Great impersonators:
The Indonesian Mimic Octopus
The Lyre Bird
Mockingbird
Parrots
Cats
Another cat
And then there’s this one, pretending to be intelligent (and all the media, too!)
Which one do you think is the smartest of them all?

Good morning Hamsters. Smothering 79 at 6, no rain yet here at Richmond but it is close.
Thanks to MegletTX #39 yesterday for info on the David Lyon Family Fund. These folks lost everything on Sunday the 19th when their home burned to the ground and they escaped the wildfire with literally just the clothes they were wearing.
Please keep us in the loop, Meglet. God bless these good folk and all who have been harmed by the wildfires. Please keep the rains coming, Lord. Thank you.

Well the bloom is off the rose; Obama Gets 30% of Americans Certain to Support Re-Election in Economy Poll.
Only 30 percent of respondents said they are certain to vote for the president and 36 percent said they definitely won’t. Among likely independent voters, only 23 percent said they will back his re-election, while 36 percent said they definitely will look for another candidate.
“As far as the economy goes, I don’t see that he has delivered on the change that he promised,” said Sharon Ortiz, a 38-year-old independent voter from Hampton, Virginia, who supported Obama in 2008. “The jobs that he promised — I haven’t seen it.”

This kind of behavior really strengthens my trust in the Federal Govt. –WISSIN NOT!!
Federal authorities responsible for granting security clearances to government employees and contractors are spending hundreds of thousands of dollars investigating the investigators.
Government inspectors say they have undertaken a broader campaign in recent years to root out fraud in background checks as more national security clearances are being sought than ever before.
Overall, court records reviewed by The Washington Times show at least 170 confirmed falsifications of interviews or record checks and more than 1,000 others that couldn’t be verified. The background investigators, whose work helps determine who gets top-secret security clearance, were submitting forms saying they conducted interviews or verified official documents when they never did.
Gee, dya think that some of those “investigators” got paid to falsify the report? Dya think that some “moles” got placed in the govt? Looks like Joe McCarthy was right all along doesn’t it?

How did we get down to $2 trillion in spending cuts as the starting point in negotiations? What happened to $6 trillion?
The debt reduction talks led by Vice President Joe Biden are in what insiders call “a make or break week,” as negotiators try to find $2 trillion or more in spending cuts as part of a deal to increase the debt ceiling.

So the Feds decide to raid a server and knock several sites off line because they are wissin clods.
The F.B.I. seized Web servers in a raid on a data center early Tuesday, causing several Web sites, including those run by the New York publisher Curbed Network, to go offline.
This article was published in the New York wissin Times for crying out loud. If the current admin is so bad that the NYT decides to start printing some real news they are in some deep caca.
from the comments section:Stop the whining. My biz runs on shared servers and I know where the backups are. Anyone on shared hosting is certainly aware that they can lose service without warning.
Let’s just hope that the FBI finds one hacker, one spammer or one virus maker out of this little raid. And forget the show trial in the big apple, if you find them – do the world a favor and send out the drone to put a bunker buster down the guys chimney. I hate cyber pirates and think killing them is way more helpful to the US economy than killing Libyan civillians.
Just my 2 cents. It is kind of hard to argue with that kind of bullet proof logic isn’t it? While I do not condone gov’t killing squads sans trial, I really do believe that those who create and release malicious computer code “into the wild” need to be punished very severely in order to deter similar behavior in others.

#13,
Even worse, my understanding is that the cuts ($2T, $4T, $6T or whatever) being debated would be over the next decade. So we’ll just abuse the ole credit card for a little longer with the promise that we’ll behave better in the next ten years. It’s beyond absurd.

Further to my #12 above, if they find that ONE of the fraudulently approved/cleared people engaged in ANY KIND OF ESPIONAGE then the one who fraudulently cleared that person needs to be charged with treason. Treason is the proper charge as the fraud gives direct aid and/or comfort to our enemies and we are at war, therefore treason is most appropriate.
Now if we would ever get around to charging Hanoi Jane Fonda with treason. . . . . . ./cue crickets chirping. -

Even optimistically assuming they agree to $4T in cuts over the next ten years, that works out to $400B per year. Counting off-balance sheet stuff we’re more like $100T in the hole RIGHT NOW. Apparently arithmetic is not required to be an employee of the federal govt.

#15 Dooooood: You are correct sir that the current discussion is beyond absurd. How about cutting ALL WISSIN FED SPENDING back to 2007 budget year levels just for starters?? At that point the deficit was only around 350 bil if I remember correctly. We should start there and make further cuts from that point. The idea of ramping up spending to QUADRUPLE THE DEFICIT and then crowing about how much you are cutting from there is ludicrous!!
It is way past time to get back to only spending what the C specifically authorizes the Feds to spend. -

Just in case you missed this one:
Wal-Mart v. Dukes was not the only important Supreme Court decision issued today. The Court also handed down it’s decision in American Electric Power v. Connecticut, in which the Court unanimously rejected state efforts to sue power companies for contributing to the “public nuisance” of global warming. This is a significant holding, and a setback for environmentalist plaintiffs and activist state AGs, though some climate suits may continue.

We’ve been getting a slow and steady soak this morning – but our ditches aren’t full! Heck, the cracks in my back yard haven’t closed appreciably yet. I am hearing a collective sigh from all the green (and brown) things in my backyard, though.

Those D’s are such fine and upstanding people.
With his wife still under house arrest until August, U.S. Rep. John F. Tierney will be going stag to Friday night’s major Women Taking the Lead for Tierney fund-raiser, spokesmen for the couple confirmed yesterday.
/snip
Patrice Tierney, 60, pleaded guilty in January to aiding and abetting the filing of false tax returns by her brother, Robert Eremian, a fugitive from federal charges of racketeering, illegal gambling, money laundering and witness tampering.
/snip
The scandal hasn’t scared deep-pocketed donors away from her husband, who has held his office since 1997. Judson Reis, president of Gorton’s Seafoods, Endicott College president Richard Wylie and historic Hawthorne Hotel owner Michael J. Harrington all contributed in recent months, according to Federal Election Commission records. -

3 inches of rain and still coming should look after the fire. Now TW can move all that stuff back in so the house is tidy when I get home. Then she can make me a sandwich and get me a beer.

Yea for the Texanadians. Hope the rain lasts all day and most of the night.
Pleasantly cool 71 and still raining here in Richmond, slow and steady since just before 8. Another rumble of thunder might mean more good things coming. So far 1.5″ in the plastic rain gauge. Please don’t stop soon. Won’t have to add anything to the fountain today as Ma Nature is doing that almost to overflowing. About another inch and it’s overboard. Thank you, Lord.

Pyro: The arrogant hypocrisy is beyond stunning isn’t it? Hubris doesn’t even come close to describing it. In fact, it is so over the top AND THE FACT THAT IT IS NOT ROUNDLY BLASTED BY THE MEDIA, makes me believe that it is demonic in nature. Kind of like the crapola that was pulled in Germany just prior and during WWII.

This cop really dropped a terd in the butter churn. While his speech was calm, his actions were deplorable. If he would have merely said please back up, there would have been no problem, the fact that he “asked” her to go into her house is crossing the line and crapping on it in the process. That he chose to arrest her for not complying with his illegal “order” is way over the line. That particular cop needs to find another line of work and the other ones on scene need to be severely reprimanded.

Thanks so much to those of you who have taken an interest in my friends!!! My long time friend I just spent a lovely weekend with in Michigan, the lovely Aaress of DuoParadigms is helping them out with the coordination efforts in a beautiful display of God’s love and neighborly kindness as help is pouring in from literally around the world. This family SO deserves it!! They’ve got a Facebook page for those of you who are on there to keep updates posted. I know they have immediate needs taken care of (a temporary home, clothing and toiletries) but there are efforts being made to put together funds and tools to rebuild their home. I’m personally hoping that we’re going to be able to give them even better than what they lost, kind of Extreme Makeover sans the cameras and Ty Pennington. 🙂 I know that we have a couple of builders at my church who are lending their expertise but if you’ve got any gifts in that department or equipment you can loan out it would be wonderful I know. They’ve got a list here of what all they need and how to donate or get into contact with the right people. They had no insurance as the last few years have been tough financially so they’ve got nothing (materially) now. Their oldest boy Jonny is a Marine (I think he’s maybe just in the reserves right now) so I feel like this is also about taking care of our men in uniform.
Just a side note, they had gone to church which is quite a drive for them and took their two little cars and left the 15 passenger van at home…so that is gone. I know we’ve been getting along without ours for awhile now but that was sad. They had some pets (I think a dog or two) that we are hoping escaped somewhere and I think a friend in the area has been checking animal shelters to see if they’ve turned up. If you can’t do anything physically please keep praying for them!! This is going to be a long tough road to come back from.

Is there anyone in this world for whom this admission comes as a surprise? If so, please speak up so I can make it a point to avoid you.

David Mamet – the well know writer/director has recently released a book documenting his “conversion” path from liberalism to conservatism. The book is causing waves throughout the entertainment community as are his numerous interviews where he assails the stupidity of liberalism with unabashed ferocity.
One of his phrases that I recently read seems particularly appropriate:
“You need two things for a nanny-state: You need nannies, and you need infants.”
There is a short article here about him that is worth the read.

GJT, think Andy Griffith on his “What is was was Football” record from the 50’s, one of his stories was two “Two Silhouettes on the shade” where the boy sees the silhoutte of a gal on the window shade and since he has the “Bound To’s” he gathers up his courage and goes and knocks on her door. I googled it with no luck.

I think my family are done with our email discussion on the Constitution. What started it was CNN’s Fareed Zakaria ask in a blog post: Is it time to update the U.S. Constitution? To which I replied:The Constitution is indeed an awe-inspiring document guarding the natural freedoms each person is born with. It was designed to ensure the citizens of the United States enjoy natural freedoms of “life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness”. Its function is to guarantee that the federal government will not infringe on certain explicit rights and allows the people through elected representation to create laws to govern themselves and society at large. The US Constitution takes on a federalist nature in that it gives specific powers to the federal government and by default all other powers lay with the individual states. Any attempt to nationalize state power will inherently jeopardize federalism and thus the Constitution itself. Movement to eliminate the electoral college is a perfect example of such a jeopardy coming to fruition. The best way to guarantee individual liberty is to limit the power of one central government and divide that power among other governments. That’s precisely what federalism does. The true voice of the people is found in state sovereignty, not in the federalization of elections. In fact, big central government and individual freedom cannot coexist and the human experience has taught us that. By their very nature, individual freedom and strong central governments will naturally shove the other out of its way.
Another nature of the US Constitution is that it creates a Republic; not a Democracy. While our republic is democratic in nature the US Constitution avoids forms of direct democracy. Direct democracy is naturally mob rule where the most powerful will always rule over the less powerful. Talk about the inefficiencies of the US Constitution because it is not democratic is actually a compliment to the profound wisdom our Founding Fathers had within them. Democracies plunge nations into chaos and even rebellion. Throughout this nation’s 200+ history, there really was only one rebellion which threatened to tear the fabric of unity and national order which a federal government is necessary to maintain. That’s really not bad considering the wars and rebellions around the world. In a Republic, elected representatives are chosen to carry out the will of the people. The closer to an individual that representative is, the more representative that individual becomes in government. That, again, attests to the wisdom of state sovereignty. It also attests for the need to be involved in local elections from city council to the local school board.
No need to change nature of the Constitution. Doing so could very well kill such an inspiring document. All along arguing for federalism and localizing political power I had the post Texpat made some time ago about the egg cracking society. I eventually decided to share my response woth family and get their input and the egg cracking video would be perfect to share. Goes to show our words can and do influence others and I never forgot about Texpat’s post, just the specific name of it. So a big thanks for mharper who helped be dig out the content of that post.
We’re going to leave Friday to Florida for a family reunion. We’re excited but have been busy in preparing for it. -
The death of private property rights continues. This totally pisses me off. I mean absolutely livid pissed off.

Needless to say the added emphasis is mine.Senate Bill 321 prohibits employers (who bought the land with THEIR money, who built the business on THEIR land with THEIR money, are now restricted from governing THEIR parking lot for THEIR bsiness that they spent THEIR money for as they freaking see fit) from adopting and enforcing policies against employees who safely and legally store a firearm in their locked vehicle while on an employer’s parking lot. This includes concealed handgun licensees who carry their firearm during their commute to and from work for personal protection, sportsmen who hunt before or after work and competitive and recreational shooters who stop at the local shooting range before heading home for the day.

I’ve been working late tonight and finally got a chance to get caught up on the Couch events of the day. Sounds like everyone is in good shape tonight, possibly excepting Super Dave who dashed out w/o explaining his “bound to” problem. Texanadian and his trophy wife should have a wonderful reunion after all the danger and uncertainty, and have fun with your sammiches and showers. 🙂
Me, I got 0.9″ today (rain) and glad for it.
