Nice opportunity for some alliteration there.
What are you people gonna do this weekend? Are you “Final FOUR!!!!11!!1!!” or “*yawn* they still have college basketball going on when it’s practically summer?”
Whatever the case, it’s a pretty big deal and we’re getting some use out of Reliant Stadium, which always helps.
VCU (whoever they are) all the way baby!
Update: I heard on the radio this morning that there was some kind of water pipe break near an equipment room at the stadium. Power is now out for much of the air conditioning and the stadium lights. Sounds to me like a transformer got flooded or something. They were working to get things back in shape for tonight.
If they can’t, I wonder how postponable something like this is. I can’t imagine all the logistics involved in that.

G’ April’s fool Day
From yesterday’s newsBudget Negotiators Reach Tentative Deal To Avert Government Shutdown
Sources say that budget negotiators on Capitol Hill have tentatively agreed on a deal that would involve at least $33 billion in spending cuts from this year’s budget. That’s $23 billion dollars more than Democrats have previously agreed to in short-term continuing resolutions, and $28 billion less than Republicans previously passed in the House.
Cut $33,000,000,000 hmm…. We are already in debt 14,000,000,000,000 and we are headed for a deficit in just 2011 of 1,200,000,000,000.
Let’s see isn’t that kind of like I’m $14,000 in debt on my credit card and headed to the shop for a $1,200 auto repair and I think that skipping my $3.30 taco breakfast is going to make a difference. Let’s try to be serious here…

Any operator of any “public” facility has any sensitive/emergency/back-up equipment in a basement or in a room lower than 10 feet above street level IN THIS TOWN, needs to have his head examined. After all, don’t we get floods/severe rainstorms/hurricanes almost every year in this town?? You would think that some reasonable planning would prevent some “issues” like the one above???

How safe is the Mexican border?
Federal Auditor: Border Patrol Can Stop Illegal Entries Along Only 129 Miles of 1,954-Mile Mexican Border
Thursday, March 31, 2011
By Terence P. Jeffrey(CNSNews.com) – Richard M. Stana, director of homeland security and justice issues at the Government Accountability Office (which is responsible for “auditing agency operations to determine whether federal funds are being spent efficiently and effectively”), told the Senate Homeland Security Committee yesterday that the federal government can actually prevent or stop illegal entries into the United States along only 129 miles of the 1,954 -mile-long U.S.-Mexico border.
That leaves 1,825 miles of the U.S.-Mexico border where the Border Patrol cannot prevent or stop an illegal entry.

EXCLUSIVE: Federal Agents Told to Reduce Border Arrests, Arizona Sheriff Says
By Jana Winter
Published April 01, 2011
FoxNews.comAn Arizona sheriff says U.S. Border Patrol officials have repeatedly told him they have been ordered to reduce — at times even stop — arrests of illegal immigrants caught trying to cross the U.S. border.
Cochise County Sheriff Larry Dever told FoxNews.com that a supervisor with the U.S. Border Patrol told him as recently as this month that the federal agency’s office on Arizona’s southern border was under orders to keep apprehension numbers down during specific reporting time periods.
My ears are blowing white hot steam.

Obama spoke about the need to convert from oil to renewable energy before the oil runs out.
I’m sick of hearing about it. By the time the United States of America runs out of oil it’ll be Greater Mexico’s problem.

#4 Isn’t positive movement on cutting the budget better than no movement? Reducing the debt, and cutting the budget is a long term issue. It won’t be solved this session or probably even this decade. The Democrats/Progressives have waged a war of incrementalism while the Republicans/Conservatives have denigrated any compromise. That is why we are where we are. Good leaders know that a little of what you want is better than none of what you want. And let’s face it, with the current make up of Congress, it is either compromise, or nothing passes. This all or nothing mantra I here from some on the right will lose elections in the short term and devastate the country in the long term.

This is a common tactic so that the terd-nozzles can claim that they are doing something about the problem; they say: “look the numbers of arrests are down so we must be doing a good job, right?” The facts prove that they are doing a worse job and are committing outright fraud. The Texas Education A—oles do the same thing by making the standardized tests easier and when the scores go up they pat themselves on the back and say ‘what a great job we did’. The level of fraud is appalling! If we, as Texans and Americans actually had an HONEST NEWS MEDIA these kinds of frauds would not succeed. When the occasional honest-ish reporter comes along like Wayne Dolcefino or John Stossell they get drummed out of “mainline news”.
We, as Texans and Americans, deserve much better. I guess that the only way that we will be able to start changing things is a steady complaint barrage at the advertisers that support the fraudulent “news” programs. -

#10 Moose: You are correct that compromise is necessary. The incrementalism of which you speak also describes the problem: We have been compromising with the terd-nozzle D’s in giving 1/2 of what they want and the pendulum keeps swinging to the commie-left. What really needs to happen is that the D’s get nothing of what they want and the R’s get 1/2 of what they want. In the past all the R’s got was table scraps at best.

#12 Pyro: My point still applies: if you do not protect your sensitive stuff from water, in this town, you are not paying attention. If you run fluid lines over sensitive equipment, that is by default negligent engineering/architecture. If you fail to design your facilities to handle the situation for when, not if, the feces make contact with the rotating occillator, you are negligent.

Good leaders know that a little of what you want is better than none of what you want.
I was pointing out that my creditor would not give me an extension for cutting out ONE taco, no matter how smug I felt that I had attacked my debt problem, any more than I can tell the government that I am going to give them a blessing for a completely insignificant budget adjustment, no matter how loudly they crow about it.
I stated last week that I am retired on a fixed income, but I would be willing to sacrifice for the good of the country, but I would not stand for politics as usual. Playing a shell game with me don’t cut it, I’ve been to 2 county fairs and a barn dance and if they try to minimize the problem I’ll shout from the rooftop to vote them out. Well, I’m up on the roof now.

if you do not protect your sensitive stuff from water
Common industrial practice is to either put transformers in a vault or on elevated base. That should have been in the specs, and if not done, should have been caught in a design review. I’m guessing inexperience and lazy supervision…………..

#15 – Don’t you know that as the deadline nears, our folks will cave, just to get something done, with the promise that they will get tough at the next deadline. Why our leaders aren’t up there raising cain and screaming about the debt, etc – because in all honesty, they don’t want to take the heat for doing something about it – let it be someone else’s fault. And then the Fed can continue to inflate, debt is paid back (actually just rolled over with interest added) with more worthless dollars, and the sheeple grip about the price of gas as they head out to the casinos or sports venues where they can escape the trials and tribulations of living in reality for a while.

THIS really goes way over the line. I am pretty sure that the voting rights act(s) clearly state that you may not draw legislative lines that prevent/minimize minority voting rights. It does not say that you have to draw districts that guarantee that a minority will be elected, as in SJL’s district. To draw a district in such a fashion that it guarantees a minority get elected is just as fraudulent as one that guarantees a honkey gets elected. The districts are supposed to be drawn without regard to color or class but be reasonably contiguous, uniform as possible and contain roughly the same number of voters. The Houston city council district that links Occupied Kingwood with Clear Lake City is an obvious outrage.

When asked to elaborate, the spokesman said: “While the seagulls were certainly a factor, the reindeer over Spain fell mainly due to the plane”

This all or nothing mantra I here from some on the right will lose elections in the short term and devastate the country in the long term. Here’s the problem with that attitude:
So here’s my basic problem: If you don’t have the guts to fight for possibly-unpopular and fairly trivial cuts now, why on earth should I believe you’re suddenly going to be filled with pizz and vinegar and fighting spirit tomorrow, especially when it comes to the untouchable, third-rail, middle-class welfare programs?
I think we have to fight on all of this and am really tired of feeling the fool because I bought into another “we promise we’ll do all this great stuff next year” claim. We’ve got big problems and the Republicans can’t even work on the little ones without peeing in thier pants ofr calling the people who point those problems out a lot of names.
The problem is spending and the certain destruction of our way of life if it continues. The problem is not getting Republicans elected. The problem is the Republicans we elect, and those that protect them once they have been elected and show themselves as having insufficient backbone to solve the problem. -

Update:
The pipe break and transformer failure appear to be coincidental. Water to the area has been shut off and the pipe should be repaired in a couple of hours. The transformer issue is more problematic. They are trying to reroute power away from “less essential” areas of the building (I assume offices, etc.) so they can power the AC & lights. -

Madison — A 26-year-old woman was charged Thursday with two felony counts and two misdemeanor counts accusing her of making email threats against Wisconsin lawmakers during the height of the battle over Gov. Scott Walker’s budget-repair bill.
Katherine R. Windels of Cross Plains was named in a criminal complaint filed in Dane County Circuit Court.
Why only 2 counts?? Shouldn’t she be charged for each and every one of the R’s that were targeted in her e-mail DEATH THREATS? Let’s hope that this ends the nonsense of how the R’s need to engage in “civil discourse” while the D’s can say what ever inflammatory thing they want. Once again the LSM has chosen sides and the hypocrisy is appalling.

The following is either a joke kit, April Fools joke, or yet another example that we all need to go Galt?
The Canadian Transportation Agency issued a directive Tuesday that would require the airline create a nut-free “buffer zone” around passengers who request special accommodation within 48 hours of their flight.
The directive is in line with a proposal tabled by Air Canada earlier this year in response to a complaint by two passengers with nut allergies.

I consider lib-terd-nozzles “nuts” as well and I am wissin sure that I am allergic to them as I can’t even be in the same room with them without thoughts of violence. Do you think I could get a “nut” exclusion zone as well?

I got up and moved dirt for a few hours.
Collected a few creepy-crawlies.
Watered my garden.
Took creepies over to sister, along with some oranges. Fed chickens, hugged bro-in-law, handed off oranges.
Came home.
Took shower.
Boiling eggs to put into my tuna fish sandwich. Sorry Hammy, but mayo will be part of the tuna fish.
Sat down to check business email, found out I have to go to the NW side of town to collect a check and then go apply for some water meters for a customer. This means I’ll have to delay some other items. And that’s been my morning.

A good woman is a man’s best friend.
She will Never stand him up and never let him down.
She will reassure him when he feels insecure and comfort him after a bad day.
She will inspire him to do things he never thought he could do; to live without fear and forget regret.
She will enable him to express his deepest emotions and give in to his most intimate desires.
She will make sure he always feels as though he’s the most handsome man in the room and will enable him to be the most confident, sexy, seductive and invincible……..No wait… Sorry.. I’m thinking of whiskey.
It’s whiskey that does all that.
Never mind. -

Here’s the thing with the spending and the Republicans.
We can see it with the way the Rainy Day Fund fight went (and to a lesser extent, the Joe Straus kerfluffle).
They say: “The country is in danger! We need Conservatives in office! Elect us and we’ll save you!”
We say: “Yes, we see the danger. We’ve seen it for a long time but youi never did anything about it.”
They say: “Those were the Republicans that lost the last election. We’ve got brand new Republicans now who are listening to you.
We say: “Very well then. We will help you, and because the danger is so great, we will become more active in the process. We wkill march and hold signs, we will man phone banks on the internet to support candidates in other states, we will send you money, we will tell all our freinds to vote for you.”
Them: “We thank you and honr you. You are a Great American. We’ve been waiting for you to become active in the Party. Together we can save the country.”
The election happens, and it is a victory of historic proportions. Not in 70 years has there been such a victory.
Us: “We have noticed that the last Speaker appointed many Committee chairs from the Party that you say is endangering the country, that issues popular not only with us but alo with a mjority of voters did not get passed, and that he has a personal interest in the gambling industry and has a conflict of interest in upcoming legislation.”
Them: “This is an internal Party issue, and we control the Party. besides, we’ve noticed that your tone is shrill and you use coarse language. The people in the media will not treat us right if you remain in the spotlight. You embarass us.”
Us: “We notice that we’re going to end the year with a deficit in the State budget. Its only $6 billion dollars, and you said we were in danger from over spending and would save us. Can we not spend that money?”
Them: “There you go embarassing us again. Besides, you’re uninformed. We’re supposed to spend that money in the Rainy Day Fund. We need to do it now so that we can go on to saving you some real money in the future.”
Us: “That doesn’t sound quite right. We’re getting a bit skeptical about your commitment here.”
Them: “THE LIBERALS ARE KEEPING US FROM PASSING THIS NEW BUDGET!!!!! THE MEDIA IS HOSTILE TO US!!!! WE NEED YOUR HELP TO PASS THIS BUDGET!!!! IF WE DON’T GET YOUR HELP, WE WON’T BE ABLE TO CUT SPENDING OR PREVENT INCREASES IN FEES AND ATXES!!!! WE MIGHT HAVE TO RAISE TAXES IF WE DON’T GET YOUR HELP.”

Update:
The transformer at Reliant is kaput, leaving them with insufficient capacity to run the AC (daytime game, warm temps) and the necessary lighting for tomorrow. Seems like they mighta shoulda designed the place with a little more excess capacity/redundancy. They’re talking about scouring the area for some BIG portable generators. That ought to make for a great image of a “world-class” city.

Not likely. Full auto is inherently inaccurate, bump fire about 100 times worse than that. Full auto is effective for supressive fire, but you have to be able to accurately concentrate it in a specific place. You can do it without such a device if you really needed to. Bumpfire is also dangerous. It requires one to hold the weapon loose enough to allow the weapon to move backwards under recoil leaving the trigger finger stationary thus disengaging semi-auto lock, and then forward until the finger engages the trigger once again and fires another round. This thing only simplifies the process. All this thing does is give you a light recoil weapon bouncing around on your shoulder sending a round downrange wherever the barrel happens to be pointing when the weapon bounces forward. Not an effective defensive or offensive weapon unless you’re alone—because everybody else around you with any sense at all will be standing waaaaaaaay behind you.

Well then, let me add:
Full auto is inherently inaccurate, but is the most fun you can have with your pants on. If you don’t care whether or not you hit anything, and if you can afford the prodigious amount of ammuntion required to fire bullets promiscuously (especially at current prices), then by all means go for it as I do recommend the experience. Just don’t buy this thing if you expect it to give you any advantage in actual combat.
Most fun weapon to fire on full auto:
You get pure .30-06 full auto awesomeness, but at 500 rounds per minute, a 20 round magazine gives you a pretty short ride.

At least in this case, there was a public outcry over an injustice that caused the death of a 14 year-old girl in Bangladesh.Hena Akhter’s last words to her mother proclaimed her innocence. But it was too late to save the 14-year-old girl.
Her fellow villagers in Bangladesh’s Shariatpur district had already passed harsh judgment on her. Guilty, they said, of having an affair with a married man. The imam from the local mosque ordered the fatwa, or religious ruling, and the punishment: 101 lashes delivered swiftly, deliberately in public.
Hena dropped after 70.
The villagers may have been a backward rabble, incapable of joining human society, but her parents refused to let that stop them from getting the truth out.
Amazingly, an initial autopsy report cited no injuries and deemed her death a suicide. Hena’s family insisted her body be exhumed. They wanted the world to know what really happened to their daughter.
The “coroner” needs an autopsy performed on himself.
Khan eyed Hena and began harassing her on her way to school and back, said Hena’s father. He complained to the elders who run the village about his nephew, three times Hena’s age.
Dude’s a real pervert. He’s 45, she’s 14.
Many months later on a winter night, as Hena’s sister Alya told it, Hena was walking from her room to an outdoor toilet when Mahbub Khan gagged her with cloth, forced her behind nearby shrubbery and beat and raped her.
Hena struggled to escape, Alya told CNN. Mahbub Khan’s wife heard Hena’s muffled screams and when she found Hena with her husband, she dragged the teenage girl back to her hut, beat her and trampled her on the floor.
The next day, the village elders met to discuss the case at Mahbub Khan’s house, Alya said. The imam pronounced his fatwa. Khan and Hena were found guilty of an illicit relationship. Her punishment under sharia or Islamic law was 101 lashes; his 201.
Mahbub Khan managed to escape after the first few lashes.
Pervert rapes young girl who was minding her own business. Pervert’s wife beats the victim instead of her pervert husband. Imam blames her for asking for it? A real boy scout must have tied the pervert’s knots.
Last month, the court asked the government to explain what it had done to stop extrajudicial penalty based on fatwa. It ordered the dissemination of information to all mosques and madrassas, or religious schools, that sharia is illegal in Bangladesh.
Maybe there is some hope for the future. At least they’re trying to go in the right direction, asopposed to several Western nations.
Monday, the doctors responsible for Hena’s first autopsy faced prosecution for what a court called a “false post-mortem report to hide the real cause of Hena’s death.”
Good start.
Public outrage sparked by that autopsy report prompted the high court to order the exhumation of Hena’s body in February. A second autopsy performed at Dhaka Medical College Hospital revealed Hena had died of internal bleeding and her body bore the marks of severe injuries.
Police are now conducting an investigation and have arrested several people, including Mahbub Khan, in connection with Hena’s death.
Better.
Better still would be for the “coroner” and whoever else was involved in the autopsy, the imam who issued the fatwa, the village elders, and of course the pervert and his lovely wife to all be locked up in the worst hellhole of a prison they can find. For life.

The only people responsible for murdering those people are the ones who did it (and maybe those who convinced them it was ok to do so). We are each ultimately responsible for our own actions. Saying they hacked eight people’s heads off because some idiot in Hamousistan burned a book is flat wrong. They did what they did because they wanted and chose to.

Sorry. When the commander of troops tells you that soldiersm will die if you burn a book, and then you go ahead and burn the book, you’re just as much at fault as them that did the killing.
Unless you can tell me the over riding National Interest that was served, or how it increased our chances of victory, I’m going to call Terry jones one heartless bastidge who values publicity more than he does the lives of American boys.
You go ahead and call him a hero if you like.

The only people responsible for murdering those people are the ones who did it (and maybe those who convinced them it was ok to do so). We are each ultimately responsible for our own actions. Saying they hacked eight people’s heads off because some idiot in Hamousistan burned a book is flat wrong.
They did what they did because they wanted and chose to.Sorry.
I’ll salute the flags on the coffins. -

Better still would be for the “coroner” and whoever else was involved in the autopsy, the imam who issued the fatwa, the village elders, and of course the pervert and his lovely wife to all be locked up in the worst hellhole of a prison they can find. For life.
I think that a “little hair of the dog” would be most appropriate here: the victim died after 70 lashes so obviously 70 is too many – but 69 should be just about right. After the hair of the dog punishment THEN lock the miscreants in the rat-terd motel for life.

TT: Saturday the 16th. Wow. LD’s getting married already. (((HUGS)))
I don’t see anything wrong with this photo. What’s the big wissin’ deal? Oh, and that “stuff” in the back of my truck? It’s going to be a chicken coop. Oh, joy. I had informed the girls that any baby chick that grows up and becomes a rooster will be eaten. They know that I’m not joking. I hate roosters. I was sooooo heartbroken when the rooster 1/4mi. down the road had gotten eaten by coyotes……

Some scumsucker tried to “hire” my daughter as a “personal assistant” since she’s been looking for a job. I have a sister who works for a family, but it is a private family business. Lovely did the right thing by asking for documentation as to who this person is, verification of some kind of company name, SOMETHING to let her know he’s legit. She got emails from iffy IP addresses (Aggie Beau checked ’em out), no documentation that was worthwhile, and LD tried to tell him that she wasn’t interested. He insisted, and said that he already sent her first assignment. It seems that she’s supposed to take the delivery (arrived this morning by UPS), take $100 for “gas and her time” and send the rest of the money to someone else via Western Union.
We’ll be taking the unopened envelope and the emails that she’s printed out to the police in the morning.

Where did I ever call him a “hero”? Here’s what I just said:
some idiot in Hamousistan burned a book
So unless you speak some strange dialect of English where “idiot” = “hero”, I have no idea what you’re talking about.
People are responsible for their own actions. The idiot in Hamousistan is responsible for what he did, which includes incitement. BUT that does not remove even the slightest, most infinitesimal bit of culpability for those idiots who hacked off eight people’s heads.

I had informed the girls that any baby chick that grows up and becomes a rooster will be eaten. They know that I’m not joking. I hate roosters. I was sooooo heartbroken when the rooster 1/4mi. down the road had gotten eaten by coyotes……
My sister who has chickens has one rooster, Sylvester. He does a good job of protecting his hens. Too good. My bro-in-law has already told sis that if they get a rooster out of the batch of chicks they just hatched, Sylvester’s gonna get “disappeared”. BIL and Sylvester just don’t get along. The one day I ventured into the coop to feed them and collect eggs for her while she was taking care of BIL, Sylvester tried to surprise attack me. She has a stick that she keeps by the door, and I had whacked him a couple of times on the way into the coop. I had closed the coop door behind me while I collected the eggs, and stood there for the longest time trying to figure out how to carry the eggs and protect myself on the way out. I finally figured out how to hold everything, kicked the door wide open, and ventured out to do battle with Sylvester. Sure enough, he came at me, but he was focused on the end of the stick. (Never said chickens were smart, did I?) He kept looking at the stick end, attacking it, while I backed out to the gate and escaped without getting spurred.
The strength of that rooster surprised me. It was all I could do to keep the stick from getting knocked out of my hand. I feel sorry for any varmint that entered that run. As big, strong, territorial, and well-spurred as that bird is, anything coming into that run after the eggs or the hens is in for a rude surprise.

Nope. He is responsible for his actions (including incitement) alone. He did not kill anyone. A bunch of medieval savages did.
He is guilty of Depraved Indifference, and should be prosecuted.
To constitute depraved indifference, the defendant’s conduct must be ‘so wanton, so deficient in a moral sense of concern, so lacking in regard for the life or lives of others, and so blameworthy as to warrant the same criminal liability as that which the law imposes upon a person who intentionally causes a crime. Depraved indifference focuses on the risk created by the defendant’s conduct, not the injuries actually resulting.
KABUL — The US commander of the Afghan war warned Tuesday that a decision by American evangelicals to burn the Koran on 9/11 would endanger his troops as the Muslim world reacted angrily to the plan.
General David Petraeus said the planned torching of Islam’s holy book by a Florida church would be a propaganda coup for the Taliban in Afghanistan and stoke anti-US sentiment across the Muslim world.
Protests have already gone ahead in the capital Kabul and in Indonesia — the world’s largest Muslim-majority country — while Iran has warned that the burning could unleash an uncontrolled Muslim response.
I want to know why Terry Jones thought burning a book was more important than the lives that would be lost when he did it.

The hypocrisy of the moooooslim mindset is appalling! For example: Hamas/hizbollah-terds lob missile after mortar after rocket, unguided into populated CIVILIAN AREAS. Israel, after eating 20 or 30 of said missiles responds by launching an airstrike at the site of the launching. The mooooslims, who intentionally launched from a school or mosque or heavily civilian populated area, then find/kill innocents and blame Israel for their deaths and the willing accomplices in the LSM just lap it up. The moooslims who instigated the trouble in the first place are the ones guilty of depraved indifference. The proportionality of burning inanimate books vs. killing/decapitating humans is more than just a little off. Think about it for just a moment, the mooooslim people can be driven to a murderous rage by burning a book and we are supposed to treat them with the same kind of deference and respect that we would treat someone else (of a different faith) who was from Canada perhaps? Can you think of even one other group who would kill INNOCENT PEOPLE for a similar offence? Do you think the mooooslims would be anywhere as charitable towards you as you are to them?

Let me turn the tables on you.We can agree that Koran burning can be considered flagrant. What about other forms of protest? What if merely leaving a Koran out inthe rain would set them off? What about a protest march where people say mohammed is something other than an upstanding citizen? A protest where you say unkind things about Islam?
What if any of the above causes them to go nuts? Where is your line?

Each time we give up the intellectual ground of Koran Burning as a legitimate excuse for the murder of those who had nothing to do with said burning it is the intellectual equivalent of the ‘land for peace false bargain’ that we have been pressuring Israel over. Each and every time Israel gives up something the violence gets worse. Each time you make excuses for cold blooded murder, you invite more of it. What should happen is to take out a few of their big mukety mucks proven terrorists and when they have the big screaming funeral then carpet bomb them while they are all gathered into one place. To treat them as you expect to be treated is suicidal. -

I don’t feel a need to burn a Koran to show my distaste for those medieval savages who hack off the heads of people who were merely living their lives. Likewise, I am not willing to give up my right to free speech (as well as any others) simply to avoid sending some illiterate goat molester over the edge.
Further to my 105 above, many of these savages are simply pi$$ed off about our society in general. They want to kill Jews and any others who do not choose to believe that their pedophile “prophet” is some messenger from God. Given that this animates them in a similar manner to burning a book, are you willing to change our society to conform to their desired state so they might stop killing people?
Don’t take this the wrong way, but that’s exactly why we have a military – so a bunch of illiterate savage medieval goat molesters or the Great Red Stain or the Yellow Hordes will not be able to dictate to any of us how we should live.
Just like poverty is no excuse for an urban yoot here to go around killing people, burning a book of lies is no excuse for a muslim savage to hack someone’s head off.

Sarge,
We went through something similar a number of years ago when there were people in the US burning our flag. conservatives like me (and probably you) were outraged, but we accepted the courts ruling that this was part of the whole “free speech” thing. To the best of my knowledge nobody got hacked to pieces because they burned a flag.
Why?
Because we’re rational, civilized, coherent, human beings instead of cowardly, rabid barbarians.
Was the guy that burned the Koran out of line. Probably. But he did do us the favor of once again highlighting the difference between us and our enemies. Too many people seem to forget too easily.
As a side note, I have yet to see, hear of, or read a single word of apology or condemnation from any Muslim for this barbaric crime.

If this means you are willing to concede that Terry Jones was just as wrong—flagrantly so—as the people who killed, then I am satisfied that I have made my point, but to be clear it is this:
There are certain actions that non-combatants half a world away can take that will result in the death of or danger to American soldiers. This is one specifically that General Petreaus identified. I know that the Secretary of Defense called Terry Jones personally and told him what would happen, and asked him not to. He went ahead and did it anyway.
That is all I’m talking about here.
None of the other things you talk about there are inherently wrong and should not “set them off.” But Terry Jones launched a weeks long media campaign (and I hold the media nearly as complicit in this as he) to make absolutely certain that these people would know what he was about to do, and know that he had done it. It was done willfully and with full knowledge of the consequences. He did it anyway.
If we can’t see the immorality of the actions Terry Jones took, or make excuses for him (or for the war criminals in the Balkans 20 years ago), then I fear we have lost our way and we are becoming like them.

You are amazingly close to that putred edge, Sarge.I mention no “root causes.” We were attacked and 3000 people died as I watched on TV. The actions of a previous President who made us look like “the weak horse” is the only root cause to which I ascribe. That is different from cautioning people to be cognizant of the fact that what we do and say might get a soldier killed. That is not conjecture. Terry Jones just proved it can happen.
But to ignore the victims while you excoriate the universally condemned idiot…..
There’s no logic here.I did not ignore the victims. Scroll up and re-read and you will see that all I have done is say that Terry Jones is just as guilty as those that did the killing. This does not absolve the killers of any guilt, it merely adds one more guilty party to the episode. That anyone would not notice that or accuse me of anything other than that is worrisome.
Was the guy that burned the Koran out of line. Probably. But he did do us the favor of once again highlighting the difference between us and our enemies. Too many people seem to forget too easily.
He did us a favor? Did he tell us anything we didn’t already know? Was any truth revealed by him worth the life of a soldier?

We can agree that Koran burning can be considered flagrant. What about other forms of protest? What if merely leaving a Koran out inthe rain would set them off? What about a protest march where people say mohammed is something other than an upstanding citizen? A protest where you say unkind things about Islam?
What if any of the above causes them to go nuts? Where is your line?If this means you are willing to concede that Terry Jones was just as wrong—flagrantly so—as the people who killed, then I am satisfied that I have made my point, but to be clear it is this:
If we can’t see the immorality of the actions Terry Jones took, or make excuses for him (or for the war criminals in the Balkans 20 years ago), then I fear we have lost our way and we are becoming like them.103 Shannon says:

I remember months and months of putred whining about “root causes” following 9/11.

Sigh
Not likely. Full auto is inherently inaccurate, bump fire about 100 times worse than that
and that depends on whio is pulling the trigger,
I’m just as concerned that Terry Jones showed no concern for the fate of the soldiers serving over there justy so he could prove a point. Soldiers will die now because the TV cameras stopped showing up at his door.
And this is pure bovine processed hay. Soldiers are going to die because we are in a war. Terry Jones is an idiot but what he did has no more bearing on the amount of hate generated than you and I freely passing gas in our beds. Those people hate us. Jones is nothing more than a reason for them to feign public outrage. Had it not been Jones it would be something else. Trying to attribute more deaths to Jones is a ludicrous proposition.

Herman Cain/Allen West
I like what little I have heard when Herman Cain sub’s on Neal Boortz radio show. But as I said West is newly elected — Cain has no political background at all. I hear what you say about “not politicians” but in reality I think you have to have some experience in some office to be a serious contender for the presidency.
Regarding the last 3 presidents, I think GW’s indulgences were behind him by the time he ran for Texas gov. He did some bonehead stuff during his 8 years, but I would not compare him to Clinton or Obama.

Bullshit. Terry Jones (allegedly) burned a collection of bound pieces of paper. However wrong that was it pales in comparison to bloody savages sawing the heads off innocent people. Good Lord, how can you even equate the two?
careful – we’re trying to keep this a family-oriented blog 😉

The tactics used in Afghanistan call for the soldier to live among the people and gain thier confidence so as to understands that we are there to protect them and represent non threat to thier religion.
Any success they have towards that end is erased when people like Jones do the things he did. if it were all as fatlistic as that, or if there were no hope in the exercise, if we were not having success towards that end, neither Petreaus nor Gates would have pleaded with Jones not to do what he did.
I’ve said before: I beleive the men in command and those that advise them because they do so with the knowledge that if they get it wrong, more men will die than need to.
Terry Jones was told by a Commander in the field that his actions would result in harm to American soldiers. The Commander’s superior called him personally and said the same thing.
I don’t think these men are beknighted fools who have been fooled by Islam or don’t appreciate its dangers.
Terry Jones committed an immoral act that will bring harm to American Soldiers.
I know this because their Commanders said so and tried to stop it. Its not merely my opinion.

Which more than emphasizes the point that we don’t need to give them something as egergious as burning their holy book in public—especially when the Commander of the troops asked you not to and told you why.
You’re having an easy time telling me I’m wrong.
But I share the opinion of the General and Secretary of Defense who has already beaten extremist muslims in one war, and fighting them in another.
Can you tell me why they are wrong?

Just ask yourself this question, and answer it honestly:
Would you have done the same thing that Terry Jones did after Petreaus and Gates called you and asked you not to because it would endanger American Soldiers?
I’m pretty sure everybody will come up with the same answer i have, and for the same reason.

Dear citizens of Amerika. This is Commander Flagg. We need you to take your hat off when you say the word Muslim. From here in in when you say Mohammed you need to add the phrase Allah Bless him. This will show the radical Muslims that we mean them no harm.
Ladies when you next go to Walmart consider getting a scarf to cover your head with. This will show the ladies in Afghanistan that you are aware of there plight and you can more readily identify with them. Burkas at this time are optional, should violence escalate against our troops we may require them as standard dress here in the States.
Whatever you do DO NOT roughly handle a Koran. If you think you might drop the book for gosh sakes do not touch it.
Thank you for your attention in this matter.

So sarge – where do you draw the line? Perhaps burning a koran after yapping about it for a couple of weeks is a skosh over the line. Surely we can say “We don’t want sharia here” in a protest?
The line must be in there somewhere, but where?
At what point are the medieval savage goat molesters responsible for their own actions (at what point are we absolved of the guilt for causing some whackjob to hack some innocent person’s head off?)?
I just want to know so I can decide what I need to go to Confession for.

In the meantime, Mario Loyola, a visiting fellow at the Foundation for the Defense of Democracies explains the coming insurgency in Libya I mentioned a couple of days ago:
The beginnings of Libya’s slide into a chaotic insurgency are plain to see in the tactics Qaddafi’s forces have adopted: They now dress like the rebels and drive around in “technicals” (armed pickup trucks) rather than tanks. In a classic example of asymmetric strategy, Qaddafi has stopped presenting the West with its preferred targets: warplanes, military vehicles, and identifiable installations. His forces are melting into the urban landscape, and it will not take them long to start appearing well behind rebel lines.
Obama’s strategy of diplomacy backed by air power is stripping the Qaddafi regime of the attributes of a functioning state. But those policies pose little threat to the regime’s tribalistic and terroristic core.
And it seems he sees the same thing I have:
The Obama administration’s immediate objective may be to achieve a de facto stalemate on the ground. But such a stalemate would be highly volatile — and dangerous for everybody. Qaddafi would resort to terrorist and insurgent tactics, against which a “no boots on the ground” strategy will be totally ineffective, and which could claim thousands of lives. The remains of his military and intelligence assets could evolve into a powerful terrorist network of global reach. And one thing we know for sure is that we’ve earned ourselves a bitter enemy. As soon as he feels safe, Qaddafi will turn on his Western tormentors.

How about we see who gets all bent out of shape when we tell them to pound sand and figure out who is truly inciting them and funding that effort and turn them into pink mist?A couple of years ago, some cartoonists drew some cartoons of the pederast “prophet” and you’d have thought the cartoonists were actually (not threatening to or actually) taking away the food, water, children, and goats from the entire muslim world. Who actually incited them? Keep in mind the significant time lag between the actual drawings being published and the riots starting – four weeks. Some imam or group of clerics decided they could get some mileage out of these drawings, so they go out into the barnyard, separate the men from their goats, and tell them how badly they should get riled up. So all these goat molesters, who can’t even read Arabic for Pete’s sake, get wound up because some crackpot imam tells them to.
Who is responsible now? The cartoonists, who are merely exercising their right to free speech, the imam who tells them to go all ape-[poo] over drawings, or the actual mob members?
In this example, the imams need to become a pink fog and the mob needs to be fire-hosed.
I am sick and tired of all the whiny-a$$ed weenies telling me how sensitive I need to be to a mob of uncivilized nuts and how I should defer to their 10th century worldview. I say they (the weenies, the islamic nuts) need to put on some big-girl panties and deal with it.

Petreaus is not retired. He is actively engaged in commanding the troops he attempted to protect by talking to Jones. Retired Generals give us advice all the time. You can go to any Barnes and Noble and pick up some of thier books, that’s generally how they give it. (Schwarzkopf had some advice on interaction with Muslim countries in a military endeavor in his autobiography, long before Osma Bin Laden quit the cement buisness). Other times, they write papers for think tanks and/or Intelligence and Military agencies. I take thier advice seriously. They are veru careful about the adice and consent they give, because they are cognizant that lives hang in the balance. That is why I give them as much credence as I do.

I would not follow any commander that thought it necessary to “plea” with a single individual not to do something. I cannot recall any commanding officer in any war ever going to the American People doing what those two Generals did.
“Oh please Mr. and Mrs. Amerika don’t say anything bad about the Japanese. They might torture our people more than they already are.”
Their actions showed weakness in the face of the enemy.

We are sending two generals to a civilian puke bubble to talk him into not being a puke bubble.
We’ll even make them blow snot bubbles if that’ll help.
Now that really projects an aura of strength in a part of the world where people tend to back the strong horse.

The hay never shut up his pie hole
Do you feed your horses pie? 🙂
But seriously, what do your horses eat? Is hay the only thing that horses like? Along with an occasional apple or carrot, or so I’ve heard?

You gotta be careful what you feed them. What they eat can affect the flavor their lard imparts upon the pommes frites. -

Regarding the “mooooslim thing”: I strongly suggest that everyone read DEVIL’S GUARD by George Robert Elford. The mooooslims in the middle east seem to be behaving very much like the viet minh of indochina during the late 1940’s thru 50’s. This is the autobiography of a member of the SS Nazi Brigade of the French Foreign Legion. It is a fascinating read and gives a whole new perspective of the SS. The communists worship the state, the state controls every aspect of the individuals life, all other forms of government must be wiped out and all intelligent or educated/successful people must be killed, the use of civilian human shields is perfectly acceptable. The moooooooslims worship the pedophile lying murder, islam controls every aspect of the individuals life and no other forms of being are acceptable all others must be converted or killed, the use of civilian human shields is perfectly acceptable . Both systems are straight from the pit of hell.

This is the United States of America and I do not recall, in our modern history, any military officer presuming to boss around civilians stateside as to what was acceptable behavior. I cannot imagine my grandfather cowering from some general in Europe during WWII tellling him what he could say or not say regarding any member of the Axis alliance.
I refuse, as an American citizen, to even acknowledge the stupid and ridiculous admonitions of people like Bob Gates, David Petraeus or Barack Obama. They can all ride to hell in a little pink, fluffy basket for all I care.
Furthermore, were I a fighting man in Afghanistan or Iraq, I would expect no less from my fellow Americans in attitude or stance. I would not be risking my life in those places expecting Americans in my hometown to be backing down from any right to insult, refute or burn any manifestation of any ideology they might find disagreeable.
Anything less would be an insult to my sacrifice. Anything less would be an insult to my honor.
Anything less would be capitulating to the men without chests, the feeble and frightened, the foolish and fearful – not the fearless and bold people I would be giving my life to protect.

So much for:
The land of the free and the home of the brave.
Crap like this is NOT what I fought for during my time in service. The actions of those two Generals for whatever reasoning displayed cowardice in the face of the enemy. There actions was nothing more than a display of political correctness run to its logical end, direct intervention of the government.
/I gotta stop. I am getting angrier the more I think about this.

Want me to shut your pie-hole, Mr. Man? /loads gun and sharpens filet knives….
Ms. Harper: Feed, hay and treats. Nobody rides for free is how my horses roll….. They also think that carrots are over-rated. They prefer watermelon instead….

3142 Sarge:
Don’t burn a book after the General Commanding the troops and the Secretary of Defense asks you not to because it will harm thier troops.
Dude, you need to seriously wake up and smell reality. Burning a book DID NOT cause troops to die. They were 10,000 miles and 2 weeks away from that book. The cause of those soldiers (and civilians) deaths was a horde of fanatical savages calling themselves Muslims. They were the ONLY cause. If you claim anything differently you are simply giving them an excuse and justifying their actions.

Thanks, Fat Albert, for reminding me of that nauseating little comment.

How about “Don’t burn a book after the General Commanding the troops and the Secretary of Defense asks you not to because it will harm thier troops.”
What world do you actually live in, Sarge ? Are you completely f***ing crazy ? Do you sit around every morning waiting for the DoD to send you orders ? Uh, you actually expect Americans to take orders from the SecDef or a CentCom general ? Are you kidding me ?
Do you just read comic books in your spare time ?
Where is the big, badass “I’m gonna kick everybody’s ass in DC and Austin and show ’em how it’s done, by G-d” kinda guy ? You know, the one that knows more about conservative politics than everyone else ?
You Hoo, where are yoooou ?
And now who’s trivialising things?
Oh, please stop, the irony is killing me here.

While it’s on my mind Sarge, which do you think is the more likely scenario:
1. A whole bunch of nice muslims guys are sitting around one afternoon after a day hard at work in the poppy fields talking about world events when one guy mentions that some stupid turd in the US burned a Koran. All of the sudden the crowd rises up in a fit of righteous indignation and storms of to vent its wrath on some hapless UN folks.
2. Some evil imam decides he needs to make a statement and gets offended because the UN is actually doing something that might cause the people to think more fondly of westerners. So, he looks for an excuse to harangue and whip his congregation into a murderous rage. He has a lot of choices – remember, these are folks who can blame a raped girl for being too attractive – but this time he settles on some nut who burned a Koran a couple of weeks ago. So, he preaches a 3 hour long sermon and sure enough he gets his angry mob. He sends them off to pillage and murder and sits back in satisfaction, knowing that he’s done his job.
Pick you scenario. Personally I’m gonna go with #2.

Watching a story about Jones and what happened in Afghanistan. Seems to me Jones proved his point. Ain’t it odd “they” killed people and all he did was burn a book and he is the bad guy. Yup that is right he made them do it.
Is not Kharzi not culpable? He is the one that just had to condemn the action on public radiot in Afghanistan. Could he not have just kept the Jones story to himself in Afghanistan? And why didn’t the Generals go see him and ask him not to publically condemn Jones’ actions?

These fanatics blow each other’s mosques up all the time and they worship the same child molester. Give me a freakin’ break. The koran isn’t sacred to them. The fact that some other fanatic a half a world away burns some paper is merely a convenient excuse to do what they do.

None of it matters except what the guy pinned down by sniper fire in Helmand Province thinks, lying in a ditch, praying the air cover shows up before any more of his guys get picked off, hoping the JAG officers back in DC decide it’s okay to clear the ROE so the A10 gunners can save their lives.
He may be bleeding to death out there in the dirt while trying to save his men at that moment, but he didn’t make that vital commitment just so his family, friends and neighbors at home would be afraid to think or say whatever they wanted about Islam or the Koran, Christianity, Judaism, Buddhism or any other religion.
It doesn’t come down to glory; it comes down to guts.
And guts, of our fighting men and the common American citizen, is what we are talking about here.

If the Muslims really cared about Jones burning their book to the extent they rioted in Afghanistan, they would have killed him by now. This was nothing more than an excuse to have a riot and be the murdering bastards they are in public.
