Our host seems to be a little stressed of late, so let’s take him on a trip home to cheer him up.
First up, a Crestview man locked his girlfriend in a shed and threw cottage cheese at her. Must be some sort of cracker mating ritual.
Then we have a couple of Broward County Deputies who are evidently under strict orders to prevent suicides.
Speaking of cops, Orlando brings us a man bites cop story. I wonder if had his distemper shots? He’s also a nominee for most creative tasering invitation today.
Next stop: Gainesville, where controversial preacher Terry Jones “supervised the burning of a Koran by fellow Evangelical preacher Wayne Sapp. Apparently burning a Koran requires soaking it in kerosene for an hour beforehand. Who knew?
Finally, the Bradenton cemetery where Eugene Washington was being buried must have been going for the extra style points.

How about a 10′ long shoe car. Electric of course, and consumes no petrochemical distillates or anything else in the body, since it’s made of bull’s hide. Now what do they use for the gear shift knob? I want one of these – maybe I could go electric after all.

Tokyo’s airport has been packed with people trying to to leave Japan following a spike in radiation.
The panic is justified. Whether they’re American, European, Asian, Middle Eastern or African, the longer they’re in Tokyo the more they look like Gary Busey.

CNN correspondent Nic Robertson sez that Fox news is lying about foreign journalists being used as human shields. Meanwhile, others demonstrate the cluelessness and/or deceitfulness of Mr. Robertson :
British sources confirmed that seven Storm Shadow missiles were ready to be fired from a British aircraft, but the strikes had to be curtailed due to crews from CNN, Reuters and other organizations nearby. Officials from Libya’s Ministry of Information brought those journalists to the area to show them damage from the initial attack and to effectively use them as human shields.

I was out all yesterday afternoon and evening. I just opened up yesterday’s thread and caught up on events there. Dang! My blood pressure went up just reading the posts. I guess it was some kind of delayed reaction, being a day late and all.
I worked hard all weekend, hard mowing (not the easy stuff), picking up branches (some of them quite large), moving bricks, moving dirt, hauling logs….
….and I strain my back picking up a box of wissin’ kitty litter.
Figgers.

Okay, I was looking for some different recipes. I picked up some Mung beans yesterday to try out. Then I found this recipe.
Perhaps I shall move on to another food…though I’m sure this one is healthy. I just don’t know if I shall ever look at a sprout the same way again.

Does anybody know how many basketball games Obummer would have had to see in order to predict the 64 men’s and 64 women’s NCAA Final Four Brackets? It is amazing with all the problems in the world our so-called president is able to go on ESPN to predict his winners. He would have had to have seen at a minimum, 128 games (one for each team) and be able to know that those would be the teams in the tournament so what are the odds he knew which teams and which games to watch. He would also need to analyze those teams strengthes and weaknesses in order to know how they would play against another team. He was probably getting scouting reports along with his daily briefings in order to make his picks. Or maybe his “teleprompter” told him who to pick???

If this brainless biddy gets re-elected, you’ll know things are rigged in Missouri.
Sen. Claire McCaskill (D-Mo) said Monday she will sell her private plane and pay back $287,273 in four years of back taxes, the latest chapter in a politically embarrassing saga for the moderate Democrat facing a tough reelection battle in 2012.
McCaskill has been answering questions about the plane since POLITICO recently reported that she billed taxpayers for a political trip around Missouri. POLITICO also reported that McCaskill spent $76,000 from her Senate budget on trips on the aircraft over the past four years, prompting the senator to refund the Treasury Department more than $88,000 for the cost of the trips plus pilot fees.
The Tea Party got on her bulbous butt early in the game. Let’s hope they are still on thier game in Missouri and run a good Conservative candidate before the Establishment runs one of thier normal milquetoast poseurs.

Reminds me of my bachelor party days. The prospective bridegroom would be out in the front yard calling the Almighty / performing the technicolor yawn. We’d go out and check on him to make sure he was still alive every now and then. When he’d get the dry heaves or it looked like there was no possible way he could barf any more, we’d ask him if he saw a little pink donut come out. We’d then tell him that when that happened, he could stop because that would be his [sphincter] coming out, so there would be nothing left to barf.We were such kind, sensitive, giving souls.

Founded in 1907 and rebuilt following World War II, it supplied nearly all of the vessels used in Japan’s 54 nuclear power plants, including the containers at the Fukushima Daiichi plants designed by General Electric and Toshiba.
While those vessels were made from steel plates bolted and welded together, modern designs require Japan Steel Works to forge containers from a single ingot that can weigh up to 600 tons. It’s a slow process that takes months at a time, using the company’s 14,000-ton press to shape a special steel alloy that’s been purified to maximize its strength. These methods also minimize seams that can give way in case of a meltdown, where nuclear fuel can reach 2,000 degrees Celsius.
That is something I would like to see.

Actually, since the part he’s consulting Muslim Ecclesiastical law on is a matter wholly internal to the mosque in question, he should recuse himself or dismiss that portion of the case with no decision in either direction. The Church has Canon Law, which is a body of laws that pertain specifically to the Church and her internal matters, e.g., ordination of priests, bishops; marriage; sacraments. A dispute within the Church would be resolved using Canon Law in the local diocese, with appeals possible all the way up to the appropriate Congregation in the Curia in the Vatican.
Since Islam has no central authority, I suppose you get what’s in the article.

I stumbled upon a writers page, and I was vastly surprised to find this comment buried within the instructional text:
3. Don’t use double negatives. While you’ll probably want to avoid sentences like “I don’t got none,” there is a place for double negatives, particularly if you enjoy being snarky. “Twilight is a not unpopular series of books,” or “I’m not unfamiliar with your blog.”
Be sure to use it sparingly unless you want your readers to become not unwilling to kick you in places you’d rather be licked. (emphasis mine)

Oh yeah, Bob. The digital units are pretty user friendly and produce quite decent audio quality IMHO. I’m happy with my Korg so far. I plan to buy a better one in time, but for now it’s good. Next up on my acquisition list is a Fender American Deluxe Jazz Bass. Should have it shortly after April 1. Just paid the house off so I’m dangerous now!

I came back from running errands this afternoon, and I have a pile of stuff to do. I have a class tomorrow night and a retreat on Satruday, both of which I need to prepare for. My assistant missed work again today, but I can’t really be angry because she’s found out her baby is probably a Down’s child. She is struggling just to take care of herself, and the thought of her upcoming birth and motherhood was really giving her something to look forward to, and her mom was very excited. Now she’s facing a whole ‘nother bunch of problems on top of the normal birth/motherhood situation.
Hubby’s oldest brother was severely retarded, and he told me stories of what they went through raising him at home. It was definitely a family affair, and sometimes it was very difficult. A lot of mentally retarded children also have health issues; Hubby’s brother had heart defects and joint problems. He was not predicted to live past twelve, but he lived to age 30. Hubby told me puberty was the worst, as they have all the rebelliousness of normal kids, but retarded kids don’t have those mental “brakes” on their behavior. Hubby described how his brother had to be held down by the whole family (one on each limb and granny trying to get the medicine down his throat), and the brother would effortlessly swing his arm and someone would go flying across the room.
I don’t know how L is going to handle this. My personal opinion is that she needs to give her baby up for adoption. This pregnancy has been an event that has caused her to some real growing up emotionally; when she first came to work for me her biggest concern was how to score concert tickets and which credit card to put it on.
The girl has a lot of emotional and health problems which would have caused her to be fired anywhere else, and she’s come close here, even as patient as I’ve been. I’ve watched her become informed on political and world affairs as we’ve listened to the radio as we worked together. She’s been working really hard to try to get ahead financially, or at least to tread water. I was concerned how she’d handle the load of a “normal” baby, but one with potential health problems and probable developmental problems…that’s going to be extremely rough.
Ya’ll keep her in your prayers. This is going to be a rough decision for her.

#67 Tedtam, this will prolly sound a bit weird coming from me, but I think “L” is “blessed” to have you as a part of her life. It’s clear that you care for her, and have been a positive influence on her as she matures and faces some very serious challenges.
Thanks for sharing that touching story.

#67 Tedtam, Prayers are on the way for the little Lady. I’d say that she is very lucky to have you in her life, you always seem to do your best to help those in need.

74: check
she should have checked to see who’s at the door before opening it. Situational awareness and all that. -

BigTex: I read that article earlier. Cops: Ms. Brown….is there a reason why you shot the “alleged” ex-con 4 times? Ms Brown: Yessir. ‘Cause when I pulled the trigger again, it jist went “click”.
Money quote was when her boyfriend claimed she was a bad shot at the range. LOL!!!

Wow, we Hamsters are a zany crew. Kitty-kitty-bang-bang pink guns and a woman with a problem pregnancy, all jumbled up tonight.
TT, is it too nosy to ask if this woman is married? You mentioned a mother but not a mate. How old is she? Downs is associated with pregnancies later in life. I didn’t know it could be diagnosed for certain before birth — I thought even with amniocentesis it was still just the probability that could be assessed. If she has only had blood testing and not any of the more invasive tests, one can still hope. Perhaps she has only been told there is some risk of Down’s but not given that actual diagnosis. Please keep us informed on this case.

She is unmarried and didn’t think she could get pregnant due to some of her issues. She has scoliosis and was told she’d need surgery in the next year or so because it was progressing to the point that it would be damaging internal organs if it wasn’t corrected. She suffers from social anxiety disorder, which means she wouldn’t do well in large groups of people or handling distressing situations. She also suffers from depression (which runs in her family), and must take medication to keep herself on even keel. Her family doesn’t have much money, and so she’s on the public medical care program, which is a pain in the wiss to keep up with. That stresses her as well; doctor appointments can take all day, and the poor kid has a physician, a psychiatrist, a physical therapist, and a psychologist, and now has her OB/Gyn doctors. She’s been balancing a fine line with her meds and her pregnancy.
The father has his own issues, but is excited about the baby. She is, however, trying to figure out if she can make the relationship work. She admits that they rushed into a physical relationship. He wants to marry her and she’s really not very sure about that. We’ve joked about how messed up the baby would be, her with her issues and he with his. I guess we quit joking about that as of today.
She’s been working part time for me and part time for a pet store (she’s a huuuuge animal lover). Her boss there is giving her a hard time and cutting back her hours just because she can. That and her missed work at my office for her numerous doctor appointments has really hit her financially.
Her text message to me this afternoon made me think she was told that Down’s was almost a certainty. I guess I’ll find out more tomorrow, if she comes in. We won’t have long to talk – I have to take Handsome to a doctor in the morning.

And I’m not all that special. Don’t put me up on a pedestal. It hurts when I trip and fall. And that happens a lot.
