Friday Redneck Funnin’ Open Comments

Police were called to a North Houston residence last month to put a stop to a mini-riot in the home of Paul and Kimberley Ryals. A woman attempted to force her way into the home and that’s when things began to spiral out of control.
The ensuing melee included:

  • A bat
  • A gun
  • Bolt cutters
  • An ash tray
  • A grenade
  • A machete

The video at the link shows the Ryals’ yard, where there are several vehicles, including a school van. I didn’t see any chickens running around.
Just another Saturday night in Aldine.

    I’m watching Phil Archer’s report from the news video above and wondering, damn, how did Phil get so old ? When he started with Channel 2 thirty-five years ago, Archer looked like he was still in high school. I remember thinking he’d never last – he’s just too young-looking.

    Of course, I haven’t changed a bit myself….

    Did anyone else hear something on the Sam Malone show this morning about the DOJ proposing a new rule to let them deny the existence of a document requested under FOIA? If this is allowed to go through, the FOIA is neutered and the inmates will run amok in the asylum.

    Arianna Huffington Loses Ruling In Fight Over HuffPo Ownership

    Two politicos who sued Arianna Huffington and her partner for stealing their idea for the Huffington Post will get to go forward after a New York judge refused to throw out the lawsuit.

    The tale of intrigue amidst the media elite of the Democratic party began last year when Peter Daou and James Boyce, both advisers to the 2004 Kerry-Edwards campaign, filed a lawsuit against the Huffington Post founders last November. Daou says he penned a memo about a “new kind of Democratic news-reporting website and blogging ‘ring’ or collective” but that Huffington stole the idea and cut him out of the loop before she launched the Huffington Post in May of 2005.

    Huffington and co-founder Ken Lerer filed to dismiss the suit but state judge Charles Ramos ruled yesterday that the plaintiffs could continue with their claim under a New York law that allows people to sue if someone steals an idea that is both novel and concrete. In the ruling, the judge noted that Huffington appeared to have conceded that the idea was indeed a new one when she told Playboy in 2006, “There’s a tremendous advantage in being the first with something .. We were the first hybrid of news and group blog.”

    Ramos found that the plaintiffs had raised enough questions about the origin of the Huffington Post for the issue to be decided at a trial.

    Times lawyers fired off a cease-and-desist letter to Arianna Huffington on Monday, claiming that The Huffington Post’s new blog, Parentlode, is a rip-off of the Times blog Motherlode and she better change the name or else. Longtime Times writer and Motherlode founder Lisa Belkin decamped to The Huffington Post earlier this month and began writing for the new blog on Monday in a post titled, “Welcome to Parentlode.”

    “While we are flattered by your focus on our blog and your apparent fondness for its name, we obviously cannot permit you to adopt a name whose sole purpose is to create an association in the minds of readers with our ‘Motherlode’ blog,” wrote New York Times Co. lawyer Richard Samson in a letter addressed to Huffington.

    “This is a transparent attempt to capitalize on the fame and reputation of the original nytimes.com blog, and constitutes an obvious infringement of The Times’ rights under U.S. Trademark law”.

    Good morning Hamsters. Nice to get out the long sleeves and sweaters at last. And 2/10″ rain last night surely is enough to germinate the ryegrass seed spouse spread in the pastures last Sunday. The birds and squirrels had a field day earlier this week poking around the pastures. Breezy and 52 at 6, now stronger breezy and starting to clear, leaves and acorns flying and rolling through the yard.

    Spouse turns 71 tomorrow, and birthday dinner with good friends comes on Sunday at a new to us restaurant. A cake from a dear lady arrived this morning, and that will be enjoyed over several days. Getting older is not for wimps. 🙂 And of course it beats the alternative.

    The debates in their current format have not informed the voters as to what the candidates believe, stand for, or bring to the table. Nor have they really given an indication of what they would do if elected, how they would approach the problems of the day, or what differentiates each of them (positively) from the others.

    All they have been is a forum by which a bunch of left-leaning reporters can create a gladiatorial spectacle and wound the candidates as much as possible, while giving Obama non-stop mouth hugs.

    Instead of having eight or more people on a stage trying to launch zingers and 5-second sound bites, why can’t they assign each a random number, then have maybe three of them square off at a time? Also, jettison some of the candidates who don’t have a prayer (Huntsman, Pawlenty, Santorum, Johnson (never heard of him); I know some have bailed out, but they should have been punted long ago/before they were).

    n.b. – I am not quibbling with or endorsing Perry’s decision to skip some of the future debates, at least for the reason he is planning to. I think most of them would do well to skip at least half of the future debates. It’s one thing to have a few debates; it’s another to have 23 of them (really).

    The only reason to watch the debates has been the same reason people watch cockroach, hog, crab, and hamster races – they just want to see them crash.

    I agree with WB on the debates. Too many, and the forums/moderators are designed to provide “gotcha” moments for the libs to use later. I will say, Newt has done the best job so far at not falling for the set up, and refusing to tear into his opponents. My respect for his abilities has grown, watching him in action.

    I don’t agree with counting out candidates just yet. Some weeks ago I heard Dan Patrick going on and on about how Cain, et al, should drop out of the race because his numbers were so low. Today, Cain is leading the pack in a lot of polls. Newt’s numbers are coming up. I like Santorum, too, from what I’ve seen so far. I say, let ’em slug it out. You never know what tomorrow will bring. The candidates will decide when they have had enough.

    I don’t agree with counting out candidates just yet. Some weeks ago I heard Dan Patrick going on and on about how Cain, et al, should drop out of the race because his numbers were so low. Today, Cain is leading the pack in a lot of polls. Newt’s numbers are coming up. I like Santorum, too, from what I’ve seen so far. I say, let ’em slug it out. You never know what tomorrow will bring. The candidates will decide when they have had enough.

    I agree that having so many in a debate is distracting, but I’m uncomfortable with telling anyone they have to exit the field. Free speech and all.

    That’s why maybe the whole debate schedule should be cut back. Let ’em work on other methods of getting their message out.

    The upcoming debate referenced in Hammy’s #50 would be very interesting. I hope I get to see it – I usually have to watch the debates over the ‘net after the fact. I’m usually too busy doing other things to sit and watch ’em live. Plus, we don’t have cable here.

Going with a standing seam metal roof which should be the last roof I ever have to put on the house. Pretty good discount on insurance too.

All designed so they will see the radiant glories of The One in comparison. What transparent fools these moderators are, and there is no reason why conservative candidates should continue to dance to their tunes. Especially since these shows only boost the viewership of otherwise failing networks, ‘cepting Fox that is. 🙂 Understand the Cartoon Network has a larger audience than CNN.

    I’m a Lance Berkman fan, so I’ve been enjoying watching him in the World Series, and while I really don’t have a dog in the hunt as to who ultimately wins the series, I guess I lean a little toward the Cards for that reason. Anyway, I gave up last night and went to be having awarded the pennant to the Rangers. It wasn’t until this morning that I found out that I should not have left until the fat lady had at least come out and warmed up. Press accounts indicate it was the game of the year.     In my book the 1st comes before the 14th:

    Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances.

    Doesn’t say anything in there about having to pay to peaceably assemble to petition the government for a redress of grievances. If the TP did pay, they did so voluntarily. It’s just that simple.
