In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.
We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie,
In Flanders fields.
Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.
The Flanders Fields cemetery is actually one of the smallest, if not the smallest of the US cemeteries in Europe. It is the final resting place of 368 of our fallen soldiers from WWI. It wasn’t always so peaceful and beautiful.
Other European cemeteries are much larger. The Meuse-Argonne cemetery is the final resting place for over 14,000 of our fallen soldiers. It also holds memorial tablets listing almost 1,000 whose remains were never identified.
This area was once desolate as well.
If you ever have a chance to visit one of these memorials, you should make every effort to do so. These men and women died so that you could enjoy the freedom we should all cherish more than we likely do.
Memorial Day Weekend Open Comments
by
Tuesday thread is open. Kinda.
Alex Leary’s latest piece in the St. Petersburg Times’ on Senator Marco Rubio (“Tea Party wants to U.S Senator Marco Rubio to step into contentious immigration debate”) can best be described as yet another establishment media attempt to cause friction and/or division between the Tea Party and its preferred candidates before a real controversy has actually occurred. The piece calls… Read more »
Well, we passed the 100 comments mark this weekend, so is there a prize? Good luck Tedtam on getting Handsome Son’s computer straightened/cussed out. May this be an MLE (Meaningful Learning Experience) for HS regarding knowing where to find things in his lair/bedroom without calling in the bloodhounds. MLEs for the young’uns tend to stay locked in for a lifetime… Read more »
Okay Tedtam
Prayin for you too.
G’night
Saying prayer for your geek. Arrrggghhh
Thanks, Squawk, but I can’t even get to a point where I can start the process.
…and I strike out again. /sigh
Be patient sometimes it takes a while to boot even in safe mode when ya got problems.
WELL CRUMB!!!!!!!
Tedtam
THIS IS THE BEST SPYWARE REMOVAL GUIDE IN THE WORLD
Follow it verbatim except sending logs and you will wipe all your troubles away. I have cleaned countless computers following this system. It takes time, do not buy anything all is shareware/freeware/
…and one more dark screen. I shall try the disc this time.
Tedtam
Whoohoo now go digging and find the bad guys.
Hey wait. Is the comp-uter you are using now a Vista? You can make a recovery disc from it.
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Create-a-system-repair-disc
Well – Handsome just found his disc, and wouldn’t you know I got a prompt for safe mode?
Well crumb Tedtam. Sorry I could not be of more help. Do you want some slow torture suggestions? 😉 I am thinking what ya got going on is prolly some spyware trying to boot up w/ everything else. This will cause the computer to overload and cause errors like you saw before. SOMETIMES if you turn it on and just… Read more »
#101 – HARUMPH

Sometimes, all you can do is throw your hands up in the air and keep the door closed. Otherwise, I’d spend half my day harping at him to clean it up, and the other half being frustrated.
He may have to. Hopefully our computer help will call me tomorrow and it won’t take long to fix.
Mom? 😯
Tedtam #104;
Can the local library’s computers help for the time being?
Squawk #95&101;
So Katfish comes cheap and he’s easily forgetable. I see how you are. 😉
I can burn a CD on my computer to use on his. Or I can put it on USB. As far as finding the boot or restore discs – I laugh! I laugh, I say! My son’s bedroom is not just a post-hurricane zone, it may qualify as a health hazard. Finding anything in his room is an exercise in… Read more »
Oh crap your other box will need a floppy drive too.
Well dang it Tedtam. Does that thing have a floppy drive? If so do you have some discs? If so I will point you to a place to make a boot disc.
Do you have the restore discs for that box? I can walk you though booting to safe mode via restore discs.
Well, I found DVD in the drive, removed it, and went through the sequence. Twice without trying to F8, in case the DVD was the problem. Then with the F8 button pressing – all that happened was I burned a few calories pressing the button. I log in to his user ID, and then I’m staring at a black screen.… Read more »
Make sure there are no discs in the cd drive or floppy drive if you have one.
Go back to F2 put the hardrive 1st in the boot options. Turn the puter off. When you turn it back on continue to tap f8 till it either goes to safe mode screen or dies.
I can F2 into computer settings – I changed the bootup sequence to put the hard drive last, given the current situation. That’s about all I can do. I was hoping to get to a safe mode option, but no luck.
Can you get to safe mode?
We can’t afford a new computer right now, but I don’t know how much the repairs will cost. I have a friend who’s son makes a living doing this stuff. I hope to hear from him soon. Handsome needs this computer to do his homework – and the ACT test is next week. I’ve been searching the ‘net for a… Read more »

From what I just read Toaster Launcher has to do with Dell DataSafe backup. I could not find a fix. That has nothing to do with launching the interface but can interfere.
I got a message: “Toaster Launcher has stopped working. An error caused a problem…” I’m assuming this launches the Windows interface?

Beside freight brokers are a dime a dozen. 😉
Tedtam #90 Simple makes good points all. Can you get to Safe Mode? That will tell you how much it is worth fooling with. If not, I would suggest if you have a Vista Restore disc try reinstalling the operating system. I am not being a smart arse here but Windows boxes are so cheap now-says I would chuck that… Read more »
I, being barely able to manage the absolute basics of computer use, have been aware that Vista is the creation of the debbil and to be avoided at all costs. About a year ago friends ordered a new pc from Dell and specified Windows-XP–or else they’d shop elsewhere. Dell supplied XP. Guess they discovered the consumers were consumed with great… Read more »
88 Darren Probably not much. The value of any currency or commodity is largely based upon some combination of perception and faith. I don’t see a whole heck of a lot of difference between bank notes, Currency, or gold. It all gets down to what can it be used for? If the world went to heck in an handbasket; then… Read more »
Ahhhh, what a blessing hot showers are!
90, 1. Buy an iMac, although viruses on Apple systems are starting to become more numerous with the popularity of iPhone and iPad. CNet just ran a series of articles about malware on Mac OS 10.4 that comes disguised as free downloadable anti-virus software. (laughing so hard at the idea of folks thinking they can get something for nothing) 2.… Read more »

If we did bidness together I do not remember.
TT #92;
I just cleaned the vaccum. I had to remove the hose and whack it on the floor several times to remove the buildup. I got about 11 fur balls out of it before clearing the hose. Now I’m sniffling and was wheezing for a bit.
I personally like breathing freely.
Squawk;
I was wondering if Katfish ever dealt with you directly. 🙂
It’s amazing how much we take breathing for granted until it becomes a problem…
AAAARRRRRRGGGGHHHHH!
Hey, that’s not just for the kids!
Okay, geekheads, I gotta problem. Handsome Son’s computer isn’t working. He’s running Vista. He gets a logon screen, and when I enter his password, it processes it and then returns a dark screen. The cursor still works, so the system isn’t totally locked up, it’s just an arrow on a black background. Nuttin’ happens. I’ve talked to him about virus… Read more »

Yeah that number cannot vary wildly when dealing with us obstinate operators no? 😉
Now, however, Utah has passed a law intended to encourage residents to use gold [GCCV1 1539.10 2.80 (+0.18%) ] or silver [XAG Unavailable () ] coins made by the Mint as cash, but with their value based on the weight of the precious metals in them, not the face value – if, that is, they can find a merchant willing… Read more »

Very cool. Keep ’em truckin’.
On this day, Walter Russel Mead asks us to honor our war dead from Iraq by recognizing and understanding the Victory they achieved. Take tthe time to read the artricle the whole way through. This guy is the definition of a heartless “wiss”-hole! #79 WB How do the ones on the bottom breathe during these communal cat naps? Cats don’t need to breathe they’re unholy evil zombies. I needed that chuckle!
