Bully Tuesday Open Comments

From Thomas Sowell:

There is a lot of talk from many people about bullying in school. The problem is that it is all talk. There is no sign that anybody is going to do anything that is likely to reduce bullying.
When politicians want to do nothing, and yet look like they are doing something, they appoint a blue ribbon committee or go to the U.N. or assign some Cabinet member to look into the problem and report back to the President — hoping that the issue will be forgotten by the time he reports back.

If there is anything worse than doing nothing, it is doing nothing spiced with empty rhetoric about what behavior is “unacceptable” — while in fact accepting it.
Might educators abuse their power, if the courts did not step in? Of course they could. Any power exercised by human beings can be abused. But, without the ability to exercise power, there is anarchy.
When responsible officials are prevented from exercising power, then bullies exercise power.
President Barack Obama has joined the chorus of those deploring bullying. But his own administration is pushing the notion that a disproportionate number of suspensions or other punishments for members of particular racial or ethnic groups is discriminatory.
In other words, if a school suspends more black males than Asian females, that is taken as a sign of discrimination. No one in his right mind really believes that, but it is part of the grand make-believe that pervades our politics and even our courts.

Do you hear these, read ‘em somewhere, find ‘em online? Or are you inventing these jokes? If the latter, I am way impressed!

In my younger years I had a photographic mind (alas, no more) and as a result I have untold numbers of jokes, quotes and witticisms randomly floating around in my head. Humor is based on a series of normal/logical events ending in an abnormal/illogical conclusion. When I read or hear something one or more of those “floaters” will pop up and I modify it to fit the situation. There are only 10 basic items for humor, so all jokes are the same illogical conclusions worded in a different way.

Sure takes the mystery out of it, doesn’t it?
    10 types of humor:

    imitative of reality
    surprise/misdirection
    contradiction/paradox
    ambiguity
    hyperbole
    metaphor
    farce
    re-framing
    behaving in an unusual way

The focus on bullying is just another feel good diversion. Get everybody wound up about protecting the children so their feelings don’t get hurt and they go around sniffing unicorn’s expulsions all day. After all we know kids can’t look after themselves and are very fragile.

    http://dailycaller.com/2011/04/19/classic-kids-games-like-kickball-deemed-unsafe-by-state-in-effort-to-increase-summer-camp-regulation/

And must be protected from all things. In the meantime the government erodes your personal wealth, destroys the economy, gets us into another war and generally destroys a once great country.

Time to stop the smoke and mirrors and quit allowing these pc administrators who don’t have clue from bullying us with more government crap and lose of freedoms.

The Thomas Sowell article is well worth the read, as most of his are. There is a clear pattern; create a “huge problem” after having created the conditions in which the problem will flourish then propose a “solution” that has no chance of working due to the prevalent conditions. The only solution is to make more rules and take away more freedom and punish everybody except those directly responsible for the problem. Classic lib-terd/utopian insanity.

Rights come with responsibilities. That is too often forgotten. However, when a right can be limited in any way it is no longer a right. It becomes a privilege subject to someone’s personal idea of what should be done. We then stop being citizens and become subjects.

The zucchini are about to start coming in, and ‘maters are here, but still green. I have a feeling that when they start turnin’, I’ll be overloaded. Not that I can ever have too many tomatoes…

As to the bully issue, I’ve always told my kids “It’s the small people who feel that they have to chop others off at the knees to feel tall.”

Bully’s should be treated like pimples; pop them when they are ready and don’t fiddle around with them.
I figger the best way to “cure” a bully is for 2-3 of his victims to gang up on him and give it all back to him at once – with interest and penalties! After this has been accomplished, advise said bully that this will be merely “foreplay” should he resume his previous activities.

This, of course, is after finally getting livestock control to come out yesterday, issue the owner 3 citations and posting a “notice of intent” to seize the animal iffin’ the man fails to provide proof of vet bill within 24 hours. This is probably because Indiana is a socon state:

A 16-year-old northern Indiana girl has been charged as an adult with four felonies and a 14-year-old has admitted juvenile charges of battery and confinement in connection with an attack on a 17-year-old special needs boy.

The Times of Munster reports the 14-year-old girl wept Monday as she admitted the charges from the attack and other charges from unrelated incidents. Monday. She faces a May 9 sentencing.

Police have said the two girls lured the boy to a home April 9, threatened him with a knife, then handcuffed and sexually battered him.

During the investigation, detectives found 30 female minors who claimed they were being held by the gangs against their will.
The gang members allegedly recruited prostitutes using such social networking sites as MySpace, Facebook and Twitter, Duffy said. The gang members would target runaways or girls from broken homes. Investigators allege the gang members would often gift the women and girls to each other.

The “transparency” in the Obama administration means sometimes a question can’t even get asked.

The discovery came today at the daily White House news briefing with press secretary Jay Carney, who responded to a request to be allowed to ask about the president’s positions: “I’m not going to take your questions.”

Ironically, Les Kinsolving, WND’s correspondent at the White House and the No. 2 reporter on the White House beat, had wanted to ask about Obama’s openness.

#40 Bones, not only will I not attack your character, I won’t make fun of your hair.

Let me guess, you will attack my character and person because I asked pertinent questions AND you will not even come close to simple concise answers to the questions posed, correct?

Nor will I be obligated to answer your “questions.” You put the argument, you provide evidence that your allegations are plausible, or even reasonable. All I’ve seen from any of the many vocal birthers so far are conspiracy theories, and I dismiss them out of hand. The motives behind the theories are more than obvious in this case.

I recently requested 3 copies of my birth certificate from the State of Louisiana. What arrived looked very much like Obama’s. The original hand written records are no longer available, and the microfiche they were stored on is long since crackly. Automating vital records saves government (and us) time and money. Efficiency makes sense.

But, I reckon that according to your “logic” I’m not eligible to run for president because the State of LA wisely automated its vital records, as did Hawaii.

btw, Obama shot JFK, and faked the moon landing.

Born as Geswanouth Slahoot in North Vancouver,[1] his English name was originally Dan Slaholt. On the subject from last night of suicide and gays, here is a superb article that touches on the issue in a profound way.

And that is where the revolutionaries fail. They began, in the hoary old days of Herbert Marcuse, by justifying the new “virtues” of freedom of sexual expression, on the grounds that we would be a looser, friendlier, sweeter, less violent, and more beautiful society. Well, that certainly didn’t happen. Aquarius had a cracked pot. Look at Baltimore, look at Detroit, look at the fatherless families, look at the plague of divorce, look at the snarling contempt of one sex for the other, look at the prisons, look at the sewage of mass entertainment, look at the “knowing” and jaded children, look at the venereal diseases, look at the sheer boredom evinced by the women’s magazines boasting the next hottest sex tip or five new and improved ways to get what you want out of your bedmate. The sexual revolutionaries have for too long simply begged the question. They say, “We should be allowed to do this, because every sexual desire short of rape and (sometimes) adultery should be tolerated—no, encouraged, even honored in law.” But that is to justify the sexual revolution by saying that the sexual revolution is justified. Let them do more. Let them argue that the sexual revolution—in its entirety—has conduced to the common good. Let them argue that a society, if it can be called one, wherein a ten-year-old boy knows all about sodomy is a better place than one in which he hasn’t the faintest notion of it, but is too busy collecting baseball cards. Let them argue that a society in which a ten-year-old girl must wait once a month to see her father, if his new bedmate doesn’t get in the way, is a better place than one in which it never occurs to her that her mother and father may ever part company.

Even when standards have devolved down to pure utilitarianism it would seem that the sexual revolution is indefensible. But, from Bob’s point of view (and those of his ilk), we are the problem — what he calls our judgementalism, our homophobia (whatever that is), our prudishness and guilt mongering. It’s not that his agenda has been a miserable failure. No, its laudable goals have simply been frustrated by the likes of us, with our insistence on outworn and arbitrary customs instilled by ancient peoples who were unenlightened as to the truth of materialistic evolution. If only we could be set aside, the dawning of his brave new libertarian/antinomian world would be at hand.

You are one among the many conservative authoritarians that advocate for the most private of free associations to be unnecessarily intruded on by a big government, on your behalf. You and others vocally and actively promote discrimination and unequal treatment under the law.

You’re free to associate with whomever or whatever you choose.

It is in society’s interests to encourage a particular sort of free associations in order to enhance that society’s long-term prospects. This does not preclude your free associations; it merely does not encourage them. It sounds to me like you need the government’s imprimatur on your free association for you to feel that it’s validated somehow.

What we have here ladies, gentlemen, Bi-Gay-transmission-types and Bob is a failure to grasp the concept of cause and effect. When a society chooses to undermine the moral foundations of its existence that society will inevitably crumble, there is no other possible outcome. If a society chooses to shore-up and repair those same foundations then the society has the possibility (depending on the degree of sincerity of effort and closeness to ideal goal) of re-achieving its former glory. When a society deems it appropriate to murder innocent, unborn children still in the womb; that society has lessened the value of human life. When there is decreased value on INNOCENT HUMAN LIFE there will be dis-inclination to direct ones thoughts and actions towards the higher societal goals such as: peace, civility and genuine charity towards ones fellow citizens. What takes the place of these noble goals is hedonism, lack of compassion and a general lack of clarity of thought; please read the inane ramblings of SJL, EBJ, Nanzi Pelouse and Maxine Waters for proof of this concept. I am scanning in Handsome’s ARD paperwork to have a digital record (which Carbonite will keep safe for me) and to make it easier to send to the university or whoever else may need a copy. Since his ARD papers number about 30-40 pages, this is much faster than hand feeding on the flatbed scanner.

Let them argue that a society in which a ten-year-old girl must wait once a month to see her father, if his new bedmate doesn’t get in the way, is a better place than one in which it never occurs to her that her mother and father may ever part company.

Detective Chad Winn, speaking during a preliminary hearing in Warren County District Court, said Kathy Michelle Coy told 21-year old Jamie Stice they were going shopping for baby supplies but took her instead to a wooded area with plans to kill her.

Even though Rand, an Objectivist, was an ultra-pro business libertarian and the vast majority of film critics are left-liberals, in this case the critics are right.

In fact, it’s worse. Atlas Shrugged, Part 1 (save us from 2 and 3) is an amateurish enterprise of embarrassing proportions that I strongly suspect would have had Rand herself running for cover. (I also predict its decent limited release box office opening will fade quickly.)

Some writers have defended the film as being under-budgeted. This is the least of its problems. The same script shot for $300 million would have been just as bad — or nearly — as the one shot for $30 million. It would still have had wooden characters delivering wooden lines (that were largely exposition anyway) with an entirely predictable, poorly paced plot set in an oddly anachronistic near future.

    I think I’ll wait until it’s Netflixed.

Swearing can help relieve pain, study claims

Scientists from Keele University found that letting forth a volley of foul language can have a powerful painkilling effect, especially for people who do not normally use expletives.

To test the theory, student volunteers placed their hands in a bucket of ice cold water while swearing repeatedly.

They then repeated the exercise but, instead of swearing, used a harmless phrase instead.

Researchers found that the students were able to keep their hands submerged in the icy water for longer when repeating the swear word – establishing a link between swearing and an increase in pain tolerance.

So was Porky a slow learner?

Two weeks ago, former federal district judge Vaughn Walker, who ruled last summer in Perry v. Schwarzenegger that California’s Proposition 8 is unconstitutional, publicly disclosed for the first time that he has been in a same-sex relationship for the past ten years. A straightforward application of the judicial ethics rules compels the conclusion that Walker should have recused himself from taking part in the Perry case. Further, under well-established Supreme Court precedent, the remedy of vacating Walker’s judgment is timely and necessary.

I knew Walker’s ruling was gay. Now, may we please remedy his ruling?

Does the bulk of your family come from Florida? Just curious. Mine come from the midwest rural/small town communities. Dad was the first that I know of to move out to the big city. Grandma and Grandpa absolutely hated driving out to see us. In fact I trhink they only did that twice in, like, 20 years.

I’m avoiding eye contact, but in my peripheral vision I can see her looking up at me every few seconds for the cue that she may continue on her way. Back paws on the floor, front paws on my leg, and the occasional glance up with those big kitty eyes, hoping for validation of her existence.

Now she’s doing the paw on my arm, and then tucking her head under my arm.

Funny… last night I “wasn’t worth banning” but today the immoral irrational coward has apparently nuked several comments. I respect the coward’s right to do so. After all, the couch is his property. If he can’t handle a dissenting opinion that challenges him to think and provide rational reasons for his support of a big so-con government, it is his problem, not mine.

#64 Hamous. You are one among the many conservative authoritarians that advocate for the most private of free associations to be unnecessarily intruded on by a big government, on your behalf. You and others vocally and actively promote discrimination and unequal treatment under the law. At least the parasite politicians have an excuse–They make it a political football for personal gain and increased power.

When it comes time to put some real facts behind your irrational fears and typical in-group/out-group authoritarianism, you tuck your tail and run, just like the NOM and the AFA. You have and offer no excuse or rationale behind your apparent need to disadvantage others under the thumb of the big government you support. In my opinion, that makes you not only a coward, but an immoral coward.

Go ahead coward. Delete this one too. Prove that you’re a coward that can’t provide a rational argument for disadvantaging other people.

Regardless of the reason, I will grant that you are admirably steadfast in your defense of property. You are barred from mine.
