Weekend Pentecost Open Comments

This Sunday, the Church commemorates her birthday. Christianity began with the Resurrection of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. What followed was a period of fifty days where the apostles and other disciples basically hid out in fear for their lives.
Despite being with Jesus for the roughly three years of his ministry, they had their doubts about just who he really was. They had to have been the densest holy men ever to walk the face of the earth.
Jesus, being the Incarnate Word, the Son of God, knew all about their weakness and promised to one day send them an Advocate to help them. That Advocate was, of course, the Holy Spirit. On Pentecost Sunday, the Holy Spirit descended upon them and gave them the wisdom to know what to say and do, and the strength and courage to go forth around the world and spread the Gospel.

This event marks the birth of the Church. That institution has continued under the leadership of holy (some not so much) men in an unbroken line from St. Peter through Benedict XVI, all guided by the Holy Spirit.

Muslims threw rocks at Jewish worshipers praying at the Western Wall after Friday’s Muslim prayers. Police arrested three Muslim attackers. The violence occurred after security forces decided to allow Muslims under the age of 50 to participate in Friday prayers. Usually, men younger than 50 are barred from praying on the Mount if there is an intelligence assessment that riots… Read more »

Carbon emissions over the past decade actually exceeded predictions by the UN’s Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), no thanks to the global economic recession. According to their anthropogenic global-warming theories, global temperatures should have risen significantly as a result. James Taylor at Forbes wonders what happened: Global greenhouse gas emissions have risen even faster during the past decade than… Read more »

The trove of more than 13,000 emails detailing almost every aspect of Sarah Palin’s governorship of Alaska, released late on Friday, paints a picture of her as an idealistic, conscientious, humorous and humane woman slightly bemused by the world of politics. One can only assume that the Left-leaning editors who dispatched teams of reporters to remote Juneau, the Alaskan capital,… Read more »

About the apostles and “density”: I don’t think it has a darned thing to do with mental acuity, rather it has everything to do with HIM removing the scales from the eyes. Unfortunately sane people rarely have the ability to resist responding to the crazies. I know I can’t. But engaging them gives them the impression they are normal. The old story about some politician being elected unless he is found in bed with a dead girl or a live boy may be true after all. At least Charlie Rangel believes it as it relates to the good Congresscritter Weiner.
Rangel said Weiner “wasn’t going with prostitutes. He wasn’t going out with little boys.”

wagon #92; The apostles were clearly not getting the message throughout the Gospels.
