies would look much different and closer, which would diminish Romney’s momentum.

    24 Bonehead,

I remember Texas Democrats in the 70’s complaining about the same thing. Of course the Texas Republican Party at that time was more like a cult and the Texas Democratic Party had a small liberal wing and fairly large conservative wing. My Pops used to gripe about some Democrats were actually wolves in sheep’s attire. Come to think of it….the names Connelly, Gramm, and Perry come to mind, although I always thought of John Connelly as a good guy and his party membership was not important to me.

I am sure there is no shortage of “cross-over” voters in the primaries. I rather doubt that it has ever been that significant with strong candidates. Weak candidates suffer and perhaps it is right that they should; especially if they cannot draw enough from their base and independent voters to nullify any cross-over; else sometimes all we get to choose in November are the extremes of both parties.

Besides….Lots of folks have switched parties at a moments notice. See candidates above. If it is good enough for the candidates…sauce for the goose.

So many of these stories appear in the media as a result of a candidate’s publicists and media teams commissioning deeply flawed polls that will show thier candidate with a massive lead. The intent is to demoralize the competition and to attract those voteers who will base thier vote soley on thier desire to be seen as voting for the winner.

Which is why I look at the RCP average.

South Carolina shows Newt to be 9 points behind Mittens.

And in Florida he is currently behind by 15, with Romney at 37%

As Hamous said, several of the not Romnies will drop out after SC, and their voters will naturally gravitate to the survivors.

Romney can’t run on his record, so he’s waging a psychological campaign, trying to convince us all that he’s inevitable. E Type Republicans are aiding him by accusing those who don’t want Romney and say they will not support him of outright treason and a faulty decision making process (in favor of “intuition” I guess).

But it takes 1444 delegates to win the nomination. The new rules apportion delegates according to percentage of votes attained in any election. There are no more winner take all states.

Here is the currently delegate count.

There are 25 delegates at stake in South Carolina, and 50 in Florida. No way that Romney can amass an insurmountable lead in delegate count after Florida.

    This is really tragic.

Children are being abandoned on Greece’s streets by their poverty-stricken families who cannot afford to look after them any more.
Youngsters are being dumped by their parents who are struggling to make ends meet in what is fast becoming the most tragic human consequence of the Euro crisis.

From the I could see that one coming from 20 miles away department:

Pharmacists are struggling to stock their shelves as the Greek government, which sets the prices for drugs, keeps them artificially low.
This means that firms are turning to sell the drugs outside of the country for a higher price – leading to stock depletion for Greeks.

When ever the govt sets prices artificially low, the product will run out as it will seek higher prices elsewhere or the producers will stop making it as the profit is not sufficient to merit its continuation. Happens every time, that is how the human being works when left to seek his own best interests.

When we oppose subsidies, we are charged with opposing the very thing that it was proposed to subsidize and of being the enemies of all kinds of activity, because we want these activities to be voluntary and to seek their proper reward in themselves. Thus, if we ask that the state not intervene, by taxation, in religious matters, we are atheists. If we ask that the state not intervene, by taxation, in education, then we hate enlightenment. If we say that the state should not give, by taxation, an artificial value to land or to some branch of industry, then we are the enemies of property and of labor. If we think that the state should not subsidize artists, we are barbarians who judge the arts useless.”

#37 Sarge: I think it is going to come down to a highly contentious convention fight between the E-type Romneyrroids and the not-Romney contingent. Ifn it actually gets to the convention with no one with more than a 10% lead all bets are off, as anything could happen.

If it gets to that point—-and I hope that it does (unless a not-Romney breaks out and stomps him), then the one who offers the most concessions to Ron Paul will get the nomination.

My opinion is that Perry drops out after SC and his voters go to Newt. Santorum will stay in because he has the highest delegate count right now and any kind of decent showing will add one or two. Newt will stay in because he’s on a mission and his PAC just got $20 million. Huntsman will stay in because he’s just plain wierd.

Newt’s performance in FL will depend on Santorum’s in SC. I Santorum is seen as a flash in the pan (by getting 10% or less), Newt will benefit in FL.

Rigth now a number of people are pizztoff at Newt. But that might just be the kind of pizztoff you get at the Sergeant who slaps you in the face because you’re in a panic, just before he leads you out of the ambush the dead Lieutenant led you into.

Maybe the Dems who answered this poll were not smart enough to know they have no business voting in the R primary? In effect, just “rating” the R candidates?

Anyone truly wishing to switch party — and switch from D to R sounds like a sharp cookie to me — why would they continue to self-identify as the other party?

Its probable. But the temptation to control close to 10% of the required delegates might be too much to resist. The only other states with more than 80 delegates are NY and CA.

But Perry will take votes away from Newt in the south. I said before that based on some of the things I’ve seen in the debates, there appears to be a bit of personal animus between Jimmy Dick and Mittens and Perry has already lost one big moneybags.

One other thing I should point out about that delegate count above: The greater part of the delegate count of Romney, and almost all of Santorum’s come from Iowa. Iowan delegates are not bound to any candidate. They can change thier minds at any time. So, in essence, both Mittens and Santorum can only really count on the delegates they received in NH.

Prosecutors said the money was paid, but nothing was disclosed about the missing woman’s whereabouts.

I would put the odds at better than even that VanDerScum will be under presidential like security ifn he ever makes it up to Birmingham. Ifn there was any justice in the world, they would leave VanDerScum, handcuffed, alone in a room with Mr. Holloway for at least 3-4 hours. #s 66 & 67 – from WIKI:

TG&Y was a five and dime, or variety store, chain in the United States. The chain was named for its three founders: Rawdon E. Tomlinson, Enoch L. “Les” Gosselin, and Raymond A. Young. The initials were ordered according to the age of the three, with Tomlinson being the oldest. Founded in 1935, the chain was headquartered in Oklahoma City. At its peak, there were more than 900 stores.[1][2]

It was acquired by McCrory Stores in 1986, when it had about 720 stores. Shortly after McCrory’s purchased TG&Y, that company cut over 8,000 employees and closed 205 stores, including 23 in its former home-state of Oklahoma.[3] It did business under the TG&Y Family Center and later TG&Y Dollar and Aim for the Best and Dollar-T names as well.

TG&Y stores were firmly embedded in southern culture as modern-day general stores with a bit of everything, and often called by the irreverent monikers, “Turtles, Girdles and YoYos”, “Toys, Goodies and Yummies” and “Toys, Gifts and YoYos”. Toward the end of its successful years, the chain used the advertising slogan, “Your best buy is at TG&Y.”

In 2001,[4] TG&Y filed bankruptcy and all stores were eventually closed.

Well, I left my cell phone hometoday andon my way out of work I got paged by the front office that I had a phone call. It was Mrs. Darren who said that Baby Girl broke her arm today and that they were at the hospital. Baby Girl was upstairs playing with her friend, climbed a bed that’s leaning against a wall, jumped down from it and that’s when the break happened. Baby Girl’s bones got reset, X-rays were taken and she’s in a cast that helps initial healing before a standard cast is set. Mrs. Darren said “both bones” were broken so I think it’s in the forearm. I’m home watching the remaining kids as bedtime’s approaching and I honestly can’t think about this too much because it pains me that my baby girl’s hurt. She’s as fine as can be. I spoke to her on the phone and it was sweet. The doctors are taking good care of her.

While she’ll be just fine thoughts and prayers will help and will be appreciated.

We had Zayres in NH, and Rexall Drugs.

When I was in the Army, there was a chain of stores all over Lawton and other towns in Oklahoma called Jiffy Stores, although there were other named stores as well. They were the first modern type convenience stores I’d ever seen—in NH we have (or had—its been a while since I’ve been back) true mom and pop stores, many that had apartments above them where the owners lived. We all quickly added the phrase “going to the Jiffy Store” even if we were going to the 7-11 or U-Totem (how long since you’ve heard those names?). I still do it.

I guess it shouldn’t but it amazes me how much you dislike Romney because he’s not conservative enough for you yet you systematically apologize for Gingrisch in his rants against Romney’s capitalism. You don’t think Romney’s capitalism is wrong in any way yet Newt’s some kind of sacrificial hero for attacking Romney on how he made money.

Didn’t you get the memo? I’m totally in it for Romney. My last hope after Cain and Bachman was Santorum and he’s not going anywhere. (I’ve posted things like this before and so, no, I don’t think Romney’s the only candidate in the race). Besides Newt’s own liberalism, the big reservation I have against Newt from the start is his child temper tantrums (which dwarfs Becks). He cried when getting booted from Speaker and he’s still crying cuz he didn’t get his way. You obviously came into the race with predisposed opposition to Romney. That’s fine with me. A big difference though is that I’d definitely vote for Gingrich if he won the nomination.

    Yep;

Its going to be real hard to defend Romney come this summer.

Mitt Romney told CNBC Wednesday that he’s happy to have a debate about private equity alleged role in killing American jobs — because President Obama also forced companies to shed jobs at car dealerships during the auto bailout.

So it is somewhat ironic that Romney’s former firm, Bain & Company, was among the private consulting firms that advised the Obama auto bailout team.

And what did Bain recommend? Cutting dealerships.

So not only will we be defending the guy who desinged the model for Obamacare, signed a semi-automaic weapons ban in his state, and helped Obama work out the details on the GM takeover.

    Yep—

Romney represents the best chance to stop Obama——-

It’s good to see that the Senate takes Texas wildfires seriously

Officials with the Federal Wildland Fire Service Association, representing thousands of federal firefighters, complained this week to the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee after learning that some committee staffers ran an office pool to guess how many acres are burned by wildfires each year.

In case there’s a tie, participants are also asked to guess how many fire-fighting planes (“fixed-wing, heavy-slurry aircraft”) will crash, become unusable, or be grounded, and how many weeks those aircraft will be out of service.

I’ve been of the mindset tha to really fill your belly, chew down some meats. But as I drove to wor today I realized that I didn’t pack any meats. So today for lunch I had carrots and almonds with my bottled water. Just a little of that stuff filled me just fine. I know that each time energy transfers (from the Sun to plants, to animals, etc) it looses its potency by about 10% and so consuming products the closer to the source the levels of energy would be higher. Seemed to work that way today. Though if there’s a big juicy steak available, count me in.

In his latest web ad, “The French Connection,” Newt Gingrich compares Mitt Romney to his fellow Bay Staters who have recently run for president. In this case, that includes showing Michael Dukakis in a tank — and John Kerry windsurfing.

The video also hits Romney for saying he’s not trying to return to “Reagan-Bush,” for voting for a “liberal Democrat” instead of President George H.W. Bush, and for opposing The Contract With America.

But the best line is …”And just like John Kerry — he speaks French, too.”

Like Huntsman speaking fluent Mandarin, Romey speaks fluent French mainly because he served his LDs mission in France (that’s where lots of people speak French – just in case the gingrich camp doean’t realize this). Romney did not study French out of some snobby aristocratic sense of himself; but out of his own free will to serve the Lord.

Next thing you know people will pounce of Romney because his father was born in Mexico and his boys speak fluent Spanish. Can’t have them folks running the country. Jingoistic pride will take a dive if they do.

Newt hits Mitt: ‘And just like John Kerry — he speaks French, too’

    Y ¡viva Ted Cruz!

Seventy-four percent of Mormons surveyed say they lean toward the Republican party, and 66 percent describe themselves as conservatives, much higher than the national average of 37 percent. That political ideology is reflected in their views of politicians – 86 percent view Romney favorably and 50 percent hold a positive view of another Mormon candidate, Jon Huntsman. But considerably less, only 22 percent, are supportive of Democratic Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, who is also a Mormon.
