Well, I was out taking care of personal stuff last night. I guess everyone else was, too.
I have a limited time this morning, as I must get in some exercise (as per my desire and doctor’s orders), then I must traverse the distance ‘twixt my office and the brand-spanking new permits building that was mentioned in yesterday’s comments (which I scanned this morning).
The old permit building at 3300 Main had parking for customers. Sometimes it was tight, but if the lot was full there was usually parking on a nearby street that didn’t involve the city choking more money out my wallet. I hear the parking at the new space s—, well, isn’t as generous.
I noticed that parking for employees was the only reference to the parking situation in the linked article.
I’d rather have a parking lot than art. But I’m sure the beaurocraps don’t think about that.
Anyway, the door is open, the couch is relatively clear of kitty barf and newspapers. The plunger still resides behind the toilet, and I just made a fresh pitcher of tea. Come on in and make yourselves at home!

A good deed never goes unpunished. I wonder if the Jeter or the ball club will foot his IRS bills?
I thought it was classy that he gave Jeter #3000 ball. I guess the IRS wants to yank his.

#4 TT: from the comments section in your linkie thingie:
The tax system is not a system for revenue it is a system for punishing. The sooner we destroy our present system the better…..Way to go Christian. The memory of that moment will last forever…..
That was a mouthful, but oh so true. Our current tax system is not designed to produce the maximum amount of revenue AND minimum burden to the tax payers; it is designed to socially engineer to make everything “fair”.
The only “fair” system would be a National Retail Sales Tax (this tax should never exceed 15%) and the abolition of all other federal taxes and fees. -

Coupla things on the budget:
1. Cutting out Obamacare would immediately save $2 trillion.
2. Since we have already reached the debt ceiling, stand fast on no new taxes, which will produce a stalemate. Then vote only to extend the existing budget, as is, for short periods of time while “working” on the new budget. Since the existing budget is maxed out, that means they can’t spend any more. While I’m at it, also Boehner should refuse to allow any bill to come to the floor if it has any riders attached to it. (From either party)

This is an excellent video from the Fund for American Studies, an academic program to promote and support capitalism and liberty. Featured is Dr. Michael Cox of Southern Methodist University.
Mark Levin participated in TFAS as a student and Fred Barnes is a trustee of the program.
The video is hosted by the very lovely Michelle Fields of Pepperdine University and now a guest commentator on Fox Business Network. She is also very active in the campus based Students for Liberty organization.

Sitting together on a train was Obama, a Texan, a little old lady and a young blonde girl with large mammarian assets.
The train goes into a dark tunnel and a few seconds later there is the sound of a loud slap. When the train emerges from the tunnel, Obama has a bright red hand print on his cheek. No one speaks.
The old lady thinks: Obama must have groped the blonde in the dark and she slapped him.
The blonde girl thinks: Obama must have tried to grope me in the dark but missed and fondled the old lady and she slapped him.
Obama thinks: The Texan must have groped the blonde in the dark. She tried to slap him but missed and got me instead.
The Texan thinks: I can’t wait for another tunnel so I can slap the snot out of Obama again.

Adee, looks like there are some storm clouds moving through Ft Bend County, hope you get some rain today. I am expecting some and can hear thunder getting closer.
My old oak is now a pile of trunk cylinders stacked up at the curb waiting for the city mulch haul. I’ll always wonder if I could have kept it going if I had watered it every single day since the drought started.
I was scheduled for a work conference call at 10 am and was afraid I’d be contributing the background noise from chain saws and stump grinder, but my trimmers were finished and gone by then. The conference was interrupted by a fire drill in the building, and after that, by window washers making noise outside the 20th floor conference room windows.

Biologists at Wageningen University in the Netherlands enlisted the help of 250 drivers for a “splash teller” study. Each motorist had to wipe his or her car license plate clean then tot up the bug body count at the end of their drive.
“They are by far the richest species groups in all countries, and therefore play an essential role in the food chain,” biologist Arnold van Vliet, one of a team working on the project, told Reuters.
“Many birds such as swallows, who hunt for insects, depend on insect density. If insect numbers are low they inevitably face severe problems finding food for their young,” he said.
Insects are not only important pollinators of commercial and wild plants, but also form a crucial part of the diet of many animals including birds and bats.
Wait, wait wiat. let me guess. Government regulationas on Dutch driving?

San Jose budget cuts aren’t hurting all businesses, and in fact, one group in particular seems to be cashing in on the city’s economic woes: prostitutes.
Prostitution has made a rapid comeback to San Jose street corners in the past few weeks, according to NBC Bay Area sources.
After police budgets were slashed July 1, San Jose PD’s Vice Unit was disbanded, said San Jose Police Department spokesman Jose Garcia. This meant that part of their job responsibility – cracking down on prostitution and brothels – was reassigned to the police department’s Covert Response Unit.

In California alone, nearly 1,000 deaths and injuries each year are blamed directly on drugged drivers, according to CHP data, and law enforcement puts much of the blame on the rapid growth of medical marijuana use in the last decade. Fatalities in crashes where drugs were the primary cause and alcohol was not involved jumped 55% over the 10 years ending in 2009.
Hmmmmmm, could be.

If he focuses on the hopeless (for him) presidential race and retires after that, that means that he won’t be focusing on his constitutional elected duties in the House. Somehow, I have a problem with that.

Next in the D playbook: Scare the schizzle out of Senior Citizens
President Obama on Tuesday said he cannot guarantee that retirees will receive their Social Security checks August 3 if Democrats and Republicans in Washington do not reach an agreement on reducing the deficit in the coming weeks
One would think that with so many new seniors added to the roles over the last 10 years or so, who have witnessed the obscene demagoguery from the mouths of D-terds, that this trick would not work anymore; we shall see.

Is anyone else concerned about all these executive orders? All those things do is allow obama to rule by signature. What is to keep him from creating a crisis, declaring (executive order) martial law and staying in office forever?

We will not have elections in 2012.
If , and its a BIG IF we have them , they will be just like Saddam Hussain’s “ elections” , the kind of elections that happen in 3rd world dictatorships. We saw a preview with the black panthers+ ACORN in 2008.I have this concern as well. Hang on to what you want to keep cause its gonna be a rough ride.

President Obama on Tuesday said he cannot guarantee that retirees will receive their Social Security checks August 3 if Democrats and Republicans in Washington do not reach an agreement on reducing the deficit in the coming weeks
The reason why he can’t guarantee it is because, per the Constitution, the President decides how to spend the money Congress gives him. He’s just not sure who is going to get the money that comes in everyday. He’ll likely give it to Unions and banks instead of retirees.

On another note, I’ve noticed that Centerpoint installed a smart meter(at my expense no less) at my place of business in January of this year and beginning with the very next billing cycle my TDU delivery charges have tripled or quadrupled(compared to each month in 2010) each month since then. Nothing changed here as we have been at this location for 15 years. If anything, our energy charges should have declined as we replaced an old a/c unit with a new high efficiency model.
Sounds suspiciously like the “smart meter” program is a ruse to jack up the TDU delivery charge which is a “pass thru” charge not limited by whatever deal you have with your retail provider.
The more I learn about this scam the madder I’m getting.
They installed a smart meter at my house recently also and I just got the highest electric bill I’ve ever gotten there too. I’m going to look into that scam too.
This is starting to smell a whole lot like smokin’ fresh bull shiite.

A new book by New York Times reporter Janny Scott sheds new light on the life of Barack Obama’s mother, Ann Dunham, including her final years. Scott found while assembling information for “A Singular Woman: The Untold Story of Barack Obama’s Mother,” that Dunham in fact did have health coverage for her ovarian cancer, based off Dunham’s own past correspondence. Washington Examiner’s Byron York:
“Dunham decided to stay in Jakarta, where she underwent an appendectomy. But the pain did not go away, and Dunham feared, correctly, that she was terribly ill. In January 1995 she left Indonesia to go home to Honolulu, where she was diagnosed with advanced uterine and ovarian cancer. She began a regime of surgery and chemotherapy.
That is the time during which Obama says his mother battled insurance companies to cover her illness. But Scott, who had access to Dunham’s correspondence from the time, reveals that Dunham unquestionably had health coverage. ‘Ann’s compensation for her job in Jakarta had included health insurance, which covered most of the costs of her medical treatment,’ Scott writes. ‘Once she was back in Hawaii, the hospital billed her insurance company directly, leaving Ann to pay only the deductible and any uncovered expenses, which, she said, came to several hundred dollars a month.”
Often in his 2008 campaign and throughout his push for national healthcare reform, Barack Obama retold a compelling story of his mother’s struggle against non-budging insurance companies for care in the final years of her life before the cancer over took her.
Turns Out Obama‘s Story About His Mother’s Healthcare Struggle Is Inaccurate

Good afternoon Hamsters. Recovering from the shock of actual rain here around noon. Only a tenth of an inch, but that’s a whole lot better than nada. Gotta write it out insead of using numerals–it’s bigger that way. 🙂
Am listening to Juan Willams and Stuart Varney wrestle on Sean Hannity’s show. Topic is of course the debt ceiling/no taxes/cut spending fight. Juan is losing (as he usually does) since he’s not got the economic facts right but rather is defending Obama with Obama’s always-moving ideas of facts. Guess he forgot the CBO’s comment that he can’t score a speech.
Meanwhile T. Rex Obama is stomping around the Oval Office in between holding his breath and taking a breath to say he can’t guarantee that SS checks will go out as usual come August 3. Umm, SS and the debt ceiling are not related. And anyway, isn’t there supposed to be a separate account in a lockbox for everybody on SS? So nobody can touch the $$$ in it? But Obama is gonna break into the lockbox and use the $$$ for something else? That would be a good question to throw at him.

Dumb question time. You have no choice if you get a smart meter or not? Is the smart meter being installed everywhere or is this test market time? Centerpoint is my power company too. I do not get to shop for a competing company either.

#42. Not only do you not have a choice, they will be charging YOU for the cost.
My guess is that the scam they will be operating is dividing the day into segments and jacking up the charges during “peak periods”. They had to figure out a way to separate you from more of your money and thus we have smart meters. This just needs to be added to the list of things we need to get a handle on. I’m tired of what should truly be a public utility bending me over every chance they get. I’m about ready to sic IWHarper69 on ’em. By the time she’s done with them, they’ll be purring in her ear something about how “they wish they knew how to quit her”.
Just another scam being perpetrated on the rate payer.

2. We’ve had a smart meter since last year and no change in our electricity consumption or cost. I was with TXU for a year but recently switched via powertochoose.org to a company called Trieagle with a better base rate.

2. We’ve had a smart meter since last year and no change in our electricity consumption or cost. I was with TXU for a year but recently switched via powertochoose.org to a company called Trieagle with a better base rate. -

MY BAD Centerpoint is my gas company. Entergy is my electricity provider. Does not look like they are going with smart meters anytime soon. Or does Entergy just get their electricity form Centerpoint and I still will not have a choice? This is such a mess. i thought deregulation was supposed to make things better.

My only concern about the smart electric meter is how it can be remotely controlled to interact with smart appliances. This is a subtle brownout in which if the grid is overwhelmed, a signal could be sent to cycle power off to smart refrigerators or freezers. Now as it happens, I don’t own any smart appliances anyway, but it’s a concern.

Centerpoint manages the electrical delivery system in the Houston Metro area. They own the wires, the poles, the transformers and the meters. They don’t care who you pay your electric bill to. When dereg first started, there were only 4 or 5 electric providers for my zip code, now there are dozens.
Centerpoint does sell natural gas but they don’t sell electricity.

A little more light:
http://www.puc.state.tx.us/consumer/facts/factsheets/elecfacts/smartm.pdf
Looks like we are already being charged more for electricity at different times of the day/week. We just haven’t been informed what the new “delivery” rates are yet. This is really disingenous, in that now the transmission and utility delivery entity(Centerpoint, in my case, who still owns the electricity transmission infrastructure) has been given the ability to charge more for your electricity regardless of the deal you have with your retail electricity provider. The retail provider is off the hook as these are deemed “pass thru” charges and are just passed on to you on your monthly bill.
This deal really took some corrupt mindsets to structure in a clandestine effort to raise rates to the consumer.
My question is: How many readers here were informed of the facts of this arrangement and knew that Centerpoint has been given yet another venue to enrich themselves at your expense?
I’m fuming.

I wouldn’t be surprised if he’s not a highly paid 3M mole whose primary mission is to infiltrate the Hambone community. I’m certain he’s already tagged several of us for immediate detention and full frontal lobotomy mind control therapy.
Hell, I heard he’s already adding mind control chemicals to the water up in the Belleville area. You don’t think he got that water utility job in good faith do you?

Speaking of beer, I stopped in at the local convenience store here in the barrio Sunday for a six-pack. I eyed a six-pack of Schlitz and said what the hell. Apparently Pabst has reformulated it with the “classic 1960s formula”. Not having been a beer drinker in the ’60s I figured I’d try it. It wasn’t bad.

The wife bought a six pack of Lone Star last weekend. Wasn’t as bad as I remembered it. My Dad used to say ‘If you’re down to Shlitz, you’re out of beer.’ Pearl is still around in cans. Both are brewed as names in other breweries. Pity both of the original breweries are closed. Viva Shiner!

Remember the button vendor that got beat up at a Tea Party rally by SEIU members?
Although weakened from the beating, Gladney, a cancer survivor, attended the protest against SEIU violence following his attack in St. Louis.
In April 2010 the SEIU members accused of assaulting Gladney pleaded not guilty.
But as the case went to trial Monday — nearly two years after the incident — justice might not have been served for the Tea Party hero. CBS reports the two SEIU members charged with the crime were found “not guilty”:
A Clayton jury acquits two union members of assault in an August 2009 brawl outside a town hall forum.
During the two day trial Kenneth Gladeny testified that SEIU member Elston McCowan through the first punch, and then another union member Perry Molens jumped in.
But the defense told the jury that Gladney threw the first blow and that video taken of the fight shows only the end of it, not the beginning.
Grrrrrrrr. 😡

Well, here comes el foldo. Mitch McConnel now wants to abdicate all responsibility and just grant unlimited debt ceiling increase authority to the President, subject of course to offsetting spending cuts, also determined by the President. Wow, give him the keys to the vault and act surprised when even more money disappears. Where’s the logic to that? Why would he even care to be reelected if he already got all the money there is to get?
Just say no – stop it here and now.
