Curious as to how the wild ride ended. Was betting on a whimper. Ahem, back to business.
Good morning Hamsters. A bit more humid and 72 at 6, with a beautiful pink/golden glow between the trees to the NE at 6:30. Soon enough the beauty will become white hot and menacing to the dry land below. No rain in sight. The nocturnal critters are heading for bed; the daytime crowd is stirring. The unfeathered bipeds prepare for another scorcher.
Did not watch the debate last night as the venue of CNN seemed likely to be rife with posturing by the moderator to be the star of the show and interested in Gotcha questions.
Reading comments on another blog last night confirmed suspicions. But Michele Bachman did announce her candidacy, so all was not lost. -

Dee and I will be going to see daughter Reesa in New York this weekend. She’s producing and directing “Henry V” for Shakespeare in the Park. She’s coming along pretty good for a newbie in NY. (She’s got a gazillion credit here in Houston, as well as a BA in Drama and an MA in Shakespeare).
In July she’s off to jolly old England again to teach a summer course at Cambridge to English students wanting to come to an American school. (She’s a Master Tutor for Princeton Review, also).
O.K., ’nuff bragging, I’ll go back to my ole f@rt usual self.

The top level of the 2,200-seat concert hall at the Adrienne Arsht Center for Performing Arts was entirely empty, as were the seats along the side of the second and third levels.
“The expectation was 900,” a Democratic official said, and more than 980 tickets were sold.
Tickets for the Gen 44 event started at $44, the official said.
“This is going to be a very tough fight,” said Alonzo Mourning, the former Miami Heat player, who spoke ahead of the president. Once Obama took the stage, a protester interrupted him at one point, repeatedly yelling: “Keep your promise, stop AIDS now.” But the protester was quickly drowned out by the audience chanting, “Obama, Obama, Obama.”

Oh, and speaking of the Dem’s “shifting” to right.
Leon Panetta said he thinks Iraq will request U.S. troops to remain indefinitely despite the pullout deadline.
He said there are a thousand al-Qaeda terrorists n Iraq. It’s okay for him to sing Dick Cheney’s song as long as he pays royalties for use of the music.

An elderly man approached a woman sitting in the sunroom of a retirement
home. He says to her,
“For five dollars, I’ll have sex with you on that rocking chair over there.
For ten dollars, I’ll have sex with you on that couch.
But for twenty dollars, I’ll take you to my room, light a few candles and give you a romantic evening of passion you’ll never forget.”She digs through her purse and hands him a twenty dollar bill.
“So, you want the romantic night in my room, eh?”
“No, I want four times in the rocker.”

Perhaps the tide is turning in the cancer fight:
I’ve been saying for years that the current chemo regimen for cancer is 99% ineffective(the industry’s own admission, not mine) and flies in the face of common sense – how can a body with a destroyed immune system expect to fight off anything. The chemo gig is really all about money. Big money. A way to extract one hundred grand or more from you or your insurance carrier before you die – effectively destroying your quality of life and perhaps extending your life a few days or weeks.
Now, after the abject failure of the “war on cancer”(with the exception of a few cancers), the medical establishment is embracing the immune system – I believe it is a result of more and more patients refusing the treatment and the extremely poor track record.
The key sentences in the article:
“If we are ever going to use the word ‘cure’, the immune system is going to have to come into play.”
“Why would cancer try to avoid the immune system if the immune system didn’t have the potential to reject the cancer, asks one researcher.”

Was it Dateline Sunday that did the report on the scientific group that built and brought to life a brand new bacteria? This was 100% artificial from the cell structure to the DNA. It’s alive and reproducing. Having complete control over the life process may sound demonic to some, but can you imagine being able to make antibodies that “will shoot a rifle” at a disease, rather than “shotgunning” and hoping it works?
I also realize the bad that can come out of a knowledge that powerful, but if it’s kept in private hands and not allowed to get into the politi-military complex, we should survive.

Bad news for Facebook. I’ve never been a big Fbooker, I only got an account to keep in touch with Lovely while at school. I have friend requests sitting idle. I just don’t have the urge to “friend” everyone in the universe, nor to share every thought with the entire world. Somehow, what I had for dinner or the fact that a friend dropped by just doesn’t seem important enough to announce to the public.

I’m not too big on Facebook either, but at the same time, I think the privacy concerns are greatly overstated. If you use it wisely (hint: don’t use “apps”) then you’ll likely have very little trouble. It’s been a good way for me to catch up with people I knew from back home who I otherwise would probably never hear from.

Whew! after a ride like that who needs coffee? I would be willing to wager that dude is under 30, prolly under 25 as his reaction time is so lightning fast. If he keeps up this kind of nonsense he will not see 35 but he will have a darned good time not getting there.

Yup. It’s a very efficient way for me to maintain contact with a whole bunch of family I wouldn’t otherwise have time to contact. I’ve reconnected with cousins I haven’t seen in 30 years.
I suspect the “fatigue” some folks are experiencing is from all those silly virtual farms, aquariums, heart-shaped boxes, etc. they try to maintain. Once I learned to block all that crap so I don’t even have to see it, FB became just another nice communication tool. Now if I can just figure out how to block the “Repost this on your wall or your pecker will fall off” messages 😉

It’s Flag Day, and ours is waving softly in the morning breeze that dances through the front porch. Chances are it will be a lonely sentinel in our subdivision; our new neighbors across the back pasture fly theirs daily. I think it would be useful to inquire if they are interested in investigating Fort Bend County Tea Party Society. It’s a good bet the Fogles of Taliid Arabians a few miles away have their fenclines adorned with many Old Glories as is usual on significant days.
Regarding the several perps listed above who have gotten their comeuppance–Time wounds all heels, and their time was up. Yea.
Congratulations to OTL and his daughter on her accomplishments. It ain’t bragging if you can do it. 😉

“I see the sadness and worry that’s creasing his face,” she said to a crowd of about 500 at the Pasadena luncheon organized by the Southern California Women For Obama. She described his worth ethic as “tireless,” according to pool reports.
“He reads every word, every memo, so he is better prepared than the people briefing him,” she said. “This man doesn’t take a day off.”
I never realized Michelle Obama has such a keen sense of humor.

Authorities discovered Neumar had been married five times since the 1950s, and each union ended with her husband’s death. Investigators in three states reopened several of the cases, but have since closed them.

I just watched the video. I would have been the one who, upon seeing this guy coming up behind me, would have opened my door.
I did it during Rita. Wissed off the Mexican truck with the frings on his visor and Mary on the dash. I’m sorry – but if I can’t use the shoulder as my own personal traffic lane, neither can you.
And yes, I have life and medical insurance. For now.

“The Muslim Brotherhood, Egypt’s most powerful Islamist party, announced on Monday that it had formed a coalition with the liberal Wafd Party for the country’s upcoming parliamentary elections. The partnership between two of Egypt’s oldest political movements, which will run on one candidate list, will be a formidable force in the elections.
“The Brotherhood formed the Freedom and Justice Party earlier this month, after long being officially banned but tolerated under the regime of former President Hosni Mubarak. The Wafd Party traces its roots to the years following World War I, when it emerged as the leading political force opposed to the British colonial presence in Egypt.
The coalition “will dictate the electoral outcome” said Freedom and Justice Party Vice President Essam el-Erian, who encouraged other political movements to join. Erian expressed hope that the partnership represents the beginning of a broad-based alliance between many of Egypt’s most prominent political parties and leaders. The new parliament will be tasked with choosing a committee that will draft Egypt’s new constitution.”I don’t know about you but despite that under the Obama administration Congress has been told hat the Muslim Brotherhood is essensitally nothng to worry about, I’m very uncomfortable in having them form Egypt’s new constitution.

Wisconsin Democrats want to recall eight Republican state senators in upcoming special election and replace them with Democrats who are more responsive to constituents. Fred Clark comes across as very, er, responsive in this audio captured by one woman who hung up on his cold call for the campaign, but whose answering machine kept he line open. As WISGOP reported, Clark wanted to respond immediately to this insult by offering to “smack around” the woman who refused to talk with him (via Jim Hoft):
Good thing Clark’s on the Democrat ticket or he’d be in media trouble.

55 Sarge,
The jarheads showed some sense by retaining the Utility Cap with the BDU, although they did make it available in all of the variations of camo.
The one I hated was the Barracks Cover with the leather brim you had to shine to a mirror like gloss. I wore it once in Boot Camp for an inspection and never afterward. Only the Military Police wore the accursed hat when they stood gate duty.

The only dumber uniform change I’ve seen in my lifetime was the Air Force’s making thier officer’s uniforms look more like naval officers.
That, and not adopting the First Pattern Jungle Fatigues as a standard. Those OG 107’s were hot and needed a lot of starch to look good.
BTW–wanna know how you can tell you’re getting old?
Its when reenactors start paying big money for reproductions of the uniform you wore.

69 Sarge,
Already there. Can’t get the OD Green Utilities anymore or the VN era camos, which we were never allowed to wear in CONUS.
I still have my camo rain hat and two of my original OD Green Utility covers. I had a full issue of “deuce” gear, but the kids lost the shelter halves and tent stakes a long time ago.
My poncho dry rotted. I loved the poncho. I carried two. One to wear and the other to sleep in. The $#@#$% shelter halves were a hassle to pack and unpack; I just took a poncho and used it as bed linen on the ground with my pack as a pillow.
Biggest mistake the Air Force ever made was abandoning their WWII era uniforms for those Blue Doorman things.

Best way to camp light is with a poncho and a poncho liner.

At the time, the Army was still wearing that uniform. They never should have stopped. Best looking uniform they ever had. Just watch the Aggie Corps pass in review and you’ll see what I mean—they’re still wearing it.

Though many may have forgotten, my chihuahua/dachshund mixed puppy is a most worthy topic to mention. We named her Chisos after the Chisos Mountains located in Big Bend National Park in Texas. Mrs. Darren was looking into that park and discovered that it is surrounded by the Chihuahuan desert. How quaint.
OK, you may all resume your less worthy topics of discussion. 🙂

I asked Rubio why he was sticking his neck out — after all, isn’t taking on Medicare the political kiss of death in Florida? Quite the opposite, Rubio says. “The flip side of that is if there is any state in the country that should be scared of Medicare going bankrupt it’s Florida. So that’s exactly why I’m involved in this issue. Because we have millions of recipients in Florida — and one of them is my mother.”
Is that a total kick-A response or what? ¡Viva Rubio!
But, he explains, “There is a reason to be worried about the future of Medicare, and it’s not because of the Ryan plan. It’s because Medicare is running out of money.” He points to the report issued last month by Medicare’s trustees which found that the Medicare trust fund will run dry in 2024 — five years earlier than they had forecast just last year. And he warns, “The truth is that if we don’t solve this problem, we’re going to lose Medicare. And history is not going to be kind to anybody up here, Republican or Democrat, if we let that happen.”
For those who criticize Ryan, Rubio asks: “If it’s not the Ryan plan, well then what plan is it? The White House has not offered one. The Senate Democrat leadership has not offered one.. . . They have not offered a budget, much less a plan to save Medicare.” The Democrats’ refusal to do so, while viciously attacking Ryan’s approach, leads Rubio to one inescapable conclusion: “The Democrats don’t have a plan because they have decided that playing politics is more important than saving Medicare.”
Prescisely. Very nice, Senator.

I had to take our office secretary to the eye doctor over lunchtime and I read the magazine Mother Jones for the first and last time. I have never read a more left slanted compilation of birdcage liner in my life. It is truly amazing the degree of deception to which the left will indulge. They railed on the conservative side claiming that the conservatives were guilty of the very practices in which it was engaging. If you are interested in just how far the left has sunk the link is here.

SAN FRANCISCO (Reuters) – A judge’s same-sex relationship is no reason to toss out his ruling backing same-sex matrimony, another federal judge ruled on Tuesday.
The decision by Chief U.S. District Judge James Ware backed the prior ruling overturning California’s gay marriage ban.
District Judge Vaughn Walker in San Francisco last year struck down California’s same-sex marriage ban, known as Proposition 8, and supporters of the ban now say his ruling was compromised and should be vacated.
The case was immediately appealed to the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals.
The case could set national policy if it reaches the Supreme Court and is being watched throughout the nation, where same-sex marriage is legal in only a handful of states.
Well, we lost that one.

Here’s a happy little piece of news: At a time when several large universities — including George Washington University here in DC — have begun to embrace not just coed, but gender-neutral housing, the Catholic University of America this year initiates a plan to convert its coed dorms into single-sex residences once again. This fall, entering CUA freshmen will be assigned to residence halls in which they won’t have to worry quite so much about meeting a member of the opposite sex in the hallway walking back from the bathroom. The following year, the change will extend to both freshman and sophomore dorms.
Well, that’s good news.
Alcohol-related accidents are the leading cause of death for young adults aged 17-24. Students who engage in binge drinking (about two in five) are 25 times more likely to do things like miss class, fall behind in school work, engage in unplanned sexual activity, and get in trouble with the law. They also cause trouble for other students, who are subjected to physical and sexual assault, suffer property damage and interrupted sleep, and end up babysitting problem drinkers.
Hooking up is getting to be as common as drinking. Sociologist W. Bradford Wilcox, who heads the National Marriage Project at the University of Virginia, says that in various studies, 40%-64% of college students report doing it. The effects are not all fun. Rates of depression reach 20% for young women who have had two or more sexual partners in the last year, almost double the rate for women who have had none. Sexually active young men do more poorly than abstainers in their academic work. And as we have always admonished our own children, sex on these terms is destructive of love and marriage. …
Christopher Kaczor at Loyola Marymount points to a surprising number of studies showing that students in co-ed dorms (41.5%) report weekly binge drinking more than twice as often as students in single-sex housing (17.6%). Similarly, students in co-ed housing are more likely (55.7%) than students in single-sex dorms (36.8%) to have had a sexual partner in the last year—and more than twice as likely to have had three or more.
Sounds about right.

Late this afternoon the Wisconsin Supreme Court in a 4-3 decision denied the suit by the Dane County DA and the injunction granted by the county judge Sumi that claimed the Budget Repair Bill’s passage had violated the Wisconsin open meetings law. The suit was deemed without merit from its inception.
The Lege, Governor Scott Walker, and the taxpayers of Wisconsin won. In a delicious separate opinion, Justice Prosser (having prevailed in the recount of the ballots cast in the recent judicial election) reviewed the separation of powers provision in the Wisconsin Constitution. badgerblogger.com

Been working. Didn’t plan on bending conduit and pulling wire at this age. I am still driving my own truck, though, and things are looking up.If it matters in the scheme of things, I’ll be damned if I will commit financial suicide and hire anybody. We few geezers can still manage what work is coming up.
