Friday Occupy Oakland Open Comments

Occupy Oakland got a little frisky the other night. They decided to go on a long march through the city, dirupting traffic along the way to the Port of Oakland, the 5th largest in the US. They caused the port to be closed due to safety concerns and them blocking the entrances.
Here’s a bunch of protesters with the implement many protests can’t live without – the 5 gal plastic bucket. (these look like they were purchased from the eeeeeevil Home Depot) If you’re ever in Washington DC, someone in the National Mall is always beating on one.

The crowd had a festival atmosphere early on.

Some were “Swag’n 4 Justice”.

Even “Boots” Riley showed up! Yay “Boots”!!!1!!11!!

They even provided a case study of democracy. How thoughtful of them! I had no idea it looked like a Cub Scout campout, but with hippies smoking weed.

The bucolic, serenity of “democracy” was shattered later on by some “direct action” undertaken by some of the comrades.

Apparently some of the comrades got hungry and decided to have a weenie roast in the middle of a street.

One idiot and his girlfriend managed to get themselves run over because they threatened a driver who was just trying to use a street for its intended purpose. (click picture, then scroll down for video)

#1 – Just proves once again that the early bird gets the worm.

Now: Brought forward from last night:
Andrew Breibart had his microphone running in the Oval Office when the President was meeting with other officials discussing the agenda leading up to next year’s election. Pretty interesting.

Since it’s now today, as soon as a thread opens up I’ll move this from yesterday to today. It’s magic being able to time shift like this isn’t it?

I want to go back to my comments yesterday concerning the Herman Cain scandal. I made the comment: “Who cares who started the story.” and some of you chimed in. Let’s face it, nobody will ever know who started the story. The real question is what was the motive. Some say it was Cain’s Republican primary candidates trying to knock Cain out of the race. But how about this scenario, the Dummycrats in an attempt to mistreat or discredit Cain to show the black people that the Republican party doesn’t want any blacks in their party. I still don’t consider Cain a serious candidate. He doesn’t have the staff nor the money to mount a major campaign. He did receive a bump in contributions but nothing like what Romney and Perry have in their war chests. And finally, Cain without any political experience would get eaten up by the Washington D.C. insiders if he were elected. My choice is Newt Gingrich because he talks intelligently and is very knowledgeable about the ins and out of D.C.

Flying back from Calgary on Continental last Sunday I was waiting at the departure gate speaking with another passenger. The flight crew and most of the cabin crew has gone down the ramp when the only male member of the cabin crew started down the ramp. As he entered the ramp he turned to the assembled crowd of passengers and shouted, “power to the people, not the corporations.” It was easy for the assembled crowd to hear this.
Needless to say this struck a nerve with me and without really thinking I shouted back, “Horsesh*t.”
This seemed to surprise this ingrate so he repeated his phrase, I promptly repeated mine. In the ensuing silence the steward turned and got on the plane.
While on the plane he complained openly where passengers, myself included, about Continental Airlines could hear his comments.
I did send Continental a snot-a-gram about this employees behavior but am yet to hear anything back. I won’t be holding my breath.
I find it amusing this clown works for a major corporation, makes a good living and has lots of time off and has the audacity to complain and support #OWS.

I agree with ya one one very important point that I feel should not be overlooked.

Cain without any political experience would get eaten up by the Washington D.C. insiders if he were elected.

Political experience is not necessarily a resume item I look at when selecting my candidate. I think what is instructional is how Cain has handled this mess. Once you get past the who did what to who junk, Cain has looked very shaken and frail at times with this. Yes his statements have been disjointed and it seems at times he may be adding to “the facts” as he remembers them and yes he should be defensive (these are some serious charges) but Cain looks/sounds out of his polished and practiced element. I wonder how he is going to react when the large world distraction begin to come across his desk.

I think it is important for us to see how a man reacts under an unexpected blistering personal “attack”. Much insight can be gained into how he is going to react when the proverbial world level bovine processed hay hits the fan.

It is one thing to grow and learn from ones mistakes and polish the image and one must grow into the office of the presidency. I think we are getting a long look at how Herman Cain adjusts to these unexpected growth opportunities.

Unfortunately Mr. Cain is not just a political neophyte – He has no serious financial background (at least at the international level), no foreign policy experience, and quite frankly, limited social skills. I’m impressed with what he has done with his life, but being President of the United States is not a simple task. The multitude and magnitude of problems facing this once great nation may not be insurmountable, but they certainly cannot be solved with a couple of simple slogans or simple tax policy. Anyone who tries to run a simple campaign cannot be successful. By not anticipating this racial attack and being prepared to deal with it quickly and effectively, he has been taken off message for several days now, and that was the intent of whoever put the story out there. If he had said “darn right, I nailed them all – even more than Clinton did” this thing would have been over with by now except for the eager beaver reporters who would then have to find one he did not nail in order to call him a liar.

Problem is, I have yet to see anyone with the necessary intellect, coupled with conservative credentials, who is up to the task of turning this big ship back around and properly dealing with our enemies, both foreign and domestic.

Political experience is not necessarily a resume item I look at when selecting my candidate.

Electing candidates using political experience as a yardstick is what got us into this problem. We’ve got one heckuvalot of expereinced polticians up there, and it has only hurt us.

When you ask the question “How’s that working out for you?” and the answer is “About as good as a spaghetti pencil.” then stop freaking looking for poltical experience in your candidates and start looking for something different.

I do beleive that being a Fed Chairman would indicates some sort of financial background, and some exposure to foreign policy.

By not anticipating this racial attack and being prepared to deal with it quickly and effectively, he has been taken off message for several days now, and that was the intent of whoever put the story out there. first, it was not a racial attack, it was one on his character. We had a president who handled these kinds of attacks extremely well. His name was Clinton. We’ve had a Senators who have handled them well, too. One was named Kennedy.

How one handles such an attack is an indication of poltical savvy and media connections. It has nothing to do with running a government. Its sad that today we’ve made handling this kind of thing as being more important than actual competence and intelligence combined with ideology on the part of our candidates.

A question comes to mind about Herman Cain and his poll numbers, they say “national” polling. Does that mean just Republicans or everybody is polled? Because I certainly wouldn’t want a Dummycrat answering who should be the Republican nominee in any poll.

Depends on the pollster, but in general, they are interviewing likely primary voters. That’s especially the case in the polls taken in Iowa, NH, and SC. The latest polling that includes the current flap still shows him leading Romeny by a couple of points, with Newt bringing up a strong third. Bad news for the Perry acolytes as its looking like as Conservative primary voters start making up thier minds, they are going for either Cain or Newt. If any voters peel off from Cain, therefore, it will only help newt. perry has already been cast on the trash heap of electoral history. You just can’t come back from calling your base heartless, even if you put forward an economic plan a bunch of other folks have already put forward before.

    Who’da thunk it?

Perhaps folks should start asking themselves who has a better chance to beat Obama: Romney, Newt, or Cain rather than hoping against hope that voters will turn back to Perry.

Phyllis Schlafly not happy with Perry’s economics plan.

Does Rick Perry want to undermine traditional marriage? This question leaps out from his new 20 percent flat-tax plan, which would eliminate all tax advantages for married couples where one spouse is the primary breadwinner.

For more than 60 years, the federal income tax has treated the family as an economic unit. A husband and wife have the benefit of pooling their income in a joint tax return, which affords larger deductions and lower rates….

If an income tax were truly “flat,” filing status wouldn’t matter because a wife is taxed at the same rate as her husband. But Perry’s so-called flat tax isn’t anywhere near flat, so it matters greatly that he offers the same standard allowances to alternative lifestyles as for married couples. His plan would allow, for example, two unrelated adults living with two children to avoid income tax on their first $50,000 of income.

Rasmussen’s latest SC Poll asked only likely Republican primary voters.

A new Rasmussen poll conducted Tuesday — two days after unsubstantiated allegations surfaced that Cain had harassed sexually two women — shows the Georgia businessman continues to be the preferred candidate of 33 percent of likely S.C. Republican primary voters.

And that lead shows no signs of slipping — at least not yet.

On the OC Thread, I read a couple of items about citizen reactions. One was a guy in a Mercedes trying to drive home from work (imagine some one having a job) and he was blocked by protesters blocking him and pounding on his hood. After several attempts to get the out of the way, he hit the gas and knocked him out of the way.

The other was an office builder developer that was late in his office when the protestors started to break in his windows to take over the building. He went to the front door with a shotgun (didn’t aim it, just cradled in his arms) and cranked a round in it. The protesters cleared out in about 3 seconds.

As much as one would like to say hooray, it’s just a matter of time before it gets really out of hand and some one gets hurt. Sad commentary for our state of affairs.

Holder loses a BIG round. This uncovers his @ss for all kinds of complicity, contempt, lying under oath….and on and on.

Justice Department pulls controversial FOIA regs

The Justice Department is nixing proposed Freedom of Information Act regulations that lawmakers from both parties had assailed as authorizing federal officials to lie to FOIA requesters.

The proposal said that when an agency determined certain exclusions from FOIA apply, “the component utilizing the exclusion will respond to the request as if the excluded records did not exist. This response should not differ in wording from any other response given by the component.”

Though the regulation was proposed in March, the movement against it seemed to gather steam in recent days, moving beyond the traditional FOIA requester community and drawing public criticism from Republicans who said it promoted lying by the government.

On Thursday, DOJ threw in the towel.

Houston woman charged with starving, injuring 3-month-old
    By ZAIN SHAUK, HOUSTON CHRONICLE

The frail, 3-month-old girl weighed less than 9 pounds when she was finally taken to a hospital.

Four bones in her legs were fractured, and she was severely malnourished

Guidry, also known as Janice Jenkins, was charged Tuesday in connection with the infant’s injuries and was being held in Harris County Jail without bail. She faces charges of injury to a child and injury to a child by omission in connection with the baby. Those charges are in addition to the prior charge of injury to a child Guidry faces in the case involving the 11-year-old boy, for which she was out on bail.

In that case, Guidry allegedly told the boy to take off all of his clothes, then struck him with an extension cord on his arms, chest, back, face and hand, according to court records. When the boy tried to run, Guidry reached for him and scratched his chest, drawing blood, records show.

A 57-year-old man, Lonnie Verl Jenkins Sr., also allegedly beat the boy, using a wooden board with silver tape around it. Jenkins also was charged with injury to a child.

The boy told police he had been punished previously with a belt, belt buckle and wooden paddle.

OBH passed his physical with flying colors Tuesday. The doctor said the president is slim, active, eats healthy foods and limits himself to a beer or two a week.
It’s the best evidence yet that he’s not a real American.

And this is precisely why a flat tax will NEVER make it through Congress much less the Senate.

Does Rick Perry want to undermine traditional marriage? This question leaps out from his new 20 percent flat-tax plan, which would eliminate all tax advantages for married couples where one spouse is the primary breadwinner.

NOTE: For the purpose of this rant CREDIT also equals DEDUCTION so lets not play semantics games.

Do you get a mortgage dedcution?
With a flax tax your ox gets gored.

Do you take the earned income debit credit?
With a flax tax your ox gets gored.

Do you or someone you know get a credit for being blind or disabled?
With a flax tax your ox gets gored.

Do you get a credit for paying back school loans?
With a flax tax your ox gets gored.

Do you get a credit for your healthcare bills?
With a flax tax your ox gets gored.

Do you get exemptions for your kids?
With a flax tax your ox gets gored.

A flat tax sounds good and I would give up my credits, exemptions, deductions, reductions for a flat tax that taxed EVERYONE the same. But that is not going to happen because the second people begin to realize their particular ox is gonna get gored they are going to gripe, *itch and complain. Not to mention making the 47% of people that now do not paying any taxes will have to pay taxes under a TRUE flat tax, OMG we cannot have that. Do not forget BTW that Bushco expanded the number of people that are exempt form paying taxes. So Congress and the Senate will NEVER pass a flat tax. NEVER.

And don’t make me blast Cain’s 999 out of the water.

The good news though is that there continues a healthy debate about taxes. That has been a long time coming.

Remember folks it is your money the government takes to give to someone else. It is not the governments job to help anyone period end of story. I make no apologies to anyone if your ox gets gored. I want a TRUE flat tax. No deductions, reductions, accounting tricks, principles or laws. I am tired of “LEGAL” theft of MY MONEY.

The congress and Senate will NEVER do it because it is a burden on all those poor people out there to pay sales tax. And if they did do it the exemption train would just be made longer. They will never codify it in stone either. Are you kidding me? There are so many balanced budget amendments that have been passed over the years that have been amended and ignored, what makes you thing the fed would live up to that red herring? Once people learn that they can vote themselves handouts, politicians learn that the best way to get elected is to promise more than their opponents—more services, more benefits, more spending, whether or not the nation can afford it. Voters punish those who might actually slash spending or reduce government employment by cutting government waste—in essence, anyone supporting financial responsibility. Voters enjoy the short-term benefits of big spending and leave the consequences for the next generation.

I chuckle at so called fiscal conservatives I see chatting in blogs that get wrapped around the axel when they see their pet deduction might get slashed to cut spending and/or reduce taxes. I do not blame the politicians, the blame lies at the feet of the electorate.

As far as the latest Washington Post-ABC poll is concerned, their poll was of registered voters—1,004 of them. 483 were Republicans or Republican leaning independents.

Seven in 10 Republicans say reports that Cain made unwanted advances toward two employees when he was head of the National Restaurant Association in the 1990s — allegations which have been stiffly rebutted by Cain’s campaign — do not matter when it comes to picking a candidate.

No question was asked of Republican voters how they might feel if the found out who advanced the allegations.

Nearly a quarter of all Republicans and GOP-leaning independents now back Cain as the party’s nominee, his best showing in Post-ABC polls this year, and up significantly from early October. At 23 percent nationally, Cain is neck-and-neck with Romney (24 percent) atop the GOP field.

    snip

One shift in Cain’s support over the past month might help him build momentum: His base has diversified, extending to non-tea-party Republicans. The businessman leads Romney among strong tea party backers, but his support has jumped from 1 percent to 14 percent over the past month among those who do not support the movement.

In a sign of potential uncertainty ahead, however, just 27 percent of Cain’s supporters say they will definitely vote for him. A similarly low number of Romney’s supporters — 28 percent — say they are certain to stick with their choice.

Today might not seem any more special than yesterday or the day before, but it is a once-in-10,000-years event. Nov. 2, 2011, written out numerically, is 11/02/2011, which on its own makes it a very rare eight-digit palindrome date, meaning that it can be read the same way frontward and backward.

Our side by side refrigerator freezer conked out and the oven in our range was no longer working. We were trying to limp into next year before we purchased new appliances since we’ve had so many expenses the last 18-24 months. When the fridge went, we didn’t have a choice. Both appliances were almost 23 years old, bought in January of 1989.

We ended up buying GE Profile side by side and range which were delivered yesterday. Her Highness found the original papers on the old refrigerator/freezer.

    Paid cash in 1989 for GE refrigerator/freezer: $ 1,464.00 [ 2010 dollars= $ 2,540.94]

No money down/18 months interest-free 2011 plan for GE refrigerator/freeezer:
    $ 1,779.00

The new model is superior in every way to the old one and is rated to cost about $5 / month to operate.

For $ 761.94 less than 23 years ago.

    I’ve never seen this before.

In 1996, Levon Helm, Emmylou Harris and Sheryl Crow singing Evangeline.

Am I the only one to not know Sheryl Crow is an accordion maestro ?

    Wow.

me and Mrs Bonecrusher celebrated 17 years of marital bliss last night! I am truly a blessed man:>)

Yeah but, what about Mrs. Bonecrusher. 😉

Just kidding. A very happy 17th to you and to her, sir. It’ll take a few years to reach 17 with Mrs. Darren and I but I fully plan to reach it and then go way beyond that.

But that is not going to happen because the second people begin to realize their particular ox is gonna get gored they are going to gripe, *itch and complain.

Although I agree with you and I too would give up my exemptions for a simple tax code, this would be a very hard sale. But I’m willing to try it. if anything, it’ll get the tax issue debated more.

The thing that steams my oysters the most, is that true charitable institutions that at one time took care of the indigent and truly needy folks has been replaced by the government. Communities and churches have been replaced by Uncle Sugar. While charitable hospitals still do yeoman jobs helping people, they have been hamstrung by government regulation and forced into government programs.

I could rant on but won’t.

/Dang it feels good being totally grumpy again 🙂

Ventura, miffed by court, says he’s off to Mexico

    Adios le digo entonces.

Here’s some lyrics from a song from La mosca for anyone who was a fan of Ventura.

    Yo romperé tus fotos
    yo quemaré tus cartas
    para no verte más
    para no verte máaaaaaas

    (I’ll tare up your photos
    I’ll burn your letters
    to not see you anymore
to not see you any mooooooooore)

I have that affect on people. 🙂

Agreed on government taking over charitable institutions. I was blessed to sit down at BYU one day and listen to Margaret Thatcher speak to the audience at one of the college’s firesides. Part of her speech praised the United States for its charitable donations throughout the world. She even stated that you always get more than you give when you give in charity. She got rousing approval from the audience for that and for, well, her entire speech.

CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla (Reuters) – A huge asteroid will pass closer to Earth than the moon Tuesday, giving scientists a rare chance for study without having to go through the time and expense of launching a probe, officials said.

Earth’s close encounter with Asteroid 2005 YU 55 will occur at 6:28 p.m. EST (2328 GMT) Tuesday, as the space rock sails about 201,000 miles from the planet.

Dang. I hate it when that happens.
