I heard on FoxNews this am, something somewhere last night, and again this morning on 700am. . . . . . .Obama has terminated a contract (early) and grounded most, if not all the federal firefighting airtankers. To add insult to injury he has prohibited allowing the federal firefighters (US Forest service?) from using foam to help fight the fires. Foam extends the water’s capability to quench fire by five fold.
A reasonable question to ask is why?
Is he really that vindictive, that he would actively hinder firefighting efforts in a state that is experiencing its worst drought in history? Is he intentionally causing (through his grounding of the air tanker fleet and prohibition of fire foam) people to lose their lives, not to mention everything they own because this state had the temerity to not vote for him in 2008 AND is growing in prosperity in spite of all his efforts? Does he really think that this is going to help him in his 2012 re-election effort? -

The O/C video was/is impressive to say the least. It doesn’t matter how small you may feel, you are an important part of the bigger picture.

Absolutely!
Does he really think that this is going to help him in his 2012 re-election effort?
He doesn’t care because he knows that there is NO WAY he’ll carry Texas.
I hope that clears it up for ya’.

Where has OBH really gotten us in 3 years?
GENEVA (AP) – The United States has tumbled further down a global ranking of the world’s most competitive economies, landing at fifth place due to its massive deficits and declining public faith in government, a global economic group said Wednesday.
Sep 7 06:59 AM US/Eastern
By JOHN HEILPRIN
Associated PressThe announcement by the World Economic Forum was the latest bad news for the Obama administration, which has been struggling to boost the sinking American economy and lower an unemployment rate of more than 9 percent.
Switzerland held onto the top spot for the third year in a row in the annual ranking by the Geneva-based forum, which is best known for its exclusive meeting of luminaries in Davos, Switzerland, each January.
Singapore moved up to second place, bumping Sweden down to third. Finland moved up to fourth place, from seventh last year. The United States was in fourth place last year, after falling from No. 1 in 2008.
The rankings, which the forum has issued for more than three decades, are based on economic data and a survey of 15,000 business executives. The forum praised the United States for its productivity, highly sophisticated and innovative companies, excellent universities and flexible labor market. But it also cited “a number of escalating weaknesses” such as rising government debt and declining public faith in political leaders and corporate ethics.
Switzerland held its top rank, the forum said, due to “continuing strong performance across the board” with innovation, technological readiness, even-handed regulation and having one of the world’s most stable economic environments.

I hope that clears it up for ya’.I don’t think that anyone who has the capacity to fog a mirror believes that he can carry Texas; the question is how many voters in other states will see the unmitigated partisan hate and wonder if their state is going to be next? Will it be enough to cause the bulk of the country to reach for the political toilet flusher and start over with whomever the R pick is? Will O’s searing incompetence/malevolence be enough to cause him to be primaried?

From Bonecrusher’s link. Now THIS is the way the Obummer adminstration handles jobs!
“We were certified to fly all season, but they just terminated us and threw 60 people out of work and left the country vulnerable to fires, as you can see right now in Texas,” said Britt Gourley, CEO for Aero Union.
Snip~
“We wanted to sit down with them and ask why it was canceled and find a quick resolution, but they didn’t want to talk about it. They just said, ‘We don’t want the airplanes, have a nice life,’ ” Gourley said. “I had to let go of my staff–60 people and their families were devastated,” Gourley said. “It’s really been tragic.”…..Sigh 🙁

Good morning Hamsters. A wonderfully cool 58 this morning a 6 and barely a breath of an E breeze so far that’s predicted to be NE as the day advances. Yesterday it was 56 in the morning, rated that as crisp.
The past two late afternoons into evening and Sundown the haze and smoke smell from the Magnolia area fires has spread to the Richmond/Rosenberg area. In the mornings and until about 2 pm the air is clear and fresh here. Gratefully the wind is greatly diminished from Sunday and Monday, so the valiant firemen, support staff, and volunteers have a fighting chance.
Now where are those @%&! water carrying planes? Do we need a Texas bounty on the government fools who cancelled the contract? We do need an investigation headed by Texas Representatives and Senators. And joined by all the other states currently suffering wildfires. An investigative posse.

Before I retired from the nasty petrochemical engineering/construction business, we used dual monitor set-ups so we could have drawings/documents open on one monitor and do calculations/design on the other and transport them one to the other with a point and shoot. Like being in heaven, it was.

Pyro, I finally had the 8 mins to watch the video straight through. An impressive feat, but I would like to know more about it. The vocals sound native American, but I wouldn’t know where to begin to search for this performance genre. Got a link to some text, or can you tell us a bit about it?

Cops: Man found butchering cow in driveway
Sept. 6, 2011 05:28 PM
Associated PressOGDEN, Utah — Authorities are considering charges after a Utah man was found butchering a cow in his driveway.
The Standard-Examiner of Ogden reports that authorities received a call Sunday afternoon from an Ogden resident who reported a neighbor cutting up a cow in his driveway. The caller told authorities they heard what sounded like a gunshot shortly before the butchering began.
Police say when officers arrived, the man was removing the cow’s head. He denied shooting the animal, and told the officers it had been delivered dead.
Prosecutors are now reviewing the case for potential charges, including possible health code violations.

Mutton taste terrible. Years ago I shot a Fallow deer (they are closer to the sheep family than the deer family). Brought it home and cut it up. It was to strong to even make sausage out of. The white head sure made a pretty mount, though. I donated the meat to the wildlife for the poor.

BTW – our tenants did skip out on us. We now have two units available, one of which needs a door replacement (for some reason, they ripped the frame off the wall and took the door off the hinges):
Sweeny/W Columbia area, quiet, riverfront properties. Two units separated by a garage/breezeway. About an hour’s drive from Houston, for those who like country living:
3BR/2BA: Large living room with new wood floors, patio doors to the backyard and river. Concrete driveway wraps around from front to back, so lots of parking. Kitchen comes furnished with dishwasher, cooktop, oven, refrigerator. (Garbage compactor is jammed and we are not replacing nor repairing.) Kitchen island. Separate laundry room next to kitchen, inside unit. Tenant is responsible for electricity. Unit is on its own well. No gas appliances. We have not repainted, but unit is otherwise pretty much ready to go. $850/month, $500 deposit
2BR/2BA: Cleaned yesterday, not painted. Needs new door in one bedroom. Needs some minor fixes (outlet covers, etc.) Wood floors in living room. Also riverfront view. Laundry next to kitchen, inside the unit. Nice big kitchen with island. Kitchen has microwave, refrigerator, stove. Opens directly into garden area. $650/month, $300 deposit
Prefer no pets. If you know of anyone who might be interested, please have them email to [email protected]
Thanks, guys. We need to get these rented asap. My helper who was with me yesterday kept saying over and over “Why would anyone want to leave here? It’s so peaceful!” It is a nice lot, and the river is right there!

Shannon #15 nails it. Gov. Perry should do just that and pay for it by withholding the federal gasoline tax. We will hear cheering from most of the country. And the parts that aren’t cheering will be in shock, and they don’t count anyhow.

Obama’s abortion absolutism and the 1st Amendment.
This President, as a State Senator, voted against a bill requiring doctors to care for babies born after failed abortions (and then misled the media on the matter). As a candidate, he promised his first act would be signing the sweeping “Freedom of Choice Act,” which would wipe out nearly all limitations on abortion and abortion subsidies. And then during the budget debates we saw him draw nearly his only line in the sand over Planned Parenthood subsidies.
It’s abortion absolutism. Everything else — free assembly, free speech, conscience protection, and his party’s other interests — they all take a back seat to protecting abortion. -

The San Bernard is not a fast flowing river, but it does have some barge traffic and recreational boat traffic. They’ve had mosquitoes, but usually not as bad as I’d expect, with the water so close and such opportunity for breeding. This dry summer has helped a lot.
The year I met Hubby’s mother and father was the year the mosquitoes down there were so bad that cattle were dropping dead of blood loss. I never want to repeat that year again. /shudder

BASTROP — Firefighting-trained volunteers from around the state converged on Bastrop and Smithville Tuesday to lend a hand to the beleaguered local firefighters battling the Bastrop County Complex Fire — only to be sent away as federal officials arrived at the scene and took command, apparently because local officials never made a formal request for volunteers.
“We were at the station getting set up into strike teams, and this guy came up and said that the U.S. Forest Service had ‘assumed control of the situation, and that ‘If you don’t have a vehicle that squirts water, go home,’” said Gordon Greer of Kirbyville, who drove all night Monday to arrive in the town beset by the worst wildfire in Texas history. “You’ve got guys who had driven all night long from Corpus Christi and Brownsville on their own dime, and they turned them away. He was really a (bleep) about it.

Its just frikkin weird. Sounds like the guy was killed during kinky sex and the guy who killed him went to sleep afterwards.
This is more about drugs than it is about being gay.

Howdy Hamsterousians! Goodgawdamighty, it’s cold. 😯 Can’t believe it’s like this but I’m not complaining.
Prayers to all whose friends are in the fires. I know some folks up there, too. Some are OK, some ??
Ms. Adee, I hope y’all have checked out the hay sellers, are they able to verify the moisture content of the bales? Upon looking through the web, I found a bunch of sites that have info. Too numerous to mention here, but I searched “hay spontaneous combustion caused by” and got a bunch of information. Some from tech schools, some from farmers’ industry sites. A “must read” for you. It is crucial that your hay storage be monitored daily for temperature increases if the source is questionable and/or the stacking of the bales is not the configuration which is safest. The timeframe spans 1-2 months.
Saw Baby Dillo yesterday, he was a lot more fiesty and moving faster.
Back to errands.
(retreats back into LurkCave, frantically searching for wool blankets, long johns, handwarmers, and recipe for hot toddies. Forget that cold adult beverage in the fridge, it’s passe’ 😉 … well, on second thought, wouldn’t want it to go to waste, should I heat it in the microwave??)

I am about to embark on a new year of educating young minds full of mush. Tonight I begin my new faith formation year….
…with a new pastor, who I hear is a stickler about teaching FROM THE BOOK. Well, I teach from the text book, and the Bible, and a whole slew of apologetics resources. I don’t think the Bible will be a problem, but I’m hoping he approves of all of the “added” material I have, else I’m in for a world of headaches as I restructure my whole curriculum.
Wish me luck. My goal is also to keep better control of the hecklers this year.

I have become convinced that school is the problem. My recent experience has been that several of the young men who were well behaved and attentive all summer long have become rebellious and inattentive after two weeks of school.

No, I don’t require service hours or projects, though some of my students need ’em for their public high school requirements. Next year, as they go through their final preparation for the sacrament of Confirmation, they will have them.
My students are required to attend class regularly, pay attention, and make one retreat with me this year.

I’ll have to admit that the Administration never ceases to pull out all the stops when it comes to its war with Texas. Just cancelling it’s contract to provide fire fighting airplanes right here “in season” and forcing them to sit idle while Texas burns just blows me away.

If John Huntsman ever had a chance of getting the nomination, he just chucked it out the window.

My favorite debate event was comment that Texas under Perry has executed 200-some-odd people, more than any other state in history, and that got audience applause!

Well, it didn’t take long fpor Hoffa supporters to attack the “puppies”.
Hoffa supporters have created a Facebook page on which they have posted the address of tea partier Justen Charters and are encouraging fellow Hoffa supporters to send human excrement through the federal mail system. Why? Because Charters came up with the idea to sent 1,000 tea bags to Jimmy Hoffa, Jr.

I agree completely with Perry on Social Security but…
Update: A Romney advisor e-mails Ben Smith the following about Perry: “He has lost. No federal candidate has ever won on the Perry program to kill Social Security. Never has. never will.”
…unfortnately this email may speak the truth. 🙁
