Things are moving and shaking in the GOP Primary, with only Romney holding steady, but maybe not so much.
In Iowa, Newt and Herman hold the top slots with Romney at third and Perry with almost half as many points as Ron Paul’s third place.
There’s a bit of a change in NH where Romney has lost three points while Newt and Ron Paul take second and third. Perry still polls behind Jon Huntsman. Paul’s rise is no real surprise to me Those in the state who still have the downeaster ethos are attracted to his type, and the Free State Project (google it) is attracting some folks who are even more politically active than even NH Natives, and they are all pretty much Ron Paul voters. But Romney’s down tick as both Newt, Paul, and even Huntsman see a rise is not a good sign for the master debater. His strategy is built around achieving a victory in NH so massive that it will put the seal on his “inevitability”. But in doing so, and by virtue of the fact that he’s practically a favorite son, he’s built expectations pretty high. Any showing of less than 40% in the primaries will be a kick in the groin.
And it’s looking like SC won’t make his groin feel any better. Cain still holds a commanding lead there, even seeing an uptick since last week, along with Newt. Mittens, and everybody else, has seen a downtick.
Its possible that after SC, Newt, Herman, and Romney will each have won a state. That’s bad news for Romney as it will shatter his claim of inevitability. If Newt keeps rising in SC and Herman holds steady, a third place showing is in the cards for Mittens, and that won’t help his inevitability one little bit.
The next round of primaries are in Florida (where Mittens is not doing well), and caucii in Nevada, Maine, Colorado, and Minnesota. RCP has Mittens up by 6 points in Nevada, but the last poll they show was taken almost a month ago, and we all know that so much has gone on in that time that we can’t rely on old results. I can’t find any reliable polling in the other states this morning.

AFPMexican officials have unveiled plans to slaughter some 50,000 wild boars that have crossed the border from the United States and now threaten agriculture in Mexico.
The Ministry of Environment in Chihauha state said some 1,500 hectares (3,700 acres) of farmland in the border town of Ojinaga have been affected by the large number of feral pigs that have come from Presidio County, Texas.
“We must get rid of these European wild boars because they sleep overnight on US soil during the day and cross over to the Mexican side to feed,” Ignacio Legarreta, a state official, told local media.
The boars of European origin, which were imported to Texas as pets and then replicated in the wild, have caused serious damage to the flora and fauna of the area, officials said.
“They have reproduced to reach more than 50,000 animals that threaten the area,” said Legarreta.
That works out to be over 13 hogs per acre.

We used to raise hogs when I was young. I remember how quickly they turned grass into muck. The Mexicans are right – they are devastating to the flora and fauna, especially in such concentrations.
While I appreciate the reverse illegal immigration angle, I sympathize with the farmers who are just trying to make a living. Go make all the bacon you want, farmers!

I was just getting ready to comment on TT’s post. On our deer lease, we have traps around every blind and watering hole. If you see one in the daytime (very very rare, they are primary nocturnal in the wild), it is mandatory to shoot it, even if it means messing up your deer hunt for the day.

I am always reminded of Neal Boortz “cat drop” story. He and his fellow skydivers claimed to round up stray cats and take them aloft. Once at altitude, they would toss all the cats out of the airplane then jump out behind them. The diver who landed with the most cats attached was declared the winner….
Needless to say, he got a lot of grief when he told that story – apparently some of his listeners believed him.

Why the Rs aren’t screaming this from the rooftops and put an actual face to the problem is a mystery to me. Harry Reid and his band of idiotic Ds have greased the skids for our national slide into the basement of the outhouse.

Shannon and I have a friend whose brother was a major vendor to the largest hog slaughterhouse in the country near Chicago. He had to periodically go out onto the kill floor during production. I won’t go into gruesome details, but all of the workers who did the actual killing and exsanguination were all hired from the pool of recent parolees from the nearby high security prison for the most violent offenders.
These were the ex-inmates that no amount of arm-twisting or political pressure could force anyone to hire. Our friend’s brother said these guys really, really loved their job – every aspect of it.
Now this is not a concern for those who do not consume pork, however, for those who do, whatever these guys are thinking and saying is far worse than “Allah Akbar !”. Who knows what people say or think in food processing plants around the world ? Why would it even matter ?

Here’s where we’re all supposed to raise a glass to government paralysis. Granted, that’s preferable to a trillion dollars in new taxes, but (a) thanks to the scheduled lapsing of the Bush tax cuts, paralysis in this case means we’re still on the hook for that trillion (and more!) and (b) we desperately, desperately, desperately need Congress to act on entitlement reform. Paralysis means the status quo and the status quo simply isn’t sustainable. So, hurray?

The Super Committee’s much-to-the-surprise-of-no-one super failure is now a reality. This quote from the Drudge linkie is revealing:
The committee, in the end, could not resolve that Republicans would not go as far as Democrats wanted on allowing more revenue raisers, and Democrats did not want to move on entitlement reforms.
The Rs tried to compromise and actually proposed “revenue enhancers” which is Bravo Sierra DC-Speak for a tax increase and that was rejected by the Ds as not enough. On the other hand the Ds did not yield at all on entitlement reforms. Anybody with two brain cells to rub together knows that it is the entitlements that are unsustainable and are causing the overwhelming majority of the problem. We do not have an income problem, the problem is spending; as if anybody doesn’t already know that. The Rs almost got rolled again by increasing taxes and getting nothing in return. So now we have the automatic cuts, my understanding is that the majority of which will come from defense, that will only make us weaker and kick the stooooopidity can down the wissin road.
Fix the problem now, cut everything 10% across the board and freeze spending at that level for 2 years. Then get the big knife out and cut another 20% and freeze again for 2 years. -

Terror – and civil society – on trial in Boston

Tarek Mehanna, a young Muslim student, son of an Egyptian immigrant, was arrested two years ago at his home in Sudbury; accused by the FBI of plotting a Mumbai like machine gun massacre of New England shoppers in Attleboro’s Emerald Square Mall – and for giving material support to Al Qaeda in Iraq. His trial began on Oct. 24.
Prosecution documents tell of Mehanna’s attempt to seek terrorist training in Yemen and Pakistan. They describe the pleasure he and his friends took in watching videos of Americans being beheaded and of American soldiers killed and mutilated in Iraq. Watching a scene of an American soldier whose chest was ripped open and whose innards then set ablaze with gasoline, Mehanna called it “a Texas barbeque.” When asked by a fellow extremist if the soldiers should not have received some sort of trial, Mehanna said no, “BBQ sauce is the way to go.” Mehanna and his friends talked online about how his own translations of Al-Qaeda recruitment literature into English made him part of “the media wing of Al Qaeda.” In these same conversations, monitored by the FBI, he has said that he “looks to Osama Bin Laden as his real father” and “loves him,” and that he wasn’t sorry for the victims of 9/11; he was just sorry “for the buildings.”
An upper middle class fellow with an advantaged background hates his neighbors and his country? Aren’t we told that poverty produces radicals?
Despite all this, the very people who have been telling us for years that they are true moderates have developed a Free Tarek Mehanna (FTM) Committee, which describes Mehanna in a petition as “a person with strong ethical values” who is “intelligent, charismatic, influential and trusted by many in the local Islamic community.” A role model.
The group has been aggressively politicizing the judicial proceedings against Mehanna. Its spokesmen accuse the FBI of a national effort to harm the entire American Muslim community. FTM has targeted individual prosecutors and harassed the US Attorney’s office with repeated phone calls and sit-ins. It labels anyone who dares to raise concerns about radical Islam as bigots and Islamophobes.
On Sept. 24, the leadership of the Islamic Society of Boston mosque in Roxbury organized an event there that featured pleas for support by Mehanna’s brother and by the families of three convicted terrorists from Georgia, North Carolina and New York (Ehsanul Sadequee, Ziyad Yaghi and Syed Fahad Hashmi, respectively). Speakers claimed their communities were “suffering under the war on terror,” which they called a US government plot against Muslims.
Whether Tarek Mehanna violated the law is an issue that should be left up to the courts – without mob pressures.
But what everyone in Boston should be concerned with is that Boston’s Muslim leadership, under the guise of protecting free speech, is celebrating a man who sees himself as a hateful enemy of our society and was prepared – says the FBI – to kill his fellow New Englanders.
One of the leaders of FTM is Imam Abdullah Faaruuq, president of the umbrella organization of all the mosques in New England (Islamic Council of N.E.) and the Muslim chaplain at Northeastern University. Imam Faaruuq caused a stir when, in response to Mehanna’s arrest, he encouraged Boston Muslims to “pick up the gun and the sword, don’t be afraid to go out there and do your job.” Faaruuq, by the way, is a man who has been embraced by Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick. While my organization has made both Patrick and the Northeastern administration aware of Faaruuq’s activities, both have refused to repudiate him. There’s a money angle as well: Northeastern student activity fees paid for a Support Mehanna event on campus in April. Last year, Faaruuq gave the Patrick administration $50,000 for “Muslim sensitivity training” for police.
In supporting an anti-American Islamist radical, Boston’s Muslim leadership is promoting a sort of tribalism, which sees all Muslims as “our brothers and sisters” who must be defended regardless of their actions. Rather than shunning indecent behavior found among fringe people in their own groups, as all decent Americans have learned to do, they are teaching their children to embrace people who want to kill their neighbors. This can only encourage future acts of hatred and terror.
Truly moderate Muslim leaders would want a fair trial for Tarek Mehanna, but would strongly condemn his hateful beliefs and might even undertake to investigate how these awful thoughts and radical ideology penetrated their community. We can only hope such voices emerge.
It’s disheartening to watch privileged children of Muslim immigrants who have benefited so generously from America turn toward hatred while their communal leaders exploit America’s tolerance to promote and lionize an indecent young man who is also an accused terrorist. In my view, the most disturbing facet of this story is the utter failure of Massachusetts media and political leadership to honestly deal with the growing radicalization of young Muslims.
I hope that Massachusetts’ civic and political leadership will summon the courage to ensure that justice is served and Mehanna’s trial proceeds without political interference or mob pressure.

You ALMOST,…almost feel sorry for the pigs.
From the E Mail ; This Texas feral hog shooting chopper video (LOACH on the job) is fascinating.
The pilot has a fixed rifle with optics rigged back to his helmet and eye-piece. He doesn’t miss and his scout-chopper flying skills are down pat with the hogs behavior and pack or group running style. This came from Greg Cooper who has a huge ranch SE of Brownfield, Texas …south of Lubbock . I don’t know where the chopper hog hunting op is but it is clearly West Texas . This is a long run video but the hogs get it ! I don’t see them dropping flags or stakes from the air to ground-mark their kills so as to go find them easily but I assume they “know” the country or wait for the turkey buzzards to tip them off. The pilot is really good!
Oh and I have NO IDEA about the paint ball crap at the end. Weird~ 😉 -

She was asked about efforts by the leadership of her own Church to ensure that there are conscience provisions in place to prevent Catholic Hospitals and Doctors from having to dispense contraceptives, (some of which are abortifacients) or perform abortions under the Obama Health Care legislation.
She once again claimed “‘I’m a devout Catholic and I honor my faith and love it – but they have this conscience thing’. She went on to assert that Catholic medical professionals who opt out of performing abortions would be “letting women die on the floor.” She said that efforts to protect health care providers from violating conscience were “savage.”

The man holding the bobcat is actually my grandfather. Coincidentally his name was Charlie (grandfather, not the cat). The picture was taken about 1965 in Campbell Station, Florida. I don’t think the town even exists anymore. It was South of Kissimmee. The cat had been killing chickens for a while before he was dispatched.

#84 Hambone, What a great shot, a bobcat is a very small cat 20-30 Lbs max BUTT they are very long (body) and have long legs, the cat in the pix looks to be about 4′ head to rear feet.
One more thing, a beagle is one of the best hunting/tracking dogs anywhere and without a doubt the most Horny! Never saw a male beagle that would’n hump your leg…….I hope I didn’t offend your Grandma. 😉 -

Texpat, did you notice that the range didn’t seem to matter? That is he’d nail some of them at a fairly long range and miss some that were close? But he is Dang good and you have to remember he is flying a helicopter! I have flown a Bell Jet Ranger and it is tough! At 150 Kts it’s just like a small plane, but to stop and hover, very, very hard. If you can stack ten greezed bowling balls on top of one another, you can fly a chopper. 😉

That photo has been floating around the net for a while and it’s been reported to be anywhere from south Texas to northen Mexico. Never heard of it being from eastTexas.

They cover a lot of territory, and as each new generation comes in, they tend to spread out. There are those who think that there may poissibly be more mountain lions in the west today than there were 100 and more years ago.
