This week’s faith formation class that I taught was a required “safe environment” program for my students. The Catholic Church is making sure that not only are adults trained on what to watch for as far as sexual predation goes, but we are now teaching the students what behaviors to notice and avoid, and what to do if they felt threatened. Since we’ve covered certain sexual topics before in our discussions of sin, I was hoping that tonight’s lesson wouldn’t be so full of giggles and silly questions that we couldn’t complete the curriculum.
As adults, looking at the sexual world in which our offspring try maneuver into adulthood, we take for granted how much we think they know.
We talked about boundaries, and what people are allowed to cross which boundary. We discussed various situations and what might be appropriate behavior. There were some giggles and always a few students that felt they had to contribute something “special” to the conversation. (/facepalm) There were some good questions and a lot of good-natured guffaws. The class was going well, with a lot of participation and knowledge being shared. There were several questions about “If I’m doing something my parents don’t know about, but if this is a problem, should I tell them?” I absolutely assured them that it was soooo much better to get honest with their folks that to be sexually abused. They were opening up to me and asking serious questions, though we had to talk around the aforementioned giggles and “interesting” comments.
When I got to the discussion of grooming, the class got much quieter. We role played some internet scenarios, designed to show how a predator might try to gain their trust. I gave some examples of behavior that a predator might use to encourage inappropriate behavior with the student. I was surprised at how little these teenagers knew, and how interested they were in the subject matter. What really shocked them was how much information they give away on sites such as Facebook, or in online chats, without realizing it. They had no idea that sharing all those details about their lives could expose them to sexual predators.
Just being exposed to sexual material on a daily basis does not educate on sexual protection. As tough as these kids are, or pretend to be, they have so much to learn.
Talk to your kids. Have your kids talk to their kids. Never assume they’ll learn what they need to know from appropriate sources. Let them know they can trust you. Make yourself trustworthy. Make sure they have trusted adults to whom they can go if necessary.
Because if they don’t think they can trust you, someone else will fill that void for you. And not always with good consequences.

It’s difficult to act in a mature manner when you are immature. I always thought a scientific, well planned curriculum of sex education would be beneficial, but the liberals managed to turn that into a cucumber and condom display rather than deal with the “what’s really going on” subject matter. Anyway, it sounds like this class is well done, informative, and morally encouraging, and for that I applaud you.
I know what I was trying to do when I was a teen, but I guess I was lucky enough to be ugly, so it didn’t just drop out of the sky into my lap. My little 15 year old buddy is not so lucky – he’s a good looking young man, and all the girls are after him, so we’ve had some pretty good chats. No matter the subject, knowledge is power.

This guy has to be a Republican econo-sockpuppet. Has to be.
But the truth is nearly the opposite. Although Europeโs leaders continue to insist that the problem is too much spending in debtor nations, the real problem is too little spending in Europe as a whole.

#2 Hamous: What is mind-boggling to me is that the moron PaulieK does not seem to understand a few basics of economics:
1) For every dollar a government spends, it must first take that dollar plus lots of overhead dollars from the private enterprise, tax paying citizens of that country.
2) Dollars in private enterprise seldom sit idly, they are put to work making more dollars.
3) For every dollar a government spends (including overhead) more than it takes in (deficits) that is a dollar that is not available to the private lending industry for people to take risk to grow the economy(ies) and increase the standard of living for all.
4) If the govt chooses to simply print more money you get run away inflation, because each dollar becomes worth less until they become worthless. See the Weimar Republic in Germany before WWII, Zimbabwe today, the Philippines 1950-1980, Mexico in the same period, and many others who did the same thing with exactly the same results.
5) The size of the government is an extra layer of overhead (expense) for the private enterprise, tax paying citizen and business, the bigger the govt as a percentage of GDP, the bigger the overhead burden that must be borne.
6) The most efficient expenditure of dollars is when a private citizen spends his own money on the goods and services he wants/needs. This also produces the greatest multiplier effect of each dollar spent and this is how the economy grows the fastest, ie produces the most winners.
7) The least efficient expenditure of dollars is when governments spend tax dollars.
8) As the national debt grows, the overhead burden of interest expense also grows; this eventually crushes the economy as it sucks all the profit and profit making motivation out of the tax paying citizens.
9) The progressive income tax is the most destructive, innovation killing scheme ever devised short of socialism/communism because the more successful you are the more you are punished with the tax code.So basically, every tennant of PaulieK’s economic reasoning is based on horribly flawed philosophy that does not take into account the basics listed above.

There was an AP article in the Houston Comical this am talking about how the Arctic region was heating up, the ice was melting faster leaving more open water which collects more heat from the sun instead of reflecting it back as ice does. Of course they blame man made emissions of greenhouse gasses, particularly CO2 as the only source/cause of the warming. To their minimal credit, they did not state emphatically that the trend was irreversible, only that it was unknown.
Wasn’t there a passage from the east to west, north of Canada open at one time for sailing ships to transit? How would that have been possible then given that it can not be done now as there is too much wissin ice? What the wiss caused all the ice to go away then to allow for the passage??
Do any of these global warmonger azz-pirates ever take into account varying output from the sun or the climate change that would necessarily happen due to a pole shift? Tell me you manbearpigcrazedsexpoodleterdnozzlelyingsackofcrapfraudulentmotherwisser Algore, how could man cause the output from the sun to vary or cause the poles to shift?? -

Does it still count as scholarly if the empirical evidence always pronounces it as azz-backwards wrong and doomed to failure each and every time it is tried?

Wasnโt there a passage from the east to west, north of Canada open at one time for sailing ships to transit?
Not really. At least not until 1906, and even then its open only briefly each year.
The Northwest Passage is a water route in Northern Canada north of the Arctic Circle that decreases ship travel time between Europe and Asia. Currently, the Northwest Passage is only accessible by ships that have been strengthened against ice and only during the warmest time of the year. However, there is speculation that within the next few decades and due to global warming that the Northwest Passage may become a viable transportation route for ships year-round.
History of the Northwest Passage
In the mid 1400s, the Ottoman Turks took control of the Middle East. This prevented the European powers from traveling to Asia via land routes and so it spurred interest in a water route to Asia. The first to attempt such a voyage was Christopher Columbus in 1492. In 1497, King Henry VII of Britain sent John Cabot to search for what began to be known as the Northwest Passage (as named by the British).
All attempts over the next few centuries to find the Northwest Passage failed. Sir Frances Drake and Captain James Cook, among others, attempted the exploration. Henry Hudson attempted to find the Northwest Passage and while he did discover Hudson Bay, has crew mutinied and set him adrift. Finally, in 1906 Roald Amundsen from Norway successfully spent three years traversing the Northwest Passage in an ice-fortified ship. In 1944 a Royal Canadian Mounted Police sergeant made the first single-season crossing of the Northwest Passage. Since then, many ships have made the trip through the Northwest Passage.

Email to my (and Jessica Farrar’s) parish priest:
Father Sal,
Normally I try to keep my politics out of my Church but I came across this advert for an upcoming Christmas celebration being held, of all places in Houston, in the largest abortion clinic in the country. I’ve become somewhat desensitized by the ghouls of the abortion industry and their political allies. What troubled me was that this event is being sponsored by my state rep, neighbor, and fellow St. Patrick parishioner Jessica Farrar. I’ve seen a lot of disgusting things being done in the name of “women’s rights” but this tops them all. It’s like a giant middle finger to Jesus in a period when we should be celebrating His birth.
I will continue to pray that Jessica one day reconciles her political actions with the teachings of the Church.
Thanks for listening,
MarkThat will get a conversation going after Mass next Sunday.

#15 OTL: A question I have is why do we have to keep fighting this battle with the libs? Each and every honest look at the results of liberal/progressive/leftist policy always show those policies to be complete failures:
1) They cost waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay more than advertised
2) The do not achieve the advertised objective
3) They punish the tax payer
4) They restrict freedom
5) They make it more difficult to produce a profit from one’s enterprise, thus reducing revenue to the treasury -

the real problem is too little spending in Europe as a whole
Funny thing about money is that it is (usually / supposed to be) useful as a store of value. If there is “too little” spending going on, then that means that people see more value in the money itself than in what it can be exchanged for. The reverse holds when people spend their money.
When perceived value of a commodity exceeds the real value of that commodity, a pricing bubble results. This is what happened in the tulip mania in 1637, where tulip bulb prices skyrocketed, then suddenly collapsed. We are in the middle of a more expensive, but less dramatic collapse in real estate prices in the US (China is too).
When the economoron says Europe should be spending more, the correct response is “On what?”

Now me, I am a Gentile saved by grace thus I am a Gentle Gentile Christian. Oh yeah and handyman all round nice guy.
I never have liked the word Gentile because it suggests to me a lack, a deficiency, not just a difference. Not near as bad as Muslims labeling everyone else Infidel, but somewhat the same connotation.
BTW, while looking it up to see if there was anything definitely down-putting about the word, dictionary.com threw up its “Word of the Day” which happened to be

That is probably an asset at this point.

28.5 million dollar government grant (stimulus money) to hook up people to the Internet and train them how to use it. And to produce an online soap opera starring Billy Dee Williams.
The president of One Economy, David Saunier, said Thursday that the group spends most of the money from the $28.5 million grant on wiring people to the Internet and on educating them on broadband access.

Isn’t it also a brand name in the ethnic section of Kroger?

Like the house that Garp bought, he’s been pre-disastered.
As to the “sex scandal” issues, they can be easily countered by “None of them are as serious as Clinton’s were and we survived him. In fact you said they didn’t matter in Clinton’s case. Right now we have a very moral family man and that hasn’t helped us one bit. How bout we look at actual qualifications and accomplishments instead”
As to the flip-floppery and quasi-lobbying, they’re only a real problem with Republican voters, and right now none of that seems to be affecting him at all.

The Christmas colors are red and green, so for true sartorial splendor, you should stick with those colors only. For an impish flair, try one red sock and one green sock.

Nice that USA Today wants to highlight this huge injustice. What idiots they are, however, for trying to spin women getting jail sentences for being raped as equal to conservative values. Radical Islam is not about conservative values, it’s about barbarism. These women are not free because they live under Islam. Now there is a woman who GITZIT!! She nailed the heart of the issue, islime, as the reason the wimminses aren’t free.

I donโt wanna be called goyim either. Again, it sounds like a 2nd-rate category to me.
In the eyes of a hard-core Talmud observant Jew, the Goyim are unclean because of their practices. This was the case in Messiah’s time as well. Go to the incident when Peter saw the sheet filled with unclean (not fit for food according to Torah) animals; he was told to kill and eat 3 times but this was a vision and a message, NOT a command to eat unclean foods. A few verses down you will see the Peter himself comes to the conclusion that he should not treat THE PEOPLE as unclean as the unclean animals were to be treated; the passage was about PEOPLE and not food. The passage used food as a vehicle to get the message across.
There are many on this page who do not agree with the conclusion that is clearly written; but that is not the point of this post – the subject is how “the goyim” are perceived in the mind of a talmud observant Jew. I find it really interesting that in Israel today, many observant Jews have no problem employing someone to work on their behalf on the Sabbath – even though the commandment is specific that no one works, not male or female servant, etc. Further, there is a commandment that appears at least twice that there is to be only one law in Israel, the same for the Jew as well as the sojourner who stays there, yet during the schmitta year (the seventh year when there is to be no working of the land) the Jews will lease their property out to non-Jews, the Goyim, for that year and still reap some income from it.
These things are a clear violation of the written Torah and there will be a price to pay for it. -

Hereโs the way Iโm starting to approach this race. I donโt like Gingrich. Heโs not very likable. Bush was likable. I liked Bush. Maybe likability is not a prerequisite we should use.Mittens looks like he could be a guy’s best buddy. In fact, he’s beenn everybody’s best buddy at one time or another in the past. I just don’t trust a guy that tries that hard to be likeable—and succeeds.
Cain is likeable, but at this point is horribly damaged. Give him about 20 years. He can be the Newt of 2032.
Rick Perry is likeable. But he’s petting a dead mouse in his pocket likeable.
How about we ask these kinds of questions about our candidates from now on:
“What is his record as an elected official on gun control?”
“What is his record as an elected official on Welfare Reform?”
“What is his record as an elected official on Balancing the Budget?”
“What is his record as an elected official on Socialized Medicine?”
The answers to those questions might affect the candidates “likeability” a very good deal.

And what do they show a picture of???

When Commies Bernie Sanders, Pat Leahy and Dick “Turban” Durban oppose a bill, I tend to lean strongly the other way.
Andy McCarthy at NRO methodically takes apart the Looney Left and Black Helicopter Right in defending the McCain/Levin Amendment:
3. Napolitano said that, under McCain-Levin, the president gets to detain without trial any American citizen he decides is a terrorist. This is not true. The president can only order the military detention of individuals who fit the definition of โcovered personโ (i.e., enemy combatant) prescribed by Congress. This excludes not only the overwhelming majority of Americans but even most terrorists. To be a covered person, an individual must either have (a) participated in the 9/11 attacks ten years ago, or (b) be part of, or have meaningfully abetted, not just any terrorist organization but, specifically, al Qaeda, the Taliban, or one of their affiliates who has aligned with them in waging their ongoing war against the U.S. Even if you are a terrorist plotting to blow up an American city, you are not an enemy combatant if youโre not operationally connected to al Qaeda and you had nothing to do with 9/11 (which is the situation of most โhomegrownโ terrorists arrested in the U.S. in the last decade). That is why, out of 310 million American citizens, the number of those designated enemy combatants in the last 10 years is โฆ four.

I had to go find this story after finishing the book Heaven is For Real. The book is the story of how a little boy, coming out of a mortal illness, began revealing to his parents that he’d actually been to Heaven. The details he gave – which he would have no other way of knowing – led to his father’s realization of real the Biblical references were.
One of the things that young Colby had trouble with was describing the face of Jesus. His father, a pastor, kept showing him pictures but each one was wrong somehow. Over and over and over, for months. Colby was very particular. A friend forwarded this story to the pastor after hearing about his son, thinking it might be interesting. After seeing Akiane’s picture of Jesus, the father called his son over to see what was wrong with this picture. According to the book, Colby just stopped, staring at the image. He finally said that the image in this video was “right”.
Colby was only four or five at the time. A kid doesn’t wait for the “right” picture at that age; most want to please their parents. Colby, like Akiane, also stressed the impression of the eyes of Jesus.
I encourage everyone to read the book. It’s short and a quick read.

Ah, the joys of diversity!
There is a lot of truth in those statements. The good intentions of the lefty moon bats (affirmative action) pushed those who were not intellectually qualified into positions they could not efficiently administer and the entire society pays the price. In addition, it will tend to reinforce the prejudices against the very people it was intended to serve. Had those same lefty moonbats simply prosecuted those who actively made the choice against an individual based on race alone, those who were the real problems would have been dealt with and the intellectually qualified would have naturally risen to the appropriate level.

The word, goy, apears many times in the Torah. An ancient Hebrew word, it meant “nation” or “a people”. Goy is used in Genesis to describe the nation of Israel also, but words can adapt to new usage and meaning over thousands of years.
Goy and the plural form, goyim, eventually became a somewhat pejorative term to describe all peoples who were not Jewish. The negative connotation was more common among the Ashkenazi Yiddish speakers of Europe, in the Middle Ages, than among the Sephardic Jews of the Middle East and Southern Asia. It’s proper, original usage would apply to any nation or tribe of people, including the Jews themselves.
Gentile is of late Latin origin and has a very similar meaning – to describe the members of a people or tribe. The usage by Jews of this word has never had the pejorative baggage assigned to goy by the Ashkenazi and was simply applied to any and all people not of the Jewish faith.

Thought cloud over Charlie Crist’s head as he was licking Mittens shoes: “Please let me be relevant again”

Here’s your Ninja Turtle backback in green. Don’t look like it would hold up on Tatooine, though.

Someone that we haven’t heard from in many a moon commented on Adee’s Colosseum post today. Guess who, before you go and check.

Having grown up in the age before “the pill”, there were several alternative forms of birth control: One: Your parents would kill you.
Two: Her parents would kill both of you.
Three: All of the parents would kill you again.
Four: After you were dead, God would punish you again forever.
Five: You really didn’t have a clue anyway what it was you would be punished for, so you had to guess. -

Huntsman looks like a young T. Coddington Van Voorhees VII.I tell ya, that Newty is a smart one.
First he asked Mittens to have one of those Lincoln=Doublas debates, and for some reason, the Master Debater turned him down. all that debating prowess wasted—-
Huntsman is seeing a bit of a surge in NH. There’s a long standing contrarian tradition among Down Easter voters and Huntsman is the kind of guy they’d turn to. As the article says:
It’s a genius move for Gingrich, and a good one by Huntsman. Romney has declined an invitation to engage Gingrich in this kind of debate.
Newt Gingrich gets to elevate Huntsman in New Hampshire, which could hurt Mitt Romney.
Gingrich believes that he can beat anyone in a debate and will look smarter than any of his opponents. The more air-time he gets, the better for him.
Mitt Romney looks like a chicken for not accepting a debate challenge with his chief rival.
