I always thought the little giraffe in this commercial was photographically manipulated somehow. Yes, they are fake, but just imagine….
It got me thinking – what else can we find in miniature form? Not just naturally small stuff, but miniaturized form? I went looking for these wee things with my magnifying glass and a small net. First I found the rare panda cow, which only grows to be a few hundred pounds. It reminds me of an Oreo® cookie on four legs.
Next, I found teacup pigs. Yep, tiny little swine that make great pets. Perfect for those people on diets who crave just a little BLT sammich every now and then. And if your grandbaby gets tired of walking and you don’t have a little red wagon, you can get one of these little horses to tote that tot! And to keep the piggie and pony company, you can get a baby doll sheep for that “awwwwww” factor.
Moving away from the animal realm, I found these miniaturized items. Everything you need for the aspiring farmer who doesn’t really want to farm much. And for those who don’t want to drive much, you have these.
And for those who don’t want to think much, there’s this guy and his select few. Unfortunately, they are as real as lap giraffes are fake.
Now, if you’ve had enough of small stuff, try taking a gander at this!

How long do we have before the implosion? I’m almost 65 years old, so the question is will the implosion occur during my lifetime or after? I guess if I were Big O, I would assume that the implosion would occur at the same time as my passing – but that things would revert to form 3 days later. After all, if you are the Messiah and are omnipotent, why would you worry about the future?

My money (what will be left of it – heh!) is on the fiscal implosion happening during your lifetime. I’d love to think it won’t happen at all but I know that it’s going to be a choice between bad and REALLY BAD.

TGIF Well as I was driving through the gate this morning one of the Rent-a-Cops told me my left brake light was out, I thanked him and drove on down to my building. As I was pulling in the little Incan Cleaning Gal come over, speaking half english and half spanish trying to explain to me that my brake light was out. So I have folks looking out after me, may have saved me a ticket. Outta’ be a good day. 😉

Oh and remember the death penalty is NOT a deterrent to murder.
Man accused of stalking woman before killing her in Oak Brook.About two weeks ago, Smirnov decided to leave Canada, returning to the United States, Berlin said. He first stopped in Seattle to buy a .40-caliber handgun and ammunition.
Smirnov arrived in Chicago last weekend, using the Internet to locate Vesel’s home, Berlin said. He then used a GPS tracking device, which he glued to Vesel’s car, to track her movements via the Internet, Berlin said.
Berlin said Smirnov had done research on the Internet to determine if Illinois had the death penalty, deciding to go through with Vesel’s murder when he discovered it does not. -

further to my #11 above, on the good side of this equation; if you see the fit hit the shan you will also likely see the return of THE MESSIAH as all the parts are in place and all the prophecies tend to point to this season. No one knows the exact day or hour but we are commanded to know the season. Read Matt 24-25.

Is it just me, or are Muslims getting even more hyper-sensitive?
Newspaper ads for the “Trinny & Susannah Do Israel” show have sparked a row among Muslims, as they show the two British fashion advisors dressed in immodest clothing against the backdrop of the al-Aqsa Mosque and Western Wall.
Picture of the “immodest clothing” in question at the link. Unless the dresses are really short, they’re not particularly immodest.

In previous years, I’ve claimed both daughters as a dependents on my taxes. We’d figure them out both ways, and I’d reimburse them for the increased amounts paid as a result of not being able to claim herself (up to the amount of tax I saved by claiming her.)
Older daughter’s income last year was large enough that it was best for her to claim herself. My babies are really growing up! But I can still claim younger daughter, and still have head-of-household status.
Next year, I might have to start claiming the cats as dependents.

Crimminy! The one time senator and future president explains why he voted the way he did. It was for his benefit, not the countries.
think that it’s important to understand the vantage point of a senator versus the vantage point of a … president. When you’re a senator, traditionally what’s happened is, this is always a lousy vote. Nobody likes to be tagged as having increased the debt limit for the United States by a trillion dollars. … As president, you start realizing: ‘You know what? We — we can’t play around with this stuff. This is the full faith in credit of the United States.’ And so that was just a example of a new senator, you know, making what is a political vote as opposed to doing what was important for the country.

Cat Pate’ ? Woman Allegedly Kills Cat For Lady Gaga Concert Outfit. ❓
A relative of Angelina K. Barnes returned to her home in Oklahoma City and found the woman wearing a long coat, with her face covered in blood — later determined to be cat’s blood — ready to attend the concert, KFOR reported.
The light switches in the house had been covered in duct tape to make them almost impossible to turn on.
It was later determined the cat had been drowned in the bathroom, before being sliced open and its eyes mutilated.
The liver of the animal was found in a makeup case on the bathroom’s vanity. -

Our church is having a Seder meal next Wednesday evening. They provide the drinks and the traditional foods (bitter herbs, ???), and we bring the remainder of the meal. We’re supposed to keep it as kosher as we can manage, but I’m not sure what that really means.
The other family at our table is talking about bringing fried chicken and mashed potatoes. I’m thinking about bringing some roasted vegetables and dessert. Veggies are always kosher, right? I’ve been told that macaroons are traditional dessert fare; is there anything else?

#35 Don’t bring anything that is pork or made with pork products. Ditto that for shellfish. You have to read the labels, look for kosher symbols, and if the product has one, you are in good shape. Yes, veggies are always kosher and they fall in the parve category being neither meat nor dairy. If you want to be really “tribal” don’t bring anything that has been prepared in a vessel or with utensils that have been defiled with pork/shellfish/unclean items.

Is the crust on the chicken ok? What if the mashed potatoes have milk/butter/cream in them?
Is a pie or cake that has milk/eggs as an ingredient ok?
Aren’t the rules different for Passover?

We have a new storage subsystem on the market that's pretty cool, but to save money, the engineers decided that it was not necessary to put a serial port on the dual/redundant raid controller hardware (most similar products have them.) Now we have some kind of intermittent problem on the controller hardware that causes them to enter a "deadly embrace," a condition where one controller fails and causes the other to enter a vegetative state. It doesn't happen often, but when it does, access to data on up to 240 2TB drives is lost.Whatever is hosing up the controllers happens before it gets smart enough to turn on the ethernet management interface. So engineering is having a hard time finding root cause. If there was a serial port on the controller, they'd have already been able to capture bootloader messages and other helpful information. As it is now, our techs have to replace both controllers, and send them in for failure analysis. As a result, we've already fractured our budget for parts and labor.
The system uses a garden variety USB stick to hold the configuration info. The SysAdmin plugs it into any PC and the output of a configuration GUI is written to the stick, which is then plugged into the controllers.
I suggested that they create a code patch that would cause all of the early boot messages to be written directly to a flat file on the stick. The patch should be out next week.
<geek=offThis thought came to me during a meeting on the subject at 4AM today (engineering is in Europe.) It's 5PM somewhere. I'm gonna buy myself a beer!

#37 The meat/dairy thing is a rabbinic tradition and is NOT found in the Torah.
Ex 23:19
19 “You shall bring the choice first fruits of your soil into the house of the Lord your God.
” You are not to boil a young goat in the milk of its mother.
NASUEx 34:25-26
25 ” You shall not offer the blood of My sacrifice with leavened bread, nor is the sacrifice of the Feast of the Passover to be left over until morning.
26 “You shall bring the very first of the first fruits of your soil into the house of the Lord your God.
“You shall not boil a young goat in its mother’s milk.”
NASUBoth of the above two citations occur in the midst of sacrifices to Y_VH. The Hebrew word used for young goat is ‘giddey’ while the Hebrew word for meat or flesh is ‘basawr’. Further the usage of “in its mother’s milk” instead of simply “milk” implies specificity of the actual mother of the actual young goat instead of the far more broad meat and milk. It is understood that the Canaanites of the land used to boil a young goat in the literal milk of its literal mother and poor that substance on the ground as a sacrifice to some pagan god to make the crops grow the next season and it is this practice (worshiping the pagan gods, or as the pagans do) that was specifically prohibited. If the prohibition was to not mix meat and milk it would have said simply, ‘do not eat meat with milk’.
Deut 14:21
21 ” You shall not eat anything which dies of itself. You may give it to the alien who is in your town, so that he may eat it, or you may sell it to a foreigner, for you are a holy people to the Lord your God. You shall not boil a young goat in its mother’s milk.
NASUIn this passage, the discussion is about what is acceptable as food for holy people. Holiness, in this context means “set apart”, Y_VH set apart the Nation of Israel as a beacon of HIS Glory and as an example of what HE wanted to be understood as a righteous lifestyle. This does not mean that the people were successful, however, that IMHO was the intent.
In the effort of clarity, neither fish nor foul are considered “meat” for the purposes of the meat/dairy thing as neither of those give milk. -

From a recovering homophobe who helped design, and traveled with NOM’s summer tour. The people he met on that tour, and on his related blog changed his mind.
As you may already know, I was the one behind the 2010 Summer for Marriage Tour which the National Organization for Marriage sponsored and operated throughout July and August last year. It was my doing when, in March that year, I approached Brian Brown, then Executive Director of the National Organization for Marriage about sponsoring and participating in a series of traditional marriage rallies scattered around the Nation.
– – –
At that point, between what I had witnessed on the marriage tour and RJ’s post about marriage equality, I really came to understand that gays and lesbians were just real people who wanted to live real lives and be treated equally as opposed to, for example, wanting to destroy American culture. No, they didn’t want to destroy American culture, they wanted to openly particulate in it.

Indeed Christians and Catholics alike are well within their right to demand that holy matrimony, a sacrament and service performed by the Church and recognized by the Church, remains between a man and a woman as their faith would dictate. However, that has nothing to do with civil marriage, performed and recognized by the State in accordance with state law.My name is Louis J. Marinelli, a conservative-Republican and I now support full civil marriage equality. The constitution calls for nothing less.
Could someone point me to the portion of the Constitution that empowers the federal government to define the most private of free associations that some people call marriage?
DOMA will either be repealed or ruled unconstitutional. In either event, it should not remain the political football that social conservative authoritarians want it to be. They’ve milked it for all it’s worth.
-
From a recovering homophobe who helped design, and traveled with NOM’s summer tour.

Okay, if my husband “honors” me in this way, I don’t think he would ever sleep with me again. As a matter of fact, here in Texas, the woman may “honor” her husband with a quickly delivered metal object ejected from a device which may otherwise be engaged in acquiring 4 legged protein supplements for the diet.

Prices of new homes in China’s capital plunged 26.7% month-on-month in March, the Beijing News reported Tuesday, citing data from the city’s Housing and Urban-Rural Development Commission.
If they have a real estate price collapse, what would that to to their ability/willingness to continue to buy US Treasuries?

#50 I’m calling BPH on this:
“By printing documents in English-only,” Berman says, “you’ll save millions of dollars in printing, ink costs, and time of employees.”
Millions? Show me the money! Leo “The Birther” Berman in no way backs up his assertion with facts. Ink and paper costs do not depend on the language that is printed. Apparently he and Riddle are so stupid that they think all the lege has to do is pass their brain fart bill, and like magic everybody in the state will speak English. (Or at the least, they think their supporters will buy that.)
This is yet another attempt to disguise an appeal to xenophobes as some act of fiscal conservatism. Berman and Riddle are liars.

Definitely not all Christians are Catholic and not all Catholics are truly Christians; there is an intersection between the 2 groups but they are not equivalent. They are not like the sharks and fish comparison either. -

#55 Bob: Take a breath for a second.
1) It takes more paper to print if you have to print in multiple languages.
2) It costs money to translate into the plethora of different languages that we currently print in now.
3) State Business is conducted in English; if you aren’t fluent and literate in the language, you really don’t know what is going on; you become the pawn of the poverty/race pimps like Johnny Mata or SJL. This is evidence that you are not an informed voter and really not qualified to participate in the process. It costs more money to print in multiple languages, we are trying to stop wasting money. This is one of those cases (borders, language, culture) where the benefits of changing and streamlining is greater than the incremental savings represented in decreased paper and toner usage, and is therefore very worthwhile.

There are “Catholics” who are not in true communion with the Church; they may be Christian, but they are not Catholic in the strict sense.

Oh those mooooooslim hijinks.
Following nearly a week of quiet for the residents of the South, warning sirens were heard in the Ashdod area on Friday afternoon after two Grad rockets were fired from the Gaza Strip.

IDF sources said they predicted that while the cease-fire had gone into effect, it would likely be limited in time.“We succeeded in postponing a large-scale conflict with Hamas but that conflict is likely inevitable,” one senior officer said on Monday.
How long do you think we would tolerate rockets from Canada or Mexico? I marvel at the patience and long-suffering of the Israelis.

#57 Bones, Leo “The Birther” Berman said it would save “Millions.” But didn’t say how. Gee, I wonder why… Oh but no, I don’t, he was telling a total lie.
Let’s assume (just for a moment) that Berman/Riddle’s delusional nonsense becomes law, and magically, everyone in Texas speaks English. Does that reduce the amount of paper or ink that needs to be used to conduct state business? (Duh, no it doesn’t, not at all. They are liars.)
From a more realistic standpoint, let’s assume their “feel good” legislation passes, but there is no magical learning of English as a result. What would follow is an increased demand for bilingual government employees to handle the logically resulting confusion that would follow. Compare the cost of a one time translation prior to printing to the added costs of hiring more bilingual state employees to deal with citizens on the phone or in person. Duh! Again Leo the Liar, show me the money.
Non-English speaking citizens learning English is a good thing! But this brain fart bill is not the way to do it. It will not save “millions.” Instead, it will increase labor costs. It will not convince a significant number of citizens to learn English. And it is another classic example of delusional knee jerk social conservative politicians stupidly thinking that passing a law automatically renders the results they claim it will. It’s merely feel-good, do-nothing legislation proposed primarily to appeal to their base.
Berman and Riddle are probably smart enough to know this. Therefore, I consider them purposeful liars that are unworthy of my trust, and of holding any office. I value honesty. They value power.

What would follow is an increased demand for bilingual government employees to handle the logically resulting confusion that would follow
The purpose of the legislation would be that anyone wanting to do business with the government would conduct that business in Texan, not Chinese, Botswanan, Mexican or any other language. Government documents would only be printed in Texan, or Texanadian.
If you can’t speak the language th onous would be on you to provide your own translator, with the courts probably being an execption.
A new report conducted by the Fraser Institute finds that Canada is spending up to $1.8 billion annually to conform with Canada’s federal bilingual mandates. The study estimated the cost of government services in French at $55 per Canadian per year.
If that figure was applied to the U.S. population of 306 million, the cost of similar government mandated bilingualism could approach $19 billion annually. The complete study is available for free download on the Fraser Institute website.
http://www.us-english.org/view/655
Double printing everything for people who refuse to assimate is a needless waste. According to US Census data Texas population is almost 25 million, Canada’s population is approximately 34 million. The cost to Texas for printing everything double is probably pretty close.

Just so everyone’s clear on the absurdity of Bobo’s FUD-mongering that the bill will lead to Mexicans swinging from mesquite trees at the hands of evil right-wing social conservative birthers, let’s read what the bill does NOT do:
Sec.A2351.004. APPLICABILITY OF CHAPTER. This chapter does
not:
(1) supersede contrary provisions imposed under federal law;
(2) prohibit the use of another language for the public safety, health, or justice;
(3) prohibit instruction in foreign language courses;
(4) prohibit instruction designed to aid students with limited English proficiency in their transition and integration into the education system;
(5) prohibit the promotion of international commerce or tourism; or
(6) prohibit a court or an administrative agency from admitting into evidence or relying on a record that is from another jurisdiction and originally written in another language, if the court or agency determines the record is necessary for a proceeding or hearing. -

To those of you who are nit-pickers about the meaning of words: there is a
medical distinction between Guts and Balls. We’ve all heard about people
having Guts or Balls, but do you really know the difference between them?In an effort to keep you informed, here are the definitions:
GUTS – is arriving home late, after a night out with the guys, being met
by your wife with a broom, and having the Guts to ask, ‘Are you still
cleaning, or are you flying somewhere?’BALLS – is coming home late after a night out with the guys, smelling of
perfume and beer, with lipstick on your collar, and slapping your wife
on the butt and having the Balls to say, ‘You’re next, Chubby.’I hope this clears up any confusion on the definitions.
Medically speaking, there is no difference in the outcome.
Both result in death.

I saw the same news brief early this morning.
For all those who think the Chinese are invinvible and inevitable inheritors of the earth, here is the whole thing.
BEIJING (MNI) – Prices of new homes in China’s capital plunged 26.7% month-on-month in March, the Beijing News reported Tuesday, citing data from the city’s Housing and Urban-Rural Development Commission.
Average prices of newly-built houses in March fell 10.9% over the same month last year to CNY19,679 per square meter, marking the first year-on-year decline since September 2009.
Home purchases fell 50.9% y/y and 41.5% m/m, the newspaper said, citing an unidentified official from the Housing Commission as saying the falls point to the government’s crackdown on speculation in the real estate market.
Beijing property prices rose 0.4% m/m in February, 0.8% in January and 0.2% in December, according to National Bureau of Statistics data.
The central government has launched several rounds of measures since last year designed to cool the housing market, though local government reliance on land sales to plug fiscal holes mean enforcement hasn’t been uniform.
The NBS is expected to release March house price data on April 18.
Forget the standard government excuses offered and be very suspicious of the data reported. It is very likely to be much worse.
Unfortunately, someday in America and the EU, politicians will be debating how much bailout it will take to save the Chinese economy.
Mark my words.

#78 Bob-forty-whacked-out-2: Printing complete documents in 2 or 3 languages costs 2 or 3 times as much. If you can’t get you spindly arms around that concept you have real problems.
As to some of your other straw men:Let’s assume (just for a moment) that Berman/Riddle’s delusional nonsense becomes law, and magically, everyone in Texas speaks English.
NO ONE SAID EVERYONE WOULD MAGICALLY SPEAK ENGLISH
The goal is that everyone who does business with the state (not withstanding courts) especially including elections/ballots must be able to do it in English. The goal is for people who wish to become citizens have the proper incentive to learn the language and ASSIMILATE.(Duh, no it doesn’t, not at all. They are liars.)
We have demonstrated that the above blockquote is an absolute lie, you sir are the liar.
Compare the cost of a one time translation prior to printing to the added costs of hiring more bilingual state employees to deal with citizens on the phone or in person. Duh! Again Leo the Liar, show me the money.
Here again, you misstate the state of affairs: It takes 7 years of residence to become a citizen. If you don’t want to assimilate and learn the language you do not deserve to be a citizen. If you can’t learn the language in 7 WISSIN YEARS OF IMMERSION you have demonstrated a REFUSAL TO ASSIMILATE AND LEARN THE WISSIN LANGUAGE. There are people available who are bi and tri lingual, who work for the state to assist those who are in the process to become a citizen; if you are not a citizen you can’t legally vote, so why the hell do we have to print ballots in a language that is other than the language of citizenship??

The goal is that everyone who does business with the state (not withstanding courts) especially including elections/ballots must be able to do it in English. The goal is for people who wish to become citizens have the proper incentive to learn the language and ASSIMILATE.
Passing Berman’s brain fart will not make that happen. But he’d like folks to think that was the case. (See Hammie’s #71 about what the bill does not do.
Leo can’t show me the money. And neither can you. It’s just another piece of garbage legislation. It takes 7 years of residence to become a citizen.
Leo the Liar’s bill does not repeal birthright citizenship (but I don’t doubt that there are other nutjobs in the lege that might have filed such bills.
Consider for a moment how Leo and Debbie’s ultra-authoritarian approach to this differs from that of private industry and the free market. The latter sees a market and serves it, to the benefit of all. The former sees an opportunity to appeal to their base and exploits for their own benefit with do nothing/save no money brain fart legislation.
It’s Texas politics as usual–BPH. -
Bob, see my 67 above
new report conducted by the Fraser Institute finds that Canada is spending up to $1.8 billion annually to conform with Canada’s federal bilingual mandates. The study estimated the cost of government services in French at $55 per Canadian per year.
If that figure was applied to the U.S. population of 306 million, the cost of similar government mandated bilingualism could approach $19 billion annually. The complete study is available for free download on the Fraser Institute website.

It takes 7 years of residence to become a citizen.
That depends on how you enter the country, there are different types of immigrants. In my case it took 7 years to get the green card, permanent residence and then I have to wait 5 more years before applying for citizenship.

1)Does printing the ballots in 2 or 3 languages (necessarily taking up 2 or 3 times the paper and ink) cost more or less than printing the ballots in one language?
2)Does translating the ballots in 2 or 3 languages cost more or less than having only one language?
3)Is assimilation a necessary task in order to fully participate in society? -

#82 Hamous, your lame, illogical, unsubstantiated, and often contradictory ad hominems and ignorant straw men are pretty old too. But I understand it’s the probably best you can manage. Do keep it up. They’re funny at times.
[Wiss] off Bobo. You’re a propagandist of the highest order. You no longer offer any reasoned discourse of import above petty name-calling (homophobe, xenophobe, authoritarian, blah, blah, blah).
Propagandist? Elaboration and substantiation is required, or else you place yourself in the same class of liars as Leo the Birther. It your statement, it’s your choice. Back it up, back it off, or admit that it was lame, and a lie.
/we can say [wiss] here?

Adee, a little bird told me you are resistant to the whole idea of FaceBook. Is there any chance you will change your mind on this? If you haven’t used FB, you have no idea how convenient & efficient a way it is to keep up with what a multitude of people you know have to say about what they’re doing. It’s like a Readers Digest of what is happening with all your friends. And being online, it is totally asynchronous. Everyone posts when they have a minute (and something to say) and you browse when you have a minute (and want to check the news feed.)
I don’t spend much time on FB but I find it a valuable tool. Recommended!
Oh, and 100 !!! -
Read Hammie’s #71. And show me the money. Leo can’t.
The Texas legislature as well as municipalities pass, unfortunately, thousands of pieces of legislation every year. These need to be printed and made available to the public. Printing them in only one language will save millions. Street signs, ballots and all the other stuff just adds to the savings. Rather than calling Leo a liar why don’t you use a little gray matter and actually think about this instead of continuing crying liar, liar, pants on fire.

Obama lied about how many died.
EVIDENCE IS now in that President Barack Obama grossly exaggerated the humanitarian threat to justify military action in Libya. The president claimed that intervention was necessary to prevent a “bloodbath’’ in Benghazi, Libya’s second-largest city and last rebel stronghold.
But Human Rights Watch has released data on Misurata, the next-biggest city in Libya and scene of protracted fighting, revealing that Moammar Khadafy is not deliberately massacring civilians but rather narrowly targeting the armed rebels who fight against his government.
Misurata’s population is roughly 400,000. In nearly two months of war, only 257 people — including combatants — have died there. Of the 949 wounded, only 22 — less than 3 percent — are women. If Khadafy were indiscriminately targeting civilians, women would comprise about half the casualties.
In the same period of time last year, approximately 325 people were killed in Juarez. Why should we go off and bomb some third-world latrine halfway around the world, when we could just use some artillery across the Rio Grande for a worse situation?

Pesach Seder rough guidelines:
Assuming your Jewish hosts will be bringing the matzoh, make sure there is no bread of any kind brought to the table. If not, stop in your local HEB or Kroger and buy a box of good Israeli matzoh (I like Yehuda brand, although egg matzoh is popular too).
To be safe, avoid all dairy products and ingredients of any kind in any dish, period.
Stick to beef, vegetables and chicken cooked with spices and olive oil if needed.
A nice bottle of Kosher wine from Israel is a good thing.
The Passover Haggadah service is ancient, beautiful and very moving.
Enjoy.

Another Paulie K Klone living in Bizarro World:
…Therefore, as a rule of thumb people develop the notion that debt comes from living beyond your means…to the government, the exact opposite is true.
It is much easier for the government to raise revenue than to cut spending. Moreover, most of the movement in the deficit is tied to movements in revenue, not movements in spending. Thus the exact same reasoning that leads you to associate debt and spending in your personal life should lead you to associate debt and revenue for the government.
Talk about some twisted logic.

#90 & 94, Read Hammie’s #71. And show me the money. Leo can’t.Simple demonstration. For the purposes of this illustration, each electron required to place a letter or punctuation mark in the communication I am about to put on your screen costs $1.00
This is a sentence.
There are 16 letters and punctuation marks in the above sentence, so it costs $16.
If we now add a Spanish translation, it looks like this:
This is a sentence.
Esto es una oración.
We have now added 17 letters and punctuation marks to the cost of the communication, bringing the total to $33. By using English only we save half the total cost. If we add another language to the communication, say French, it looks like this:
This is a sentence.
Esto es una oración.
C’est une phrase.
We have now added 15 letters and punctuation marks to the communication, bringing the total to $48.00. If we use only English in the communication, we are now saving 66% of the cost of the communication. The more languages you have to print, the more millions you save.
If the electrons were ink, the principal is still the same, and so is the cost savings. More letters on documents also translates (no pun intended) into more paper required.
All Federal Documents now have to be printed in 2 languages, Spanish and English. Whatever the Federal Government spends on ink and paper, half of the cost of the ink can be saved by printing only in one language, and somewhere close to half the cost of paper. Bandwidth is also eaten up by using multiple languages on websites.
If Texas can print only in one language, then m,illions of dollars will be saved.
Its a very, very, very simple math exercise.

Few may recognize it as such, but this episode should be seen as a cautionary tale about “progressives” and social engineering experiments on low-income Americans. This morning’s Wall Street Journal article is blunt:
That strategy failed, and the Bentonville, Ark., retail giant now is pursuing a back-to-basics strategy to reverse the company’s fortunes.
The failure, in large part, can be pinned to Leslie Dach: a well-known progressive and former senior aide to Vice President Al Gore. In July 2006, Dach was installed as the public relations chief for Wal-Mart. He drafted a number of other progressives into the company, seeking to change the company’s way of doing business: its culture, its politics, and most importantly its products.
Out went drab, inexpensive merchandise so dear to low-income Americans. In came upscale organic foods, “green” products, trendy jeans, and political correctness. In other words, Dach sought to expose poor working Americans to the “good life” of the wealthy, environmentally conscious Prius driver.
Oh, and Leslie is gone now…
For leading the failed experiment, Dach was awarded three million dollars in stock and a hundred and sixty-eight thousand stock options, in addition to an undisclosed base salary.
Summing up the mess, mechanic Mike Craig told the WSJ:
Wal-Mart just went and broke it.

Glory Be Farm Legacys Bojingle: Bo is 31.5 inches tall and an 8 time World & National AMHA/AMHR Country Pleasure Driving Champion. 2000, 2001, 2007, 2008 & 2009. Back out after a year off and has won 5 AMHR Stakes Championships at 3 shows this year (2011) so far.

Why is it that people don’t consider Catholics Christian?
Sheer ignorance. Just ignore them.

And Mr. Katfish, let me tell you something else about Mr. Squawkmeister: he hates Marshall Tucker.
And “hates” is not a near strong enough word. I would have to get into descriptives to fully express how I loathe that band. I do not want to be banned from Hammieland for such graphic verbal depictions of how much I despise that band.

125 Texpat,
I have shopped mostly at WalMart for years, but sometimes I have erred and went over to Kroger’s and Whole Foods.
I wish you would would tell me where “o” where was that haute cusine section in Wal-Mart that catered to the snooty crowd. My one criticism of Wal Mart is that they seldom if ever offer much in the way of choice for a given product and you could hardly classify any of the offerings as top drawer.
Indeed, their Meat, Fish, and Produce is 2nd or 3rd tier. At least they have Fiesta and some small Mom & Pops to look down upon.
I continue to shop there, but only for the products where compromise is not an issue. After all sugar is still just sugar.

So you thought building a toy train and electing a lesbian mayor was all we needed to make Houston a World Class City, huh? Well apparently that’s not enough. Apparently we need a psychologically unbalanced, self-mutilating tranny to seal the deal:
City council hopeful Jenifer Rene Pool, clad in a black blazer with a hint of a hot pink blouse peeking out from under it, conversed with a supporter upstairs at One’s A Meal in Montrose yesterday afternoon. The subject: how much they both love Glee, especially Pool. “I’ve always thought that life is a musical, so Glee is a prototype for life,” she gushed.
Pool comes from a background of construction and public service; she owns a consulting company that advises on construction projects. She serves on the Building and Standards Commission and Police Advisory Commission, both mayoral appointment positions. Nothing surprising for a woman vying for city council, except for one thing. Pool is transgendered. If life’s a musical, then no one has yet written one quite like Pool’s.
Maybe if we elect even freakier freaks to city council so we’re freakier than NYC we can get a shuttle, despite what Chuckie Schumer sez:

I think you miss the point of a Walmart. They are not a department store there to provide a variety of choices. Their focus is to deliver the best deal, in any given category, on any given day, at the very best price. They do not intend to be all things, to all people, or offer something for everyone in every category.
In fact, that is not, and has not been, the destiny of retailing for a very long time now, on the ground or on the internet.

As a native Houstonian, the fact this took place at One’s A Meal is only fitting.
If Art Wren’s Drugstore were still around it would be even better. That building is Katz’s Deli now.

Press on, brother. It’s a battle I’ve been waging all of my life, at least the adult phase. Sometimes the battles are with kinfolk. Hell hath no fury like a Catholic converted.Wulp here is my little clarification of what I was saying above. There are a bazillion religions out there and more being created everyday.
Disclaimer:
I am a non-denominational heathen philistine saved by the unmerited unearned grace and mercy of God through Jesus Christ. Someone wants to argue with me about that statement of faith, my answer to them is talk to the hand. I can and have defended my faith. Will again.2nd Disclaimer:
I have absolutely no problem with any person’s “Christian religion“. I am blissfully ignorant about the various religions that call themselves “Chrisitian” and prefer to stay that way.3rd Disclaimer
Will I talk to anyone about my beliefs? Yup.I am of the opinion that when any person starts condemning say the Catholic Religion they are walking on grounds best left to the Father because ultimately they are judging the heart and relationship a group of people has with God. When they do that with an individual well now that person is getting real close on treading on grounds definitely known only to God. Who am I, as small in this world as I am, should make that determination?
The Bible tells me that we will know by their fruits what the heart of a man is. Frankly, I do not care for rotten apples of the self appointed heretic hunters.
thank you for indulging me

Rumor has it that Brainless Williams and Kool-aid drinking Krissy Matthews are going to karaoke to this song on the Nutjob Broadcasting Company’s Nightly News as a montage of Obumma campaign videos plays in the background.
They hope to put to rest the notion that they’re nothing but pure propagandists for King B.O. and his Marxist minions.

Regarding Christianity:
I’ve heard all my life that Mormons are not Christian. Two of the theologican arguments used against mormons being Christian go as follows:
(a) We don’t believe in Jesus because we believe in the necessity to do good works. We therefore reject Christ’s mercy and thus reject Christ.
(b) We don’t believe in only one God existing in the physical sense of the word “exitence” and therefore do not believe in the true God. If we do not believe in the true God then we are not Christians.
Growing up I readily knew how foolish it was to say Mormons are not Christians That there is theological differences I think should be a given. Of course Mormons have theological differences. Granted, some Mormon theology definitely clashes with many long-standing mainstream or traditional Christian theology; but the mere fact that a group makes itself independently identified from other groups should naturally indicate differences. That’s why we’re Mormons and non-Mormons are not Mormons.
Being classified as a Christian to me is simple. Do you believe in Jesus Christ as the Olny Begotten Son of God and as your personal Savior? Do you believe that it is Jesus that you should follow and strive to be like in all ways? Say yes and, well, you’re a Christian. Do Catholics say yes to these standards? Absolutely. Do Mormons? Also, absolutely. To try and nitpick theological differences of a specific group of people to “prove” or “show” they are not Christian is silly (“stupido” in Italian).
For the record, from my direct experience in life, those who are out to show Mormons are not Christian are equally hell-bent to show that Catholics are not Christian.
Stupidos.
