Thursday Motorcycle Enthusiast Open Comments

The below graphic does a pretty good job of categorizing motorcycle enthusiasts.

It doesn’t mention those pansies with those retarded vehicles with two front wheels and one rear wheel. Those things are ridden by people with absolutely no self-esteem whatsoever.
Update:
You can also tell a lot about motorcycle enthusiasts by the way they park. To wit:
Good motorcycle enthusiast:

Another fine, upstanding motorcycle enthusiast:

Spawn of Satan jackass dork-weasel idiot scooter rider:

See how easy it is?

I am just finishing Patriots by James Wesley Rawles. It is a novel about the collapse of U.S. Government due to of all thing an economic meltdown. Rawles is a non-fiction survivalist author/consultant and his “How to Survive the End of the World as We Know It” is parked next to my dog eared Army FM 21-76.

I find it ironic that Rawles choose an economic collapse to be the cause as opposed to nuclear attack, EMP, or bio terror.

    From Empower Texans

One day after declaring a Phase 1 Emergency because of record electricity use, the City of Austin released the locations of 103 electric-car charging stations that all tap into the power grid.

    snip

So what better way to reduce the stress of the power grid experiencing all-time demand than to power electric-car charging stations?

Only a day after the emergency declaration, Austin Energy released the locations of 103 charging stations around town, all of which will be tapping into the power grid thatโ€™s near max capacity. Karl Rabago, a representative of Austin Energy admitted to KVUE News in the past that โ€œElectric charging adds a new and significant load to the grid that can have impact to the number of transformers, the size of the wire and the operations of the grid.โ€

That grid (which powers the entire state) could see mandatory power disruptions for large businesses and rolling blackouts if situations donโ€™t improve.

So where is the City of Austin getting the money to build these stations? That would be you, the taxpayer. Funding for the public stations came from a federal stimulus grant. And if you live in Austin, chances are your tax dollars are paying for someoneโ€™s home charging stations too. For months, Austin Energy has been handing out $1,500 rebate checks to subsidize the costs of a home installation.

Good morning Hamsters. OK, another 75 at 6 but not as pleasant as yesterday’s morning. Comfort vanished sooner also. Spouse is out on the garden tractor mowing the horse mint in the pastures before the heat really sets in. Horses don’t eat horse mint, and we wonder where it got the name. He will return dripping and smudged here and there from all the dust the tractor stirs up. The bermuda grass amazingly hasn’t gone dormant yet, but it isn’t growing other than where the sprinklers reach. The mares are making the best of things and haven’t yet needed hay put out during the day. That day will likely come soon.

Question for the bike riders out there. We’ve seen TV ads for 3-wheel cycles recently, and they appear to require less training to ride than the 2 wheelers if you believe the ads. Are they aimed at aging baby boomers and the generation behind them? They certainly look spiffy. And probably expensive. Obviously 3 wheels are more stable than 2, but tricycles can overturn too. Ask any toddler.

So debt equals GDP now that Obama Rama Ding Dong got his spendthrift way on Monday. You know he will rip through that like greased lightning. Can’t continue sharing my thoughts…decorum here will not allow it. ๐Ÿ™‚ I’ll go fill the fountain instead. It’s down 4 gallons again. The woodsy folk won’t take offense.

#28 Pyro: The condition, plantar fasciaitis, tends to be rooted in tight muscles that lie next to the shin bone on the inside of the leg. The symptoms can be treated quite effectively by rolling the foot on a golf ball. Do this from a seated postion, bare foot, on carpet. The golf ball is the perfect size and is hard enough to be able to easily control and get very specific with the bad zones. Some complicating factors are crappy shoes (high heels) or shoes that are worn out and offer little/no support.
To treat the underlying condition do the following:
    STOP WEARING WISSIN HIGH HEELS
get some therapy to the area next to the shin bone on the inside. You may want to contact a pro to get this done properly.

Give credit where credit is due. The Army Field Survival Manual is a well written book. I feel the same about Rawlesโ€™s How to Survive the End of the Worldโ€ฆ.

Books of the survivalist genre are typically packed full of political gibberish that is useless. Rawlesโ€™s book is well organized and does not come off like the rest of the Black Heliocopter-FEMA-Concentration Camp wack jobs.

Another book to add to the list is the Boy Scout Manual. I was never a Scout, but I always had a copy in my backpack when I was young. I understand that the older versions are more useful than the current versions, but have not verified that independently.

I got my first copy of FM21-76 at the beginning of SEER Class way back in 1972. I thumbed through the Table of Contents and saw one on Firearms. Being a 19 year old gun nut, it went immediately to that chapter. The first thing it said was words to the effect of

“While firearms are useful in Survival Situations, cutting tools are essential.”

I’ve carried a pocket knife ever since, and when I go out on the trail I carry it, one of these with 50 feet of 550 cord wrapped around the sheath, a 6″ bowie, and a multi-tool.

The best survival “literature” that I’ve found is on the web in a multitude of “zombie apocalypse” sites. I’ve mentioned them before, but I do think that the theory that if you prepare for a zombie apocalypse, you’ll be prepared for anything.

SAO PAULO (AP) — The city council of South America’s biggest city has adopted legislation calling for a Heterosexual Pride Day to be celebrated on the third Sunday of each December.

Sao Paulo Mayor Gilberto Kassab must sign the legislation for it to become law and has said only that he is studying it. His office declined Wednesday to say whether he supports the proposal.

The legislation’s author, Carlos Apolinario, said the idea for a Heterosexual Pride Day is “not anti-gay but a protest against the privileges the gay community enjoys.”

As an example, he mentioned how Sao Paulo’s huge gay pride day parade is held every year on Paulista Avenue, one of the main thoroughfares in this city of 20 million people, while the March for Jesus organized by evangelical groups is not allowed on the same avenue.

Hmmmm, a lesson from the Paulistas?

The fine, upstanding parishioners at the Westboro Baptist “Church” are planning to show their respects at some of the funerals of people who were killed in the recent bombing and shootings in Norway. I hope the Norwegians don’t let them into the country.

Even better would be if they were allowed to protest that the Norwegian police acted like German or Korean police when dealing with such people.

Torben: ร˜ystein! Why are these prisoners so bruised and bloody?
ร˜ystein: They fell down some stairs.
Torben: That’s ridiculous! Nobody could look that bad after merely falling down some stairs.
ร˜ystein: They fell down a lot of stairs? Then they got up and fell down some more. It was like they were addicted to falling down stairs. They could hardly walk back up to the top of them after a while.
Torben: Oh. ok then. Tell them they should be more careful.

Do the Bible and nuclear military training mix? Some U.S. Air Force members and their supporters say โ€œno way.โ€

Following debate, the Air Force has suspended a course that was taught by chaplains for more than 20 years after complaints that class material included Biblical passages. CNN reports:

    [SEE VIDEO]

The course, entitled, โ€œChristian Just War Theory,โ€ used passages from both the New and Old Testaments to make the case to missile launch officers that going to war can be a moral choice. The Christian Post sheds more light on the courseโ€™s controversial contents:

A PowerPoint presentation obtained from the course referenced scripture verses such as Hebrews 11 to show that people of faith can and have engaged in war, in a section entitled โ€œWar and Faith.โ€ The section also cited biblical figures including Abraham, Samson and David as religious figures that fought wars in a righteous mannerโ€ฆ

The course also taught ethical principles such as a โ€œwin at all costs will cost you.โ€œ A nuclear ethics section encouraged trainees to consider the deadly power of nuclear weapons and ask such questions as โ€Can you imagine a set of circumstances that would warrant a nuclear launch from the U.S. knowing that it would kill thousands of non-combatants?โ€

The Air Force suspended the class on the same day that a complaint was filed by the Military Religious Freedom Foundation on behalf of 31 instructors and students. The military will now review whether the material should be amended or if the class, itself, should be axed. Fox Nation has more:

โ€ฆthe Military Religious Freedom Foundation said the course violated the Constitutional Separation of Church and State. The organization was created to โ€œdirectly battle the far-right militant radical evangelical fundamentalistsโ€ in the military.

If President Obama needed any more indication of how much his public support has eroded, he need look no further than a recent memorandum of sorts published in the New York Times by former President Bill Clintonโ€™s pollster, Stanley Greenberg. Listen to Greenberg, whose progressive polling firm partners with Clinton strategist James Carville, advise Obama and Democrats on what his latest round of polls and focus groups reveal are their only hope to survive politically, given the current reality:

โ€ขโ€œVoters in the developed world are turning away from Democrats, Socialists, liberals and progressives.โ€
โ€ขโ€œVoters feel ever more estranged from governmentโ€”and they associate Democrats with government.โ€
โ€ขโ€œIf they are to win trust, and votes, Democrats must show they are as determined as the Tea Party movement to change the rules of the game.”
โ€ขโ€œThis distrust of government and politicians is unfolding as a full-blown crisis of legitimacy [and] sidelines Democrats and liberalism.”
โ€ขGreenberg says that his public opinion research now reveals that voters believe, โ€œGovernment rushes to help the irresponsible and does little for the responsible.”
โ€ขTo win, Democrats must โ€œadvocate policies that would control the borders and address problems of undocumented workers,โ€ and voters want to โ€œsee strong enforcement at the border and in the workplace, and the expulsion of troublesome undocumented immigrants.”
โ€ขโ€œFinally, progressives have to be serious about reducing the countryโ€™s long-term deficitsโ€ because โ€œthe deficit matters to people and has real meaning and consequences.โ€

To recap, after analyzing his reams of public opinion research, President Clintonโ€™s pollster just advised the most progressive President in American history to mimic the Tea Partyโ€™s resolve, stop government from rewarding the irresponsible over the responsible, crack down on illegal immigration and get tough on border enforcement, stop illegal immigrants from being hired over legal citizens, and deport violent or law-breaking illegal immigrants, and to top it all off, Obama and the Democrats should stop the governmentโ€™s profligate spending spree and bring down deficits.

Thought you might find this web site interesting, the VSPA

The Vietnam Security Police Association, Inc. (USAF) is an association of USAF Vietnam War veterans who served in Vietnam or Thailand between July 1, 1958 and May 15, 1975, as Air / Security Police (Permanent Change of Station, TDY, or as an Augmentee).

It is a little bit unwieldily to navigate but it does illustrate from back then to now (and even further back in earlier conflicts) the AF has their own infantry of men that have served with honor and gallantry above and beyond. Here is a link from there with a list of stories form Vietnam.

Ya give me heck about not engaging in the intra-service joviality. Maybe I am still a bit touchy about some things and for that I apologize. But, let there be no question I am proud to have been associated with these people not only as an instructor but as a comrade in arms.

The history of the AF Security Police may not be as movie worthy as say the Army, Navy or Marines but their service is no less admirable in light of the fact they are the front line security for Air Force bases in theaters of wars and quite often suffered just as terribly as the Army or Marines did in the field in defending those installations.

The red car was in an oddball spot. Scooter boy always parks there and prolly gets there before the red car. The red car spot is on the end so there’s a triangular area next to it that would be perfect for the scooter. It’s the complementary area to where the red Harley is parked.

We bought one of those ankle/calf massagers for our aunt shortly before she died. I think she used it 2 or 3 times and it has been in a box since 2009. It was a nice one and we paid about $150 for it.

Had you been about 2 days quicker in your request, I would have sent it to you UPS, but I gave it away on Tuesday.

KatFish,…Yeh Baby!! I love the Unlimited Hydro’s, back in another life BC, (before children) I went to several of the races, the first @ lake Bluestem in Kansas then a few on here on Clear Lake, before they did away with them. Of course back in the day they powered by Merlin V 12 aircraft engines that were re-cammed to turn 5500 RPM instead of the 2800 RPM they were designed for. This increased the HP dramatically. For you folks in Rio Linda, an aircraft engine is usally limited to less than 2800 RPM to keep the prop tips from going supersonic so that is why a 540 CID Lycoming has only 250-300 HP. When I got away from the sport they were just starting to try a few Lycoming helicopter engines but they always had trouble with too much water entering the huge intake. It took a few years but now they’ve figgered it out. The neat thing about the hydros is that you are flying about a foot above the water balanced on the prop and bouncing back and forth from the left sponson to the right. The idea is to fly the boat close to the water to get the most speed, you screw when you really get airborne and flip the dang thang backwards. ๐Ÿ˜€

Nanci Pelosi may be from China:

Not aborting fetuses will soon be a crime in San Francisco.

At least thatโ€™s what the city government is pushing for in its bizarre new attack on pregnancy counseling centers.

Actually, โ€œbizarreโ€ is too mild a word to describe San Franciscoโ€™s latest outburst; even from my pro-choice perspective, the cityโ€™s attempt to essentially banish any counseling center which doesnโ€™t encourage or perform abortions is simply beyond belief.

Yesterday, City Attorney Dennis Herrera and Supervisor Malia Cohen acting on behalf of the municipal government launched a โ€œcoordinated attackโ€ on pregnancy counseling centers that didnโ€™t provide or advocate for abortions:

San Francisco leaders are launching a coordinated attack against what they call โ€œone of the most serious threats to reproductive rights todayโ€ โ€” so-called crisis pregnancy centers that advertise as though they provide abortions, but counsel against them.

In a joint press conference with Supervisor Malia Cohen, City Attorney Dennis Herrera said the โ€œright-wing, politically motivated centersโ€ use false advertisements to target vulnerable populations and can cost women valuable time as they decide whether or not to end a pregnancy.

โ€œWomenโ€™s reproductive rights are under assault,โ€ Herrera said.

The two officials both took action against the centers Tuesday: Cohen introduced legislation that would prohibit centers from making misleading statements about the services they provide, while Herrera took the first step toward legal action against a center he accused of doing just that.

I kept restaurants sized baking pans under my FXDL to keep the oil off of the floor. The mechanics at a couple of the scooter shops say it is because of insufficent warm up time. I am not so sure. My Low Rider is a cold cold hearted lady and she has to warmed up before we go anywhere.

If I get another bike it will be a trike. I thought about a side hack. There is a Russian Motorcycle called a Ural. It is essentially a BMW deriviative from a WW-II design. I wanted to get one with a camo paint job and have a big red star painted on the side car.

I live a few miles west of New York City in Bergen County, NJ. The big local thrift store run by the hospital auxiliary burned down and the Salvation Army lost their lease. A couple of others suffered similar defeat. None of them are re-opening. It’s not as easy as you think here. I think those thrift outfits have a very hard time both keeping up with the ridicuous local regulations and the high cost of real estate here.

In the last two years, I’ve donated an $800 automatic hospital bed, an expensive compressor driven air mattress for bedridden, 2 pricey wheelchairs, walkers, canes, potty chairs, etc. All of it went to a local group that flies around the world treating burn victims. Most of what we donated went to their facility in Haiti.

I could never find a taker for that massager, not for 2 years anyway, while I moved it again and again.
