It’s the weekend. Time to relax a bit and treat yourself in the manner in which you’d like to become accustomed.
Why not start with a hearty breakfast? What better choice than one of the national dishes of Canadia?
Mmmmmm….

4 of my BACA Brothers embark today on the Pork Chop Run…………….over 5500 miles / 16 states / all 3 coasts in 12 days. Please check out my Brother Popeye’s blog as he will update along the way……………here’s a brief excerpt:
Seriously if we canโt give money we will give time, because thatโs what this whole thing is about. It is about getting involved, about getting off your a$$ and on your feet and DOING SOMETHING. Spreading the word, raising money, donating time or as a good B.A.C.A. Brother of mine would say โDoing the Doโ and thatโs exactly what we are doing, putting our money, our time and our bodies where our mouths are, because it is one thing to be against child abuse in spirit, but another all together to be against it in action.
I hope that all of you who read this blog and follow this from beginning to end will come away with a sense of community, with a spark inside you to get involved in something, something larger than you. It doesnโt have to be Child Abuse, it could be anything, anything that moves you, that stirs you to action.
You know those things that make you say โThatโs not right someone should do something.โ That someone is YOU.Make a stand and Do the Do!
Respect,
Popeye. -

Good moring Hamsters. Hmm, bet that weekend OC pic above would enchant Michelle Antoinette. Behind closed doors can just imagine her diving into the real thing, cleaning that huge platter, and then preparing a Foghorn Leghorn speech on eating right. ๐
Another delightful 68 at 6 that of course fled before the Sun’s rays. Lots of ground mist pushed the humidity way up for a bit, but now it’s on the down escalator while the temp is on the up escalator, currently 86 and rising with 65% humidity and falling. The breeze roused itself at last to chase the muglies. The porch and patio plants had their drink for the day, sprinklers set on thirsty flowerbeds, and another day of watering the elephants begins. Thus far all of the flowers are hanging in there.
Enjoy the weekend y’all.

18 Bonehead,
I am one of the folks that thinks Woody’s poor old low life dad is exactly where he should be or at least until “boiling in oil” becomes a legitimate punishment in the Federal system.
Woody’s dad took his 30 pieces of silver from the Chagra brothers, who were kingpins in the border drug trade a quarter century ago. John Wood was a good and decent man; he did not shrink from doing his duty when bad guys came before him. We could use a few more like old “Maximum John”.
Your tangential slighting of his good name is tacky. Sure we get idiot judges all the time, but the vast majority of judges you never hear about because they are doing their jobs in a fair and honorable manner.

Good article here about forces acting the Lege right now—with a comment on something Establishment Republicans were warned about at the beginning of the session. They ignored it, even ballyhooed ignoring it, wearing it as a badge of honor and poking sticks in the eyes of those who gave them the warning.
No account of the 82nd Legislature is complete without accounting for the influence of the Tea Party movement. What we call the Tea Party is, of course, more a messy bunch of feelings and impulses than a political party or even an interest group (though, there are, I know, organized Tea Party groups). But however loosely aligned and undefined โitโ is, Tea Party activism in the 2010 election has morphed into a specter haunting the legislative process in Texas. Republican members are clearly spooked by the threat of primary challenges from their right emanating from the Tea Party wing of the party โ particularly if Tea Party rhetoric can be matched to resources and consulting from the more organized allied groups like Empower Texans. The threat to legislators here is very real, however hard it is to measure or predict in any specific way.
Increased participation in legislative process and politics amplifies the electoral threat posed by the Tea Party impulse. The involvement of Tea Party-affiliated groups and Empower Texans in the active opposition to Joe Strausโ re-election as speaker had a strong demonstration effect, even though Straus was easily re-elected. The anti-Straus mobilization signaled that outside groups can and will deploy Tea Party rhetoric and followers to participate in matters previously seen as the province of insiders to the process.
Of course, Establishment types said that Tea Partiers would alienate the VMG with their coarse rhetoric and affinity for Social Con issues.
But—-
Public opinion surveys illustrate the presence of the Tea Party in the collective political consciousness in the state. In the University of Texas/Texas Tribune poll, when offered the option of voting for a hypothetical Tea Party candidate, support fluctuated between 16 percent and 23 percent in five polls between February 2010 and February 2011. Of those who showed interest in the Tea Party in this context, about half were self-identified Republicans and about 45 percent were independent identifiers. Among Republican-registered voters, by February 2011 almost a third chose the Tea Party candidate in the hypothetical heats. The Tea Party label remains potent among Republican voters, as do the interest groups threatening and cajoling in the name of the Tea Party. These conditions loom ever present in the minds of legislators.
Now, they can continue to poke sticks in our eyes (difficult to do because there are so many of us, and we have no real leaders for them to co-opt or demonize—they can only do it to us individually, which has no real effect at all), and they may even have a few victories over us, but there may be a cost.
“I think the machine within the GOP will realize the ‘we the people’ within message is rising and is resonating throughout with independents, with moderates, with hard core conservatives because it’s so full of common sense,” Palin told CNN.
“And time tested truths that could put the economy back on track that heaven forbid the GOP machine strays from this message if so, the GOP is through,” the party’s former vice presidential nominee added.

#62 Sarge. Commentary on the influence of the Texas Tea Party Movement upon the Lege in the past session nails it.
As for the Special Session or Sessions (?), the message shall be reinforced that certain Pubbies better dance with who brung them and not trample on their partner’s toes/poke eyes, or at the next dance there will be a different partner…. At least one long-time Rep in the Houston area is in peril of same, if one listens at TP gatherings after the past couple of weeks’ activities in the Lege. Extreme bad form to sign someone else’s dance card while dancing with who brung ya. Enough said for now.

#73 Darren: It is pretty clear that Newsslimeweek is going to trash or ignore any reasonable contender on the R side as will most of the LSM. I can’t help but believe that a BIG WISSIN CHUNK of the population got their eyes opened after the last POTUS election promises vs results, the GOREbull warming garbage, the unrelenting appeasment of the moooooslimes and the overall shenannigans of the D’s when they were in absolute control not to mention the unbelievable arrogance of PF/OBH/DUMBO and company.
That being said, we are still in for a world of hurt for the remaining time of foul O-dom, and the price will be steep to pay off all his BS; we may not be able to recover. -

I’m hopin he’s the one who’s last name begins with a “Z”. He led the charge for spending the Rainy Day Fund, was the first to use the “I gave him my pledge, you wouldn’t want me to break my word would you?” excuse, hasn’t been helpful at all on the gun rights issues, and is in bed with the gambling crap.
He’s going to be the first one I ask “Can I see your Pledge Card” at his first public appearance after the Lege has gone home.

Well, I’ve been busy unloading about 200 Pix’s from my camera and tweaking each one with photo shop. The Boy called about 1:00 and was heading off the the “Arms Room” to use their indoor range. He was taking his 9 MM Kahr, 44 Mag Super Redhawk and his Bride’s Sig 22 Mosquito. The neat part of this trip is that his Father-in-Law was taking an Aunt from Florida who had purchased a Ruger 22 pistol to shoot her new gun. The reason that he called was because he couldn’t find any 22’s at his house. Dang dammit, I gave him two, 550 round bricks last year. I found several bricks in the gun safe but he didn’t want to drive all the way from Dickinson to Clear Lake, so he bougth a couple of 100 rounds at the gun store/range. He came by after they shot and said that they had a great time and he said he was a big hit with his 44, his lovely Bride shot his 9 MM about 50 times and really liked it. I gave him two 550 round boxes of 22’s and he gave the empty box of 44 brass, sadly I don’t have the 100 rounds of 44 brass that have been cleaned loaded yet. I have about 900 rounds that I need to load and have the bullets/powder/primers just don’t have the time. He said that they charged $10 per person per hour, no limt on the number of guns! DAYAAM, you can’t beat that! I’ll be there next week. ๐
PSST, don’t tell anyone but my Daughter-in-Law’s birthday is in the next couple of weeks and I’m getting her a two hour firearms training gift certificate. ๐ -

After this upcoming Newsweek highlight, how can Romney NOT win?
Holy crap that is an insulting picture. I was looking for Marie (as in Osmond) in the background or something. I do not care for Mitt but that picture is just not right.

You’re absolutely right that the leftist media will go all out against potential contenders of O. We’re very blessed to have the “new media” to point out the left’s flaws…which are many and nothing few in between.
Squawk;
Marie Osmond is at least something pretty to look at. That Mormon picture though? Sheesh!
UPDATE:LOL. The photo makes, “puke…in my mouth”.

Darren that is NOT a “Mormon” picture. That is blatant insulting and if it had been a person of color it would be called a racial slur.

What kind of father are you?
I’d be the kind of
fatherdaddy that bought the Boy a 20 Ga Remington Pump with the short “youth stock” when he was 11, this would be the Christmas after we went to a 400 acre ranch outside of Lampasas and he broke 2 out of about 12 clays with a 410 double that didn’t fit him at all, way too long. The day after Christmas we went to the Clear Creek Gun range and he busted 9 out of 12 birds! I was floored, but I noticed that if he got them when they were 10 feet out of the trap he would hit them every time, and if he waited until they got in front of him he missed. I figgered that he didn’t know how to lead them and that the stupid video games that he had played gave him eyeโhand coordination like you wouldn’t believe. He also could shoot a 44 Magnum single action Blackhawk better than most of the men on our deer lease when he was 12. He hit 4 out of 6 cans one day @ 25 feet and beat the old dude with his 45 LC by 2 cans. ๐ -

Anyone get any rain this evening? We had a brief hard blast, I expect might be 0.1″ in the gauge in the morning — unless it evaporates overnight.

That is blatant insulting and if it had been a person of color it would be called a racial slur.
Or anti-semitic if the person were Jewish.

My #89 was a good segway for this post. All bold emphasis are mine.
Todayโs blog is a tribute to Glenn Beck, whose recent programs on Israel, anti-Semitism, and Jew-hatred of an Islamic strain have been unique in television fare, and in which Beck has been serious, passionate, and committed in his desire to defend Israel and to let Americans know why they should join him in this cause.
I have been critical of Glenn Beck many times in the past โ I disagree with his penchant for accepting old John Birch Society figuresโ views of our American past, particularly those of the late W. Cleon Skousen. As an autodidact, one of his problems is teaching as he learns something, and speaking out on a subject before he fully knows different interpretations and before he has had a chance to evaluate a subject thoroughly. I am especially critical of his brief discussion a year or so back on the topic of the 1950s in America and McCarthyism, and his reliance on the views of M. Stanton Evans. I and others have seriously dissected Evans in other venues.
Exactomundo. That’s been my number one criticism of Beck. He’s too quick to support something or someone before researching the person or topic thorooughly enough to fully understand that something or someone. I said as much most recently to Dana Millibank (sp?) of the Washington Post who accused Beck of supporting anti-semitism. While there are legitimate criticisms of Beck, he is NOT anti-semitic.
Yes, Beck is not an intellectual or an historian. But he thinks deeply and seriously about these issues, and urges regular Americans to study and learn, in this case, about the roots of anti-Semitism, the growth of Jew-hatred in our own time, and the reasons to defend and to cherish the state of Israel. No one else in the media has done as much to let Americans know about Islamist Jew-hatred and how it is being played out today. He shows his viewers videos from MEMRIโs own website that the major networks would never think of letting their viewers see.
I again fully agree with Radosh. Like other topics, Beck has brought to light the topic of defending Israel more than any other in the media. What a time to NOT have TV.

Two of my children have expressed concern about a cockroach in the upstairs tub. It is I, the Dad, who must go kill it. So excuse me while I go save the day (and get crumbs for the kid’s sandwiches tomorrow).

We got thunder and a strong downfall that lasted a few minutes. That rain was needed but we need more.
The chihuaha was scared to go outside during the rain. See what happens when mammals don’t eat cockroaches. ๐

Surely it’s time for climate-change deniers to have their opinions forcibly tattooed on their bodies.
Not necessarily on the forehead; I’m a reasonable man. Just something along their arm or across their chest so their grandchildren could say, ”Really? You were one of the ones who tried to stop the world doing something? And why exactly was that, granddad?”
On second thoughts, maybe the tattooing along the arm is a bit Nazi-creepy. So how about they are forced to buy property on low-lying islands, the sort of property that will become worthless with a few more centimetres of ocean rise, so they are bankrupted by their own bloody-mindedness? Or what about their signed agreement to stand, in the year 2040, lashed to a pole at a certain point in the shallows off Manly? If they are right and the world is cooling – ”climate change stopped in the year 1998” is one of their more boneheaded beliefs – their mouths will be above water. If not โฆ
OK, maybe the desire to see the painful, thrashing death of one’s opponents is not ideal. But, my God, these people are frustrating. You just know that in 20 years’ time, when the costs of our inaction are clear, the climate deniers will become climate-denial-deniers. ”Who me? Oh, no, I always believed in it. Yes, it’s hard to understand why people back then were so daft. It’s so much more costly to stop it now.”
That’s why the tattoo has its appeal.
Thank the Maker we have the Second Amendment.

Mrs. Darren just put in Unbreakable with Bruce Willis for the two older kids to watch with her. I love that movie but Oldest Daughter doesn’t and now wants to use the computer to Netflix something. So I guess I’ll be signing off.
Be good.

With great anticipation we watched a big red/yellow radar blob head our way from Houston into Fort Bend County about 6:15 pm, surely coming SW and near or right over us. Nope. It did a sharp north turn and rained on Katy. All we got were a few drops after some misty drops, then enough to make a puny drizzle from the downspouts. Plenty of donner und blitzen nearby, of course, doing nothing helpful. ๐
