Today is Holy Saturday, a day of prayer and preparation in the Catholic Church. There will be people praying in Adoration vigil while others help prepare the Church for the holiest day of the year. There will be no mass, no liturgy, but there will be flowers to arrange, banners to hang, linens to change, and then there’s the preparations for the fire to be lit outside from which the Paschal candle will be lit.
Catechumens preparing to enter the Church will be making their professions of faith and practicing for the sacraments of baptism and communion. Those of us who are decorating the church will have to work around them, which we do gratefully and as gracefully as possible. I hear that we have a large group this year, thanks be to God!
Now that the kids are grown, I don’t do the whole Easter basket thing, so Easter will be primarily spiritual. While I miss the magic of childhood, it’s nice to go to bed early and not deal with the hassle. Of course, when my kids were kids, it wasn’t a hassle. It was a delight to do it and see their faces in the morning. The Easter Bunny used to hide the eggs around the house, which the children would have to find when they woke up. Then I would dress Lovely Daughter in her lovely dress and socks with lace on them, and Handsome Son would be put into his Easter best and we’d attend Mass together.
So I wish all of you the magic and wonderment and childlike amazement at the blessings and gifts of this holy season. Take some time to peer into the empty tomb and marvel at the gifts with which we have been blessed, and thank God for his marvelous gift of salvation and love. These are gifts not selfishly held only for a chosen few, but are available for all who open themselves to His grace.
He is risen!

I hope everyone has a nice Easter weekend with whatever activities they have planned.
For myself, today is my long-delayed first mow/edge/blow in the front yard. Too many volunteer projects have eaten up my Saturdays and some of my Sundays so far this spring. As soon as I finish breakfast, I’ll suit up for some exercise and get out the heavy duty extension cords. All of my lawn tools are electric, so I get A LOT of exercise when I do yard work.

Great Video KatFish, very moving.
From Last night;”……..Still got “Maryann’s” head in my neighbors freezer.
Who or what was Maryann ??If memory serves she was the FFA Pig. When my Daughter was in FFA she raised two pigs 9 rabbits and a dozen turkeys. We auctioned her first pig and the buyer donated her back because he was just trying to help the scholarship program. I thought about putting Bama in the freezer but didn’t have the heart because Daughter loved that pig and had taught it walk along side her for the show, (with the help of a riding crop). The pig, like all pigs was very smart and loved Daughter. I gave her to a buddy of mine and he called later and said don’t worry ‘bout Bama, she’s resting comfortably in my big freezer. 😉
Here’s Daughter and Bama, Daughter would have been 16 at the time. -

mharper42, I’ve not mentioned this but my Wife sold her insurance agency last summer and was looking for something to keep her busy part time. Around the end of the year one of the Ladies at the Association retired and my wife took the job. There was a LOT of friction between her and the other Lady who USED to be my Wife’s friend. It’s a long gory story but both decided they couldn’t work together and now my wife runs it by herself, (after 3 months of HE!!). BTW; This is an intro into today’s Easter Egg hunt, her first, so wish her luck, not that She needs it. The retired Lady has helped her a few times and will today along with some volunteers. Who’d though that my Bride would be an Community Association NAZI. 😀

Very sad to hear of Marc’s passing. There seemed to be some hope in the last few FB postings Sally made. Marc truly was one of the nice guys in the old LST/Faux News fambly.

Dooood Our prayers go out to Marc’s family and his Bride, I think he called her Stormy? Do you know how old he was, I guessing late 60’s. He was one of the originals here and I think he went to the first Brew-Ha-Ha. RIP

Donald Trump opines on several celebrities. Guess who these are:
“She went to my wedding. She had lots and lots of cake, and I’ll tell you what, she is a terrible human being.”
“This is probably the least innocent person I`ve ever seen.”
No fair peeking!

Good read for Birthers.
OK, for the past two days I’ve bee puking up my stomach contents more than Tedtam’s kitty. My ribs feel bruised and I think I have a slight fever. So this will porbably be my only post today.
Happ Easter weekend, Hamsters.

HOA Nazi is a thankless job. I stepped into a vacancy on our board 6 years ago and enjoyed it the first 4 years. Now it is just a grind. We have very little civic spirit in our subdivision the last couple of years, so when we need volunteers, it is usually just me and one other woman. And, like your wife was, I’m butting heads now with another board member.
This is my announced last year with the HOA, then I switch my allegiance to the Greater Inwood Partnership which is a super-neighborhood non-profit group in my area. They run a number of programs that appeal to me and have a large enough population base so there are more than 2 volunteers on a Work Day.

Good afternoon Hamsters. Steady SE wind that exceeded the breeze stage late this morning brings 45% humidity and 85 degrees at 4 pm. Watering the yard, newly planted redbud tree, and newly planted flowerbeds continues to monopolize each day. The current high overcast looks promising but delivers nothing of substance except welcome deeper shade. This weather pattern is stubborn and demoralizing, and a wet Easter Sunday would be wonderful. Years back when we still lived in Wisconsin on a March Easter Sunday we went to church in a blizzard.
Darren, best wishes for a speedy recovery from the stomach bug. That is misery.

Adee,
Thanks for the weather report, seems like everyone else is too busy to set on the Couch for a spell.
Yep, I’ll take 2 inches of shade over a blazing sun any day in a drought.
I got my front yard done and have the sprinklers out on trees and shrubs. The grass itself has done vey well considering the harsh cold winter and this unending drought.

I likewise can’t quite place Marc Boyd from LST days. Might be that I chimed in there late. I do recall occasional mention of Stormy early on in my visits to the site. However as Darren said, thoughts and prayers for him and his family. The old LST gang is still missed.

I see I am not the only early riser today. Condolences to Marc’s family. Happy Easter to all.
I went and saw The Movie yesterday in Tomball. This was the first time I had been in a theatre since I saw Private Ryan on the big screen. Small crowd of maybe 10 at the 5:00 matinee, mostly middle age and up.
I thoroughly enjoyed the movie. I didn’t notice some of the things others have criticized the movie about, low budget, choppy editing. I just fell into the story and moved along with it. I have read Atlas Shrugged several times so it was easy to follow. Trophy wife’s comment was that if you hadn’t read the book or were not familiar with the characters you might come out wondering what you saw. A valid criticism I believe. She also thought the characters were flat, lacking emotion, they were however wonderfully cast and believable in their roles. Wyatt and Mouch I thought were particularly good.
The film, if you haven’t seen it, follows the book quite well in my view, while of course leaving out a lot because of time constraints. While I do not consider myself an objectivist, Rand does make some excellent points and points out some severe weaknesses in people and society in general. If you haven’t seen it, I recommend the movie.
Just my opinion.
And now back to my desperately needed coffee.

An example of the looters in action
In early 2010 — and with no scientific backup — Congressman Ed Markey (D-MA) sent one letter to the CEOs of thirteen companies with Triclosan products urging them to remove it from the manufacturing process, and another to the FDA, asking the agency to ban it. A month later Mr. Markey introduced a bill aimed at antimicrobials, instructing EPA to list 100 substances that “may” be in drinking water and could “possibly” be harmful or better yet, have a “similarity” to a substance that does. And test them all– at taxpayers’ expense.
The bill had only five co-sponsors and went nowhere, but served as the setup.
Last summer the NRDC formalized its attack on antimicrobial products by filing suit against the FDA for not taking action against Triclosan. The FDA is reviewing the compounds, noting since it first investigated them in 1978, there is no evidence that they poses any threat to consumers or the environment.
snip
A subsequent memo from NRDC’s public relations consultant (who previously worked for several Marxist governments) published in The Wall Street Journal gave insight into the revenue side of unfounded product safety accusations: “We designed (the Alar campaign) so revenue would flow back to the NRDC from the public … to date there has been $700K in net revenue from it.”Let’s find a really useful product, demonize it for no reason, scare people for no reason and get rich by basically doing nothing. Oh, and possibly cripple an industry while we are at it. What fun. Looters

For those of you heathens out there who are gonna grill in the back yard instead of going to church, services are going on here right now, and willbe rebroadcast at 9:45AM, & 11:30AM. Put it on your laptop in the background and go ahead and grill. Even if your not particularly religious, its worth it for the bass solo in the opening worship music.
Happy Easter, y’all.

Easter blessings. A beautiful sunny morning with all creatures great and small out and about in the ever-present southerly breeze, dashing through the dappled shade, flying from tree to ground to tree, grazing in the pastures or communing over the fence, snoozing in a favorite spot. And the unfeathered bipeds reflect on the great miracle this day recalls.
All things bright and beautiful,
All creatures great and small,
All things wise and wonderful,
The Lord God made them all.Thank you, Lord.

Sarge;
If you want to hear bass from a solo I suggest adding a pair of these to the laptop. Ain’t no way you’re going to get decent bass from a laptop’s native speakers. And heathens deserve great bass just as the Lord’s faithful. 😉

Well I did work the computer presentation at church this morning, and now I’m not exactly grilling, but I am smoking a coupla pieces o’ pork. Not sure where that puts me on the heathen scale.

I never knew Marc or Stormy. Prayers to her for grief relief; and the understanding that he got to go home early. Their loss is his gain as the place where he is now is much better than where we are now. While we grieve the loss of a loved, one we can console ourselves that the one we miss has a victory and that we WILL see them again soon enough; IT IS ALL IN HIS HANDS AND IN HIS TIMING.

Back from a wonderful as usual Easter buffet at Karl’s At the Riverbend on FM 723 in rural Richmond. Several large multigenerational families seated near us included some adorable grandkids trying to contain their enthusiasm for several bowls of chocolate eggs and jelly beans just out of reach on a side table next to the buffet. The colored eggs decorating the buffet tables were carefully placed toward the back. Some kiddos still in Easter go to church dress were trying not to spill anything on the finery, under a parent’s watchful eyes.
The wait staff was there hours before the first seatings, the chefs much earlier. I asked our waitress how many miles did she think she walked today. She said about 6, as one holiday she wore a pedometer to find out. Wow. Everything was organized to the last detail, and all the seatings were taken several weeks ago. As usual there was a waiting list in case of cancellation. So now we are home, pleasantly full, and happy there are no leftovers to put away nor dishes to wash. Mariposa is casually looking for dinner, no urgency yet.

Transgender woman, 22, tells of brutal attack
‘They were kicking me in the face’
Restaurant owner says worker who filmed attack has been fired and other staff face discipline
McDonald’s says incident is ‘disturbing and troubling’
Police consider charging black girls with racist hate crime
If you hadn’t guessed, this is an update on the beat down the McDondal’s patron received by two young African American females. The vitcim was beaten until he/she had a seizure. At that point it is clearly heard by at least one McDonald’s employee that the two culprits/suspects should leave the scene because the police were on their way.
From all accounts available that I’ve seen, the vicitm was transgender and now the LGBT community wants this crime to be investigated as a hate crime. While I fully agree this seems to be hate-based, it is NOT hate against a transgendered person. I could be wrong, perhaps the two young girls, who apparently do not have much respect for others, only self-conceited egos about themselves, were out just to look for a fight. Either way, they have both been charged for this assault and I hope prosecution is successful.
As for McDonald’s, other than calling the cops and doing what they can to contain the culprits until the police arrive, I don’t know what they should do as it deals with intervention. But clearly standing around and laughing at this situation is not the answer.

#39 – What happens when one protected group gets assaulted by members of another protected group. Does one of them eventually (1) resort to Republicanism, or, more likely, (2) does each side retain its own set of protected professionals (trial lawyers) to spend years haggling over minuscule details, pointing fingers, getting face time on TV, jacking up hourly rates, and all of it being paid for by the taxpayers? I go with door number 2.

Regarding the beat-down, I read somewhere that the fight started in the women’s restroom. If the unfortunate transgender victim was outed by the beastie girls, that could be the problem. I have stated here that I don’t see transgenders as monsters or mentally ill, but I do think they need to be cautious just for their own safety.
A ghetto bathroom is not a good place to let it be observable in any way that there is something different about you.

I’ve seen the news story on Ch. 11 about Mrs.Cantu upset that her grandson not receiving First Communion. He suffers from cerebral palsy and is mentally retarded, and is not capable of understanding what the sacrament of the Eucharist is. Then Mrs. Cantu goes on to say how insulted she is that the priest offered Anointing of the Sick to the boy; she thinks it is only administered to those about to die.
It’s sad enough that Mrs. Cantu is ignorant of her own religion. It’s at least as bad that the Ch 11 team did not check the facts of the case. It’s even worse if they did – and I’m sure they were notified by other Catholics besides me of the faulty statement – and continue to report the story “as was” and try to portray the Catholic Church as unfeeling.
I’m waiting to see if I get a response to the correction that I sent to them. Not really holding my breath.

(sticks head out of LurkCave, blinking as Texas dust blows into eyes, even from this late evening breeze)
Hello Hamsterousians! A mighty hip-hip-HOORAY! HE IS RISEN!!
Condolences, encouragement, empathy, and laughter — though I don’t post much, I give them all — and more — to you as needed.

mharper;
The victim in my #40 link denied the ordeal started in the restroom. It is possible that these two girls Chrissy Lee decided in the bathroom to beat up the victim because the victim is treansgendered but I simply highly doubt it. I think strating fights in fast fod joints and filming them have become a fad and these two girls were simply looking for a fight to begin with. I think race has a much higher probability to be the cause factor than transgenderdness.

el gordo;I think if this happened in a white religious/conservative area, there would be far more news coverage on this topic than relegating it to the internet.
Also, I liked your pick in music for your #22 post. In fact that was our closing hymn today for sacrament meeting.

What is probably the most harrowing of the clips depicts a public beheading. A man with a long knife can be seen alternately sawing and hacking at the neck of a man who has been suspended upside-down. The victim’s inert body is soaked in blood. The beheading takes place in front of a burnt-out building in what appears to be a public square. The Dutch public broadcaster NOS has identified the location as the main square of the rebel capital of Benghazi.
A crowd numbering at least in the hundreds cheers on the assailants. At one point, a man begins chanting “Libya Hurra!”: “Free Libya!” According to the NOS translation, someone can be heard saying, “He looks like an African.” As the principal assailant begins to saw at the victim’s neck, members of the crowd yell “Allahu Akbar!” Dozens of members of the crowd can be seen filming the proceedings with digital cameras or cell phones. (See clip #1 here or here.)
These are the folks NATO’s helping in Libya. So supose they succeed and establish a new government. Then what?
Also,
Senator John McCain’s description of the Libyan rebels as his “heroes” has raised numerous eyebrows. PJM editor David Steinberg has had the excellent idea of seeking comment from the senator’s office on the extensive video evidence of atrocities committed by some of the senator’s newfound “heroes.”
Hmmmm, do Senators research things before they speak?
