How bout the shuttles going to:
Smithsonian Flight Museum
Cape Kennedy
Edwards AF Base
Nasa Clear Lake
I realize there are many places that had a big hand in the program but these are the ones most associated with it (except for the Smithsonian, but it should automatically get one)
Just my opinion as an outsider.

Read on some news site this morning where NATO is forming a committee to guide the Libyan offensive. It would have members from countries all over the world and have a rotating chair.
Committee;def.: A multilegged life form with no brain.

Jimmah flew to Cuba to obtain the release of a U.S. contractor jailed for setting up an illegal website. The end time has gotta be near
Lindsay Lohan’s sober, the French are winning a war and Jimmy Carter’s getting hostages released.

Well I guess the little feller has passed away.
NASA: Mars rover, phone home after year-long sleep.
Despite the dismal outlook, NASA will make a last-ditch effort to communicate with Spirit, which fell silent a little over a year ago. If there’s still no contact in the next month or so, the space agency will scale back its listening campaign for Spirit and focus on its healthy twin, Opportunity.
What’s amazing is that these guys have lasted way past their 3 month service life, they landed on Mars in 2004.

Take the last two digits of the year you were born and add the age you will be on your birthday this year (if it hasn’t already happened.)
This answer is 111.

Think Yellow Hair might like one for her 27th birthday?

Just think – if Houston were to get one of the space shuttles they could house it in the Astrodome (I seem to remember somewhere when the decision to rename the Colt 45’s the Astros was to be short for “astronauts”) and Houston was known as Space City, but you know that Dear Leader is doing everything he can to eliminate any government funds of any kind being returned to Texas since he knows he won’t get anyone other than SJL and maybe Gene Green to vote for him down here. And besides, the Obama girls will be needing a new doll house, and what better than an old space shuttle to serve that purpose. if I’m not mistaken, Rice University gets to reclaim the NASA property if NASA decides to fold or leave which was a condition of the initial gift of the site from Rice to NASA. That could prove interesting – maybe the Rice president could sell it and build two creperies instead of just the one he is building with the $10 million the U of H paid for Rice’s radio station. And you make fun of the City of Houston trying to act “world class.”
Anyway, I wouldn’t count on the Obama administration doing Houston any favors.

Apparently the limp spine Republican leadership in DC is courting moderate Dems to join the effort to pass some penny ante spending cuts rather than addressing the Tea Party types who are demanding real spending reduction. The battle for a return to sanity in government is obviously not over yet.

I remember a similar story some years ago about a woman who had fused with her couch. I think her limit before calling for help was six years.
She also had entities who were still individually identifiable and mobile tending to her as well.
What is WITH these people?

Having rental properties and having friends with rental properties, one does get to be exposed to a lot of freaky human nature. A friend had a tenant who would not throw away newspapers and magazines. From what I heard, if you walked into his apartment, there was a pathway from the door to the kitchen, then to the bedroom and bathroom. The maze was created by piles of old papers and magazines. Wine bottles lined the baseboard, up to and around the countertop, back down to the floor, and into the rooms along the baseboard. One chair in the kitchen was used, and that was known because there was one edge of the chair that was not dusty, which was where he sat to eat.
When he either died or left (I can’t remember what happened first), that place was a pain in the wiss to clean out.

One would think that the smell would render the place unfit after the first pooping and they would want to do something about it. That they chose to leave him in his own filth for 2 wissin years, stench and all AND CONTINUE TO BRING HIM FOOD AND DRINK is bizarre to say the least.

After reviewing the thread yesterday about the welfare/dope test issue, I have come to the following conclusions:
1) Anyone who is on public assistance of any form (one who is receiving my tax dollars, excluding earned Social Security benefits) and is using drugs, alcohol, tobacco, owns high priced electronics, etc has their priorities completely wissed up.
2) Public assistance is for FOOD CLOTHING AND SHELTER ONLY.
3) If you have money for items in #1 you do not need public assistance.
4) That Bob420 can’t understand this is indicative that he is in need of professional help.

Bob sees welfare recipients the same way all Liberals do:
A source of votes.
In this case, ther’s a double whammy. If you test for drugs, you get less people on welfare, thus fewer people to vote for Democrats. If you test for drugs and it causes some folks to get off drugs and stay on wlefare, you lose votes for legalizing pot.
That’s why there’s no problem when you point out that if you don’t test for drugs, hungry kids get to watch daddy suck on a bong instead of getting supper.
They just become collateral damage in a quest for a bigger cause.

On the other end of the spectrum, we have a Republican with actual testicular fortitude who deosn’t beg us to accept excuses or applaud half measures as being “unorthodox” because “the job is hard” and we have to “keep the real goal in mind.”
We’re therefore at a defining moment in American history. In a few weeks, we will once again reach our legal limit for borrowing, the so-called debt ceiling. The president and others want to raise this limit. They say it is the mature, responsible thing to do.
In fact, it’s nothing more than putting off the tough decisions until after the next election. We cannot afford to continue waiting. This may be our last chance to force Washington to tackle the central economic issue of our time.
“Raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure.” So said then-Sen. Obama in 2006, when he voted against raising the debt ceiling by less than $800 billion to a new limit of $8.965 trillion. As America’s debt now approaches its current $14.29 trillion limit, we are witnessing leadership failure of epic proportions.
I will vote to defeat an increase in the debt limit unless it is the last one we ever authorize and is accompanied by a plan for fundamental tax reform, an overhaul of our regulatory structure, a cut to discretionary spending, a balanced-budget amendment, and reforms to save Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid.

Sen John Kyl tells it like it is at a hearing of the Senate subcommittee on the Constitution, Civil Rights and Human Rights, which is part of the Senate Judiciary Committee.
The hearing, scheduled by Dick (Turban) Durbin, was to investigate Muslim civil rights and is intended to show that most Muslim Americans “are patriotic, law abiding people who simply want to live their life as we do” according to Sen Turban. Sen Kyl wanted to take the investigation in a slightly different direction:
“I’m a bit perplexed by the focus” of the hearing, Kyl said, in light of the fact that most religious hate crimes in the United States are committed against Jews.
.
“The point is, all bigotry is to be condemned,” Kyl said. “Selective indignation is not helpful.”
According to FBI statistics, Jews are victims of hate crimes almost three times as often as everyone else combined.
Farhana Khera, the executive director of the group Muslim Advocates, testified in today’s hearing that “in the last several months, anti-Muslim rhetoric has reached a disturbing new level.” He said political leaders have jumped into the fray with sweeping, critical statements about Islam.
.
Kyl defended the hearing over Muslim radicalization today, saying, “Political correctness cannot stand in the way of identifying those who would do us harm.” He questioned whether Khera’s organization was committed to helping root out extremist elements of Islam, given that its website advises Muslims to consult a lawyer before speaking with the FBI about violent extremism.
.
“I would think Muslim Americans would feel a special obligation to help in such investigations,” Kyl said.
So would most others. If I knew of a group who was planning some sort of “extremist” activity, I’d go talk to the FBI. I doubt I’d even think about a lawyer.
Oh – “rhetoric has reached a disturbing new level”? Boo-hoo. Big pansy.

#26, et al – Last summer, the Rice administration secretly agreed to sell the student founded and run radio station, KTRU, to University of Houston for around $10 million. It’s a long story, but historically Rice does not make major decisions without at least soliciting input from all interested parties, including students, faculty, alumni, donors, friends, etc., but not so in this case. The administration contends that it needed the money to enhance a new food preparation facility of some kind – presumably adding the capacity to make crepes. Now Rice has been stuck in the lower half of the top 25 universities in the country, as compiled by U. S. News and World Report, for some time now and is desirous of moving up on the list. I presume that someone over there did the calculus and determined that getting rid of a radio station and adding a crepery would somehow enhance their standing in media. Here’s one of several articles on the subject.

President Assad of Syria sez the problems in his country are caused by “conspirators”. Left unsaid was whether they were part of a vast right-wing one.
The people were not impressed and are calling for mass protests.
Obama is voting “present”. Besides, Assad is seen as a “reformer” according to the State Department.

– houses cannot be seen
– roofs are collapsing
– the “drought is officially over”
– almost sixty feet of snow in some areas this season
– some people are having to tunnel to get between buildings
– Ski areas are extending their seasons; Mammoth possibly to INDEPENDENCE DAY!
– Al Gore is a big, fat liar
Well, the last line is just implied.

I just got done instant messaging with a co-worker who was concerned because he received an email from AT&T stating that in May, they will begin charging an extra $10 if you repeatedly exceed 250GB of internet data transfer in a month.
I don’t him he didn’t have anything to worry about. After surfing around in the gateway, I found that we’d transmitted 40GB and received 249GB since the last reboot (and I don’t remember when that was.) This is with 4 kids here who are frequent internet users; music, Netflix, games, etc.
For my money, U-verse still beats the heck out of cable.

Okay, what am I missing here?
Dutch police said in a statement Wednesday, “The girl got pregnant when she was 11, which in itself means there has been a criminal offense. Article 244 of the Penal Code, sex with a minor under 12, is punishable. In addition, there are now [circumstances] reported by the Child Protection Board. Taking these two circumstances, the police is now investigating who the father [of this baby] is.”
Maybe I’m reaching a bit, but does this mean that sex with a 12 year old is NOT punishable?
How many Muslims in that country anyway? That’s the only major religion that I know of that condones marriage and sexual relations with children. I thought most industrialized countries had age limits much higher for this type of misbehavior.
PS: They suspect the father:
Family members said that the schoolgirl’s father previously sexually abused another older daughter and served two years in jail for the sex crime, according to the Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf.
The girl was living with her father and brother after he won custody following a divorce from their mother, who was originally from Suriname, a former Dutch colony in South America.

Why did the State Department approve “Captain (?)” Qadaffi Khadafi Ghadafi Kadhaffi Mo Jr. for a visa to be an intern? He’s apparently also the commander of Libya’s Special Forces, who are now going around whacking people.
The internship, which lasted a month, was sponsored by AECOM, a Los Angeles-based global engineering and design company that has been working with the Libyan regime to modernize the country’s infrastructure. Khadis made stops in San Francisco, Colorado, Houston, Washington, and New York City, meeting with high-tech companies (including Google, Apple, and Intel), universities, and defense contractors like Northrop Grumman and Lockheed Martin. While in the Big Apple, Khamis even took in the Broadway show “Mamma Mia.”
.
.
.
A spokesman for AECOM told CNN that the company was “shocked and outraged” to learn of Khamis’ military role.
Riiiight. About as shocked and outraged SJL usually is. How clueless does one have to be when interviewing a Qadaffi Khadafi Ghadafi Kadhaffi Mo Jr.?

How many Muslims in that country anyway?
A bunch. I’ve been told over 5%. Like the rest of Europe the Dutch quit having babies so they started bringing in a lot of Turks and Moroccans back in the ’70s. Also like the rest of Europe they’ve come to realize what an utter failure multiculturalism has been.

Good afternoon Hamsters. Whee, back to late winter temps, 55 at 6 and breezy. Nothing in the rain gauge despite a few spits last night. Sigh. Sun is peeking through and offering some warmth–a whole 60 now at 1 pm. Back to winter clothes for a couple of days.
Four-month postoperative check on my right wrist and elbow was satisfactory this morning, no need to come back unless something starts hurting. Now that makes my day. Thank you, Lord.

This makes me a customer of any Burt’s Bees product.
Maine sportsmen were outraged when Roxanne Quimby, the conservation-minded founder of Burt’s Bees cosmetics, bought up tens of thousands of acres of Maine’s fabled North Woods — and had the audacity to forbid hunters, loggers, snowmobiles and all-terrain vehicles on the expanses.
No surprise so far…
Quimby confronted the hornet’s nest she’d stirred up head-on — calling one of her sharpest critics, George Smith, then-executive director of the Sportsman’s Alliance of Maine. Smith couldn’t believe his ears. The back-to-the-earth advocate who made millions with her eco-friendly line of personal care products was calling him at home, on a Saturday morning?
.
“I thought someone was playing a joke on me when she called,” Smith recalls. “She said, ‘Hi, this is Roxanne Quimby. I said, ‘Oh yeah, sure.’”
Something must be up?
There was. And it was good.

Dear Leader’s speech didn’t resonate like his speeches used to.
Reading through the comments, it appears that Entertainment Weekly website readers are pretty conservative.
Barack and Michelle are an embarrassment. Obama is the worst US president in US history and Michelle wears clothes abroad that are hideous. Does she not know her figure from the waste down looks like Lawrence Taylor or the NY Giants and from the wast up she looks like Pee Wee Herman with a training bra…

Today’s nominee for Mother of the Year goes to the unnamed woman who attacked an employee of a Toyota dealership in Glendale:
Woman uses 5-year-old son as shield against Taser
When police arrived, the woman was holding the hand of her 5-year-old son while shaking her finger in the face of her boyfriend, an employee of Andrew, while yelling, “Give me my weed back!” She also wanted her keys back.
The boyfriend, who is not the 5-year-old’s father, said the two had been living together for three months, but when asked what the woman’s last name was said he wasn’t sure.

According to 2010 US Census data, the top 10 most segregated cities in America are all located in Texas and the South in the East, Northeast and on the West Coast.
Curiously, each of these cities voted for Barack Obama in 2008 and are heavily Democratic.
Rob Long writes about it here.

#26, et al – Last summer, the Rice administration secretly agreed to sell the student founded and run radio station, KTRU, to University of Houston for around $10 million.
Ah, but don’t worry. Its just the FM Channel:
With the future of KTRU as an online-only entity all but certain, many are focusing on the loss to Rice as a university and for the students, the loss of a truly local independent medium to Houston and the damage in the relationship between the university administration and the Rice community at large.
As a matter of fact, the same people that are helping them broadcast on the web have arranged to have them broadcast in HD:
HOUSTON — (Feb. 5, 2011) – Pacifica Radio and Rice University announced today that they have reached agreement for Rice’s student-run radio station, KTRU, to broadcast on KPFT’s HD Radio channel. HD2 broadcasts began Monday, February 14 at 9:01 AM.
snip
KPFT General Manager, Duane Bradley added, “The eclectic offerings of Rice Radio emanating from 90.1 FM HD2 will bring KPFT’s current audience a greatly expanded palette from which to choose.“
See. All better.

So while Atheist acticvists are getting courts to rule the display of the Ten Commandments in courts, you’re condemning such action. You reeeeeally think their religious beliefs have nothing to do with their motivation in setting public policy?
Besides, you weren’t too clear as to how Bachman’s fear mongering others over the gay issue. I think you agreed with my search results but I’m not sure.

As semester breaks would occur, everyone would venture off campus for a couple of weeks to go back home or see the real world, and upon returning to campus, it was discovered they had all turned substandard again – and the cycle would repeat.

I think people should be free to believe as they wish. I do not think government should promote any particular belief system, but should stay the heck out of the way and let people decide for themselves.
If you have a problem with that, please explain.

As I’m eating a chicken and cheese sandwich with mayo I’ll be glad to inform you on my dietary changes.
The main differences are as follows.
1) The only soft drink I’ve ingested since my T.I.A was one time when I sipped my son’s soft drink after he begged me to taste the mixture of drinks he concocted. I did so not to satisfy my own crave for something sweet but to be a good dad. Other than that I’ve not touched any soft drink. I have wracked up on Sunny D or other sweet drinks like lemonaid but no soft drinks.
2) I’ve eaten more veggies, mainly broccoli, with my meals.
3) I’ve only eaten two strips of bacon since my T.I.A.
4) I drink lots more cold water to satisfy my thirst.
5) I stopped brisk walking because my left knee hurt too much. It hurts in the back.
My gut is definitely smaller since my dietary changes and I’ve slipped down a belt notch. I just read the hospital bill and it wasn’t good at all for my blood pressure. Two days of care and it’s over $20,000. They’re definitely NOT going to get that amount or anywhere near it by April 6. So I need to call them and look into payment options. We’ve already decided to cancel TV so that means there’s no need for U-verse package. We’ll go back to the DSL/phone package we used to use from AT&T which is a lot less than the same service from U-Verse though when adding TV, U-Verse is a better deal. But many have already ditched cable for online streaming of shows. I’ve looked into that but such is not a big priority.
Oh, yeah, the diet. Overall it’s going good I’d say. I fully intend to keep on track and keep my eye and ears out for improvements.
Thanks for asking.

Please recall that this dialogue traces back directly when you dissed Michelle Bachman for nothing other than what she believes.
I did not criticize Ms. Bachmann’s beliefs. I don’t care what she believes. I did point out that she was using other peoples beliefs to benefit her political ambitions. She is a panderer.
As far as you or others “knowing” about what skeptics “believe,” y’all don’t know what your talking about. At all. I strongly support everyone’s right to believe whatever they like. If it works for you that’s fine with me, and I’m happy for you. Just don’t use the force of government to impose your beliefs on others, and we’ll get along just fine.

I did point out that she was using other peoples beliefs to benefit her political ambitions. She is a panderer.
So now your false impression of Bachman is that she campaigns not on her own convictions regarding the gays and gay marriage; but seeks out those who fear them and “panders” to those fears? WHAT-ARE-YOU-TALKING-ABOUT? Bob, you should be the new poster child for don’t do drugs. Or, better yet, for a revival of Nancy Reagan’s, “Just say no” campaign. Besides, wasn’t Bachman the only character in that cartoon who “feared” gays? Why, YES, she was. So you can drop this new get out of a tight spot lie you’re trying to employ.
So, bob, what has Bachman **done** that warrants such an attack? If she has not **done** anything, the only thing left is her personal beliefs against gay marriage and how she, like everybody else, including yourself, uses those personal beliefs to seek public policy.

I know things like this pop up from time to time and at times they’re proven unreliable. But this is still interesting:
British archaeologists are seeking to authenticate what could be a landmark discovery in the documentation of early Christianity: a trove of 70 lead codices that appear to date from the 1st century CE, which may include key clues to the last days of Jesus’ life. As UK Daily Mail reporter Fiona Macrae writes, some researchers are suggesting this could be the most significant find in Christian archeology since the Dead Sea scrolls in 1947.
Could lead codices prove ‘the major discovery of Christian history’?

Speaking of Darren and his health, Darren’s bedtime is now at hand. He must retire.

Give it up Darren. He’s a crypto-fascist. Only they are allowed to use the force of government to impose their beliefs on others. Don’t engage him and you’ll do your blood pressure wonders.

It does kinda match the decor, if I could just make the white background transparent.

Downstairs are the resident four young adults and their three guests. Daughter and I did our duet a couple of times, and received applause. But I’ve stayed out of the way and only played one game of pool.
Now, they’re cooking, and that’s fine with me. It has been an interesting evening so far. I suspect we’ll have a few overnight guests. And that’s a good thing.
