It is a little more profound than the usual ” I need a man like a fish needs legs.” Although, if the fish had legs and could climb trees, it wouldn’t feel stupid, would it? Or would we simply judge it on some other attribute? But then, if a fish had legs, would it then appreciate those appendages, or would they simply get in the way? Because if a fish had legs, it might find a “need” for them, right? Kinda like if I had wings, I’m sure I’d find a “need” for me to use them for my trip to the store or to work. But since I don’t have wings, I don’t have a “need” for them.
Just a little deep thinkin’ as you face your daily grind.

    For all his faults, I don’t think anyone can legitimately doubt Dubya’s sincerity when it comes to his faith. Slick Rick, on the other hand, just comes across as a sleazy televangelist. To me this looks like an attempt to woo Huckabee voters.

    3 – Guvnah Goodhair is definitely sleezy regardless of the following adjective! It’s frustrating to watch the uninformed comments on HotAir singing his praises as a potential POTUS candidate.

    Thank goodness Katy got a nice medium to heavy shower last night! I bet it was over a 1/4 inch – my sprinkler system gets the morning off………….

    THIS is not good at all. If PF/OBH/DUMBO had a lick of sense, he would order the navy to sink all mentioned vessels and keep their blasted mouth shut about it. A far more difficult task would be for PF and his admin to keep their mouths shut about it.

    “Iranian military submarines entered the Red Sea waters with the goal of collecting information and identifying other countries’ combat vessels,” Fars said.
    It did not specify the number or type of vessels involved but said they were sailing alongside warships of the Navy’s 14th fleet.

    A move that could anger Israel?? Are you wissin kidding me?? The sworn enemy of Israel, who almost daily calls for the annihilation of the country of Israel and all its non-moooooooslim inhabitants, send submarines into the Red Sea which could easily break off and sail up the gulf of Aqaba and bomb Eilat, and they actually question whether it may “anger” Israel??
    Please excuse me for a while, I have a huge mess to clean from the blood shooting out of my eyes.

    I was burgled twice last week, both times while I was at work. They took a night off when I stayed home, then returned when I went back to work to take all the stuff they couldn’t haul out the first time. What a mess. If you have insurance, take my advice and review your coverages for anything you may own that has some actual, determinable value. I discovered the hard way that my valuables had limited coverage ($500 limit) while all the depreciable junk such as electronics, computers, TV’s, depreciate very rapidly. Hopefully I will recoup enough from the insurance proceeds to at least pay next year’s premium, but there is still an outside chance that I could wind up owing them money when the deductibles (had to meet it twice since there were two break-ins even though it’s obviously the same characters), the exclusions, and the depreciation are figured in. What a racket.

    There are elements in Israel’s government that have been suggesting preemptive strikes against Iran….why I’ll bet if we check the hamster archives you have suggested the same thing yourself. Iran has a legitimate need to collect intelligence.

    You need to loosen your hatband a little bit. This is just a stunt by the Iranians. The Red Sea is a fairly shallow and narrow waterway when you compare it against the open ocean. It is a bad place for surface and subsurface vessels. Anybody there is in a shooting gallery and in this case the ducks have guns. It is always a good thing to have your enemy where you can see him. The same intelligence could have been gathered by a small fleet of fishing vessels; they would have been much harder to detect and cost a lot less.

When you have an enemy who has sworn your destruction and is preparing to do so, at what point do you intervene and put a stop to it and defend yourself against what is coming??

    Our nice, quiet little neighborhood is suffering a rash of burglaries, too. I received notice last week that they are going from simple robberies to aggravated home invasion. Our community is putting together a citizen patrol again.

    I hate to say it, but every one of the burglary reports indicate that neighbors from our surrounding black communities seem to be the culprits, though not enough evidence to convict anyone yet. In one case, my neighbors three doors down were kick-robbed one day. In warning our neighbors, one told me that she saw four male black teenagers, one on a bike, walking west, toward the house. Another neighbor saw three male black teenagers, on foot, walking eastward about an hour later, with Macy and other shopping type bags in hands. (I guess the bike rider took off.) Second neighbor called me the next day; she had seen these same three teenagers walking down another street. We went and got video, and I made sure to get some good facial images, but the cops said they couldn’t use the video. They had to catch them in the act. I followed these teenagers back to their neighborhood across the bayou from our community.

    The home invasion report specifically stated two black men rushed into a home as a mother, daughter, and granddaughter were returning from a day out. The mother/grandmother was pistol whipped once and the men threatened to shoot the little girl. All three were forced to lay on the floor while the robbers cleaned out the house. I can only imagine the nightmares that little girl is going to have for years to come..

    I am being a lot more careful about coming and going from my home these days.

    Sure been busy with my Grandson since school got out. We went to Galveston to tour the USS Stewart battleship escort and USS Cavalla submarine for D-Day. If all parents and grandparents would do similar little things like that, we would have a lot better society with a knowledge of REAL history in a few short years.

    We gonna have some of those dumb fish tonight.

    If I were of the belief that since Jesus will return to Earth in a time of great turmoil so if we create turmoil He will return quicker and thus usher in peace and then advocate people to cause great turmoil, would you vote for me for president? Even if I supported all your political views and that the only difference between you and I is that you think causing turmoil is evil and will not affect Jesus’ return? Specifically, should I get access to the nation’s nukes?

    I am a very lapsed Catholic and not an evangelical, however I grew up listening to “End Times sermons” on late night AM radio. My bedsprings antenna and crystal radio could only pick up three Houston Stations and one of them (KTRH-740) hosted Garner “Ted” Armstrong every night. I did not believe it then and I don’t believe it now.

    This is a tough area to navigate. I am not rejecting Christianity, but rather one small nuanced area.

    You are the first to ask! I am an Engineer, which is to say a practical Physicist. I have found that all complex systems can be broken down into simple systems. If the system does not appear simple; then you have not broken it down into the simplest state.

    Actually, it looks like he’s merely expressing an observable fact of International Law and general practice among all nations. All nations spy. Those that have submarines use them to spy.

    As long as the vessles remain in International waters or announce thier intention to dock in a foreign port, there’s not much that can be done beyond what is outlined by Internation al Law and various treaties. The last GATO Class submarine built by the US during WW2 that was sunk as a result of a combat action was a sub we gave to the Pakistanis sunk outside a harbor in India. It was spying on the Indian Navy and was discovered in an area declared off limits to any vessel. That’s what can be done if they get too close or violate recognized borders.

    I would point out to you that most of the Egyptians are Sunni not Shia. The Iranians have been active in providing financial support to the street level Palestinians and Egyptians, which has earned them some “street creds”. We do the same thing via the Peace Corps and AIA.

    I am not sure how much trouble the Iranians can stir up in that part of that part of the middleeast. To my point of view…it would be like handing out Christian Identity tracts in Skokie. The Sunni rulers in that area fear the Iranians far more than they fear Israel.

    My own belief is that the government of Iran is on the verge of a collapse. The youth of Iran and the business community are losing patience with the ruling counsel.     Good afternoon Hamsters. Have finally cooled down and dried off after most of the morning in the barn as today the farrier (horseshoer) was here. First had to brush the dust and dirt off the mares, the result of our 0.04″ rain on them yesterday and all three rolling in the dirt before they came in for the night. Then when the farrier was here it’s me who holds the lead ropes and keeps the horses entertained when necessary.

    Started out at 69 at 6 and stayed coolish with a breeze until about 8:30 and then warmed progressively. Brushing the dirt off worked up some perspiration, and once that was done the temp was rising enough to be uncomfortable. Each stall has efficient fans mounted atop the partitions at each end. They help a lot. We have a larger fan on wheels for the aisle that helps keep farrier, horse, and me reasonably comfortable in the heat. But when all is finished by about 11 or so, we are all hot. At least the breeze stayed with us today.

    Turned the mares out and went to sit at the patio table on the back porch to make the next appointment and pay the bill, then enjoy a glass of peach tea and chat with the farrier. He’s been taking care of our horses for about 20 years and has seen them through some bad times with foot problems. Began to cool down once back in the house, but when you’re dripping wet it takes a while. I had heat exhuastion about 10 years ago and have been less able to tolerate summer heat since. So I am inside for the rest of the day. We just missed rain coming up from the coast in some lovely dark clouds that pooped out just before they got here. Rats

Now the bully has a baseball bat, which he has used against some of his own gang who did not ‘toe the line’ (vicious armed goons shooting protesters in Iran) and he is coming at you swearing that he is going to bash your brains out. Now he is standing right in front of you and is drawing the bat back, are you going to wait until the bat hits you before you take action to protect yourself? Are you going to wait until the bat just starts moving at you before you act or do you blast him while you still have the chance to save yourself from severe injury or death? That is the position that Israel is in with respect to Iran and Syria and now probably Egypt. Unless you come to grips with the truth of this metaphor you will not ever come up with the correct strategy.

    I just got back from helping my sister clean some stuff out of her mother-in-law’s apartment. Fortunately, our youth group is having a garage sale this weekend, so I am taking much of the castoff items to the church. Sister appreciates that it’s going to a good cause rather then just being dumped in the dumpster. She tried to do too much today, though, and pulled her neck a few times. I told her to point and tell me “Pick that up!” but she kept jumping in and grabbing stuff. She was thinking about going again tonight, but I have a feeling that she may need to sit and rest this evening.

    There’s nothing more depressing than closing out a person’s life. The accumulation of belongings is the last physical reminder of that person, and when those items are gone, it’s like someone has taken an eraser to their chalkboard life.

    There was often much laughter and mining of rich memories when Texpat and I prepared Mom’s estate sale. Her’s was a rich Christian life, well lived.
    Example: We always knew Mom was the Basket Queen of the South but after a solid hour of baskets pouring down the attic stairs we were laughing pretty hard.

    To note that I don’t advocate sinking Iranian subs per se but if it happens **for whatever reason** I’ll support it. As far as international law is concerned, if it does not recognize Iran as an enemy combatant against the United States, then international law can go s*rew itself.

    If ever the Japanese wanted a swift and firm kick in the a$$, bombing Pearl Harbor was an excellent way to get one. Perhaps if they tried it now they’d get nothing more than drone attacks in response.

    While the terms have yet to be made public, if passed by the U.N. and ratified by our Senate, it will almost certainly force the U.S. to:

    1.Enact tougher licensing requirements, creating additional bureaucratic red tape for legal firearms ownership.

    2.Confiscate and destroy all “unauthorized” civilian firearms (exempting those owned by our government of course).

    3.Ban the trade, sale and private ownership of all semi-automatic weapons (any that have magazines even though they still operate in the same one trigger pull – one single “bang” manner as revolvers, a simple fact the ant-gun media never seem to grasp).

    4.Create an international gun registry, clearly setting the stage for full-scale gun confiscation.

    5.In short, overriding our national sovereignty, and in the process, providing license for the federal government to assert preemptive powers over state regulatory powers guaranteed by the Tenth Amendment in addition to our Second Amendment rights.

    I google mapped it. It’s just outside Daisyetta on an old farm road where they re-routed the new farm road to cut out a curve. The north side of the road is a patch of pines and brush. they must have got a tip from someone.

    Liberty County sheriff’s officials Tuesday afternoon said they found blood at a rural residence that a tipster said was the burial site of 25 to 30 dismembered bodies.

    A state law enforcement source later Tuesday afternoon told the Houston Chronicle that deputies had been directed to the site by a psychic.

    “All we know is the sheriff department received a call about a mass grave, or something like that, with several bodies,” the source said. “They went and checked it, and there was nothing there. The caller went back and said, ‘No, you went to the wrong house.’

    “They go back out and go to the house and see something dark that could have been blood, and do a persumpting test that is was human blood.”

    A neighbor said authorities were congregating at the home of Joe Bankson.

    Bankson, reached in Dallas where he was travelling with his wife, said he did not know why police might be at his home.

    Bankson and his wife are long-haul truckers who said they were en route to Georgia. They left Sunday, he said.

    They have lived at the residence for three years, he said.

    “I haven’t killed anybody,” he said. “And I have a lot of friends, but I haven’t helped anybody bury any bodies.”

    Shortly before 6 p.m., Liberty County sheriff’s spokesman Rex Evans said officers had not exhumed any bodies.

    “At this time we have not recovered any bodies,” he said. “We only received information of a possible crime scene here at this location. Upon our arrival we determined that there was a need for a search warrant. Once that warrant arrives at the scene we will further our investigation.”

    The Cleveland Advocate reported the house is near the intersection of County Roads 2048 and 2049.

    The Cleveland newspaper said authorities were told that as many as 30 bodies, possibly belonging to children, were buried at the intersection of the roads between Hull and Hardin.

    A cadaver dog has been brought to the scene to aid in the search.

    The newspaper quoted authorities as saying residents of the nearby residence — the object of the search warrant — were “uncooperative.”

    The Beaumont FBI office has been asked to assist in the investigation.

The Ayatollah did say those things about the Israelis; but it did not stop him from buying spare parts from those hated Israelis to keep his aging fleet of F4 Phantoms going during the Iran-Iraq war. Ironically, there is some video on YouTube now showing an Iranian doing an in-flight refueling. You can see another Iranian jet in the background burst into flames and crash. The video identifies the jet being refueled as something I could not recognize, but the jet look just like a F4 to me.
