I sometimes wonder if we fully appreciate how lucky we are. Great men like Monroe, Franklin, Washington, and Hamilton do not come in abundance. To have so many great minds in one place at a time of need is a miracle.

Our Constitution is far from perfect; but it is closer to it than anything else that I have seen on other shores. I love my country.

Most people just take it for granted, I try not to but I guess that I also fall into that catageory sometimes. Several years ago I purchased about 10 pocket versions of the Constitution and gave them away, mostly to my kids friends. I asked all of them to promise to read it.

Morning all. I am watering my 1/4 acre this a.m. With 3 sprinklers that I move every 30 mins till 10 a.m. Shooting out expensive CoH summer rate water. Also paying double the CoH sewer rate during the summer, even though all the extra water obviously is going onto the lawn, not down the sewer. Just trying to keep my trees, shrubs, grass and foundation alive. Lots of work, but boy o boy am I glad this water is available to me even on the limited basis!

Please accept my heartfelt gratitude for all of your kind wishes in this time of grief. Even though there is a gaping hole in my heart, I rejoice that my friend is no longer suffering. My/our loss is his gain, I rejoice because HE came to redeem us and my friend is now in HIS arms. I will see him again soon enough.
Use this time as a wake up call and use the time that we have to spend time with those that you love. Make sure by telling them that they know you love them.

Mharper – we put in garden meters, so you don’t have to pay sewer charges.

Boney – so true, so true, so true.

I’ll be off painting an apartment this weekend, and hopefully signing a lease with a family who is paying $130/night to stay at a motel. Husband was transferred and they didn’t line up a place before coming to the Clute/Sweeny/Lake Jackson area. From what I heard yesterday, the husband loved the outside of the unit…let’s just hope they like the inside enough to plunk down the bucks.

    ‘Cuz we need the money.

As far as the Constitution and our Founders go…

The Founding Fathers had a classical education, which is pretty much impossible to find, now. Philosophy and history shaped their thinking, and they were taught HOW to think, not just WHAT to think. To have so many great minds together in one place would be a miracle today, but probably just a near miracle back then. We have been blessed to have men of vision and bravery as our founders. The Constitution would be impossible to recreate in today’s political climate. Today, the facts of human nature and history are ignored for the politically correct emotion of the moment.

I know the men who initiated the activity that became this great nation are dead today, and largely despised by those who do not appreciate how we started and what we’ve become. I wish that I had a time machine so that I could go back and thank these men for what they did, and let them know how well their ideas have worked.

I ask God to continue blessing our nation and its people, idiots and thinkers alike. I pray that He guides us back to those basic principles of freedom so eloquently espoused in our founding documents.

Hubby and I were talking last night, and I again expressed my satisfaction with the fact the we poured so much money into the foundation of our home. So much money! During this drought, we have seen a few minor cracks in the brickwork, and that’s it. We told the architect that we didn’t want the house to shift, since even minor shifts show up in the many angles and connections that make up the dome. There is a hole near our back porch that I can slip my entire foot into, and the ground has pulled away from the house about an inch all around. We have an acre of land, and there is no way we can afford to water it. The grass is dead (except for the area around my garden, which I do water), the trees are shedding brown leaves, even the bamboo is turning brown (I never thought anything could kill that stuff), but the house is doing extremely well.

TT, I thought you had to have a golf-course-sized lawn, or maybe a big lawn and a swimming pool, to make it worthwhile to pay for a separate plumbing account for outdoor water use.

I have plantings near the foundation almost all the way around the house, so if I am watering those, it seems to keep the house happy. We have only one problem area where there is total hardscape as driveway meets patio near the back door. There is no way for that area to be watered except by a generous rain that just saturates the ground everywhere.

Good luck on the tenants! Some of your landlord stories have been gruesome.

This is not an original question, but how did The Greatest Generation raise the Worst Generation, namely the Baby Boomers? (Speaking generally & collectively.) And the following cohorts – Gen X; Gen Y; the Millenials – are increasingly worse in terms of patriotism and conservatism. Guess the GG’s were great because the schools had provided them a classical education, but the public schools were beginning to decline by the time the BB’s were coming up. So the GG’s failed to notice that their kids were not getting the civics instruction they had taken for granted themselves. Now it is almost too late to reverse the decline.

#16 M42: Joe McCarthy was correct in that we were being invaded by the commies. What a classic case of the right message with the wrong messenger. We, as a society, have allowed the lefty moonbats to take over our educational system and LSM, which, before talk radio and the innanet, prevented the next generation from easily learning the truth.
Now that the abject failures of liberalism/socialism/communism/fascism/centrally planned govt-economy is on brilliant display, we have a golden opportunity to try to educate the next gen. When we can point to the outright lies (and show them on you tube clips and others) and show the failure of the programs we may have an opportunity to purge the cancer from within.
Trusting the LSM or educational establishment to police themselves is absurd. Those who know and care need to be vigilant to call out the liars when they lie each and every time. When the lies are uttered, the lie needs to be called and then the truth needs to issue forth.
We, as a people need to stop supporting actors who promote lies by refusing to go to their movies, watch their TV programs and most importantly buying the products that advertise on those shows. A firm but polite letter to the advertiser may help in the process of cleaning out the crapola with which we are dealing.
When a public university allows teachers to promote outright lies (such as there is no absolute truth, or right and wrong are cultural constructs, or all cultures are equal) we need to demand accountability and start purging these institutions of the liars.
When a professor has the temerity to buck the prevailing current line of BS from academia, such as: all life formed by random chance and mutation from inanimate random chemicals and molecules, by saying that life is way too complex, with no intermediate steps possible, therefore there has to have been an Intelligent Designer – this professor is frequently frozen out of advancement and usually is out of a job.

When we built our house 38 years ago we used an engineered post-tensioned slab. They excavated completely through the gumbo for the grade beams (about 3 feet) after curing for a few weeks, they put thousands of pounds of tension on the cables. Our house has never shifted or cracked, never a stuck door or anything.

There oughtta be a website……..I got it, AttackWatch!! ๐Ÿ˜€

Michael Berry and others have been trying to skool us on doing more than voting and blogging, to be more vocal at the workplace and other places we gather where 1 person out of 10 or 15 tends to make the rules just because they are the loudest, to participate more at the schools and school boards and such. I work alone in the field so it’s hard for me to influence much, but I do my part by not turning down Rush Limbaugh anymore on the truck radio when the union thugs come around at the jobsites. ๐Ÿ˜›

One of the problems I see is the difference in our life’s ambitions, the lib kid grows up with the goal of working for a non-profit, places to hep the vunrbles. They quite naturally progress into the school boards, HOA’s :D, and gubment jobs. The conservative kid wants to make a good living, raise his kids and live around like minded, be in a church family. etc.

Not only did they pressure for the loan approval, now this pops up.

Obama admin reworked Solyndra loan to favor donor
    By MATTHEW DALY

    The Associated Press

WASHINGTON โ€” The Obama administration restructured a half-billion dollar federal loan to a troubled solar energy company in such a way that private investors โ€” including a fundraiser for President Barack Obama โ€” moved ahead of taxpayers for repayment in case of a default, government records show.
FILE – In this Aug. 31, 2011, file photo, Solyndra workers leave Solyndra in Fremont, Calif. Newly released emails show that the Obama administration was worried about the financial health of a troubled solar energy company even as officials publicly declared the company in good shape. An email from a White House budget official to a co-worker discussed the likely effect of a default by Solyndra Inc. on President Barack Obamaโ€™s re-election campaign.

Administration officials defended the loan restructuring, saying that without an infusion of cash earlier this year, solar panel maker Solyndra Inc. would likely have faced immediate bankruptcy, putting more than 1,000 people out of work.

Even with the federal help, Solyndra filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection earlier this month and laid off its 1,100 employees.

Do you simmer hummingbirds with some sugar until it’s thickened, then strain the feathers out?

The Hot Sauce festival in Stafford was neat. Several vendors giving samples of their own brand. Walking around sampling hot sauce and salsa was something new. Not sure where outside of Louisiana one can do that. The sausage on a stick is crawfish sausage. My wife offered a bite and did not say what it was. Once I got over the surprise of sausage tasting like crawfish it was …interesting. The garlic salsa was really good, don’t recall trying that before. If you go, get a bottle of water first. Waiting in line when you really need it is not fun.

    Moles have infiltrated

Something is digging small 1-cup-sized holes in my back yard, but I’ve never seen it so don’t know what it is. I have seen mole tunnels under grass in the neighborhood this spring, so I sorta know what that would look like, and I don’t have any tunnels. Could I have armadillos this far inside the city limits? (About 3 miles north of the North Loop.) White Oak Bayou is only one row of houses away from my yard, as a possible transit system for critters.

Michelle’s blouse has got to be the funniest thing I’ve seen on the ‘net for a while. And this crowd knows the impact of that statement.

We finally rented our 3BR unit today. A guy recently got a job with the Dept of Labor, inspecting rigs or some such, and the move was fast and unforgiving. According to his significant other, he took the job offer and then movers descended upon them and packed up his house. He, his girlfriend, and their various 5 children ended up in a motel paying $130 a night. They would have rented a series of large tents by the time they showed up at our place, but they are excited about moving in. She’s lived in the Lubbock area her whole life, and has never seen anything like the river lot they’re now going to live on. They went to Surfside yesterday so she could see the “ocean” for the first time ever. She said her jaw just dropped as they drove around looking for a place. They seem nice enough, even if they are ADD hampered. It was hard going through the lease signing, since they kept interrupting the process and each other the whole time. It was like dealing with five year olds. Maybe they were just relieved to have finally found a place, where their kids aren’t right on top of them.

As for the painting, I’ll be feeling it tomorrow. It’s been a while since I’ve painted. It uses a whole different set of muscles from the ones I use typing on the computer all day.

Yup, setting up for a big acoustic test on a Lockheed test panel. My guys had to do a lot of custom fitting to make it fit the chamber opening and still be acoustically sound. They used a lot of MDF cut at odd, compound angles, think crown molding with a 45 deg going into a 90 deg. I’m working on the instrumentation, (microphones, accelerometers). ๐Ÿ˜‰

They used a lot of MDF cut at odd, compound angles, think crown molding with a 45 deg going into a 90 deg. I’m working on the instrumentation, (microphones, accelerometers). ๐Ÿ˜‰

I’m really not surprised by this article in the NYSlimes. What I do find appalling is the abject refusal to view the “palestenian” Israeli issue from a neutral standpoint; almost every news outlet takes a hard pro-pal stance. I’ll ask the question again: How long do you think the US would tolerate rockets, missiles and suicide bombers fired at civilian targets from Mexico or Canada?? At what point would there be full scale war to absolutely wipe out all who were even remotely responsible, assisting, or even those who were not actively fighting against the bombers??
Israel has been way more than patient and tolerant, they gave up 75% of their original 1920 territory for peace and have never seen it.

Do you think at least part of the reason virtually all liberals scorn Israel is the religion angle? Liberals do scorn those who are religious. I definitely don’t understand why liberals seem to love moooslims. Something to do with ’em being downtrodden minority (+99% non-white), I suppose. Most of the downtrodden-ness is surely due to the primitive culture most of them espouse. Islam seems to me to be a phony religion — more of a repressed political system than a spiritual belief system. But I have been pleased lately to see a few Muslims who have immigrated to North America speaking out against Sharia Law, e.g. here’s one in Canada:

Will this be the thing that starts the Impeachment ball rolling?

    By MATTHEW DALY
    The Associated Press

WASHINGTON โ€” The Obama administration restructured a half-billion dollar federal loan to a troubled solar energy company in such a way that private investors โ€” including a fundraiser for President Barack Obama โ€” moved ahead of taxpayers for repayment in case of a default, government records show.

This is flagrant corruption of the highest order. The Ds don’t like him as wherever he goes -they lose; the Rs don’t like him because he is in line for another Nobel prize, this one in alchemy: for turning the US economy to crap.
The Ds want another candidate because they know they are gonna lose huge in 2012 if O is on the ticket. Is this the way to pressure him to step aside?

#89 M42 you have just nailed it.

Islam seems to me to be a phony religion โ€” more of a repressed political system than a spiritual belief system.

What most people fail to consider is that islime is a political system in addition to a devil worshiping religion. Islime dominates every aspect of life in sharia ruled islimic countries. Just like in early Salem MA, if you did not like someone all you had to do was accuse them of witchcraft and they were dead. The trial/inquisition was structured in such a way that if you survived the inquiry you were a witch and were then burned at the stake. A similar thing happens in sharia ruled countries, if you are accused of “blasphemy” it is a death sentence, as it is impossible to prove innocence. How does one prove that he did not commit blasphemy? Under sharia law, a non-mooooooooooooooslim is not considered capable of testimony in sharia court, so if one is accused how does one even attempt to claim innocence??

Good morning Hamsters. On the edge of the rainfall as usual yesterday, only 0.05″. Richmond got .26″, but that’s on the other side of the river. And this morning Richmond got more while we got a light mist. Watching the radar from the SW in hopes something good drifts over us. At least it’s overcast and pleasantly cool starting at 74 at 6 and only getting to 77 now.

I see that Michele Bachmann’s attack on Rick Perry over the Gardasil incident has backfired bigtime and is doing her immensely more harm than it has done him. Now the medical community is rightly posing strong rejoinders about vaccinations in general as well as Gardasil, and she and her staff are in full retreat on repeating and implicitly endorsing the seriously dubious claim the anonymous woman made post debate about her daughter becoming mentally retarded after having the vaccination. The recovery attempt reply is she was just repeating what the woman said, not to be construed as she endorsed it. This is a Gotcha that will be hard to erase.

I don’t doubt for one minute that the woman was a lib plant to see if Michele would bite so they could damage her campaign. The libs fear her, and so any dirty trick is fair game. She and her staff must be more wary. For her sake I hope it wasn’t a fatal mistake. We know of course that Al Gore, Barack Obama, and Joe Biden have made and continue to make equal or worse gaffes with little consequence because the drooling, yapping jackcals in the MSM are there to bury them if possible or spin them if burial is not possible. Such is the present state of politics. If you wish peace, prepare for war likely has several applications.

It has been circulating for MONTHS and has been sent to over 25 million

    Please keep it going!
